goongaddict
1st time in this thread...and i just finished this drama 2 days ago...so here's my two-piece about it... Why i watched? Only started watching K-dramas since feb...so i was fashionably late in deciding to watch the famous 4 season dramas, Autumn, Summer, Winter, Spring.... So last week it was Summer Scent....and for those of you who watched it....its quite impossible to not fall in love with Son Ye Jin.....so a new Son Ye Jin fan i became....and obviously i wanted to see her in other movies/dramas....and Alone in Love is the onli drama after Summer Scent.... The Drama At first, watching the drama and enjoying it was entirely because Son Yeh Jin is the lead.....episode one was hilarious....there were really good sarcastic metaphoric dialogues we had in there....with married/divorced couples lashing out at one another (egoistic behaviour)...it was refreshing watching a totally diff plot form the usual love conquers all, and dying hospitals scenes and crying like hell kinda dramas (u noe like fantasy land kind) Alone in Love was realistic, funny, sad and romantic at the same time....it gave me the feeling of being somewhat deep....with all the monologues and dialogues...metaphors about love, life and relationships...not just the usual love squares.... Screencap in Words The first few episodes, were like how everyone described it to be, introductory...Then it moved on to show us a bit of what happened in the past, and how their lives are now....Eun Ho and Dong Shin being rather contented having a mutual friendship/lover realtionship for the past 1 1/2 years...meeting up for nothing at all...but not all the time yet not avoiding each other or neither were they being intimate lovers...just like old friends, a father, a sister, a brother and mother to one another...watching out for each other....(flashback : Dong Shin checking on Eun Ho's bike every morning, habitual lunching in D.Donut) Then, the middle part of the drama, brought about the question....This thing we're doing...is it normal??...so they decided to get into new relationships reluctantly, trying to move on....however, seeing one another with different people in their lives....him/her caring for another individual other than themselves....brought pain to each their hearts... Then the next question came...Are we really ok with this??? Are we happy??....jealousy comes in next...another few more rounds of lashings and sarcasm along with pretentious well wishing with each others' partners....yet nothing is being done to fix the situition as the string is yet to be completely broken...(metaphorically they are still bound by a single thread, not a rope, just a thread....like how they're still sure that both still cares for the other.....the new person is less important...no thread there) When the pain became more unbearable, Complete separation was the next trial, which caused even more pain...ending with both deciding to accept each others' new 'lives' yet still meeting up as 'old' friends......in the way literally lying and cheating themselves.... The Last part brings home the ultimate question....Can I Live Without You??...here we see Dong Shin, literally burning away his memories with Eun Ho and taking on marriage with his new bride...meaning A Forever Goodbye....As we think the wedding would mean closure to all this chaotic mess of emotions....the original plot from the beginning of the story resurfaces, the reason of their separation..... Eun Ho finding out the truth too late showed us her despair, misery and regrets...of all her years of being and independent strong woman, this truth burnt her soul, living on was a drag...(this part was very intense, Ye Jin's performance here will definitely bring you to tears) On His part, purportedly, us the audience, was shown happiness and a blissful marriage for a short period of time....but soon...reality strikes... The last two episodes....was the best....answering the question before this....No, I Can't Live Without You....then for the first time, we viewers got to see them being honest and true to theirselves for the first time... The End.... Conclusion Loved this drama, especially SYJ....recommended to people who think alot to watch it...like i said, its quite deep.... Guest finnz
hi everyone! this is my first time posting a reply to a thread - so forgive me for any errors.. i just wana express how much i love this series - if there is a poll going on right now bout what is the best series so far - i would so totally vote for alone in love. everything from the plot to the cinematography to the cast to the music fits in perfectly - of course the most memorable like how everyone has indicated - are the monologues - to me - it was how "real" everything seemed to be - i mean i luv the typical korean dramas - but this one is really a breath of fresh air from the normal genre of dramas that we love - it is so unique on how it touches on the subject of true love. this is the first time i see syj and gws in a drama - and i am totally in love with them and their characters - and wud luv to c more of them in the future - syj without a doubt is a very beautiful and versatile actress while gws may not be "greek god" material but he represent a real man - in a real world.. heehee..ok...just my thoughts... did i say i love the show? Guest lunae
i just wana express how much i love this series - if there is a poll going on right now bout what is the best series so far - i would so totally vote for alone in love. Totally agree with you ^^. AiL so far is the best drama so far for this year [hehe, my all-time fave is the old Hotelier~~mihane... AiL comes 2nd for all time ] everything from the plot to the cinematography to the cast to the music fits in perfectly - of course the most memorable like how everyone has indicated - are the monologues - to me - it was how "real" everything seemed to be - i mean i luv the typical korean dramas - but this one is really a breath of fresh air from the normal genre of dramas that we love - it is so unique on how it touches on the subject of true love. this is the first time i see syj and gws in a drama - and i am totally in love with them and their characters - and wud luv to c more of them in the future - syj without a doubt is a very beautiful and versatile actress while gws may not be "greek god" material but he represent a real man - in a real world.. Watching AiL is like watching real people under the camera lenses, unlike watching actor and actresses strutting their stuff, directed and saying the lines from a script... I guess not many liked the drama cuz of the human/heavy subject it brought?[judging from no. of pages...] Haha, I remembered the reason I watched AiL. It's cuz GWS, read he starred in TKATC, best movie ever, so I thought he should be good. Paired with SYJ - both of them are marvellous. It's only AiL is not like the typical commercial drama.... If judging from the LOOKS of GWS, I bet ppl will say he's an old geezer? Haha, so not true man! He's a great actor! And i love his accents~ it's cute SYJ is proving she's a versatile actress, and her potrayal of Eunho is verrrrry good! The casting staff must be credited for choosing these great casts. Even the supporting casts are superb, old or new ^^ Oso wish more from both of them in drama and wishing more ppl watching AiL <

Guest xosandy
7/6/06 – Son Yeh Jin and Gam Woo Sung, the leads of the drama “Alone in Love” (aka “Period of Love”) will visit Japan on 7/14 to attend the launching promotion of the product “Synergy Soap (시너지소프)”. They are the spokesperson for the product and have filmed a CF for it. The event will be held at “Sinagawa Epson Aqua Stadium (시나가와 엡손 아쿠아 스타디움)” of Tokyo. Then, on 7/18 and 7/19, SYJ will collaborate with Gong Hyung Jin (공형진), her other costar in “Alone in Love”, to dub for the animation film “Thousand-year Fox, Yuwoobi (천년 여우, 여우비)”. SYJ dubs for the character nine-tail fox while GHJ dubs for the young man helped by the nine-tail fox. http://sports.hankooki.com/lpage/entv/2006...07422858390.htm credits: CindyW88 @ news thread ================================================ MID YEAR K-DRAMA TOP 10 - X's CHOICES ================================================ 04. 연애시대 (Alone in Love) Miniseries 16 Episodes [sBS] PD: Han Ji-Seung / WRITER: Park Young-Seon [Cast: Gam Woo-Sung, Son Ye-Jin, Oh Yoon-Ah, Gong Hyung-Jin, Lee Ha-Na, Kim Gab-Soo, Gi Ju-Bong] Note: DVD Review Coming Soon Love is funny, sometimes you realize those feelings when you're apart, 'alone in love'. So even after breaking up, something is left there, hanging, something you can't explain but certainly can feel. Director Han Ji-Seung's first foray into the TV Drama World 연애시대 (Alone in Love) deals with people living in a limbo, a gray zone between love and friendship. They're unable to understand whether they're just experiencing the remnants of feelings that are slowly vanishing, or the rebirth of something new, thanks to their taking off certain boundaries society put on them. Be it the unique feel of the original Japanese novel this show was based on, Han Ji-Seung's quirky, careful hand in dealing with the characters, a seriously good script, or top notch acting, it's hard not to fall for a Drama like this. Is it love, friendship, something of both? There's really no clear answers, just a lot of charm, and characters that stick with you even once ads for the next shows are rolling. We'll talk a lot more about this show, but for now, let's just say Alone in Love is a huge surprise for me personally, as I believed SBS would turn this into another rating-seeking, histrionics-driven Korean Wave bait. But it doesn't happen, and I ended those 16 Episodes with a big smile on my face. It might not have done great, but the response on the net and the attention to detail on the upcoming DVD release tells me someone at SBS, even if it's just a few people, might be starting to see the light. http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/006807.html#more
Guest flymordecai
Just now I had a really bad feeling. It felt weird. Out of nowhere I just remembered Eun Ho, Dong Jin, Ji Ho, Joon Pyo, and all the other characters. It kinda made me sad thinking I can't see them anymore. Haha, I know it's weird. I guess that's just a sign of how believable the characters and their relationships were.
Guest mj07
The DVD set definitely looks great, but the one thing that worries me is the english subtitles. SBS Dramas Boxset tend to have bad english subtitles. Hopefully the subtitles won't be like the one in Fashion 70s. I have the same concern, so I think I'll wait until X on Twitch or someone else reviews them. I've already had several dramas ruined by bad subs (as you mentioned, Fashion 70s, plus the My Girl set I bought). This drama of ANY drama I've seen would suffer badly from a poor translation. There's just too much great dialogue, I hope hope hope they do a good job!
Guest schizoar
One of the best dramas I've watched. It's not like other dramas that presents the same storylines. This one definitely had its own story to tell. I miss the characters, they each have different personalities that made them unique. And the lines were so unforgettable, kudos to whoever wrote this one as well as all the characters. They played their roles well.
Guest mj07
urgh … so I was trying to check the DVD set out at YesAsia and it's listed as sold out/unavailable from the publisher from both the US and Global sites! It supposedly was releaseing yesterday! I was wondering if anyone knows, is it actually sold out or is this another case where YesAsia will be doing their own subs? It's still listed at dvdfromkorea.com but I don't want to spend a bazillion $$$ on shipping! Maybe there will be a non-special edition version? Guest samgirl
im scouting for a new drama to watch , i read reviews and i am interested in this series well aside from a fact that I like Ye jin, got all of her movies but none of her dramas, so I thought I might start with this one, the plot is not common and her character seems mature.
