Rookie actor Yoon Sang-hyun (21) proved his potential as wide as the ocean through ‘Doctor Slump’.

Yoon Sang-hyun received a lot of love for his role as Park Shin-hye's younger sister Nam Bada in the recently concluded JTBC drama 'Doctor Slump'. Although he has only just finished his second work, following the drama 'Shuroop' (2022), he left a strong presence.

Yoon Sang-hyun, who showed off his Tiki Taka sibling chemistry with Park Shin-hye in 'Doctor Slump', dominated the cuteness of viewers. Not just viewers. She also played the role of the youngest sister to Park Shin-hye and Park Hyeong-sik in 'Doctor Slump'. I was able to create a lovely character by incorporating the love I received into the character of Nambada.

Yoon Sang-hyun, who attracted attention as soon as he debuted, including Daegun Muan in 'Shroop' and Nam Bada in 'Doctor Slump'. He said, “I hope you will continue to look at me kindly in the future,” and he smiled like the southern sea.

-'Doctor Slump' has ended, what kind of work was it for Yoon Sang-hyun?
"'Doctor Slump' was filmed last year, from the hottest to the coldest times. I have a lot of memories of filming. We were filming a pig's trotter restaurant, and it was very hot, so I was sweating a lot. My seniors used tissues to help me. “I cleaned it up. (Laughs) It was the day a heat wave warning was issued.”

-I think I received a lot of love from my seniors.
“I never thought to myself, ‘I’m so cute,’ (laughter), but my seniors thought I was really cute. They asked me, ‘What was difficult about your previous work, ‘Shuroop’?’ and I said, ‘It was difficult to pronounce ‘Eomamama.’” “He imitated the pronunciation and said it was cute. Hahaha. I thought, ‘No matter what I do, people think it’s cute.’ It was a joke, and I think it’s because it’s a cute role.”

-How was your chemistry with your seniors?
"Because it was my second drama, I was very nervous when I met my seniors. It was amazing. I thought it was a valuable experience. Senior Park Shin-hye praised me and said I was cute after seeing my role as Grand Prince Muan in 'Shurup'. I have been watching Park Shin-hye since 'The Heirs'. (Laughs) Senior Park Hyung-sik liked the song 'Aftermath' (by ZE:E's Children). He liked it even before the turnaround. He went to the script reading day while listening to that song. Senior Park Hyung-sik went to the first reading day. “When I met him, I thought he was a prince from a cartoon. I was really impressed. He looked like a character from a cartoon. I secretly looked at him every now and then.”

-Did your two seniors, Park Shin-hye and Park Hyeong-sik, give you any advice?
"Because I was so new, he gave me a lot of encouragement and was cute to me. Senior Park Hyung-sik gave me a hug every time we met. I was always excited. Haha. Senior Park Shin-hye gave me a lot of praise. 'Even though I'm a rookie, I work hard and have courage.' “He gave me a lot of feedback while filming and gave generous advice for each scene.”

-Even though you are a rookie, you seem to be nervous.
“I felt like if I got scared, it would damage the work. I wanted to be helpful and not cause damage to the work. I try not to be scared and not be nervous. That’s my personality by nature. I tend to be less nervous.”

-Aren’t you nervous even at the audition?
“No. The audition site wasn’t easy. I had to show myself in a short period of time. I felt pressured, and I was nervous because of the mindset of ‘I have to do well.’”

-So, was this work also selected through an audition?
“I auditioned for this project as well. I auditioned at least two or three times for other auditions, but for ‘Doctor Slump,’ the director immediately said, ‘Let’s do it together.’ The script says it’s in Seoul, but I was able to act in Busan. Bada spent time in Busan. “It was set in Seoul, so I reflected that. I mixed in the dialect a little bit.”

-How did you try to express the role of the sea?
“I thought that it was a role that could make me look hateful if I didn’t do it well. I worked hard with the mindset of ‘I will go my own way no matter what other roles do.’ It was a licorice-like role, so I went my own way without being greedy.”

-How did you think you could do it without seeming hateful?
“I thought I should have a good laugh. I tried to create the role of the sea, trying to calm it down by laughing.”

-It seems to have a similar personality to the sea.
"(Like the sea) I seem to smile a lot on a regular basis. While playing this role, I started smiling a lot and developed a positive mindset without even realizing it. I think I'm about 90% in sync with the sea. There's a scene where I'm fighting with my older sister, and when I was in school with my older sister. "It's similar to how we used to fight. The family environment that came to Seoul after living in Busan is also similar."

- I guess that's how it was with my older sister, too.
"It's similar. I often go to coin karaoke with my older sister. She sings too much. She comes back exhausted. (Laughs)"

-So, did you incorporate your appearance into the character?
“It definitely helped a lot. Senior Park Shin-hye also has an older brother. Things like the headlock scene were also her ideas.”

-You had to show your closeness as brother and sister, but did you try to become close with Park Shin-hye?
“Even without trying, my senior made me feel comfortable. He made me approachable. He even bought me chocolate snacks at a convenience store in between filming. They were really, really delicious. He even invited me to my senior’s mother’s store. It’s Yang Dae-chang’s house. , It was really delicious. I ate it with my mother after filming was over.”

-I think the teamwork was really good.
“That’s why the making video came out interesting. I have many fun memories of the behind-the-scenes stories.”

-Did you come up with an ad-lib idea yourself?
“I think it was like that. There was a scene where senior Hyun Bong-sik and I were drunk, and (Hyun Bong-sik) asked if he could put ginseng in his ears. He told me to do anything, so I put it in. (Laughs)”

-Wasn’t Hyeon Bong-sik scary?
“I never thought of senior Hyeon Bong-sik as scary. Maybe it’s because we’re from Busan, but it was so fun to talk to him. I don’t know what he would think, and I’m not sure if it’s okay to say this, but he’s a lovely senior.”

-He debuted at the age of 20, why did he want to become an actor?
"When I entered college, I had doubts about whether I could do it. Then, after auditioning, I became very curious about acting. I was cast in (my debut film) 'Shuroop' without reading the script. That's because I joined late. In fact, it was my first time. I had a lot of doubts about my acting. However, during the first filming, (Kim) Seon-ho, (Moon) Sang-min, and actors of the same age helped me a lot and I had fun filming. At that time, I had a strong desire to do anything. 'Shurup' When I heard that I had been cast in ', I was half nervous and half excited."

-I think I've been lucky since my debut.
"I think I'm a bit lucky. I have to work a little harder to match my luck. I thought I should work hard."

-I think I have a natural talent.
“I don’t think it’s something I was born with. Moving around a lot helped me a lot. As the environment changes frequently, I have a good ability to adapt accordingly. I tend to have a good ability to adapt flexibly while filming.”

-Who is your role model?
“Senior Choi Woo-sik and Kim Hye-soo. Senior Choi Woo-sik is good at playing a variety of roles, so I want to imitate him and emulate him. I knew that Senior Kim Hye-soo was a great senior because we filmed together, but he is an even greater senior. On set. “We take care of each and every member of the staff.”

-What kind of actor do you want to be?
“I want to become an actor who arouses people’s curiosity. I want to become an actor who makes people curious and curious when I am cast in a certain work.”

-Who is your ideal type?
“I like people who have a good laugh code. I like laughing together and I like fun things. The laugh code must match well.”

-Is there a variety show you would like to appear in?
"I like web entertainment these days. I enjoy watching 'Excuse Go' and producer Na Young-seok's 'Nabulnabul'. I like chatting, so if I'm called, I want to appear. Also, I've been a fan of 'Infinite Challenge' since I was in elementary school. It was. I also want to meet PD Kim Tae-ho. I like singing and K-pop. I also want to try becoming a music entertainment MC. Since I’m still a rookie, I want to try various challenges.”

-What are your future aspirations?
“I will try to show many different sides of myself. I hope you will watch carefully.”
