"Strange Sweets Shop Jeoncheondang" revolves around Jeoncheondang, a mysterious candy store that sells snacks that fulfills wishes and the mysterious life stories of the people who visit the store.

"Strange Sweets Shop Jeoncheondang" will base its story on the popular novel of the same name by Reiko Hiroshima. The novel was first published in 2013. It easily became the no.1 in the fantasy field and every time a new volume was released, the novel becomes popular in Korea. Over 16 books were published until November last year.

Ra Mi Ran and Lee Re are confirmed to lead the new K-drama titled "Strange Sweets Shop Jeoncheondang."

It was officially confirmed on February 9 that Ra Mi Ran and Lee Re will be the main leads of the upcoming fantasy K-drama "Strange Sweets Shop Jeoncheondang." The two will work with director Park Bong Sub who also created the K-dramas "Eve," "Dinner Mate," and "Love for a Thousand More."

This will be the third upcoming K-drama of the actress. She will also lead the upcoming series "The Good Bad Mother" and "Cruel Intern." Ra Mi Ran will also join the upcoming films "Citizen of a Kind" and "High Five." 

Lee Re will play the role of Yo Mi, the owner of the confectionary store Hwaangdang. It is the rival of the Jeoncheondang store. This will be a comeback K-drama of Lee Re after two years. The actress last starred in the Netflix original K-drama "Hellbound." Lee Re will also star in the upcoming film "Three Days" with Park Shin Yang, Lee Min Ki, Yoon Jong Seok, and Woo Min Ji.

Ra Mi-ran (Dr. Park’s Clinic) and Lee Re (Hellbound) are becoming rival shop owners for a new fantasy called Strange Snack Shop Jeonchundang (roughly translated). Based on the Japanese novel series Fushigi Dagashiya Zenitendo, which also has an anime adaptation, the Korean drama version will be penned by Lee Ji-hyun with PD Park Bong-seop (Eve) at the helm. Ra Mi-ran and Lee Re open a Strange Snack Shop

Script reading stills have been released for the upcoming fantasy drama Strange Snack Shop, which certainly has a promising premise. Based on Hiroshima Reiko’s novel Fushigi Dagashiya Zenitendo, also known as The Mysterious Candy Store, the tale centers around a mystical snack shop run by the enigmatic Hong-ja. Played by Ra Mi-ran (Dr. Park’s Clinic), Hong-ja is far from your average run-of-the-mill business owner.

 

That’s because there’s something extraordinary about her store Jeonchundang — it’s only visible to a select lucky few. These visitors often have worries weighing on their mind, and it’s up to Hong-ja to prescribe a personalized candy cure for each of them. With the power to make one’s dreams come true, these snacks may seem like an instant remedy for any ailment. However, that isn’t necessarily the case.

Though the snacks have magical properties, their efficacy depends on how the customer chooses to use them. As such, the taciturn Hong-ja makes it a point not to interfere in her customers’ affairs. She’ll patiently hear them out, but once she’s dispensed the necessary snacks, they’re out of her hands. After all, it’s up to Jeonchundang’s patrons to take charge of their own destinies.

Starring opposite Hong-ja is Lee Re (Hellbound) as Yo-mi, fellow snack shop owner and Jeonchundang’s main business rival. Though she’s constantly devising ways to obstruct Hong-ja’s business and win over her customers, Yo-mi is far from an unlikable character. On the contrary, Yo-mi is said to be an intriguing and unconventional adversary — ooh, frenemies perhaps?

This drama also marks a reunion between Ra Mi-ran and Lee Re, who previously collaborated on the 2013 film Hope. Exactly a decade later, they’re crossing paths once again, and I’m eagerly anticipating the chemistry between our leading ladies.

Directed by Park Bong-seop (Eve) with scripts written by Lee Ji-hyun, Strange Snack Shop is slated to premiere in the later half of 2023.
