Actor Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin are possibly the next MBC K-drama couple.

On March 13, media outlets reported that Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin have been picked to lead the upcoming MBC K-drama titled The Number You Have Dialed (working title). 

Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin's agency King Kong by Starship shared their side regarding the casting reports through the media outlet NewsN. According to the agency, "The K-drama was offered to Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin and they are currently reviewing the offer." 

The Number You Have Dialed is a romance K-drama that tells the story of a show-window married couple. One is a presidential spokesperson and the other is a sign language interpreter. The two started their love story through a threatening phone call. The story will be based on a web novel of the same name. 

The upcoming K-drama will exclusively air on MBC.

 

Yoo Yeon Seok got the offer to play the role of Baek Sa Eon. He works as a presidential spokesperson. 

If Yoo Yeon Seok confirms his casting, this will be his return to romance K-dramas. Last year, he led the K-drama A Bloody Lucky Day with Lee Sung Min, Lee Jung Eun, Hong Xa Bin, Lee Kang Ji, and Tae Hang Ho. He also made a special appearance in the hit K-drama Dr. Romantic Season 3. He also starred in the movie My Heart Puppy.

The upcoming MBC thriller romance K-drama When the Phone Rings confirmed its production.

On September 24, MBC confirmed that Yoo Yeon Seok, Chae Soo Bin, Heo Nam Jun, and Jang Gyu Ri will be the main leads of the upcoming K-drama. They also shared that the series is aiming to be released in November.

When the Phone Rings will tell the story of a couple who has been in an arranged marriage for three years already. The two are pretending to be a normal and happy couple, but their lives change after the wife is suddenly abducted by a mysterious person. The upcoming K-drama will be based on the popular web novel of the same name published on Kakao Page.

The upcoming K-drama will be the joint work of director Park Sang Woo (The Forbidden Marriage and Terius Behind Me) and writer Kim Ji Woon (Doctor John and Hyde, Jekyll, Me). 

It's been reported that the production team is rushing to complete the K-drama, with a planned November premiere on MBC.

 

 

Yoo Yeon Seok will portray Baek Sa Eon, a man who has it all: looks, talent, and a privileged background. Ji Sang Woo will play Heo Nam Joon, a charming psychiatrist who's also a mystery-solving YouTuber. With a following of over 200,000, he investigates unsolved cases online. However, his obsession with the mysteries eventually draws him into a dangerous situation.

Lastly, Jang Gyu Ri will play Na Yu Ri, a talented broadcast announcer who graduated from a top university. She looks up to Baek Sa Eon and considers him as his role model, but little does she know that his wife is Hong Hee Joo, the sign language interpreter she collaborates with.

MBC has announced the lineup for its upcoming romance thriller The Number You Have Dialed. Based off a web novel of the same name, the show revolves around a show window couple who receive a blackmail call that threatens to reveal their secrets.

 

Playing the husband Baek Sa-eon is Yoo Yeon-seok (A Bloody Lucky Day), a perfect man who has it all. From his background to his looks, Sa-eon seems spotless with his impressive resume as a war correspondent journalist, negotiator, news anchor, and now, the youngest Blue House press secretary. However, in front of his wife whom he married for convenience, he is a cold and calculating man.

Chae Soo-bin (The Fabulous) plays the aforementioned wife Hong Hee-joo. Due to a childhood accident, Hee-joo has mutism, and as an adult, she works as a successful sign language interpreter. After living in a loveless marriage for three years, one day a stranger kidnaps her, and Hee-joo decides from that moment to change her life.

Besides our main couple, Heo Nam-joon (Your Honor) joins the cast as psychiatrist Ji Sang-woo. Good looking and kind, he runs a mystery YouTube channel that specializes in unsolved cases. Unfortunately, his curiosity spells his own downfall as he gets caught up in a case much bigger than he imagined.

Lastly, Jang Gyuri (The Player 2) plays the lovely announcer Na Yoo-ri. Possessing both beauty and brain, Yoo-ri is a naturally friendly person, and her role model is Sa-eon. However, she is unaware that the interpreter she works with is his wife, and this secret may complicate their relationship going forward.

Actor Choi Kwang Il will be starring in his first official K-drama in 2024.

On October 4, it was officially confirmed that Choi Kwang Il will be joining Yoo Yeon Seok, Chae Soo Bin, Heo Nam Jun, and Jang Gyu Ri in the upcoming K-drama When the Phone Rings. 

This will be his first official K-drama project for the year. He recently made a special cameo appearance in the K-dramas Seoul Busters and Marry My Husband. He also made a special cameo appearance in the film Hijack 1971 which was led by Ha Jung Woo, Yeo Jin Goo, Sung Dong Il, Chae Soo Bin, Moon You Kang, and Im Se Mi.

Over on MBC, a smartly suited Yoo Yeon-seok (A Bloody Lucky Day) graces our screens in new stills for When the Phone Rings. But though he’s been enjoying a path of success, the romance-thriller will have him taking a sharp swerve when wife Chae Soo-bin (The Fabulous) is suddenly kidnapped. Airing on weekends starting November, the series has PD Park Sang-woo (The Forbidden Marriage) directing with scripts by Kim Ji-woon. [10 Asia]

MBC’s upcoming drama “When the Phone Rings” has shared a sneak peek of Chae Soo Bin’s character!

Based on a web novel, “When the Phone Rings” depicts the romance of a couple that married for convenience as they receive a threatening phone call.

Chae Soo Bin plays Hong Hee Joo, the wife of Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok), who lost her ability to speak after a childhood accident. Hee Joo, in an arranged marriage with Sa Eon, does the bare minimum to keep up appearances and has no expectations or hope for her marriage. Living in a superficial marriage, Hee Joo’s world is shaken when she’s kidnapped by a mysterious figure. Ironically, this traumatic event pushes her to rethink her stagnant life and make a change.

In the newly released stills, Chae Soo Bin highlights the many sides of Hong Hee Joo: a skilled sign language interpreter, wife of a presidential spokesperson, and stepdaughter of a media mogul. Hee Joo is shown sitting in a news studio, neatly dressed and focused on her interpreting work. She appears calm and composed, conveying a sense of stability in her role.

 

 

In another still, she looks vulnerable, stirring a protective instinct in viewers. Despite wearing a luxurious tweed jacket and an elegant black dress, her facial expressions aren’t bright. With a worried look or a slight frown directed at someone, her demeanor piques curiosity about Hong Hee Joo’s story.

MBC's upcoming Friday-Saturday drama When the Phone Rings released actress Chae Soo Bin's (I'm Not a Robot) stills on October 15.

When the Phone Rings centers around a couple in their third year of arranged marriage. Despite being together for three years, the two have neither communicated with each other nor shared a meal. They would have continued living as usual, until their lives were turned upside down by a threatening phone call. 

Chae Soo Bin takes on the role of Hong Hui Ju, Baek Sa Eon's (Yoo Yeon Seok) wife, who has been suffering from mutism since a childhood accident. Married to Sa Eon just for the sake of convenience, Hui Ju only fulfills only the minimal role of a wife necessary to show others, with no expectations or will regarding married life. She would have continued living as usual had she not been kidnapped by a mysterious figure one day. Ironically, after this incident, Hui Ju decides to change her life that had been at a standstill. 

In the stills, Chae Soo Bin showcases the various aspects of Hong Hui Ju, a skilled sign language interpreter, the wife of a presidential spokesperson, and the stepdaughter of a media mogul. In one still, Hui Ju sits in a tidy outfit in a broadcasting news studio. Focused on her work as a sign language interpreter, she appears relaxed and stable.

 

 

In another still, she wears an elegant tweed jacket, her expression not particularly bright, raising curiosity about the kind of life she leads. 

 

 

 

Expectations are high for Chae Soo Bin's portrayal of Hong Hui Ju's emotional depth.
