Plot

 

“Guardians” tells the story of people working to make up for an imperfect law. It will be the first Korean drama to feature electronic supervisors and probation officers, and will shed more light on the lives of probation officers who help, monitor, and restrain criminals.

The drama tells the story of a probation officer who prevents probationers from reoffending and helps them reintegrate into society. It depicts the daily lives and joys and sorrows of probation officers belonging to the Probation Office's Electronic Supervision Department.

Character descriptions

 

Bok Tae-joo (Jung Sung Il) is a 9-year electronic supervisor and probation officer who has his own definition of justice and is willing to do whatever it takes to put those who are likely to reoffend behind bars. As he considers even minor offences to be unacceptable and sends people straight to prison if he gets the opportunity, he is known as the “Grim Reaper.”

 

Song Hyun-woo ()is a third-year probation officer who has sophisticated fashion and values 'work-life balance', and is a person who plays the role of atmosphere maker in the electronic supervision department.

Han Do Kyung (Lee joo Bin) is good at different martial arts such as judo, kendo, taekwondo, and more. She has a cheerful and calm personality that exudes positive energy.

Jung Sung Il will possibly have his first-ever leading role.

On April 13, industry insiders revealed that Jung Sung Il has been cast in the upcoming K-drama Guardians.

Jung Sung Il's agency Key East Entertainment shared their side regarding the casting reports. According to the agency, Jung Sung Il is positively reviewing the offer to lead the new K-drama.

Guardians will be the first-ever Korean drama that will highlight the stories of probation officers who are tasked to monitor, help, and arrest criminals. 

Jung Sung Il got the offer to play the role of Bok Tae Joo, a probation officer. 

There are no details yet on who will work alongside Jung Sung Il and when and where the upcoming K-drama will be broadcasted.

This K-drama will possibly be the follow-up project of the actor after starring in the Netflix original series The Glory Part 2

Jung Sung Il became more known after being part of The Glory. He has received a lot of offers after being more known through the series. He was praised for his acting skills and great chemistry with co-stars Im Ji Yeon and Song Hye Kyo

 

The actor made his acting debut in 2002. He has starred in several K-dramas in a supporting role in The Return of Iljimae, The Running Mates: Human Rights, Woman of 9.9 Billion, Stranger Season 2, Birthcare Center, Times, Bad and Crazy, Our Blues, and more.

Jung Sung Il is also active in movies. Just last year, he was part of the movie Project Wolf Hunting. He also participated in the films The Chase, Hide and Never Seek, Like a French Film, Makgeolli Girls, The Con Artists, A Frozen Flower, and The Art of Seduction.

Aside from acting, Jung Sung Il is also known for being active in musicals.

On April 13, Sung Jung Il’s agency KeyEast shared with News1, “Jung Sung Il has received an offer for new drama ‘Guardians’ [literal translation] and is positively considering his appearance.”

EXO Xiumin appears in drama ‘Guardians’… resume acting activities

Xiumin, a member of the group EXO, appears in the new drama ‘Guardians’.

On the May 24th, a broadcasting official said, “Xiumin has received an offer to appear on ‘Guardians’ and is discussing it positively.”

 

The drama tells the story of a probation officer who prevents probationers from reoffending and helps them reintegrate into society. This is the first drama to deal with this topic, and it depicts the daily lives and joys and sorrows of probation officers belonging to the Probation Office's Electronic Supervision Department.

Xiumin plays the role of electronic director and youngest member Song Hyun-woo in the drama. He is a ‘MZ Generation’ character who considers the balance between work and daily life to be the most important while working as a probation officer for three years, taking advantage of his law major. He also plays an active role as a mood maker for the team with his unique personality.

EXO's Xiumin will no longer be part of the upcoming K-drama Guardians.

On January 5, media outlet Star News shared that EXO member Xiumin decided to not appear in the upcoming thriller K-drama Guardians

Guardians will revolve around people who are doing their best to make up for an imperfect law. The K-drama will feature electronic supervisors and probation officers and the work they do to help and monitor criminals. 

Xiumin was offered to portray the role of Song Hyun Woo, the youngest electronic director. He is in his third year as a probation officer and he practices the work-life balance. Previously, it was revealed that Xiumin was positively considering to star in the upcoming K-drama. Ultimately, Xiumin decided to decline the offer. 

The upcoming K-drama will be led by The Glory actor Jung Sung Il

Guardians is set to exclusively premiere on SBS. There is no confirmation yet on the release date of the thriller K-drama.

This upcoming K-drama was supposed to be the continuation of Xiumin's acting activities. The EXO member resumed his acting last year as he appeared in the TVING K-drama Boss-dol Mart with Lee Shin Young, MONSTA X's Hyung Won, Choi Jung Woon, Choi Won Myung, and Lee Sae On. He played the role of a K-pop idol who decided to take charge of a struggling supermarket. 

Xiumin began his acting career officially through the 2015 web K-drama Falling for Do Jeon with Kim So Eun, Jang Yoo Sang, Jang Hee Ryung, Hong Je Yi, Park In Hwan, and more. This was his first time leading a web K-drama. After eight years of hiatus from acting, Xiumin returned and starred in Boss-dol Mart. 

Aside from acting, Xiumin is active in all EXO and EXO-CBX activities.

On April 23, media outlets reported that Lee Joo Bin is joining the upcoming K-drama Guardians. According to reports, ever since Lee Joo Bin starred in the hit K-drama Queen of Tears, the actress has been receiving several offers to star in different works.
