Actor Nam Tae-woo will appear in tvN's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'Parole Judge Lee Han-shin'. On the 7th, Nam Tae-woo's agency Rootbee Company announced that Nam Tae-woo will appear in 'Parole Judge Lee Han-shin', which will be aired for the first time on the 18th.

 

'Parole Judge Lee Han-shin' is a drama that depicts the activities of lawyer Lee Han-shin, who becomes a 'parole judge', the final judge of prisoners who prevents the release of people with bad conscience. Nam Tae-woo plays the role of Hwang Ji-soon, the office manager of Lee Han-shin's (Go Soo) law office. The newly released teaser starts by introducing Lee Han Shin in a dramatic moment, where he unfolds an umbrella to shield someone who appears to be exiting the courthouse while trying to avoid a flurry of reporters’ camera flashes. With a confident smile, Han Shin tells the person, “Please call me whenever you need me. I’m lawyer Lee Han Shin.” The video then depicts his quirky personality, showing him dancing and singing on stage in a sparkling costume before letting out a loud, carefree laugh.

“Parole Examiner Lee” follows lawyer Lee Han Shin (Go Soo), who becomes a parole officer responsible for making final decisions on inmate paroles. The teaser captures viewers’ interest by showcasing Lee Han Shin’s efforts to become a parole officer. In the video, Lee Han Shin tries to win the favor of Ji Dong Man (Song Young Chang), the chairman of the powerful Ojung Group, by volunteering as his private lawyer. After introducing himself as lawyer Lee Han Shin, he goes to great lengths to impress the chairman, including wearing flashy clothes to put on a performance and even stirring Chairman Ji Dong Man’s bibimbap for him.

In one scene, a voice asks, “How can you side with Chairman Ji Dong Man? Are you really trying to release someone who threatens others’ lives?” The teaser then shows flashbacks of Lee Han Shin’s time as a prison guard, where he helplessly watched someone being dragged away. Ji Dong Man’s son Ji Myung Seob (Lee Hak Joo) appears, arrogantly shaking a parole certificate as he taunts Lee Han Shin, saying, “Didn’t I tell you? You won’t be able to stop it.” This hints at a strained relationship with the Ojung Group that dates back to Lee Han Shin’s days as a prison guard.

Returning to the present, Lee Han Shin asks Chairman Ji, “Please make me a parole officer.” Unaware of his true motives, Chairman Ji casually asks, “Who is this prisoner you’re so eager to keep behind bars?” Building anticipation for an intense showdown between Lee Han Shin and the father-son duo, Ji Dong Man and Ji Myung Seob, of Ojung Group.

Kwon Yu Ri opens up on what it took to transform into an ace violent crimes unit detective in Parole Examiner Lee.

At the press conference on November 11 for the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama Parole Examiner Lee, Kwon Yu Ri shared, "When I first received the script, there was a description of her as an 'ace detective with outstanding investigative skills,'" and added, "Since she's the ace of the metropolitan investigation team, I had to start with transformation on the outside. I began learning action."

 

 

"I felt the limits of my physical strength, so I decided to 'bulk up.' Since filming was in winter, I increased my weight to gain adequate fat and muscle," she said, adding, "To implement justice, I had to have a flexible mindset, physical strength, and a suitable physique. I trained hard."

Parole Examiner Lee depicts the thrilling battles of lawyer Lee Han Sin, who becomes a parole officer and goes up against evil people. 

Kwon Yu Ri plays Detective Ahn Seo Yun, while Lee Hak Joo takes on the role of Ji Myeong Seop, a ruthless second-generation chaebol. 

For Go Soo, this K-drama marks his return to TV after two years, following Missing: The Other Side Season 2. "When I buy something, I choose based on its appearance. I was drawn to the name Lee Han Shin when I saw the title. When I read the script, I thought, 'Huh? They're doing it this way?' The way the plot developed was fresh," he explained. "Though I felt a lot of pressure, I'm grateful for the opportunity." 

"Lee Han Shin is not a hero. He's just a [regular] human and is imperfect. Please watch how he fights against a huge Goliath. I think this is the only drama that deals with the topic of parole. After reading the script, I looked up what exactly a parole officer does. The drama doesn't include much jargon or specific terms. Parole might not seem like a topic that concerns us, but it's not an outlying issue. It's a story that could happen anywhere, and we've tried to tell it in a fun way."

“Parole Examiner Lee” tells the story of lawyer Lee Han Shin (Go Soo), who becomes a parole officer responsible for making final decisions on inmate paroles.

 

Lee Han Shin is determined to prevent inmates who show little remorse for their crimes from obtaining parole through money, connections, or deceitful tactics.

 

Scriptwriter Park Chi Hyung described the series as “a drama that talks about justice and humanity with parole as its main subject.” He explained, “After reading an article criticizing the parole release of felons likely to reoffend, I looked into the parole system. I thought it would be interesting to tell the story of a parole officer who can distinguish between inmates eligible for parole and those who shouldn’t be released early.”

 

 

To prepare for the drama, Park Chi Hyung conducted thorough research, meeting with people with firsthand experience in the system. “Before writing the script, I spoke with former parole officers, correctional officers, and lawyers who have handled parole cases to hear their stories and gather information,” he said, emphasizing the effort he put into preparing the project.

 

 

Thanks to these efforts, the script for “Parole Examiner Lee” won the grand prize at the first KT Studio Genie Contest and was adapted into a drama. Park Chi Hyung said, “I was happy that the judges recognized the potential in the story I found interesting.” He added, “The unique, fresh, and timely theme of a ‘parole officer’ seemed to attract interest.”

“Parole Examiner Lee” tells the story of lawyer Lee Han Shin (Go Soo), who becomes a parole officer responsible for making final decisions on inmate paroles. Lee Han Shin is determined to prevent inmates who show little remorse for their crimes from obtaining parole through money, connections, or deceitful tactics.

Explaining why he chose the project, Go Soo said, “The title ‘Parole Examiner Lee’ immediately caught my interest.”

“The focus on parole was intriguing, and I also liked the character’s name, Lee Han Shin,” said the actor. “I had high expectations because the project won the grand prize in the KT Studio Genie series contest, and I was curious to see how it would be adapted into a drama. That’s why I was eager to take on the role of Lee Han Shin.”

 

 

Lee Han Shin, a former prison guard turned lawyer, is defined by his strength and determination to seek justice. Go Soo noted, “His profession alone shows he’s a character driven by a strong desire to uphold justice.” He added, “He’s tough and persistent when solving problems, but he also collaborates and works well with others. He’s a character with many different sides.”

Reasons to watch: While crime-action will never be my first genre pick of choice, some of my favorite K-drama rides have been stories of ragtag teams chucked together to take down baddies (Mad Dog, Lookout, Good Job). Go Soo stars here as our eponymous parole examiner, and he’s joined by a team of Kwon Yuri and Baek Ji-won, here as detective and loan shark, respectively. Lee Hak-joo is our bad boy chaebol, and that alone is sure to be fun to watch. Our PD previously brought us Curtain Call and River Where the Moon Rises, which is either a good or bad sign. We’ll find out on Monday.

 

TL;DR: K-dramas know how to do ragtag anti-crime teams well, so let’s hope this is another goodie

In the first episode, Lee Han Shin worked as a personal attorney for Ojung Group’s Ji Dong Man (Song Young Chang) and went to great lengths to become a parole examiner. By the end of the episode, it was revealed that his determination stems from a singular mission: to prevent Ji Dong Man’s parole.

In the newly released stills, viewers get a glimpse of Lee Han Shin’s first day as an official parole examiner. Now one of the five examiners, Lee Han Shin appears to pour all his passion and pent-up frustration into the review process.

Particularly striking is the tense confrontation between Lee Han Shin and Ji Dong Man, who now faces parole review. Unlike his previous obsequious behavior as Ji Dong Man’s subordinate, Lee Han Shin exudes a starkly different energy, creating an atmosphere of palpable tension.
