Han Dong Soo (Shin Ha Kyun) is  a lawyer who lives from hand to mouth. Han Dong Soo is usually rational and reasonable, but he steps into the world of evil when his latent desire is woken up.

 

Seo Do Young (Kim Young Kwang) is  a former baseball player and the No. 2 man of a gang. Seo Do Young is a handsome looking man on the outside but has cruel and unpredictable madness hidden on the inside.

[Exclusive] Shin Ha-kyun X Kim Young-kwang, Noir drama with ENA's 'Biography of a villain'

 

 

According to Sports Seoul coverage on the March 5th, Shin Ha-gyun and Kim Young-kwang have recently confirmed their appearances in the ENA noir drama 'Bad Guy' and are preparing to shoot.

 

'Bad Guy' is the next work of director Kim Jung-min, who directed Netflix's 'Bride of Black' and OCN's 'Bad Guys'. Film Monster of Netflix's 'Now at My School' and 'Morning Comes to the Psychiatric Ward' was in charge of production.

 

Shin Ha-gyun, who made his debut in the 1998 film 'Amazing Men', has starred in 'Joint Security Area JSA' (2000), 'Save the Earth!' (2003), 'Welcome to Dongmakgol' (2005), 'The Bat' (2009), ' Through 'Extreme Job' (2019), 'My Special Brother' (2019), and 'Anchor' (2022), he has established himself as an actor representing Korea.

As well as movies, KBS2 drama 'Brain' (2011), MBC 'Bad Detective' (2018), KBS2 'Soul Repairer' (2020), JTBC 'The Host' (2021), Coupang Play 'Unicorn' (2022), Teabing 'Yonder' '(2022), etc., and showed a colorful acting spectrum, earning the nickname 'Ha Gyun-shin', which means 'the god of acting'.

 

Kim Yeong-kwang, in the 2008 dramas KBS2 'The World They Live In' (2008), SBS 'Pinocchio' (2014), tvN 'Nineteen Boys' (2014), MBC 'Bleakman' (2017), SBS 'First Love' (2019) , through the films 'Your Wedding' (2018) and 'Mission Possible' (2021), he drew attention for his warm appearance and handsome physicality. Recently, with Netflix's 'Thumb Body' (2022) and Disney Plus' 'Say It's Love' (2023), it is gaining acclaim for its passionate acting that crosses genres.

 

The two actors Shin Ha-gyun and Kim Young-kwang, who have been recognized for their acting skills in their respective positions, are curious about the chemistry they will show in 'The Bad Guy'/`Biography of a Villain`. Noir drama is also an expected part. Shin Ha Kyun, Kim Young Kwang, and Shin Jae Ha will be the main leads of the upcoming noir K-drama EVILLIVE.

On August 9th, it was officially confirmed that Shin Ha Kyun, Kim Young Kwang, and Shin Jae Ha will be working together in the upcoming crime noir K-drama EVILLIVE.

EVILLIVE will tell the story of a poor lawyer who will meet an absolute villain and will also make him an elite villain. 

The upcoming K-drama will be the next work of director Kim Jung Min (Remarriage and Desires, Secret Royal Inspector, and Bad Guys). 

EVILLIVE will be released this coming October. It will be available on Genie TV, Genie TV Mobile, and ENA.

Shin Ha Kyun will play the role of Han Dong Soo. He is a poor lawyer who recklessly applied to visit an inmate he has never met before to handle his case. He is usually rational with his actions but because of his latent desires, he entered into the world of evil. This will be the first K-drama project of the top actor for the year. He last starred in the sci-fi K-drama Yonder. 

Kim Young Kwang will play the role of Seo Do Young. He is a former baseball player and is now known as the second man in a gang. Although he has good looks, he is cruel and has unpredictable madness. This will be one of the upcoming K-dramas of Kim Young Kwang. He will also star in the upcoming series Mission 2: Possible and Trigger.

Shin Jae Ha will play the role of Han Beom Jae. He is the half-brother of Han Dong Soo. He currently works at a second-hand computer store. He usually gives clients to his brother but will later find out that he began changing because of the clients he introduced to. This will be his third K-drama for the year. He was part of the 2023 K-dramas Taxi Driver Season 2 and Crash Course in Romance as a villain.

ENA is lining up a new noir called Biography of a Villain (roughly translated) for later this year, and headlining the series we have a trio of leading men: Shin Ha-kyun (Yonder), Kim Young-kwang (Call It Love), and Shin Jae-ha (Taxi Driver 2).

Shin Ha-kyun, of course, is no rookie when it comes to dark hero roles and this time we’ll follow his transformation as attorney Han Dong-soo, as he’s hooked, lined, and sunk into the deeper world of evil. Although generally level-headed, Dong-soo also has ambitions and desires that are lurking just beneath the surface and they initially manifest in his aggressive tactics to find jobs. If it means making money, he’s unreserved about even visiting strangers in prisons and convinces them to become his clients.

 

Presumably, this leads Dong-soo to cross paths with Seo Do-young – played by Kim Young-kwang – who ranks number two in a large criminal organization. As a former baseball player, Do-young doesn’t appear to be a stereotypical gangster. But we must sadly say goodbye to that gentle demeanor that we fell in love with in Call It Love, because Do-young has a penchant for cruelty and chaotic madness.

Given the genre, it’s probably a hard ask for Shin Jae-ha to not be evil this time (pretty please?), but the description of his character Han Beom-jae is at least neutral… for now. His day job is working at a used computer shop, but he’s also a broker for his half-brother Dong-soo, informing him on law cases that could rake in a lot of money. But when those very cases instigate Dong-soo’s transition to the dark side, Beom-jae is forced to witness his brother’s degradation.

Production for the series is being led by a team of four with scripts co-written by Seo Hui and Lee Seung-hoon, while directing is helmed by PD Kim Jung-min (Remarriage & Desires, Bad Guys) and PD Kim Sung-min. ENA’s Biography of a Villain is currently being planned to broadcast in October.

First script reading for ENA’s Evilive

ENA’s Evilive (previously called Biography of a Villain) has kicked off their promo campaign, releasing footage from the drama’s first script reading with leads Shin Ha-kyun (Yonder), Kim Young-kwang (Call It Love), and Shin Jae-ha (Taxi Driver 2).

At the center of the noir is our rational and jobbing lawyer Han Dong-soo (Shin Ha-kyun), who sees prisons as a hive for potential clients and initiates visits to solicit his attorney services. But despite appearing harmless, Dong-soo’s inner tiger has been restless, and how can anyone resist Seo Do-young’s (Kim Young-kwang) offer to cross the boundary into his world?

 

It is, of course, a dangerous choice, as Do-young is the mob’s number two and we hear parts of his proposition in the script reading clips. Do-young menaces, saying, “Do you think I got to this position with just my fists?” and when Dong-soo is confused about why he was called here (Do-young’s court case is closed and will soon be released from prison), Do-young replies, “Did I ask you to defend a law case? I’m just bored…”

We then meet Shin Jae-ha as Dong-soo’s younger brother Han Beom-jae and while I dread a dark turn for his character (please spare my heart), it’s cute to see the two Shins wearing matching colors at the reading. While working at a used computer shop, Beom-jae also digs around for information and brokers cases for Dong-soo. Although mom Gil Hae-yeon (Can We Be Strangers) is worried about Dong-soo, Beom-jae encourages his brother to not be over cautious.

On the production side, PD Kim Jung-min (Remarriage & Desires, Bad Guys) and PD Kim Sung-min are co-directing, with scripts by Seo Hui and Lee Seung-hoon.

Premiering next month on October 14, Evilive will be airing in a new Saturday-Sunday slot on ENA.

In the first poster, Shin Ha Kyun transforms into Han Dong Soo, a poor lawyer who crosses the line and becomes evil. Han Dong Soo’s empty eyes seen through his broken glasses and face full of scars look venomous. The text that reads, “Anyone can become a villain,” raises curiosity about how Han Dong Soo turns evil.

 

The dark background of Kim Young Kwang’s character poster exudes pure evil vibes. Seo Do Young (Kim Young Kwang) is a former baseball player and the No. 2 man of a gang. Seo Do Young’s eyes that shine even in the darkness create an eerie atmosphere. The text that reads, “Aren’t you tired of losing all the time?” foreshadows Seo Do Young’s ambition and boldness as well as his cruelty.

 

Finally, Shin Jae Ha transforms into Han Dong Soo’s half-brother Han Beom Jae, who becomes embroiled in an incident along with his older brother Dong Soo. In the poster, Han Beom Jae, who appears to be engulfed in anxiety and fear, sheds tears as he holds up his hand covered with blood. The text that reads, “We will end up in hell, right?” raises viewers’ curiosity as to what kind of storm is coming ahead for these brothers.

Kim Young-kwang taunts Shin Ha-kyun in Evilive

Chilling character posters and slick teasers are out for ENA’s 10-episode noir Evilive, setting the mood for what’s to come. Stylish and atmospheric, our first glimpse into the complex minds of these protagonists is certainly an intriguing one.

Acting powerhouse Shin Ha-kyun (Yonder) stars as the opportunistic lawyer Han Dong-soo, whose methods of obtaining cases err on the gray side of morality. Pragmatic and persistent, Dong-soo often prowls the prison to solicit potential clients. His tactics may not be the most conventional, but they’ve served him well. That is, until he meets someone who awakens his inner beast — Dong-soo has been repressing his inner desires, and it’s only a matter of time before he takes his first step into the world of evil. “Experience it yourself — the feeling of being stepped on,” Dong-soo taunts, sporting a spine-chilling grin.

 

If Dong-soo toes the line, then Kim Young-kwang (Call it Love) simply steps on it. Befitting his position as the second most powerful figure in the mob, Seo Do-young is charismatic and cunning. As blood splatters onto a baseball — a callback to his past as a professional baseball player — Do-young sneers, “Aren’t you tired of always losing?” Interestingly, the word for “line” can also be interpreted as “kindness” or “goodness” — just as Do-young disregards boundaries, he also deems do-gooders as pushovers to crush beneath his feet.

Adding even more intrigue to our main cast, we have Shin Jae-ha (Taxi Driver 2) as little brother Han Beom-jae. He may only be a half-sibling to Dong-soo, but he’s certainly an invaluable assistant, using his computer skills to source for information and broker cases for our unorthodox lawyer. Since we haven’t gotten so much as a glimpse of Beom-jae yet, it’s difficult to tell which side of the line he’ll stand on — but given Shin Jae-ha’s track record, it really could go either way. (And I’m very much excited to find out!)

Helmed by PD Kim Jung-min (Remarriage & Desires) and PD Kim Sung-min, with scripts written by Jung Seo-hee and Lee Seung-hoon, Evilive is slated to premiere on October 14.
