Plot

'Namib' begins when Kang Soo-hyun, the CEO of an entertainment agency, meets Yoo Jin-woo, a talented but long-term trainee who cannot debut for some reason. Kang Soo-hyeon tells the story of a long-legged woman who has bad intentions toward Jin-woo, who raises him well and sells him to another company, then decides to buy a factory for her disabled son.

Go Hyun Jung may be starring in a new drama!

On February 19, STARNEWS reported that Go Hyun Jung will be starring in the new drama “Namib” (romanized title).

In response to the report, Go Hyun Jung’s agency IOK Company shared, “Go Hyun Jung received an offer to star in the drama ‘Namib’ and is currently reviewing the offer.”

“Namib” depicts the story of a female CEO of an entertainment agency and a male trainee. Go Hyun Jung was reportedly offered to play the role of CEO Kang Soo Hyun, who first approaches the male trainee Yoo Jin Woo with bad intentions but gradually helps Yoo Jin Woo achieve his dream.

Go Hyun Jung recently impressed through her role of Kim Mo Mi in the Netflix series “Mask Girl,” which was released in August of last year. Stay tuned for more updates on her next project!

Go Hyun Jung will possibly star in another upcoming K-drama!

On February 19, media outlets reported that Go Hyun Jung will be leading the upcoming K-drama Namib (working title) and she will portray the role of an entertainment company CEO.

Go Hyun Jung's agency IOK Company then responded to the casting reports. According to the agency, "Go Hyun Jung got the offer to lead the upcoming K-drama and she is currently positively reviewing it." 

 If Go Hyun Jung confirms her casting, this will be her second upcoming K-drama. The top actress is set to star in the upcoming series The Mantis, the Korean remake of the French series La Mante that premiered in 2017. 

Go Hyun Jung was last seen in the 2023 Netflix original K-drama Mask Girl with Lee Han Byeol, After School's Nana, Ahn Jae Hong, Yeom Hye Ran, and Shin Ye Seo.

She is best known for starring in the K-dramas Reflection of You, Dear My Friends, The Queen's Classroom, Queen Seon Duk, Sandglass, A Love Without Fear, and more.
 

 

Namib will depict the story of an entertainment agency CEO and a long-term male trainee. The CEO approached the male trainee with bad intentions at first but eventually, she will help her to realize his dreams.

On February 20, media outlets reported that Ryeoun had been picked to join Go Hyun Jung in the upcoming K-drama Namib. According to the reports, Ryeoun is positively reviewing the offer to join the upcoming series. 

Namib will revolve around an entertainment agency CEO and a long-term male trainee. The CEO approached the long-term male trainee with selfish intention at first but eventually, she will help her to realize his dreams. 

Ryeoun got the offer to play the role of Yoo Jin Woo, a long-term trainee. He was assigned to CEO Kang Soo Hyun, played by Go Hyun Jung, to be trained. He has been a trainee for a long time and wasn't able to debut for some reason. 

The upcoming K-drama will be the next work of director Jung Da Won (Miss & Mrs. Cops and Garak Market Revolution) and writer Um Sung Min (Default).

There is no confirmation yet on the broadcast date and channel of the upcoming K-drama Namib. 

If Ryeoun decides to join the upcoming series, this will be his fourth upcoming project. 

Ryeoun is set to star in the upcoming K-drama Weak Hero Class 2 with Park Ji Hoon, Bae Na Ra, Lee Min Jae, Lee Jun Young, and Choi Min Young. 

He will also lead the upcoming OTT K-dramas The Borrowed Body and History of Losers.

ENA just confirmed their main cast for their underdog drama Namib, starring Go Hyun-jung (Mask Girl), Ryeoun (Twinkling Watermelon), Yoon Sang-hyun (18 Again), and Lee Jin-woo (Snap and Spark).

The story follows entertainment CEO and star producer Kang Su-hyun (Go Hyun-jung). She’s somewhat of a maverick in the entertainment field, with a philosophy unto herself as to how she works with trainees and idols, but her results always speak for themselves. So it comes as a shock when she one day gets unceremoniously fired from her own company.

 

With nothing left to lose, she decides to pour all her eggs into one basket and try one last time to debut a star. And she has just the person in mind: nineteen-year-old trainee Yoo Jin-woo (Ryeoun).

Jin-woo, while talented, has been stuck in the trainee grind at his company for the past ten years. He’s long since given up on his dream, and with his parents debts and his own emotional baggage at being neglected, he’s not the most eager pupil for Su-hyun. But if these two entertainment exiles are going to have a chance at the big stage, they’re going to have to work together.

And rounding out the rest of the main cast we have Su-hyun’s family who will endure the shockwaves of Su-hyun’s career. First there’s Su-hyun’s husband, Shim Jun-seok (Yoon Sang-hyun), a former music producer who’s also itching for a chance to redeem himself. While the story sounds like a heartwarming come up tale… and I love me some Ryeoun… in the very year of the HYBE vs. Min Hee-jin beef, I can’t be the only one who finds the timing of this story absolutely insane right? I’m definitely curious to see the teasers now.

The promo campaign has set sail with a pretty first poster and script reading stills for ENA’s upcoming Namib, promising an underdog tale about music, healing, family, and growth with Go Hyun-jung (Mask Girl) as our heroine and entertainment agency CEO lead.

Although she’s the star producer who brought great success to her company, our story begins with Kang Soo-hyun (Go Hyun-jung) facing a surprising and abrupt termination, leaving her with limited options on how to move forward in her career.

 

This is when her eyes turn to long-time trainee Ryeoun (Twinkling Watermelon) in the role of Yoo Jin-woo. Having been stuck as an idol trainee for years on end with little hope for a real debut, Jin-woo’s self-confidence is on the rocks and though a challenge, Soo-hyun decides to bank in on his promising talent.

Also stepping up in this new journey is Soo-hyun’s husband Yoon Sang-hyun (Perfect Family). For the last ten years, Shim Jun-seok (Yoon Sang-hyun) was the homemaker and stay-at-home dad for their family. But he used to work in the industry as a music producer and he’s enlisted by Soo-hyun to help with Project Jin-woo.

Go Hyun-jung and Ryeoun pursue their dreams in Namib

The first teaser for ENA’s new series Namib has come swimming in on the ocean tide, giving much needed refreshment to our story’s parched underdogs Go Hyun-jung (Mask Girl) and Ryeoun (Twinkling Watermelon) in this story about family and dreams.

Giving us a little more insight into the drama’s title, the teaser takes us directly to its namesake the Namib, a vast desert stretching up from South Africa next to the Atlantic coastline, spanning across Namibia to Angola. It’s a striking landscape with the bluest waters meeting the arid sands and the scene then transitions to our two leads, similarly separated but together in the same space.

 

The voiceover and captions then introduce our characters, calling Kang Soo-hyun (Go Hyun-jung) a woman who is desolate like the desert. Indeed, Soo-hyun is in a desperate situation, now ousted from the entertainment company that she built as the CEO and having to start over from scratch.

Her last hope is turning the talented but long-time trainee Yoo Jin-woo (Ryeoun) into a star, who is likened by the teaser to a wandering child, struggling to find his footing amidst the ocean waves.

Soo-hyun then closes the divide between them by running to Jin-woo and the short teaser comes to an with the final screen, reading, “The place where the desert and sea meet to become a dream.”

Production for ENA’s Namib has Eom Sung-min (Default) writing alongside co-directing by PD Han Sang-jae (Cold Blooded Intern) and PD Kang Min-goo. Slated to air in the Monday-Tuesday slot, the series follows Brewing Love on December 23 next month.

Ryeoun Transforms Into An Idol Trainee Who Loses Hope Of Making His Debut In “Namib”

ENA’s “Namib” has shared a new sneak peek at Ryeoun’s character as an idol trainee!

 

“Namib” depicts the meeting of former entertainment agency CEO Kang Soo Hyun (Go Hyun Jung) and longtime trainee Yoo Jin Woo (Ryeoun), who gets kicked out of his agency, as they each head toward their own goals.

 

Ryeoun will be playing Pandora Entertainment’s longtime idol trainee Yoo Jin Woo. With his exceptional musical talent, Yoo Jin Woo was sent off to an agency from a young age by his parents. While trying to survive amidst a turbulent reality, Yoo Jin Woo’s heart begins to waver like ocean waves.

 

After being dropped from the debut group every time, causing his dream of becoming a star to fade, Yoo Jin Woo gets kicked out of his agency, which was his only source of shelter. Viewers are curious to find out if  Yoo Jin Woo, who has no place to go and no longer has any confidence in himself, will find a way to survive the harsh reality.

 

The newly released stills capture the two sides of Yoo Jin Woo. In one still, he is showcasing his dazzling music talent while playing the guitar, while another still captures him looking as if his whole world has collapsed. The happy expression from when he is singing is gone, leaving a bitter gaze.

 

 

Ryeoun remarked, “Before my debut, I was also in the position of fiercely making my way one step at a time, so I got the thought that I could portray Yoo Jin Woo’s inner feelings very well.”

 

The actor continued, “Yoo Jin Woo’s first impression is that of a child who could be swept up and broken by a wave at any moment, but while filming, I realized that he is a high school student who has dreams just like any other high school student and wants to spend his everyday life happily. I acted while placing focus on how a kid who was once satisfied with just living begins to change.”

 

Having previously impressed with his guitar skills in “Twinkling Watermelon,” Ryeoun remarked, “I’m working hard to make good results through repeated practice and training.”

“Namib” will premiere on December 23 at 10 p.m. KST.
