Reasons to watch: Anyone in the mood for an evocative, sad love story? *waves hand* In this cross-cultural romance drama, Lee Se-young is reunited with her ex Sakaguchi Kentaro five years after their breakup — which seemingly left some unresolved feelings. Love the filming locations and the transition between the past and the present.

The FL is so pretty and she and the ML look good together.

But I think the FL have a good chemistry with the 2ML too. :D

Now Im curious what happened so she despises the ML so much.

He looked as a nice guy.

@YongZura⁷ @newrocher22 @MayanEcho

The first 2 episodes were great! Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro are acing their roles. Their chemistry is off the charts and I really felt like I was seeing them falling in love with each other. Their skinship was mature and natural.

Dang, they were so much in love. What happened? What did he do to her? Am hoping it's some kind of misunderstanding. Maybe cultural? I have a feeling his ex (the witch) had something to do with it.

:brokenheart:

It's clear that Beni is super depressed. Even though she's in a new relationship, she doesn't love him at all. You can tell that she's on autopilot, working her behind off to try to stay afloat. She has ceased to feel any emotions except for sadness and possibly anger. That is clear.

It was also implied that he is in a loveless relationship. His eyes full of regret in ep 2 - too heartbreaking peeps :bawling:

This drama has the tag "second chance" - and I hope they will get it during the remaining 4 episodes.

@CarolynH are you watching this one chingu?

Glad that I don't have to 😭 alone and it's only 6 episode.

Spoiler

Side story:

I've known Sakaguchi Kentaro because  of BTS  😅 They have an OST for the drama "Signal" (a remake) where he acted in (I loved the drama both Korean and Japanese version) Plus they are his fan and friends too.

This is a very honest depiction though. If one is lucky to meet one's soul mate one day, it will feel just like this and you will act like this.

Maybe you are yet to meet yours, dongsaeng? :kiss_wink:

I think ep 2 depicted it even better, and also how it feels when you lose it. Maybe give ep 2 a chance?

Let's discuss this here.

That is honest for you? I'm always surprised how afar we sometimes are in these things noona.
Maybe it is because of the limited episodes, but the pacing is so far off. They had a whole relationship is not even 25 minutes, the coincidences are forced, it didn't feel natural for me in any case.

Yeah, if I get two shining heroic knight moments in like two days, my love interest applies for the same job as I and even there I can protect her from the evil fiend, she then randomly gets a job right in front of my workplace AND is the sole worker there, also has to do the same mall cleaning for as I do and somehow every other participant magically disappears and overall the whole city feels like it just has two streets and they constantly meet each other at random. then I am sure, even I would find a girl.
But is it a honest depiction? Naaaah~

Maybe their portrait of love itself is better during the relationship, but so far all I have seen is a very odd first episode. Maybe I give the second episode a shot, but for now, I don't really feel it.
I mean, of course he comes to Korea and she is the first person he meets at the airport. Like they are the only people on earth. It's so magically christmas landy.

I would advise you to watch the second episode. My comments were based on the first 2 episodes, and the story progressed a lot in the second episode.

Seems that they lived in the same neighborhood?

Also, I was traveling earlier this year in the Pacific and I ran into the same guy on 4 different occasions within 4 days. Every time totally random place - we weren't even staying in the same hotel or anything. I even met him at the airport as I was leaving, and turns out he was flying out on the same plane as me too. :D

Some would call it fate ;)

Actually no. In the second episode it is revealed that he is now a famous writer writing under a pseudonym. She works for a publishing company - to my knowledge it's her father's company. In the second episode we get to know that the father's first love was a Japanese woman whom he had met when he was studying in Japan, but that they were forced to part because the dad's dad was against the relationship.

The FL and her family had lived in Japan 5 years when the FL was young - hence she is fluent in Japanese and knows the culture.

Unbeknownst to her, the FL's dad's publishing company was now representing the ML and she had to jump in as a translator - as the company translator was off sick. She didn't know that it would be the ML she was picking up (again he isn't using his real name as a writer).

I don't find it unbelievable that the dad's publishing company would be representing him, as it clearly is affiliated with Japan since the dad's college days.

Surprised he wasn't accidentally living in their basement.

And how often did he had to protect poor, weak noona in this scenario? Did you fall for him on first sight aswell?
All that was missing is him appearing out of nowhere next to her in the rain with an umbrella in slow motion to complete the circle of tropes. I am sure this will happen at one point in the drama too.

Fate, sure.

Ahh, so even more coincidences or 'fate'. Of course. Nah, I skip this one. Too much for me.

I watched and enjoyed this first episode! I thought the chemistry works too.  I loved her nosy coworkers at the restaurant. Do we know it's Jungo who wanted the split?  Maybe that's ep 2?  I think, whatever happens, Choi Hong isn't going to end up with Min Joon.  She almost has this indifference towards him.  Looking forward to the next episode.

What Comes After Love: Episodes 1-2

by Dramaddictally

Coupang Play’s new beautifully shot and acted drama What Comes After Love hit my screen and my heart this weekend, leaving me floating and ready for more. With a mix of Japanese and Korean dialogue, gorgeous leads that set off sparks, and a breakup that already burns, I have officially found my way out of my drama funk.

EPISODES 1-2

I love it. I’m terribly hooked and needing more. And if this drama wanted to make me feel the high of love followed by the power of withdrawal, right along with its characters, it has done a damn fine job.

Our story starts five years in the past. It’s 2019 and our heroine, CHOI HONG (Lee Se-young), has just moved to Tokyo. She’s fresh out of college, with a shiny new degree and no idea what to do with it. But going to Japan is less about running toward her future than it is about running away. There’s an emotional disconnect between her and her MOM (Lee Il-hwa) — and Hong doesn’t even tell her she’s leaving Korea.

In narration, Hong says that Tokyo was a bit of an accident. She didn’t choose it. She just has a friend there that’s willing to split the rent. And so, she goes. However, we later learn that she lived in Japan as a child and speaks perfect Japanese.

And that’s the first beautiful thing about this drama: it’s half in Japanese. The language and setting give us a distinct feel from most of the drama fare we’re used to (although, the aesthetic is giving me a little Ahn Pan-seok vibe for its low lighting and realistic shots). And our hero, when he appears, is also adorably out of the norm with a slight awkwardness that makes him irresistible.

When Hong arrives to Tokyo, she’s trying to get through a turnstile with her luggage, which ultimately scatters her belongings all over the ground. A man rushes over to help her pick up her things. She sees him — in slo-mo — and is struck (as am I). He looks shy and cute, with a dimple and underlying dorkiness. And this moment crushed my heart, unearthed a smile, and sold me on this pair at only three minutes in.

The man is our hero, AOKI JUNGO (Sakaguchi Kentaro), who speaks no Korean and is looking for a part-time job. He needs to pay his tuition as he studies Japanese lit, so he can become a writer, and say all the things he’s unable to speak out loud.

But Hong is looking for a job as well. And after the two part ways in the street that first day, they run into each other again while applying for the same server position at a ramen shop. Again, it’s instant chemistry and I can’t keep the lunatic smile off my face. They compete for the role, trying to humbly one-up each other, but in the end, Hong gets the job, after a customer criticizes her (impeccable) Japanese — and Jungo stands up for her.

All is not lost, though, because Jungo lands a spot at the hot dog truck just across the street from the ramen shop. This gives our pair lots of chances to stare and flirt and make eyes at each other. And finally, he asks her on a date.

They go out for drinks and get pretty tipsy (well, mostly Hong) and she opens up about not knowing what to do with her life. Will she stay in Japan? Or is she just passing through? She wants to go to grad school (she studies literature too) and she can’t bear to go back to her mom. Still, it’s all up in the air right now.

Already, it’s clear he has a crush on her. They’re adorably flirty without meaning to be. Everything about their attraction feels natural. And he just laughs and smiles at all her antics. The alcohol has made her pushier than usual, but he goes along with whatever she wants — like more coins for the claw machine, please!

Wow, it's been years since I read anything from dramabeans .. (I wonder whether it's the same site 🤣that I had in mind).  But I love the review since she shared the same feeling that I have.  Can't wait to know what really happened to them.  So far, all the comments that I read here and there (the one I read only) also shares the same thing.  I guess it has been a long time since I got hooked like this.  Till the next episode.

Watch: Lee Se Young And Sakaguchi Kentaro Display Sweet Chemistry On The Set Of “What Comes After Love”

Watch: Lee Se Young And Sakaguchi Kentaro Display Sweet Chemistry On The Set Of “What Comes After Love”

What Comes After Love” has unveiled a heart fluttering behind-the-scenes look!

“What Comes After Love” is a new romance drama based on the bestselling joint novel by Korean writer Gong Ji Young and Japanese writer Tsuji Hitonari. The novel tells the love story of a Korean woman named Hong (Lee Se Young) and a Japanese man named Jungo (Sakaguchi Kentaro) who meet and fall in love in Japan, then reunite in Korea five years after their breakup.

In the newly released video, Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro showcase undeniable off-screen chemistry. Before filming, they take turns drawing in a notebook, sharing laughs and conversations that later carry over into their on-screen connection.

The rehearsal process is filled with lighthearted moments. In one scene, Sakaguchi Kentaro practices writing in Korean, and Lee Se Young adorably praises him as he pretends to write in the air. Another scene, where the two share a meal, becomes a playful moment as Lee Se Young exaggerates her Japanese tone, with Sakaguchi Kentaro humorously following suit.

The camaraderie extends beyond the script as Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro serve as each other’s language tutors. While waiting for filming to begin, Lee Se Young quizzes Sakaguchi Kentaro on Korean phrases, offering gentle corrections.

Sakaguchi Kentaro also compliments Lee Se Young’s Japanese skills and helps her with her lines, creating a supportive, playful dynamic throughout the shoot.

The video highlights not just their professional rapport but also the genuine friendship that brings their characters to life in “What Comes After Love.”
