*** I am not a period drama person but, for me the regal hotness for His Majesty or His Royal Highness are my Oppas below - it’s a no brainer and they’re all HOT in their own way. Whewww…. This is an amazing array of hotties with major power. Taking on these regal roles is not the easiest thing to do—they need to make their characters look dignified and worthy of respect.  :heart2:

One of the wonderful experiences when watching Korean dramas is the original soundtrack especially from historical dramas. I love the OST from “Moon Lovers Scarlete”. You want a deeply romantic track? Need something a little more lighthearted? The legendary soundtrack truly has something for everyone. Lee Min Ho’s “The King: Eternal Monarch” has another superb soundtrack. The drama’s soundtrack is both atmospheric and elegant.  K-OSTs give another type of charm, which soothes the heart of viewers. I noticed that K-dramas & J-dramas focus on emotions, so those OSTs gave impact over emotions. Unlike American & British dramas, they focus on the story & making, and emotion isn't a necessary element, so OSTs aren't used. (just my opinion)   :hypehype:

Now, here are my swoonworthy  Kings and Princes :

Spoiler

Kim Soo Hyun in The Moon Embraces the Sun – ( for the sageuk drama) His acting here literally made me speechless. He basically carried it towards 40% by himself. He’s just awesome to watch playing as king. I’ve watched this drama many times because of him.

Lee Min Ho in The King: Eternal Monarch – (as the modern day ruler) He’s the neatest King amongst all. He’s the one with the most commanding visual. I love the series. Lee Min Ho lights up the screen; he is always a joy to watch. As the king, he came across as very regal and balanced the roles of dignitary, protector, and boyfriend nicely. He handles a horse and a sword nicely, too. Right to the very end, “TKEM” delivers. Just like The Moon Embraces the Sun, I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen this drama because of him.

Lee Jun Ki in Moon Lovers Scarlete – He was a gem in this drama that’s why, I fall in love with Wang So. He’s sexy. To this day in my book, that character still holds “the best interpreted” K-drama character of all time. He suits historical clothes.

Kang Ha Neul in Moon Lovers as Prince – He’s gentle and warm-hearted.

Park Bogum in Love in the Moonlight – He suited sageuk clothes like a gloves, he just look like he’s made to wear it. He’s handsome. His features in sageuk match so well. His eyes say it all. As I’ve said, I don’t really dig historical genres but, he needs to do another sageuk. I will definitely watch him. He’s just WOW!  I love his devilish persona in the drama. His pure and innocent acting transcend the beauty & elegance of the drama. Hands down……….

Jung Il Woo in Cinderella and the Four Knights – He has the most winsome smile.

Park Hyung Sik in Our Blooming Youth and Hwarang - The biggest drawback to “OBY” is the soundtrack. It hasn’t caught my attention and doesn’t really add too much to the story either.

Ju Ji Hun in Kingdom – He has a few of kingly roles but, he will always be in this running. He looks awesome in hanbok, absolutely swoon worthy!

Ji Chang Wook in Empress Ki – (the Emperor of Yuan)  This was the first drama I’ve discovered Ji Chang Wook. I thought all along he’s an Idol and one of the boy groups until googled it – hahaha - I watched the drama for Joo Jin Mo. I like short EP dramas so for this, clocking in at 51 episodes, I was always hesitant to start it. That long? I mean, I could watch three dramas in that time span!  But, when I saw Ji Chang Wook here, that’s really what gave me the final push to watch it. I love that he wears his hair down. I love the long, pretty hair! Emperor Ta Hwan was so much fun! I got quite a kick out of his character.  He was humorous. Ji Chang Wook was fabulous at portraying both the humorous and regal sides to this character.  Thanks to his performance that Ta Hwan was so likable despite having so many flaws. (51) EPs truly did fly by because of him.

Im Siwan in The King in Love – Watching this drama has been quite a ride. There was a feeling of fun and dissatisfaction at the same time. But along with this frustration, there was also a lot to love about this drama because of Im Siwan. He had a complex character, but he played the prince’s wide range of emotions with compelling expertise. The plot is unexceptional, but for me, his character saves the drama from being forgettable.

Ah, you've got a point there—Korean drama OSTs are a whole vibe. Seriously, they know how to set the mood whether it's a tear-jerker moment or a cute interaction between the leads. "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" has an OST that I still listen to; it's just that good.

And don't even get me started on "The King: Eternal Monarch." That OST is art, pure and simple. I think you hit the nail on the head about K-OSTs focusing on emotional depth. It's like they are another character in the story, adding layers that you didn't know you needed.

I've watched my fair share of Western dramas too, and you're right; the OSTs don't always play as big a role. It's more about the story and dialogue, which isn't a bad thing, but those K-OSTs just hit differently, you know?

Anyways, who's your top "regal hottie"? For me, it's gotta be Lee Min Ho, no contest. Dude's got charisma that could make a stone swoon.

I am late to the party as always. Thnak you so much @confusedheart chingu for the tag!

Ha ha ha.. Glad that Lee Min and Shin Sung Rok exist. :joy: Otherwise I won't have any option to vote for. I haven't watched any of the dramas in the list except for The King: Eternal Monarch and The last Empress. I am not much of a historical drama person! :sweatingbullets:

I secretly love Shin Sung Rok since his Thank You days. In fact, I was hoping to see him turn over a new leaf in The Last Empress. You are not alone, I am not into historicals either but I do end up watching a few if it has a cute guy in it. :fullofhearts:

The vid list posted by @rocat is a good start on handsome geges in costume dramas. :) I agree on #1, actually most of those who made it in the video.

I'd also add Lin Gengxin, Zhao Yuting, Zhang Rouyun, Gao Wei Guang, Chen Zhe Yuan, Liu Haoran, Deng Wei, and Tan Jian Ci.

@confusedheart  I do agree with you about OST of "It's OK, That's Love" - I love it, too especially the track, which EXO Chen sang, titled It's Alright, This Is Love. This is the audio -   :heart2:   Yes, I love OSTs from these (2) dramas I mentioned.

I also agree with you about "Bossam" - The drama has its fair share of flaws, but I thought the gentle, heartfelt romance between our OTP made it worthwhile.  :hypehype:

#1 on the list, Xiao Zhan :hooray2:

spacer.png

Plays characters with depth well.

Good with the conflicted sort.

but…it’s hard to stop there cos the period dramas some of them are resplendent in sets and costumes, adding to the swoon. Clothes maketh the man, you know. Kekeke.

spacer.png

Zhang Ling He, particularly eye-catching in Xianxia (Gods/Deities who battle) dramas.

spacer.png

Dylan Wang in same genre but as the misunderstood bad boy. Does that wonderfully.

spacer.png

Deng Wei, also same genre and can do either super kind or villain with a good heart types (not in list of 26 above)

I am a fan of OSTs and the soundracks for sageuks are all very beautiful.

I mention a few that I remember right now.

@larus  I love this OST from Bichunmoo, too. Kim Yuna also has a version of this song, which is just as good. Park Ji Yoon was in the cast. I've watched this drama because of Joo Jin Mo.   :kitty:

I also like Joo Jin Mo but I did not watch the drama. I found out recently that Kim So yeon refused the female lead role in Bichunmoo (2008) because she wanted to film in Korea after many years away (the drama was filmed in China?) and the role came to Park Ji Yoon. Kim so yeon had an oportunity to work with Joo Jin Mo in the movie Gabi after Lee Da Hae dropped the filming. How things works! :D
