larus
DNA Lover: Episodes 5-6 by Dramaddictally As our genuinely misguided geneticist pursues new evidence for destined DNA love, our hard-to-tie-down hero sets his sights on pursuing her. And the more we learn about his questionable tactics to win hearts, the more sense it makes that our sidelined second male lead is interjecting himself in the middle. EPISODES 5-6 Whoa. Whose side are we supposed to be on here? The drama has me on my toes, wanting to like Yeon-woo, but not trusting him a single scintilla. We learn this week that he’s not just a man with a lot of dates, he’s one that manipulates feelings to make women fall in love. When we ended last time, our hero was headed for So-jin’s face with pursed lips. But before he makes contact, she headbutts him and yells, “That’s how you get to know someone?!” She’d prefer to stick to her scientific experiments for getting acquainted, thankyouverymuch. And yet, later, she can’t help but to think fondly of his forward moves. Kang-hoon is witness to the almost kiss, putting him on the defensive for his romantically naïve bestie since birth. He tells So-jin not to fall for every man that’s nice to her, and then tries to have a serious conversation with Yeon-woo about it. When Yeon-woo casually asserts that he’s curious about So-jin, and so he wants to pursue her, Kang-hoon asks, “Are you going to make her cry like all the others?” But Yeon-woo won’t be deterred. And so, when So-jin is assaulted at work by a (genetically) disgruntled rich lady, Yeon-woo takes So-jin out to a noraebang, where he dominates the mic until she’s tapping her feet and becoming increasingly interested in him. (It’s also where Shindong and Leeteuk show up disguised as noraebang employees to give us a cameo performance by Super Junior’s sub-unit L.S.S.) Determined to discover her DNA match, So-jin begins working on finding a telepathy gene. (*exhales profusely* Yeah, just go with it.) The idea is that whoever is fated for you may be able to pick up on mental signals you’re sending out, or you two might even be able to feel each other’s pain. Evidence for this? Well, So-jin is allergic to pollen and while she’s suited up in the lab looking like she’s ready for a HAZMAT team, she starts to sneeze. And this happens to be just when Yeon-woo is at a flower shop picking out the prettiest petals he can find for her. Needless to say, buying flowers as part of his seduction plan doesn’t go over well. But the fact that our heroine may have connected to him telepathically while he was buying them is much more up her alley in terms of a come on. Problems arise, though, because our hero is a seasoned game player, looking for ways to make her feel connected to him. There’s a moment when they both say aloud what food they’re craving (“mandu guk!”) and then see it as evidence of their telepathy. This seems like a chintzy coincidence until we find out later that Yeon-woo had asked So-jin’s friend what her favorite food was. When it came time to say what he was craving, he took a shot and it worked (a.k.a., he duped her). But our unsuspecting heroine sees it as another sign of their cosmic connection. Kang-hoon becomes increasingly worried about So-jin’s blossoming infatuation with Yeon-woo. He tells a colleague that Yeon-woo is a dangerous guy who “has a habit of making women fall in love with him but then, when he has a change of heart, he kicks them to the curb.” And once we learn that he’s manufacturing ways to feed So-jin’s romantic fantasy, it feels like “dangerous” is not an overstatement. As a (not-even-a-little-scientific) experiment to test their telepathy, So-jin names two locales in the city and tells Yeon-woo to meet her at the one she’s thinking of. She’ll send him mental signals, so he knows which of the two places she’ll be at, and if he arrives at the correct one, then obviously they are oh-so-destined for each other. To the show’s credit, they end up in different places. And, even better, Yeon-woo runs into Mi-eun and So-jin runs into Kang-hoon. But while our second leads seem happy, our leads are wishing they had run into each other instead. more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/09/dna-lover-episodes-5-6/

When and where to watch the K-drama DNA Lover? Episode 9 of DNA Lover will air on September 14 (Saturday). The K-drama is available to stream on Viki. https://mydramalist.com/article/love-next-door-rises-in-ratings-drops-in-netflix-rankings DNA Lover: Episodes 7-8 by Dramaddictally Feelings take shape, jealousies abound, and kisses are a-comin’. At this point, all four of our leads have made up their minds about where their hearts lie, but unfortunately these feelings don’t align on all fronts. As much as our characters try to control their emotions, I see some non-genetically determined hurts in their futures. EPISODES 7-8 “In my world, there are two types of men. The ones that I’m madly attracted to genetically but that keep hurting me. And the ones I’m not genetically attracted to at all but that keep saving me.” Is it just me, or has our heroine hit on a basic life truth? Chemistry doesn’t always lead you in the healthiest direction. And sometimes you should just pick the firefighter. But anyway, what a problem to have, right? So-jin utters the above quote to herself as she’s laid up in a hospital bed with sudden gastroenteritis — while her new crush competes with her life-long best friend to stay by her side. While neither of these men were totally sure of how they felt about her last week, they are very certain now, and even ready to act on it. So, how did we get here? Well, this week’s genetic nonsense has to do with gut germs. If two people eat the same foods, the germs that develop in their guts will attract each other like magnets. (Or some such “scientific explanation.”) The plot point here is that our leading lady decides that the reason Yeon-woo and Mi-eun seem like such a perfect match is because they like and eat the same (expensive) foods. And so, if So-jin can get our hero to scarf down the cheap convenience store stuff that she loves so much, their stomachs will soon be exerting a gravitational pull toward each other. This plan comes about when Yeon-woo asks So-jin out on a dinner date to a fancy-schmancy restaurant that he frequents — and the two run into Mi-eun with one of her many men. This isn’t so strange because it’s a place that Yeon-woo and Mi-eun go to regularly together, and they both love it. The two pairs end up sitting at the same table and both women are instantly jealous. So-jin learns that in the past Mi-eun and Yeon-woo dated for three years, breaking up twice and getting back together. So-jin witnesses their similar tastes and their easy manner with each other, and starts to think they have everything in common, while she’s on the outside. She wants to develop the same kind of kinship with Yeon-woo that Mi-eun has — hence, the plan to get their gut germs hooked on the same instant ramen. And on Mi-eun’s side we’ve got some development this week as it’s revealed that her feelings for Yeon-woo are stronger than what she feels for any of her other partners. Even when they’re broken up, it feels to her like they’re still dating. Or, it did until So-jin entered the picture. We learned last week that Yeon-woo liked dating Mi-eun precisely because she was polyamorous. In Episode 6, he said he liked the “comfortable distance — a relationship that’s not too far and not too close.” So, the player and the polyamorist worked out well when they were both distant and staying within the bounds of their lifestyles. However, we’ve got problems on both sides now. Yeon-woo appears to be changing up his game for So-jin (and Mi-eun recognizes this). And the fact that Yeon-woo is actually getting close to someone triggers Mi-eun’s jealousy and makes her want him more. At one point, she’s says she knows “it’s not right” to want him for herself — given her philosophy on relationships — but the hurt and rejection she feels seem to be changing her attitude. The worst of it comes on her birthday, when she drops by Yeon-woo’s apartment hoping to spend the evening with him, and he turns her away without a thought because he has plans with So-jin. Mi-eun’s feelings increase the more he distances from her and pulls toward So-jin — despite the fact that our heroine’s food-matching plan fails! more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/09/dna-lover-episodes-7-8/

larus
DNA Lover: Episodes 9-10 by Dramaddictally Our leads are falling in love this week. Since their first kiss, they’ve moved on to handholding, trips to the sea, and trying to change each other (at the DNA level). While our overprotective firefighter backs off to let love breathe, our interloping dating columnist is trying to drum up drama. EPISODES 9-10 Following their kiss in the hospital bed last week, So-jin and Yeon-woo are suddenly close as can be, joking around, making future plans, and even exchanging gifts. When So-jin receives a pair of fancy heels, she tells Yeon-woo not to worry about her running away (because she’s certain he’s her fated lover). But when she whips out a couple item (matching DNA-strand bracelets), he’s not as psyched as she is to partake in wearing them. Although, he concedes. Since they’re officially dating now, the bulk of these episodes has our new couple finding ways to show they care. So-jin thinks of Yeon-woo non-stop, never wanting to get off the phone, and she’s already got her heart set on a happy ending. At the same time, Yeon-woo is surprising himself (and everyone else) by wanting to get closer to her, rather than keep his cool and safe distance. In a lovely one-liner, he tells us: “Love is a game where the one who keeps their distance wins. But this woman makes me want to lose the game.” (Awww. That’s actually sweet, in a player-ish way.) But while Yeon-woo is trying to lower his cool, So-jin is trying to gain some nonchalance. Jealousy is weighing on her at every turn — where any woman that Yeon-woo is in contact with is a possible threat. And while most of these ladies are nothing to worry about, there is a specific woman that’s coming on strong: our polyamorous protagonist, who suddenly has her eyes on only one man. Mi-eun visits So-jin’s office, wearing the same brand of shoes that Yeon-woo gifted So-jin, and makes it seem like they got their footwear from the same person. Then she blathers on about how they dated for three years and have a deep connection — leaving So-jin anxious and fuming, but unwilling to show her upset. So-jin believes that Yeon-woo is her destiny, but Mi-eun says she doesn’t believe in destiny (a.k.a., she’s ready to fight for him). With anxiety rampant and nowhere to direct it, So-jin decides to try to alter Yeon-woo’s DNA. She’s wants to turn off his cheater gene and activate the unexpressed monogamy gene (which is evidently recessive?) and then she can finally sleep at night. To do this, she bottles up a gene-suppressing spritz and tells him to use it daily. He agrees, but only if, in return, she’ll go on a trip with him abroad (which our homebody heroine is reluctant to do). Things get even worse for So-jin when she admits to Yeon-woo that she loves him. (She loves him a lot! In her words.) And Yeon-woo doesn’t say anything back. Actually, he gets awkward, changes the subject, and then high-tails it out of there. But, as we learn, our male lead has deep-seated trauma due to his father’s infidelity and his mother’s obsession with holding onto the marriage in spite of it. The truth is, Yeon-woo doesn’t want to burden anyone by connecting to them. He won’t say “I love you” unless he’s sure he can mean it forever (which is a pretty tall order). And while So-jin is infuriated that he didn’t say it back, we see Yeon-woo spritzing himself with the playboy-suppressant mist on the daily. So, he’s trying! He also tries to covertly indicate to So-jin that not everybody has the same skills when it comes to love. What’s easy for some people to say directly is really difficult for others — but it doesn’t mean they don’t feel it. To show her how he feels about her, he suggests a trip to the seaside. En route, he reaches over to hold her hand in the car. Ohhhh! This is the first time this drama gave me legit feels. And once they’re on the sand, it’s walking, talking, and handholding central. They’re adorable. And our man is really coming around. But when you’re on Episode 10 and this much closeness occurs, there’s only one direction for our elation to go — and that’s down. Just as our leads are starting to think they’re finding their groove together, they get in a fight. So-jin is optimistic, assuming their relationship could (or will) last forever, but Yeon-woo is more realistic and isn’t certain how things will go. He understands that it could end at some point — not that he wants it to — but that it could. However, So-jin wants to hear him express his love and commit to happily ever after. To close our week, we finally get confirmation that the basketball jersey that So-jin swiped for DNA purposes (back in Episode 3) does indeed belong to Kang-hoon. Of course, we had this suspicion since then, but what I didn’t understand until now is that Yeon-woo has known the whole time. So, what does this mean? First, Kang-hoon is So-jin’s DNA Lover. And second, Yeon-woo is still a liar! Is he keeping it from So-jin so she’ll fall for him anyway? (This guy. Just when I was starting to like him.) Anyway, Yeon-woo tells Mi-eun about the DNA mix-up, and she then tells Kang-hoon. It seems So-jin is the only one out of the loop. Except, just as the episode ends, So-jin is standing in the doorway looking shocked, just after Mi-eun has revealed the news to Kang-hoon. So, it seems that So-jin knows. more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/09/dna-lover-episodes-9-10/

larus
Choi Siwon Is Shocked To See Jung In Sun And And Lee Tae Hwan Hugging In "DNA Lover" Drama Preview Sep 22, 2024 by S Nam TV Chosun’s “DNA Lover” has unveiled new stills ahead of the upcoming episode! “DNA Lover” is a romantic comedy starring Jung In Sun as Han So Jin, a genetic researcher who has been through countless failed relationships. As she searches for her destined partner through genes, she winds up becoming entangled with sensitive obstetrician Shim Yeon Woo (Super Junior’s Choi Siwon). Spoilers Previously, Shim Yeon Woo and Han So Jin once again confirmed their feelings for one another, but Shim Yeon Woo suddenly left after saying his farewell to Han So Jin. The episode ended with Han So Jin meeting her actual “DNA Lover” Seo Kang Hoon (Lee Tae Hwan). The newly released stills depict Shim Yeon Woo being shocked after witnessing Han So Jin and Seo Kang Hoon hugging. Han So Jin appears relieved to see Seo Kang Hoon safe and sound. Seo Kang Hoon hugs Han So Jin while comforting her as she cries. Meanwhile, Shim Yeon Woo watches the scene unfold with a stiff expression, making viewers wonder how their relationship will shift.
