Frankly Speaking unveiled still cuts of Go Kyung Pyo.

Frankly Speaking tells the story of Song Ki Baek (Go Kyung Pyo), an announcer, who is unexpectedly afflicted with a disease that doesn't let him control the words coming from his mouth. Intrigued by Song's manner of speech, the passionate TV variety show writer On Woo Joo (Kang Han Na) invites him to her variety show.

Song Ki Baek worked diligently for 8 years as an employee who never said 'No' to any task assigned. If he had held on a little longer, the flowery path to becoming the main anchor would have unfolded smoothly. But, his dream encounters a setback after he suffers an electric shock and his tongue gets out of his control. Once a 'Yes Man', he now transforms into a 'Fact Bomber' who cannot refrain from saying what he does not want to.

In the following stills, as expected of an FM announcer, he appears professional from head to toe in a perfectly fitting suit. However, his flustered appearance and confusion as he leans over the news desk, or the glare with which he stares at someone, evoke laughter.

Actor Go Kyung Pyo expressed his thoughts on his role, saying, "I felt exhilarated while acting. I felt a cathartic thrill."

The production team of Frankly Speaking stated, "Song Ki Baek has an upright image that makes him look like he's difficult to approach, but he also has a clumsy side that is not apparent. As he becomes incapable of lying, that aspect of him frequently emerges. You can expect to see various charms of Go Kyung Pyo."

Frankly Speaking will premiere in May.

Go Kyung Pyo's Inability To Lie Catches Kang Han Na's Eye In New Rom-Com "Frankly Speaking"

Apr 02, 2024
by E Cha

JTBC has unveiled the main poster for its upcoming drama “Frankly Speaking” (previously known as “No Secrets”)!

“Frankly Speaking” is a new romantic comedy starring Go Kyung Pyo as Song Ki Baek, a rising news anchor who lives strictly by the rules and has worked hard to build up a clean image. However, Song Ki Baek’s life takes a (literally) shocking turn when he is electrocuted in an accident, leading him to develop a strange condition that prevents him from lying.

Kang Han Na will star as On Woo Ju, a passionate variety show writer who is willing to do anything to make a program entertaining. The sharp On Woo Ju sees the potential for variety show gold in the brutally honest Song Ki Baek, and their entanglement winds up changing both of their lives forever.

In the newly released poster, On Woo Ju is beaming after catching Song Ki Baek by his tie. It looks as though Song Ki Baek is entirely at On Woo Ju’s mercy as she drags him around, hinting at the fun dynamic to come between the two leads.

Meanwhile, the once neatly dressed and clean-cut Song Ki Baek is now a total mess, with rumpled hair unbefitting of a news anchor. Now that he is physically unable to lie or say anything he doesn’t truly mean, Song Ki Baek desperately attempts to stop himself from talking by placing a post-it over his own mouth.

20240403141258_Frankly-Speaking-1.jpg?s=Watch: Go Kyung Pyo And Kang Han Na Become Entangled After A Fateful Accident In Hilarious Teasers For "Frankly Speaking"

Apr 03, 2024
by E Cha

JTBC has shared new sneak peeks of its upcoming drama “Frankly Speaking” (previously known as “No Secrets”)!

The first of two newly released teasers begins with Song Ki Baek introducing himself to viewers on his news program. Someone then describes him in voice-over by saying admiringly, “He’s from a good family, he’s good at his job, and he has good character. He’s got everything. No wonder he’s always so relaxed.”

However, that relaxation abruptly comes to an end when Song Ki Baek suffers an accident that makes him physically unable to lie or say anything he doesn’t truly mean. As Song Ki Baek tries to get his life back together after the accident, someone off-screen tells him, “You’ve changed, you know that? You’ve become weird!”

Before his accident, Song Ki Baek was a slick “yes man” who never said “no” to his boss in any situation—but after it, he can’t even bring himself to say “I respect you” when he doesn’t mean it. After struggling to get through the words, Song Ki Baek ultimately winds up blurting out, “I don’t respect you!” He then adds, “I’m getting irritated,” leading his boss to yell at him, “Get out!”

The teaser ends with Song Ki Baek exclaiming, “So I can’t say anything I don’t mean… does this make any sense?! Will I be able to read the news in this state?”

The second teaser introduces viewers to On Woo Ju (played by Kang Han Na), a passionate variety show writer who is willing to do anything to make a program entertaining. After getting the devastating news that her program might be cancelled, On Woo Ju sets out to find a replacement for a no-show cast member.

On Woo Ju then sees the potential for variety show gold in Song Ki Baek, and she declares that she wants to cast him. Song Ki Baek initially seems to turn her down, saying, “Rather than appearing on variety shows, I want to be an [anchor] that reports the truth with depth.”

However, things change after Song Ki Baek’s accident, with a confused On Woo Ju asking, “Are there instances where someone’s personality suddenly changes after being electrocuted?”

Meanwhile, Song Ki Baek’s life devolves into chaos as he starts telling the truth without holding back: in one scene, he tells someone, “Do you not know how bad your feet smell?” In another, he proclaims, “I’m going to get revenge. No matter what.” Surprised by the sudden change in his attitude, On Woo Ju asks Song Ki Baek, “Why are you doing this? Are you crazy?”

At the very end of the teaser, Song Ki Baek begs On Woo Ju to go away as she warns him, “It’s dangerous [up there]!”

Frankly Speaking has unveiled Kang Han Na's first stills.

Kang Han Na transforms into On Woo Joo, a hard-working variety show writer whose living depends on her show's viewer ratings. Woo Joo has held onto her job for a whopping 12 years, surviving in the chaotic world of broadcasting while handling program planning, casting, on-site management, editing, and even managing the mental health of the cast.

Despite the demanding nature of her profession, she maintains an excessively positive attitude and passion, and often says, "I'm fine, I just need to cheer up and work hard."

In the stills, Woo Joo's tireless efforts to make a living are vividly captured. From recruiting cast members with a bright smile to pondering ideas and exploring the filming site, her passion for work is evident throughout.

The production team of Frankly Speaking said, "Woo Joo is a character who loves her profession more than anything else and has a sentimental rather than calculating personality."

Frankly Speaking will premiere on May 1. There is currently no news about the K-drama's global OTT streaming service.

A Frankly Speaking Go Kyung-pyo spells mayhem for Kang Hanna

by tccolb

New teasers have hit the airwaves for JTBC’s rom-com Frankly Speaking (previously No Secrets), where chaos explodes for our truth-bombing announcer Go Kyung-pyo (D.P. 2) while variety writer Kang Hanna (Red Heart) seizes the ratings opportunity for her show.

Opening on our hero’s backstory, we learn in the first teaser that Song Ki-baek (Go Kyung-pyo) is the man who has it all, having a good family, good personality, and competent in his work. That is, until one fateful day when Ki-baek is suddenly struck with the inability to stretch the truth, and the serene look in his eyes becomes a little crazed.

But try as he might, Ki-baek struggles to bite his tongue, sputtering to his superior that, “I re…re…spect you – not. I’m really… annoyed.” Naturally, Ki-baek is unceremoniously told to scram – only to then run for his life from a screaming mob that he also somehow offends. The sequence then ends with Ki-baek worrying in earnest about his job: “Will I be able to deliver the news? In this state?”

In the next teaser, the focus turns to our heroine Ohn Woo-joo (Kang Hanna) in the midst of a crisis with a no-show cast member on her variety program Running Brothers, which is also in danger of cancellation from the network. While brainstorming with her team, Woo-joo’s spidey senses start to tingle when Ki-baek appears on TV. But when she arranges a meeting, Ki-baek is dismissive, explaining his preference to report on the truth in a meaningful way.

We then of course cut to Ki-baek on Running Brothers. However, even Woo-joo is surprised by the extent of Ki-baek’s unfiltered and hilariously petty antics, ranging from “Your feet stink” to “I’m going to get revenge.” Woo-joo starts to wonder, “Is it possible for someone’s personality to change after an electric shock?” But before she can dwell on such thoughts, a panicking Ki-baek causes more trouble by climbing the rocky cliffs, and the teaser ends as both of our leads fall into the water below.

Directed by PD Jang Ji-yeon with writing by Choi Kyung-sun, JTBC’s Frankly Speaking will be premiering next month on May 1.

JTBC's Frankly Speaking unveiled the first stills of Joo Jong Hyuk.

Joo Jong Hyuk has taken on the role of trot singer Kim Jung Heon in the upcoming comedy K-drama.

In a nutshell, Kim Jung Heon is the "nation's son-in-law", who has the highest rating in the entertainment industry. He debuted as an idol at the age of twenty, but after a massive failure within a year, he spent nearly a decade in the broadcasting industry, working as an assistant, guest, reporter, etc.

Then one day, by chance, he participated in a trot audition program, and rose to second place, stealing the hearts of mothers nationwide, and earning the title of "nation's son-in-law". After gaining success as a trot singer, he works tirelessly for one goal: to reunite with his ex, On Woo Joo (Kang Han Na). And finally, the opportunity for him to reveal the feelings he has held onto for so long arises

The still cuts capture both the on-screen and off-screen versions of Jung Heon. When on screen, he has neatly arranged hair, wears a tidy suit, and exudes cheerful energy. However, at home, he keeps his hair messy and wears a loose T-shirt while relishing a pack of yogurt.

In the last still cut, he is seen dressed in a tuxedo, standing in front of On Woo Joo. It is also important to note that Jung Heon is not only Woo Joo's ex but also Song Ki Baek's (Go Kyung Pyo) former classmate.

Go Kyung-pyo is desperate to stop Frankly Speaking

by tccolb

202404091016166710_2_20240409101804332.jpg

The promo train for JTBC’s Frankly Speaking has been chugging along at a busy pace, delivering new character posters and stills of our three leads: Go Kyung-pyo (D.P. 2), Kang Hanna (Red Heart), and Joo Jong-hyuk (Extraordinary Attorney Woo).

Set against the backdrop of the entertainment and media industry, Go Kyung-pyo plays our hero Song Ki-baek, a well-respected announcer aspiring to rise to the news anchor seat. For the last eight years, he’s been carefully curating his public image as a man of truth – which naturally requires taking some… creative liberties in how he presents himself. But Ki-baek’s career is at risk of termination when he’s suddenly afflicted with an actual inability to speak nothing but the truth, and our announcer admits in his poster’s tagline: “Truthfully, I want to lie.”

Enter Kang Hanna as variety show writer Ohn Woo-joo, who had been feeling like she lost her touch. However, 12 years of experience in her field is not something to snub at and when Woo-joo spots one of Ki-baek’s truth-spilling antics, her gut tells her that she’s hit the jackpot. It’s a timely discovery for Woo-joo and fingers-crossed that she’s right on the money because her faltering show is about to get axed if Ki-baek isn’t enough to turnaround the ratings.

Thankfully (?), Woo-joo’s ex-boyfriend Kim Jung-heon – played by Joo Jong-hyuk – knows a thing or two about being the underdog as a failed idol singer who later found success after winning second place in a trot audition show. Now a variety mainstay as the nation’s beloved son-in-law, Jung-heon hoped to get cast on Woo-joo’s show and rekindle their romance. But something tells me his plans are for naught.

On the production side, the rom-com has PD Jang Ji-yeon at the helm with scripts penned by Choi Kyung-sun. Slated to air in the Wednesday-Thursday slot, JTBC’s Frankly Speaking premieres on May 1 and will be released internationally on Netflix.
