Jung Hae In Is Surprised To See Jung So Min Cheering Him On At A Swim Meet In "Love Next Door"

The next episode of tvN’s “Love Next Door” will feature a flashback to Jung Hae In and Jung So Min’s past!

“Love Next Door” is a new romantic comedy by the director and writer of the hit drama “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.” Jung So Min stars as Bae Seok Ryu, a woman who tries to reboot her troubled life after it goes awry. Jung Hae In plays her mom’s friend’s son Choi Seung Hyo, whom she considers a dark and embarrassing chapter in her life.

Spoilers

In newly released stills from its upcoming third episode, the drama returns to its leads’ high school days, when Choi Seung Hyo, Bae Seok Ryu, and Jung Mo Eum (Kim Ji Eun) were an inseparable trio.

The first set of photos captures the three students in an empty classroom, passionately writing letters to themselves from 10 years in the future. Like the model student he is, Choi Seung Hyo appears calm and focused, while Bae Seok Ryu is bubbling over with excitement as she writes. Finally, the quirky Jung Mo Eum seems to be lost in her own world.

The three students’ sincerity as they write letters to their future selves—which will be enclosed in a time capsule for the next decade—raises the question of what they will find when they reopen these letters from the past.

In the next set of photos, Bae Seok Ryu goes to Choi Seung Hyo’s swim meet by herself to cheer him on.

When he hears a familiar voice from the stands, Choi Seung Hyo looks up and is surprised to see Bae Seok Ryu sitting alone with a placard that reads, “Let’s go, Choi Seung Hyo of Hyereung High School!” Although the duo may be constantly bickering, they truly are closer than family.

Jung Hae In Angrily Grabs Jung So Min’s Former Colleague By The Collar In "Love Next Door"

Spoilers

On the previous episode of “Love Next Door,” Choi Seung Hyo was revealed to have been hiding a crush on Bae Seok Ryu during his high school days.

In newly released stills from the drama’s upcoming fourth episode, Choi Seung Hyo attends a business meeting for his architectural firm Atelier In. As the meeting is with Bae Seok Ryu’s former company Greip, she tags along to help him out—but things take an unexpected turn when she runs into her former colleague Chris (Hayden Won).

While Choi Seung Hyo initially looks as confident and composed as ever, Bae Seok Ryu is unable to hide her nervousness and discomfort during the meeting. However, in stark contrast to Bae Seok Ryu’s awkward demeanor, Chris seems completely relaxed while interacting with her.

Later, when Bae Seok Ryu runs into Chris in a hotel corridor, he even goes so far as to try to pet her hair—but Choi Seung Hyo suddenly arrives on the scene to stop him. With a furious look in his eye, the enraged Choi Seung Hyo grabs Chris by the collar, piquing curiosity as to what could have made him so angry—and what sort of past Chris and Bae Seok Ryu share.

Watch: Jung Hae In And Jung So Min Are Sweet And Adorable Behind The Scenes Of "Love Next Door"

tvN’s “Love Next Door” has unveiled a new making-of video from episodes 3 and 4!

Spoilers

The newly released video showcases both adorable and hilarious moments of Jung So Min and Jung Hae In. In one scene, the two are at an indoor pool where Seung Hyo teases Seok Ryu about a childish time capsule letter she wrote to herself in high school. Their playful banter escalates when Seung Hyo—and later Seok Ryu—jump into the water for real.

While filming in the water, Jung Hae In attempts to help Jung So Min stay afloat by suggesting she imagine herself as a jellyfish. However, she struggles and ends up pushing him down to stay above water. After the shoot, Jung So Min apologizes, laughing about the water that went up her nose. As filming progresses, Jung Hae In sweetly assists her by holding her gently and even massages her, making viewers’ hearts flutter with his thoughtful gestures.

The video also takes viewers back to the characters’ high school days. In one scene, Bae Seok Ryu climbs into Choi Seung Hyo’s room through the window, which then leads to a comical argument between the two. As they rehearse, Jung Hae In suggests she swear more to heighten the scene’s intensity, resulting in a flurry of beep-censored dialogue. The scene culminates with Jung So Min threatening him with a small hatchet, further highlighting their dynamic and the humor of their characters.

“Love Next Door” airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 p.m. KST.

Love Next Door: Episodes 3-4

by missvictrix

LND0304_1.jpg

This week we get to know our main characters a bit more. Whether it’s dreams they lost, dreams they forgot, or secrets they’re trying to keep, it’s clear our OTP is intertwined in all the ways… and that they care about each other more than they pretend not to.

EPISODES 3-4

Despite being cute and engaging (I’m enjoying it, I swear!) Week 2 has left me a bit disappointed with the writing. While I really like the thematic focus of each episode, the episodes are starting to feel like a bunch of coincidental circumstances and emotional happenings just to create the crescendo — the scene we came to see. Sure, plot should lead to delicious moments like this drama is curating for us, but when it starts to feel fabricated and predictable that’s a hint that the writing isn’t holding up.

In Episode 3 our main focus is dreams. Seung-hyo lost his, Seok-ryu can’t find hers, and never the twain shall meet. We learn through a super cute series of flashbacks to high school (which the show spends a lot of time doing) that Seung-hyo was a great swimmer and even made it onto the national team. But then when a random Truck of Predictable Swimmer Plot Doom hit him, he had to give up his dream. Perky Seok-ryu finally got him out of his depression, and honestly, if you like this storyline, just go watch Lovely Runner instead — it’s proof that these tropes can still have life if you write them well.

Seung-hyo might have lost his first dream of swimming, but he truly loves his present dream of being an architect, and in these episodes we see his idealism at play (more on that later). Seok-ryu, though, realizes through a series of deepish thoughts, that she never had her own dreams. Her dreams were always based on others’ perception of her, or expectations of her, or how her life looked from the outside. This “reboot” season of hers is proving really helpful for her — I love that it’s in the quiet and the daily schedule of nothing that she realizes this about herself.

It comes to a head when she’s asked by her once-homeroom teacher to speak in front of a class of high schoolers. As is Seok-ryu’s MO, she leans on their being impressed by her, and her identity as an over-achiever. But when she can’t answer their question about what she dreamed of being, that’s when she realizes she doesn’t know herself very well. (This is a great thematic bit, and I hope this stays as Seok-ryu’s primary arc!)

Because Seok-ryu is an oddball, she believes if only she can read the letter she wrote to her future self as a high-schooler, she’ll immediately be able to reclaim her old dreams. We all know it doesn’t work like that, but her slapdash, not-so-clever way of banging through life is what makes this character endearing.

While she’s at the high school, who does she run into but Seung-hyo. He’s there for work, dreaming of putting in a bid to rebuild the school’s gym (aka, the place where his swimming dreams died). All through these episodes Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu are in a continuous cycle of sparring, bickering, or supporting each other. It’s cute for now, but it’ll get old fast if this is the main dynamic of their adult relationship. So, I’m hoping the show reveals more maturity between them by the end of our show. Because I will be seriously annoyed if the end point of our drama is these two bickering like teenagers to the tune of the wedding march. Anyway.

At their high school, Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu try to locate and dig up the time capsule (and letters to self) they once buried, but it takes the whole episode for it to happen — and honestly, if you like this storyline, just go watch Lovely Runner.

Later, Seung-hyo finally has the time capsule, and our leads are both coincidentally at the school again. Because this is a K-drama, our leads wind up chasing each other around the indoor pool, when Seung-hyo jumps in to escape Seok-ryu’s wrath for reading her letter. Is it me or did it suddenly get hot in here? (Seriously, what is it about heroes and pools?) Seok-ryu — who cannot swim — jumps in after him, and we all know how this goes. There was never a pool scene in dramaland that didn’t lead to serious sexual tension and/or skinship, and it’s obvious at this point that this entire plot arc – and entire episode — were building to this moment.

I have liked Seo Ji Hye's roles in many dramas, so it was good to see her in the ex-GF role today.

I was also happy that the ex-GF did not do anything too bad to cause confusion. I wonder if she will actually help our leads to finally open up their minds to each other.
