larus
No Gain No Love: Episodes 5-6 by Unit Our tropey adventure continues as our contract wedding pivots into an office romance. A birth secret lurks around the horizon, and our secondary romance arc continues to inch towards the enemies to lovers playground. EPISODES 5-6 We open with last week’s mystery visit to Ji-wook. The visitor, MANAGER JANG (Yoon Seo-hyun), threatened to reveal Ji-wook’s existence to his mom’s family in Canada if he didn’t come to work at Ggulbi Education. To keep the promise he made to his grandmother not to interfere with his mom’s life, Ji-wook agreed, and that’s how he ended up as a new recruit in his wife’s workplace. Hae-young is not exactly pleased with the situation, and Ji-wook can’t tell her the full gist of why he has to work at Ggulbi or why he was unreachable for the past three months — hint: looking after her mom in the nursing home. But since Ji-wook’s new haircut prevents her colleagues from recognizing him, the contractual couple agree to keep their husband and wife status a secret at work. B-but I miss his old hair! Ji-wook’s presence in the head office is a ticking time bomb for Hae-young, and she plots to lower his evaluation at a promotional/training event so that he’ll be sent to a branch office. But Ji-wook’s good looks and manners triumph over Hae-young’s bad plans, and he wins over Ggulbi Education staff and customers alike — by distributing Kopiko and drowning them in the sea of his handsomeness. Heh. During the event, Hae-young strikes up a conversation with an abused kid, but the abusive father is having none of it. The father attacks Hae-young, Ji-wook charges at him in a bid to defend his wife, and the trio end up at the police station. Oops! Conversation about the abused kid leads Hae-young to mention that her mom used to run a foster home, but Ji-wook keeps it a secret that he already knows this because he was once under Mom’s care. I can’t wait for Hae-young to discover this juicy detail about Ji-wook. Hae-young is surprised when Ggulbi’s lawyer shows up at the police station to represent them, and the lawyer fibs that she must be as vital to the company as a board member. Hae-young also convinces the lawyer to take up the child abuse case. But via a phone conversation between the lawyer and some higher up at Ggulbi, we see that Hae-young’s importance to the company had nothing to do with why the lawyer showed up. Hmmm. If the lawyer didn’t come because of Hae-young, then it must have been because of Ji-wook. This dude got a job, a new apartment, a car, and a black card in less than two days! What I wouldn’t give to be a K-drama male lead right now. This sorta windfall mostly happens in fiction, but even our fictional man has to question why he’s the recipient of such manifold blessings. Could it be that Manager Jang is his f-f… Ji-wook can’t bring himself to complete the word, but Manager Jang shuts down the paternity suspicion with a deadpan, “I am infertile.” Dead. This entire exchange is hands-down my most hilarious scene of the week! Ji-wook ends up assigned to Hae-young’s team, and she reiterates the importance of keeping their marital status a secret. After working so hard to climb the corporate ladder, she’d rather be known as a team leader, not as someone’s wife. The other new recruit overhears bits of the conversation where Hae-young tells Ji-wook that she’ll look incompetent if he makes mistakes. But while she referred to incompetence as a wife if Ji-wook, for instance, dresses shabbily to work or something, the recruit assumes she meant incompetence as a boss if the rookie makes a mistake. So he “helps” Ji-wook report their team leader for workplace harassment. Oh dear! Hae-young is summoned to a disciplinary panel, and when Ji-wook learns about this, he rushes to the panel to clear the air — by revealing that he is Hae-young’s husband! Cue: members of the panel packing their surprised jaws from off the floor, and Hae-young’s farewell to her peaceful office life. Suddenly, everyone at work is interested in Mr. and Mrs. Hae-young’s plans to positively contribute to the country’s birth rate, and worried about Mrs. Team Leader’s objectiveness with her husband on her team. But Ji-wook assures Hae-young that everything will be fine as long as he’s transferred to another team, and he’ll make sure she doesn’t suffer any losses at work because of him. How sweet. more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/09/no-gain-no-love-episodes-5-6/

larus
Shin Min Ah And Kim Young Dae Get Caught In Awkward Tension In "No Gain No Love" Drama Preview Sep 17, 2024 by M Lim Shin Min Ah and Kim Young Dae’s relationship takes an awkward turn in tonight’s episode of tvN’s “No Gain No Love”! “No Gain No Love” is a romantic comedy that tells the story of Son Hae Young (Shin Min Ah), a woman who fakes a marriage to avoid missing out on a promotion at work. Kim Young Dae stars as Kim Ji Wook, the man who agrees to become her fake husband. Spoilers Previously on “No Gain No Love,” to avoid suspicion from Hae Young’s ex-boyfriend Woo Jae (Go Wook) and to convince their colleagues they’re a real couple, Hae Young and Ji Wook fully entered a full-blown newlywed couple mode in front of their co-workers. Following this, Ji Wook even moved into a room on Haeyoung’s rooftop, and the two unexpectedly began living together. After a housewarming party, Hae Young acknowledged her feelings for Ji Wook and eventually initiated a kiss. As anticipation builds around how this kiss will serve as a turning point, newly released stills from tonight’s episode tease an awkward shift in their dynamic. Ji Wook is joining Hae Young, Nam Ja Yeon (Han Ji Hyun), and Cha Hee Sung (Joo Min Kyung) for a meal at Hae Young’s house, but there’s clear tension between the two. While Hae Young’s eyes remain fixed solely on Ji Wook during their meal, Ji Wook tries hard to avoid her intense stare, though not without difficulty. Meanwhile, Ja Yeon and Hee Sung quickly pick up on the odd atmosphere between the pair. larus
Watch: Shin Min Ah And Kim Young Dae Deliver A Mix Of Comedy And Romance In New "No Gain No Love" Making-Of Video Drama Sep 19, 2024 by J Lee tvN’s “No Gain No Love” has unveiled a new making-of video! Penned by writer Kim Hye Young of “Her Private Life,” “No Gain No Love” is a rom-com drama that tells the story of Son Hae Young (Shin Min Ah), a woman who fakes her marriage because she doesn’t want to take any loss and Kim Ji Wook (Kim Young Dae), a man who becomes her fake husband because he doesn’t want to cause any harm. Spoilers The new video starts with Bok Gyu Hyun (Lee Sang Yi) giving a piggyback ride to Kim Ji Wook, who is completely drunk. During the filming of this scene, Kim Young Dae throws out a series of hilarious ad-libs as Lee Sang Yi struggles to walk. Kim Young Dae creatively exclaims, “It’s sinking, it’s sinking!” while Shin Min Ah clings onto them, making it even harder to carry the actors. The entire cast looks exhausted by the end of the shoot, signifying just how dedicated they are to vividly portraying the scene. Another highlight from the video features a romantic kiss between Son Hae Young and Kim Ji Wook. When Ji Wook realizes that she kissed him to hide her secret from her ex-boyfriend Ahn Woo Jae (Go Wook) and that she refers to the act as “pecking on the lip” instead of a “kiss,” he becomes visibly irritated and then leans in to kiss her. The video captures the heart-fluttering atmosphere on set, making viewers’ hearts race even more. https://www.soompi.com/article/1689532wpp/watch-shin-min-ah-and-kim-young-dae-deliver-a-mix-of-comedy-and-romance-in-new-no-gain-no-love-making-of-video
larus
No Gain No Love: Episodes 7-8 by Unit Our show goes full throttle as it advances into its second half. The chaos is chaos-ing, the tropes are trope-ing, the romance is romance-ing, and the stakes are rising. It’s really ROM-COM at its finest this week, and boy am I having a blast! EPISODES 7-8 We resume with Hae-young, Ji-wook, and Woo-jae being dumped in a hotel after getting royally wasted the previous night. Cue: a freak out session when they wake up in bed together. Lol. Afterwards, Yi-lin comes to get her husband and share the good news: Woo-jae will be coming onboard Hae-young’s team and Ji-wook will be assigned to work under him. Awesome! What could go wrong with the trio on the same team? Aside from, you know, the fact that Woo-jae knows how Hae-young behaves when she’s in love, and in close quarters, he’s bound to notice that her marriage is fake. To worsen matters, HR discovers that some employees have been misusing company benefits, and they launch an investigation into all the employees. Welp! Our fake couple activates full time honeymoon mode to shake off suspicion, but Ji-wook is a natural at skinship and sweet talking and Hae-young.exe begins to malfunction. Still, she suggests that he moves in with her to properly sell their marriage, and thus their cohabitation era begins. Yasss! Welcome to the penthouse rooftop apartment of Hae-young’s house, Ji-wook. Make yourself at home. Oh, wait! This was once your home. Lol. My guess is that Hae-young was off in college when high-school Ji-wook — sporting yet another hairstyle! — lived here, and that’s why she doesn’t know that he’s one of Mom’s foster kids. Anyway, Ji-wook is welcomed back home for a reunion with their foster cat — and a meet and greet with Hae-young’s box of sex toys that scandalizes him into declaring that his body is his own, and he won’t do anything his mind goes against. Okay, virgin. Pfft. To further cement the realness of their marriage, Hae-young throws a housewarming party and invites Ha-joon. CEO Gyu-hyun is not invited, so he tries — and fails — to snag an invitation from his volunteering bestie, Ji-wook a.k.a Lucifer. Gyu-hyun leads with the “what are we?” angle, and Ji-wook almost spills that they’re half-brothers until Gyu-hyun clarifies that he meant that they’re volunteering brother-like friends. “Call me hyung.” Lol. If only he knew. At the party, Hae-young learns that Ji-wook was super popular among the ladies during the new recruits’ training. This makes her apologize to him because their fake relationship makes him unable to date. “Do you want me to have flings and go on dates?” Ji-wook asks, and Hae-young replies in the affirmative. But her body language betrays her true feelings. “I can do that now if that’s what you want,” Ji-wook continues, as he inches closer to her. The tension rises and Hae-young closes her eyes as he leans in to… pick up the keys behind her. *Exhales* This guy knows what he is doing to Hae-young. To me. To all of us! Ji-wook heads up to his apartment, but before we can say kimchi, Hae-young appears on the rooftop to kiss him! But after spending 24 hours alternating between kicking my feet and scratching my head at the dead-fishness of the kiss, Episode 8 begins and I see that Hae-young kissed Ji-wook because Woo-jae was watching them from downstairs. Ugh! That dude is a roach who just won’t die. Ji-wook is equally upset that his first ever kiss was a dead-fish Woo-jae repellant, so he shows Hae-young what a real kiss should look like. Omona! This man is smoother than butter. Ji-wook drops multiple confessions and flirts with reckless abandon throughout this episodes until Hae-young surrenders. She asks if he can wait until she’s able to shake off the pressures of work before making things official, and he agrees. “I’ll wait for you so patiently, you won’t even realize that I’m waiting.” Wow! Hae-young and Ji-wook clearly did not get the K-drama contract couple memo. Because what do you mean they communicated directly and didn’t spend 2-3 weeks denying the feelings they clearly have for each other? I love it here in No Gain No Love land! Moving on to our secondary romance, Ja-yeon drops by the orphanage she sent Gyu-hyun to volunteer at, and she ducks out of sight when she sees him with Ha-joon. Gyu-hyun — who already knows that Ja-yeon and Ha-joon are friends, and that Ja-yeon’s male lead is named Ha-joon because it’s the name of someone she likes — spots Ja-yeon hiding and clocks that she’d like to keep her erotic writer identity a secret. So he flings his oblivious secretary into the backseat and drives away before Ha-joon notices Ja-yeon’s presence. Ja-yeon realizes that Gyu-hyun is Ggulbi Education’s CEO a.k.a Hae-young’s boss, so she withdraws the lawsuit, and pleads with him not to take it out on Hae-young. Gyu-hyun assures Ja-yeon that he will do no such thing, and he apologizes for hiding his identity. But as they’re about to part ways, Ja-yeon sights her abusive father from afar and she grabs Gyu-hyun and runs away. Gyu-hyun goes along with it, no questions asked — he sits with her as she cries, and sings to comfort her. Ja-yeon thanks him for lifting her spirits and for keeping her secret from Ha-joon, and at this point, they have started seeing each other in a different light. ~This could be the start of something new~ Still, Ja-yeon insists that they shouldn’t see each other anymore. But Gyu-hyun is completely smitten, and he’d do anything to see her again. Anything, including green-lighting Hae-young’s suggestion to launch Ggulbi’s new educational service at an orphanage. But Mr. Finished Man’s interest in the idea is not all about his romance with Ja-yeon. There’s also his bromance with Ji-wook, and he knows the orphanage outreach will make his bro happy. Awww. He’s so sweet. Ja-yeon learns that Gyu-hyun has been re-rating and leaving new comments on her novel, and she’s impressed. But she returns to square one when Ha-joon flippantly confesses that he took over writing hate comments for his boss in return for getting an approval on his transfer request. Ah! Not the muse hating on his inspired work. To make matters worse, a comment on the episode Ha-joon took over from is the very comment that made Ja-yeon file the lawsuit. *Facepalm* Can this plot just die already? Seriously, Show, you wrapped up the reveal — and Hae-young’s acceptance — of Hee-sung and her boyfriend’s polyamorous relationship pretty quickly, so I believe you can conclude this hate comments arc just as fast. The week ends with Madam Fangirl, Gyu-hyun and Hae-young finding out that Ji-wook is Chairman Bok’s secret son. *Stirs the thickened plot* Madam Fangirl is pretty ruthless when it comes to her son — she threatened to pull out investment in Ja-yeon’s audio drama while the lawsuit with Gyu-hyun was ongoing — and I cannot imagine what she’ll do now that a competitor for her son’s inheritance has shown up. Chairman Bok sucks for intentionally bringing in Ji-wook to serve as a rival for Gyu-hyun, and it’s worse that he doesn’t mind dragging Hae-young into the succession battle if it helps his unserious sons “come to their senses.” He’s so messy, but it’s more drama for me, so bring it on. Speaking of drama, Woo-jae has not only found out that Hae-young’s marriage is fake, he also asks to get back together. It’s his shamelessness for me, really. I thought he married Yi-lin to advance his career, but he has now tasted the unpleasantness that comes with his wife making decisions about his career without discussing it with him first. Tsk. Yi-lin works with HR, she’s close with Madam Fangirl, and she already suspects that there’s something between Woo-jae and Hae-young. Oh dear! What could possibly go wrong for our heroine who’s right in the middle of this messy venn diagram? more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/09/no-gain-no-love-episodes-7-8/

larus
No Gain No Love: Episodes 9-10 by Unit Our penultimate week comes with secrets, betrayals, big reveals, and drama. But no worries, our show continues to be amazeballs with tons of fun sandwiched between generous helpings of romance. EPISODES 9-10 Picking up from last week’s cliff, Hae-young and Ji-wook are about to kiss when Gyu-hyun barges in demanding to know if Ji-wook is the product of his father’s affair. It’s a first, seeing Gyu-hyun this angry, and I don’t think the birth secret upsets him as much as the betrayal from Ji-wook knowing about it and keeping it from him. It doesn’t matter that Ji-wook only found out recently. Gyu-hyun wants him — and Hae-young! — to leave Ggulbi. Ji-wook is worried that Hae-young will suffer because of him, but she reassures him that she’s on his side — and tells him to take over the company and overthrow Gyu-hyun. Pfft. But before they can carry out their coup, our labor union leader and her husband are demoted and suspended respectively. Cue: Ji-wook announcing to Gyu-hyun that he’s divorced (so that Hae-young won’t suffer alongside), and the staff in the lobby conjuring a BL fantasy starring the brothers. LMAO! Gyu-hyun doesn’t buy the divorce, and he threatens Ji-wook to either permanently leave the country — per Madam Fangirl’s wishes — or drag everyone he cares about into his mess. Tsk. This Bok family and their threats. Why must everyone suffer because of the chairman’s affair? Honestly, cutting off his hair isn’t enough. Chairman Bok needs to strip down to his white inner-wear and bow on all fours for forgiveness — Joseon style. Even then, it’s still not enough. Moving on, Gyu-hyun confesses his feelings to Ja-yeon. And while Ms. Writer is amazed that the enemies-to-lovers trope happens in real life, she tells him there can never be a happy ending for her. “Our story ends here,” she says, and this is why she isn’t the writer of this drama. Gyu-hyun is in the middle of asking her to give him a chance when Ha-joon walks in on them, and the secret is out. Oops! Ha-joon goes on to apologize to Ja-yeon for his hate comments and swears he will never do that to any other writer. He also thanks her for naming her male lead after him, and with this, we finally wrap up the hate comments arc. I hope. A lightweight Gyu-hyun soon finds himself in front of Ja-yeon’s house drunk on some “please excuse me while I hug you” whiskey, and Hae-young and Ji-wook happen upon the scene. Cue: 1) Hae-young and Ji-wook hurriedly prying Gyu-hyun off Ja-yeon under the assumption that he’s an assailant; 2) their realization that he is Ja-yeon’s hater — who now likes her; 3) Hae-young’s attempt to hit him with a “how dare you like her?” umbrella; 4) Ja-yeon admitting the feeling is mutual; 5) Ji-wook accidentally getting hit instead. Pfft. So dramatic! Anyway, Gyu-hyun ends up sleeping over in Ji-wook’s room — and DNA doesn’t lie because they have the exact same sleeping habits! Our lead quartet sit together for an hilariously awkward breakfast the next morning, and Gyu-hyun’s innocent small talk spirals into truth bombs: Ja-yeon plans to move out of the house, and Ji-wook plans to leave the country. Oops! In a makjang, Hae-young’s reaction to this news would have been to drool her orange juice back into her cup. But since we’re in a rom-COM, she kicks the Penthouse twins Ji-wook and Ja-yeon out of the house — to conclude their breakfast at Subway. Lol. And as for the parrot Gyu-hyun, she tells him to stay away from Ja-yeon — but we soon learn that this is not just because of his hate comments. It turns out that ten years ago, Ja-yeon’s abusive father murdered Hae-young’s dad. Heol! Ja-yeon had to move to another foster home to hide from her sperm donor — before he ended up murdering Dad, and this explains why she wants to move out again now that he’s out on parole. Her ill-fated relationship with that murderer also explains why she thinks she’ll never have a happy ending. *Sniff* Hae-young has always — and will continue to — stick by Ja-yeon regardless of the incident, but she’s not confident that Gyu-hyun will do the same if he learns about Ja-yeon’s past. Hence, her warning for him to stay away. Fair enough. Manager Jang calls Ji-wook out for some random horse riding/advising session — and essentially calls Ji-wook’s travel plans “an idiotic waste of time.” Lol. Jang tells Ji-wook not to allow other people dictate the course of his life, and that he’ll be happier following his heart rather than leaving because he doesn’t want to ruin his mom’s life or because he wants to “protect” Hae-young. Take that, noble idiocy! Manager Jang is a much better fatherly figure than the other fathers on this show — minus Hae-young’s dad, of course. Hae-young pretends to be okay with Ji-wook’s impending departure — after all, she’s used to watching her foster siblings leave — but Ji-wook is more than a little disappointed that she also sees him as a temporary person in her life. For a minute there, I thought they’d drop the ball on communication after doing so well all this time, but the drama said not today! Waiter, I’ll have my communication steeped in Hae-young’s angsty outburst, Ji-wook’s “I love you,” their ferocious kisses and the resulting bed scene. Please and thank you. Gaahhh! I love this show a little too much. Our secondary romance gives the first a run for its money when Ja-yeon asks to do some research at Ggulbi, and Gyu-hyun personally gives her a tour of the building. My man is so invested in the “research” to the point of acting out one of the scenes in her novel unprovoked, and Ms. Writer joins in the fun. Lol. I see we are setting the stage for their spin-off. Gyu-hyun and Ja-yeon rewrite the scene to include a kiss — kyaaa!! — and if I manifest hard enough, maybe October 3rd will arrive sooner. Sadly, Gyu-hyun and Ja-yeon’s cute research date is cut short when they have to hide from Woo-jae and Yi-lin — who are clearly in this scene for drama’s sake. Because why else would two people who live in the same house choose to loudly confront each other in the office? At night! On a weekend! Tsk. Woo-jae brings up Hae-young’s dad’s murder, and Yi-lin mentions Ji-wook’s birth secret and its implication on Hae-young’s job. No thanks to the busybody couple, Ja-yeon snaps out of her fantasy and reiterates that a relationship with Gyu-hyun is impossible.
