Guest missmobius Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Okay, I've listened to both. (Meaning Korean rap and American rap.) I'll say what a friend of mine said - I have a lot more respect for Korean rappers (haven't heard any Japanese or any other kind of Asian rap... someone clue me in?) because there's so many more syllables to pronounce. Also, the MVs seem a lot more fun.
Guest AtomicNorthernLights Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 It ain't about style It ain't about rhymes It ain't about skills And it ain't about lines It's all about life, maybe you'll see it in time And then stop hatin on because I'm speakin my mind Understand now?
Guest DKYang Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Now stop discussing about which is better and go back to topic. The topic starter edited the post and wrote what he/she meant. I think American hiphop will stay like American hiphop and Asian(basing off of Korean hiphop) will just stay the same. Because both of there unique styles, beats, and etc. I never thought of Korean rap to be like American rap because the culture is totally different. Some rappers would like to become like American rappers and some don't. To sum it up, I think Asian rap/hiphop won't become like American rap/hiphop even though there are artists out there that would like that to happen. Now, Mongolia Chop Squad and Jin are different. MCS has some funny stuff.
Guest badmammajamma Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 asian rap is an imitation of american rap. simple.
Guest Paradox Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 asian rap is an imitation of american rap. simple. That's kind of irrelevant, don't you think? Almost ALL popular music is an imitation of American music. I can't stand when people say that certain artists in other countries are trying to imitate American music...it all started here, the only way it'd be completely different is if they invented a whole new genre.
Guest stellabella Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 To me it's not about the lifestyle, all that crap that some of you insist makes hip hop, hip hop. Personally, I like Korean mainstream AND underground because the music sounds good. American hip hop is just horrible (I'm referring to the NEW stuff, not the old). The lyrics are crap, the beats are crap, with the exception of a FEW (and I mean few) artists. To me Korean hip hop is better because it sounds better. Again, I'm not referring to lifestyle or origin, I'm talking straight up MUSIC. After all, that's what it SHOULD come down to right? Ya'll make too big of a deal about whether a person is a good rap/hip hop artist based on their background. To me that is bullsheit. Korean mainstream IMO is better than American mainstream. I will admit that some of the mainstream korean artists DO stoop down to your average American content, but underground it totally different. It would be hard for people like LucasBunny or Luna (not attacking here, i just need examples) to understand that because you don't know what they are rapping about. edit: don't sit there and tell me that the lyrical content in mainstream rap is "life". I'm sure rappers can find something more meaningful to rap about than b*tches and hoes, sex and money, drugs and violence. PLEASE. The only thing that can sell in America is sex. Try asking someone in Korea if that's true for their country. and yeah, there really is no point in comparing the two. As someone stated earlier, if you're going to bash about Korean's ripping off American music, do so somewhere else where people can stoop down to your intelligence, cuz it ain't gonna fly here. Music started here in America, how are people supposed to claim their originality when it's already been done?
Guest BendyStraw Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 But of course on soompi people are going to be biased and vote for asian rap. But of course you're an african american, you're going to be biased and vote for american rap. Hmm... quick to judge? Stella Starr, I applaud you. Well said, good job!
Guest Paradox Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 edit: don't sit there and tell me that the lyrical content in mainstream rap is "life". They talked about violence, prejudice, and the world in an educated manner. It American rap was still that way, It'd probably be more enjoyable.
Guest Sassy Aux Fruits. Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 French Rap all the way =P Asian rap is just.. weird. The way they sing is weird, and I don't like it at all. And it's just like they're blablating. American rap is better. If you take off all the ghetto, sexy mama, money and whatever. I remember that I used to looove a song by NAS because it was actually what rap should be about : a message of hope and love. "I know I can be what I wanna be, if I work hard at it, I'll be where I wanna be." And he talk to boys and girls, preventing them from being "ghetto mini cooper". That's why I like rap. But yeah anyway, american rap all the way.
Guest AntKun Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I hate rap altogether. But when I think of rap, I kinda think of the guys with hoodies and big 'Bling'.
Guest aaandy Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 ^^ that's all mainstream though. It's true pretty much everything mainstream is recycled and washed up. If you want to here some rap that is more on an intellectual level I'd recommend some Blackalicious (Gift of Gab), Sage Francis, Atmosphere, etc..
Guest lakers Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 i dont think this should even be discussed asian rap is richard simmons i agree. asian rap sucks richard simmons....Name one asian artist that can even be compared to NAS.
Guest endlessrain Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 american mainstream hiphop vs asian mainstream hiphop? ill go with american just cause i listen to it much more, i find asian rap funny [yeah no hate, im asian haha] and like i know what they rap about lol anything underground is equal to me
Guest HKS457 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 actually, i think asian raps suits me more, the melody, the beat and everything about it are different.
Guest Onesweetypie Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Asian rap is more of sweet love song. If u listen to real professional asian rap (not some crappy one), rappers who dont have accents example Lil Crazed. Their flows are really nice and the beat is very original. American rap of coures is the best bc they are the one who started it. I, sometime perfer asian rap more than american rap. They get too violent and ganging.
LucasBunny Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 and people always saying "american rap is about sex drugs blah blah blah" ummmm that's nothing new, it's been that way for years ummmm Sir mix alot and that "Big booty" song?? yeh 2pac "I get around"?? U listen to LL? that's what it's been like for years so people need to stop acting like it's something new. and yes mainstream these days is about life, not all rappers talk about sex your right and we all know sex isnt the only thing that makes our rap famouse! Nas makes inspirational songs, Common doesnt rant about sex, neither does Kanye West, Biggie made some non sexual druggie songs, but people only look at the sex part of it all. and you have to realize where most of these rappers were raised and where they come from before you judge what they are rapping about, koreans are not bought up the way these rappers came up. it is soooo much more than the music, it comes from the heart, ummm why do you think K-fed is such a failure? because he only goes for the music and nothing else, it's not in his blood to rap. It doesnt matter anyway, the only asian rap I like is from YG and Epik High is pretty cool, no snacky chan, no Jin the emcee none of that garbage, even I believe Jin takes rap seriously, I think his music is trash. Doesnt matter because it's the american rap that's global and it will most likely stay that way. and whomever said I'm only going for american rap because I'm african american? ummmm that's pretty funny, I'm going by what it is and american rap no matter how sexual or druggie it is, it has the original roots that asian rap or any other just doesnt have. It's like how people say anime is only good coming from japan. and oh god who would play themselves and listen to Jay Chou?? I would rather listen to that guy from 90210 lol. To answer the topic starter's question I just say american rap is american rap. they are the cream of the crop! End of discussion
xxtine_21 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 must admit.. even though i think eric junjin andy and some yg boys are hot when they rap.. they're the only asians who i can stand listenin to when rapping even though im asian myself.. idunno i like american rap more. edit oops i didnt read first post. haha hmm lets seeeee.. i dont realli know how to answer the topicstarters question =X HAHA
Guest Paradox Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 and you have to realize where most of these rappers were raised and where they come from before you judge what they are rapping about Not to start an argument but I've never seen that as a plausible cause for someone to act a certain way and/or only rap about certain things. If you choose to be a victim to where you come from, that is your problem.
Guest x euniceee Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 i'm korean and like i hate korean rap with passion. they serioualy do just copy off of american rap and they try to be all gangstaa, black, and street and it don't work for them. they try to be all american and that just turns me off. its easier to rap in korean too
