‘Sisyphus’ Ranks Top 10 on Global Netflix as the Only Non-Anglosphere Series

JTBC’s Sisyphus: The Myth has ranked in the Top 10 of ‘TOP TV Shows on Netflix in the World.’

As JTBC’s 10th-anniversary special, Sisyphus: The Myth has been airing simultaneously through Netflix. Since its airing, it has been proving its international popularity by topping Netflix’s world rankings of Flix Patrol on the 5th. It is the only series from a non-anglosphere region among the top 10 TV Shows.

As of the same day, the show also ranked No. 1 on the Netflix rank in seven different countries including South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. Sisyphus: The Myth is also maintaining its first place in Korea’s ‘Today’s Contents.’

The series features the journey of Han Tae Sul, a genius engineer who tries to uncover the identity that hides amongst our society, and Kang Seo Hae, his savior who has come through a long and dangerous path for him. The unique universe has been well received and the show now maintains its No. 1 spot in viewer ratings amongst other Wed-Thurs series.

I think the rating is low because Koreans watch Netflix as well since it's no 1 in Korea. So happy to know that it's top 10 in the world and the only Korean show. Prove how popular Shin hye is. The drama is very interesting, it makes me laugh, cry at times and makes stop breathing at times coz of the suspense.

JTBC’s “Sisyphus: The Myth” has shared a cute glimpse of its stars behind the scenes of filming!

 

“Sisyphus: The Myth” is a fantasy-mystery drama starring Cho Seung Woo as Han Tae Sool, a genius engineer who goes searching for the dangerous truth behind his brother’s death, and Park Shin Hye as Kang Seo Hae, his savior from a war-torn future.

 

On March 7, “Sisyphus: The Myth” released new behind-the-scenes photos that capture the adorable real-life chemistry between its two leads. In contrast to the weighty, life-or-death-stakes atmosphere of the drama, Park Shin Hye and Cho Seung Woo can’t seem to stop smiling and laughing as they joke around with each other on set, leading to some adorable candid shots of the two co-stars.

 

The producers of “Sisyphus: The Myth” commented, “The chemistry between the actors is so fantastic that If we were to properly talk about it, our lips would end up hurting from how long we’d have to talk. I think that the reason [Park Shin Hye and Cho Seung Woo] were able to create the flawless chemistry they have now is that they trusted each other, both in terms of their acting and their teamwork.”

 

They continued, “With each new episode, Cho Seung Woo and Park Shin Hye’s A+ chemistry will heat up even more, and you won’t want to miss it. Now in its third week of airing on television, "Sisyphus: The Myth" has cracked the worldwide Netflix charts with a ranking in tenth place on May 5th. It is the only South Korean drama in the list, although the American television version of "Snowpiercer" is in fourth place. The high Netflix ranking of "Sisyphus: The Myth" was largely thanks to Asian markets, many of which had the drama at number one. These include Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.

 

 

The news comes as "Sisyphus: The Myth" has slipped below 5% ratings in its most recent episode on March 4th. The more consistent performance of "Sisyphus: The Myth" on Netflix suggests the drama is striking a stronger chord with international audiences as well as domestic ones less likely to watch dramas on live television. "Sisyphus: The Myth" stars Cho Seung-woo as a genius engineer and Park Shin-hye as a mysterious woman from parts unknown attempting to seek him out.

On March 6, Park Shin Hye’s label SALT Entertainment shared a statement regarding the action they took against malicious commenters.

Read the agency’s full statement below:

Hello, this is SALT Entertainment.

We are consistently taking legal action against malicious postings involving our actors. We would like to give you an update on some of the cases.

Through self-monitoring and information from fans, we collected malicious content about actress Park Shin Hye as evidence and submitted a complaint to the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office

As a result, back in February of this year, the malicious commenters (defendants) were sentenced with fines for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. (defamation of character).

We will continue to take strong legal action against any cases of malicious slander, spread of false rumors, sexual harassment, defamation, invasion of privacy, and more. There will absolutely be no settlements or leniency.

In addition to protecting the rights and interests of our actors, we will work hard to make sure that the precious hearts of the fans who support and love our actors will not be hurt. Thank you.
