BySougata Nandi Sep 22, 2024 – 15:01 PM IST inKorean5

The childhood friends to lovers trope is one of the most loved and recurring themes in K-dramas. These stories often feature characters who grew up together, either as close friends or even rivals, before reconnecting as adults. Whether they shared a special bond in their younger days or were sworn enemies, these K-dramas explore how time, distance, and personal growth can transform relationships. Many recent series have focused on self-healing and rediscovering connections, making the journey from childhood to love even more meaningful. Here are five K-dramas that perfectly capture this popular trope

Doctor Slump

Yeo Jung Woo (played by Park Hyung Sik) and Nam Ha Neul (played by Park Shin Hye) were rivals in school, always competing for the top spot. Now, years later, both find themselves at a crossroads. Jung Woo, a plastic surgeon, is embroiled in a legal case, while Ha Neul, an anesthesiologist, has quit her job after facing burnout. Their lives intersect again when Jung Woo becomes Ha Neul’s tenant, forcing them to see each other not just as competitors but as people facing similar struggles.

“Doctor Slump” maintain themes of mental health and toxic work environments, showing that it’s okay to step back and take care of yourself. Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye share a natural chemistry, making this drama both heartfelt and relevant.

Dubai Tourism held the "2024 Dubai Tourism Roadshow and VIP Gala Dinner" to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Korea office and to celebrate its close relationship with the Korean travel industry.

The event was held at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul on the evening of the 24th, and was attended by various partners including the UAE Ambassador to Korea Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, DET, as well as media and companies.

Another highlight of the event was the surprise appearance of actor Park Hyungsik, who was recently selected as a "Dubai Friend" and is the main character in the video, at the end of the most recently released global campaign video . He made the atmosphere of the event even more harmonious by sharing behind-the-scenes footage and his thoughts on the filming in Dubai .

Dubai Tourism expressed its gratitude, saying, "Korean tourists have been steadily visiting Dubai, and their numbers have continued to grow, with the number of Korean tourists in the first half of this year increasing by 51% compared to last year. Dubai's safe, family-friendly environment and diverse tourist attractions and experiences will ensure this growth trend continues in the second half of the year."

The morning roadshow was attended by 15 local partner companies in Dubai and about 70 travel agency representatives, who shared new travel destinations in Dubai, grasped trends in the Korean market, and sought to develop related products.

The VIP gala dinner was attended by not only travel industry representatives but also partner companies from various fields that have worked closely with Dubai Tourism in the past, providing an important opportunity to look back on Dubai Tourism's journey over the past 10 years and share its vision for the future.

The gala dinner kicked off with immersive media art works that stimulated the senses of sight, sound and smell, which can only be seen at ARTE Museum Dubai, and UAE Ambassador to Korea Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi highlighted the growing ties between Korea and the UAE in his speech celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Dubai Tourism Authority's Korea office.

Sky: I know you're amazing, but then why didn't you just tell me from the beginning that you'd be writing in a place where I could be with you? I got nervous for no reason when I heard that..
Jungwoo: Nervous..? Why?
Sky: Well, I'm the type of person who gets nervous easily..
Jungwoo: Oh ~~
Sky: Hey.. do you want some coffee?
