Everyone. Especially @CarolynH, @LeftCoastOppa, and fellow countrypeeps. This election is killing me. So tense to watch it from overseas and to have the time difference. We'll go to bed in a few hours not knowing any results I think. How are you all holding up?

 

Whomever people are voting for, hopefully we can all agree it IS nice to see a candidate have fun and be a bit sassy!

Are there other historical c-dramas with NOT SKINNY Male Leads and that are not the lovey dovey type of romance dramas? I just can't with skinny MLs in fluffy romance / romcom dramas. ABSOLUTELY not. I don't care what anyone says. I need a manly masculine ML in a complicated story.

 

The only c-dramas I have fully watched are historical ones. I have completed:

• Go Princess Go (it's funny and complex)
• Oh My General (the FL is badass and I like the reversed roles)
• Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace (tragic tragic tragic and such a complex ML)
• The King's Woman (similar to Empress Ki)

 

Read that Good Bye, My Princess might fit the bill? The ML is also the antagonist and the ending is supposed to be tragic I think?

 

My major issue is that the ML is not eye candy in my opinion...

So with my dilemma of what to watch (major drama slump, peeps) and not finding a complex historical c-drama with a hot charismatic buff ML proved to be difficult, I turned to guess what?

Taiwanese dramas!

Because TW dramas have some of the best eye candy masculine actors with abs.

Unfortunately, TW dramas don't do historical, but I didn't let it stop me and I, by total pure luck, found this drama:

Lesson in Love from 2022.

 

 

Okay, peeps, bear with me for a sec. This is the synopsis:

New female teacher became a target of a trouble making gifted student's bullying. But their confrontations soon developed a romantic undertone and they began to have a secret affair that played fast and loose with their feelings.

 

I know, I know. It sounds bad. The ML is close to turning 18 and the teacher is 30....

 

But in the drama's defense:

• This is not the only part of the story. I hear that there are major plot twists regarding other things, and that not all is what is seems like. Apparently there is a murder scene twist coming in ep 6.
• The actors are 28 and 40 IRL. There is no way on earth the 28 year old ML looks like an 18 year old kid from any direction! He exudes sexy masculinity, so you forget that he's supposed to play a high school kid.
• Nothing really bad has happened between them up until ep 5 (not sure about the remaining episodes) except for a couple of SUPER sizzling scenes that are in his imagination.... Can I just say that only Taiwan can make HOT HOT HOT skinship scenes for adults that make you go
  
  You are not gonna see scenes like that in kdramas, c-dramas, j-dramas or Thai lakorns.
• That guy playing the ML is sooooo charismatic and grows on you. The way he plays his role is so awesome, and it feels like most schools have this type of bad boy all girls fall for. He's just after his teacher this time around. How she can resist the 28 year old actor is a mystery to me.

Long Ballad might be OK with you. Dilraba, Leo Wu, Zhao Lusi, and Liu Yuning are the leads. Leo Wu had a topless scene and he didn't disappoint. 

 

I liked this drama for the ironic parallels with the characters. The four leads had shown why they're the leads.

 

 

Most costume dramas have lanky actors because the costumes are bulky or several layers. Visually they'll only be critiqued unfairly if they don't slim down enough while playing the role.

maybe try Legend of Fu Yao (2018)(my watch list) the ML was another Taiwanese actor Ethan Juan ,66 episodes

Too fluffy skirt. It would look better if it loses 1/3 of the layers and have a longer train instead. If not that, something A-line or trumpet shape would still be better than all that floof.

 

@sweetroad if Trump wins, he'd be like that former president Grover Cleveland, right? Won, then lost, then won again. 

 

I remember reading about him in an old Reader's Digest which featured an anecdote of him.
