Chingus, welcome to the Secret Garden re-watch event!

 

Now that Kim Eun Sook's The Glory is over, you may be in the mood for one of her older dramas? Secret Garden is one of her classic dramas with Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won. Now is your chance to watch it together with your Event Organizers and share your thoughts about the drama a first time or the second time around.

 

1. How do I register?

Raise your hand and say you're in. You can join or leave at any time just like in a regular drama thread.

 

2. How does it work?

Every week we will watch 3 episodes and post right here on this thread.

You can watch at your convenience but post your responses to the episode no earlier than Saturday each week.

 

3. I've never watched it. Can I join the event anyway?

Absolutely!

 

4. What should I keep in mind?

You can watch the episodes faster than 2 episodes per week, but please keep to the episode schedule with regard to commenting.

Also, please do not add spoilers in your posts that might take away from the enjoyment of the chingus watching for the first time....

All normal k-drama thread rules apply also in this thread.

 

5. What is the schedule? When can I start commenting on the weekly episodes?

Plot:

The drama tells the story of Kim Joo Won, an arrogant and eccentric CEO who maintains the image of seeming perfection, and Gil Ra Im, a poor and humble stuntwoman whose beauty and body are the object of envy amongst top actresses. Their accidental meeting, when Joo Won mistakes Ra Im for actress Park Chae Rin, marks the beginning of a tense, bickering relationship, through which Joo Won tries to hide a growing attraction to Ra Im that both confuses and disturbs him. To complicate matters further, a strange sequence of events results in them swapping bodies.

The blue line connecting Oska and Ssun is interesting. There's no text defining it, hehe. 

 

I might have seen one or two episodes or a few scenes, after all this drama has been around for a long while. I hope many friends will join us, even if it seems time committing. You can join late or drop out, but it's nice to just watch together and exchange thoughts, right? 

 

And currently I feel like there are not so many dramas out there I want to watch anyway.

Thanks a lot @partyon chingu for tagging me as always. I have to admit that I've heard a lot about this drama but I've never watched it. I watched some fan MVs on YouTube of Oska and Ssun then I be like.. 

 

Nevertheless, I think I'd love to join the fun with you guys this time!! I really need some time off lately... Count me in. Let's do it!!! ❤️

30%! Koreans like it.

A little bickering is fun but I remember watching a bit of this show, there was a bit more than my liking. Anyway that's neither here nor there. The important thing is, maybe it's cultural, I didn't find Ha Ji Won's face nor her body to be outstanding. I need that 'acceptance' to like her character. I remember she was rather abrasive.

 

(I had seen her for the first time in Sassy girl, tried to watch Samsoon which also had too much bickering)

 

Not sure if I want to try again. But I'll check this thread, regularly.

I'm also guilty of always forgetting Jung In-Gi's character names in dramas. I always just call him "Ra-Im's dad" and get mad when he's a dirtbag LOL

 

When Secret Garden aired, it was everywhere! Every store was blasting the songs, and my students quoted this drama for months. There was no escape (until the next popular drama xD). I haven't really sat down and had a rewatch in forever, so I'd like to see if I still enjoy it as much

Hi all!

I watched this drama years ago bc I wanted to see who this Hyun Bin was that others were talking about .  It was an ok drama.  Not a huge Ha Ji Won fan though.  I remember Oska!  But I can't remember why.  Ok, I'll start the first two episodes and see if I can handle watching it again.

@Ameera Ali he was "Han Tae-sun" in Secret Garden. The casting for 'Sun' was originally meant for Jay Park, but was eventually passed on to Lee Jong Suk since the role was of an aspiring musician. So, he underwent vocal training but, eventually had to lip-sync for a couple of his singing scenes. He played the role of a gay character. I guess you can't remember him in the drama because most of the time when he was on screen his lines would be short and to the point.

@YongZura⁷ I enjoyed watching the drama for 2x..... The soul-swapping was awkwardly hilarious.  

 

@partyon  thanks, dear for tagging me. I enjoyed the experience. I would recommend it to anyone who still haven't watched the drama yet, for sure. Would I watch it again? Probably not. Twice was enough. I was more than satisfied.

LOL. First of all, I realized after the fact that I wrote "Hyun Bun" instead of "Hyun Bin." That reminded me of Honey Bun which made me laugh pretty hard. I'm sure he's Son Ye Jin's honeybun but not mine.

 

HB reminds me of my dad from photos of when my dad was younger. Square jaw, complexion, hair, high cheekbones...so it was hard for me to watch CLOY and see HB's kissing scenes. Personality-wise I'm not sure, as Hyun Bin seems more serious than my dad. But we'll see what happens with Secret Garden.

Is it shameful to say that I actually...haven't fully watched Secret Garden before... Okay! But to my defense, I have watched parts of the drama.

 

Also I was in a bit drama slump where I have a whole bunch of dramas I want to watch but just did not feel like starting ANY OF THEM. Island got me out of that though because that's the one I am finishing up right now xD

@ferily  I guess lack of time from your end? This happened to me most of the time. The series was so popular when it was released. All my friends were talking about it. But, I didn't watch this because it's popular but, I'm a Hyunbin bias. The show originally has 20 episodes – but, due to its popularity, two additional episodes were added after the show ended.They weren’t really a continuation of the story though. It was a behind the scenes look at the show, the NGs and a short interview with the cast. I love his character here - a handsome, and rich CEO of a department store. Sure, the “bored rich kid who falls in love with a commoner and goes against his mom just to be with her” is not something original, but Hyun Bin’s charms made me (and for sure thousands of fans) love Kim Joo Won. He’s not afraid to make himself look stupid and I love that about him. Hahaha - I love every time Joo Woon tries to explain his expensive tracksuit to someone (or anything expensive he owns, like his car and his office floor). Also, I love that sit ups scene! C’mon, who doesn’t love that scene, huh? I also love  the cream on the lips scene at the coffee house. It was so cliche but still made me squeal!  You might have noticed that most of my favorite scenes included Kim Joo Won. - LOL - While this is the first time I watched a K-drama where the female main character worked as a stunt woman. Although, I felt like this drama could have worked out even without the fantasy element. Overall, "Secret Garden" gave me a good laugh. If you want a light romance with a fantasy twist, this drama is for you. And if you've watched this before, I'm sure you will enjoy re-watching it. I enjoyed this drama a lot.
