Kim Se-jung is Brewing Love with Lee Jong-won

by solstices

1726209984870436.jpg

It’s time to raise a toast with ENA’s upcoming rom-com Brewing Love, which will have its spirited heroine Kim Se-jung (The Uncanny Counter 2) clinking glasses with the perceptive Lee Jong-won (Bad Memory Eraser). As our apéritif, we have script reading stills to whet our appetite ahead of the drama’s premiere.

Through six years of diligent work, our heroine Chae Yong-joo (Kim Se-jung) has earned the moniker of “the legendary sales queen” at the liquor company she works at. She’s fervent and direct, bolstered by a staunch constitution and steady mentality befitting her time in the special forces. Alas, Yong-joo is also partial to keeping her emotions bottled up — that is, until her branch finds itself facing imminent closure.

Resolving to revitalize her branch’s sales through introducing a new alcohol, Yong-joo seeks out the brewery CEO Yoon Min-joo (Lee Jong-won). With skills worthy of the “brewmaster” title, Min-joo’s beer is extraordinary enough to shake up the market — which is exactly what Yong-joo needs. But Min-joo is an empath who’s highly attuned to others’ feelings. In an effort to avoid the overwhelm that his extreme sensitivity often brings on, he’s retreated to a quiet countyside village so he can block out the influence of extraneous emotions.

Having focused solely on his brewery and his own emotions all this while, Min-joo soon finds his tranquil life upended by Yong-joo’s relentless sales pitches. Adding on to the chaos is Shin Do-hyun (Doom At Your Service) as the practical Bang Ah-reum, a planning team manager competing against her rival Yong-joo to recruit Min-joo first. Luckily for our brewer, his free-spirited best friend Oh Chan-hwi — played by Baek Sung-chul (Tell Me That You Love Me) — is in his corner, toast truck and all.

Adorably, our lead characters’ names match their personalities, since they can be read as “brave liquor” and “sensitive liquor” respectively. Will the straightforward “lager” Yong-joo mesh with the delicate “ale” Min-joo, creating a harmonious blend of complementary flavors? Or will their encounters leave them all shaken (not stirred) up? Either way, it’s certainly worth a shot!

Helmed by PD Park Seon-ho (Business Proposal) with scripts penned by Lee Jung-shin, Brewing Love will pour its first glass on November 4.

Kim Se-jung and Lee Jong-won compete over Brewing Love

by tccolb

Drunken_Romance-SM1.jpg

The first posters and teaser have dropped for ENA’s new rom-com Brewing Love, cutely placing our quarreling leads Kim Se-jung (Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch) and Lee Jong-won (Bad Memory Eraser) in a one-on-one competition over pouring beer.

Now, it doesn’t look like they’re going for a “perfect pour,” and if K-variety shows have taught me anything, the spiller is likely the loser. However, the game is really just the teaser’s set dressing – though it fits with the drama’s theme – and it’s fun to see our opposite leads clashing as well as sparking a little bubbly ~love~.

True to their personalities, the sales-savvy and boisterous Chae Yong-joo (Kim Se-jung) lets the beer slosh out with gusto. All the while, the sensitive brewmaster Yoon Min-joo (Lee Jong-won) is cautious and mindful with every last drop.

Then (gasp!) it happens, that accidental brush of their hands. Cue the music and let all the stomach-fluttering butterflies go ham, as our pair become buzzed not on alcohol but that thing we call lurve. A flustered Min-joo can barely compose himself and is almost sent over the edge when Yong-joo gives a cheeky wink.

Our hero is saved, though, when he notices the overflowing beer. But in another omo-inducing moment, both Min-joo and Yong-joo lean in instinctively to lick the spilled foam from the glass. The trailer then teasingly closes as the lights go out over our pair.

Directed by PD Park Sun-ho (Business Proposal) with scripts by Lee Jung-shin, ENA’s Brewing Love is slated to premiere on November 4, following Dear Hyeri in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

She’s fiercely loyal to her team and takes on a special mission to protect the sales branch she has worked at for six years. But her life changes when she meets a man who understands her heart better than she does.

A new look at Chae Yong Joo’s dynamic character sparks curiosity. Her passion as the top saleswoman is clear as she’s seen fully focused on putting up posters to promote the company’s beer. Another intriguing scene shows her in floral-print work pants. Holding a sickle and staring intensely into the distance as if on a special mission, her sharp gaze conveys determination and raises even more questions.

Another still shows Chae Yong Joo sharply aiming at her target, hinting at her past in the special forces. Viewers are left wondering why Yong Joo, who was once a soldier, chose to enter the liquor industry. All eyes are on the changes ahead for Yong Joo as she balances her cheerful charm with her strong, determined side, highlighting her dynamic character.

Kim Sejeong shared, “I believe Yong Joo and Min Joo’s growth will offer comfort to people who have lost themselves while living for others. I’m also excited to present the different episodes that unfold in the liquor industry, which I think will be interesting to watch.”

She also reflected on reuniting with director Park Seon Ho after their hit “A Business Proposal.” “Even though it’s a new project, it feels like coming back to a hometown I’ve missed. We have a deep understanding of each other on set,” she said, adding, “Since I’ve found such a comfortable space, I’m working hard to show a different side of myself compared to my previous work.”

Kim Sejeong described her character Yong Joo as “someone who received a lot of love growing up but matured early.” She aimed to reflect Yong Joo’s background as a former special forces soldier, highlighting her spirit of challenge and determination.

The actress added, “Yong Joo has a bright and strong exterior, but she hides her true feelings deep inside. Many aspects of Yong Joo remind me of my own childhood. If I hadn’t met so many kind people, I might still be in the same place as Yong Joo, which makes me approach the role with extra sensitivity.”

“Brewing Love” is set to premiere on November 4 at 10 p.m. KST. Stay tuned!
