Watch: Um Tae Goo Is Clumsy In Front Of Han Sun Hwa In Upcoming Rom-Com “My Sweet Mobster”

May 21, 2024
by J Lee

JTBC’s new drama “My Sweet Mobster” has unveiled another character teaser!

“My Sweet Mobster” is a romance drama with surprising twists about Seo Ji Hwan (Um Tae Goo), who has overcome his troubled past, and Go Eun Ha (Han Sun Hwa), a kids’ content creator. The drama promises a story of reconciling the past and rediscovering childhood innocence.

Um Tae Goo takes on the role of Seo Ji Hwan, the CEO of the social enterprise Thirsty Deer who has left behind his past as a former gang leader. Traveling nationwide to dismantle gangs, Seo Ji Hwan actively recruits former members upon their release from prison and guides them toward a fresh start.

The newly released teaser starts with Um Tae Goo dressed in a head-to-toe black suit, exuding charisma as he confidently leads his followers. The followers’ enthusiastic greeting, “Hello, boss!” signifies just how powerful he is within the group.

However, this charismatic demeanor takes a drastic turn when he tenderly caresses Go Eun Ha’s hair. In a comedic twist, he stumbles over a chair, screams, and drops Eun Ha from a piggyback ride, revealing his clumsiness. The teaser ends with Ji Hwan acting cutesy and making heart gestures while Go Eun Ha teasingly asks, “Who is the pitiful one that couldn’t even date a single woman in his 36 years of life?”

Um Tae Goo And Kwon Yool Fight For Han Sun Hwa's Love In "My Sweet Mobster"

May 21, 2024
by E Ezeji

JTBC’s upcoming drama “My Sweet Mobster” has released a poster featuring Um Tae Goo, Kwon Yool, and Han Sun Hwa!

“My Sweet Mobster” is a new romance drama with surprising twists starring Um Tae Goo as Seo Ji Hwan, a man who has overcome his troubled past, and Han Sun Hwa as Go Eun Ha, a kids’ content creator. The drama promises a story of reconciling the past and rediscovering childhood innocence.

Um Tae Goo will play the role of Seo Ji Hwan, the CEO of the social enterprise Thirsty Deer, who has left behind his past as a former gang leader. Traveling nationwide to dismantle gangs, Seo Ji Hwan actively recruits former members upon their release from prison and guides them toward a fresh start.

Han Sun Hwa will portray Go Eun Ha, a kids’ content creator known as “Mini Unnie” who spares no effort to bring joy to children. Pursuing a minimalist approach to play without expensive toys, Eun Ha often faces criticism from her production company due to her low number of subscribers, but she remains unwaveringly bright, determined, and resilient.

Kwon Yool will star as Jang Hyun Woo, a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office and an enthusiastic subscriber of Mini Unnie. Jang Hyeon Woo exhibits endless kindness toward children visiting the prosecution office but maintains a firm belief that “people don’t change” when it comes to criminals. As a result, he harbors continuous suspicion toward Seo Ji Hwan, who legally takes former convicts under his wings.

The newly released poster captures Seo Ji Hwan and prosecutor Jang Hyun Woo facing off against one another, with Go Eun Ha in between them. Go Eun Ha has a gentle smile on her face as she holds a pink heart balloon in the center of the poster, with sparkling and innocent eyes befitting a kids’ content creator who protects the innocence of children.

Seo Ji Hwan, who is holding a toy fork with a heart on it, wears a serious expression, but there is something endearingly funny about the cute scar mark on his face. Meanwhile, Seo Ji Hwan’s nemesis, prosecutor Jang Hyun Woo, looks unexpectedly adorable with a heart-shaped mark on his cheek. Jang Hyun Woo is captured with a toy gun that shoots pink hearts instead of bullets, piquing curiosity about what kind of connection he will have with Go Eun Ha and Seo Ji Hwan. Why did an intimidating former gang leader and a prosecutor who punishes criminals fall in love with a kids’ content creator? And what kind of confrontation will unfold between Seo Ji Hwan and Jang Hyun Woo as they fight for Go Eun Ha’s love?

Ex-mobster Uhm Tae-gu is a fool for love and Han Sun-hwa
by tccolb

More promos have arrived for JTBC’s upcoming My Sweet Mobster, with second lead Kwon Yul (Longing for You) joining Han Sun-hwa’s (Work Later, Drink Now 2) pink party in the new group poster, while the character teaser focuses on our charismatic-but-bumbling hero Uhm Tae-gu (Hometown).

Indeed, Seo Ji-hwan (Uhm Tae-gu) had once commanded a seedy bunch, intimidating his opponents with his steely gaze and iron fists. But as we read in the teaser’s text screens, what happens when our scary mob boss decides to turn over a new leaf, switching to the fight for good and embarking on his first journey into romance?

The answer is, well, hijinks, as we watch a flailing Ji-hwan try and try to make our heroine Go Eun-ha (Han Sun-hwa) swoon. But with no experience when it comes to women and love, Ji-hwan is in a constant state of panic around Eun-ha, turning him into an adorably awkward and fumbling mess.

The accompanying captions repeat Eun-ha’s question in voiceover, asking, “Who is the pitiful person who made it to age 36 without dating any women?” The teaser then comes to a close as our smitten Ji-hwan wears his heart on his sleeve while his unamused acquaintance remarks on Ji-hwan’s excitement.

Based on a popular webnovel by the same title in Korean, production for the rom-com has PD Kim Young-hwan (Today’s Webtoon) and PD Kim Woo-hyun (Life) co-directing with scripts by Na Kyung. JTBC’s My Sweet Mobster follows Frankly Speaking in the Wednesday-Thursday slot, premiering next month on June 12.

Um Tae Goo Dishes On His Character In Upcoming Drama

Um Tae Goo Dishes On His Character In Upcoming Drama "My Sweet Mobster"

Um Tae Goo has shared his thoughts on his character in JTBC’s upcoming drama “My Sweet Mobster”!

“My Sweet Mobster” is a romance drama with surprising twists starring Um Tae Goo as Seo Ji Hwan, a man who has overcome his troubled past, and Han Sun Hwa as Go Eun Ha, a kids’ content creator. The drama promises a story of reconciling the past and rediscovering childhood innocence.

Um Tae Goo, who is known for playing commanding roles like a Japanese officer and a soldier, thanked fans for their interest in the new drama’s teasers and posters. “I’ve heard many people say that the drama looked like it’d be fun to watch after seeing the teasers and posters,” said the actor. “It’s all thanks to the efforts of the many staff members who made the visuals intense and enjoyable so that viewers can quickly understand what the drama is about.”

He added, “Because I’ve recently done a lot of darker projects and roles, I naturally wanted to connect with viewers through more lighthearted projects as well. That’s when I stumbled upon ‘My Sweet Mobster,’ and because it’s a delightful and adorable drama, I thought to myself that I wanted to take on this new challenge.”

Um Tae Goo revealed that even though his character Seo Ji Hwan is constantly dressed in black attire, which conceals his true nature, he’s actually a person with pure intentions. Explaining that he aimed to capture all these different facets of the character, he said, “I focused on showing the stark difference in Seo Ji Hwan’s behavior when he interacts with Go Eun Ha compared to when he’s working.”

The actor also noted, “I believe I’ve tried every heart gesture possible [while playing Seo Ji Hwan].” He went on to explain, “I believed that displaying such a playful side could accentuate Seo Ji Hwan’s unexpected charms. So I dedicated myself to it and did my best, and as I kept going, I got swept up in the mood, forgetting any embarrassment and giving it my all.”

um-tae-goo-my-sweet-mobster-1.jpg

Um Tae Goo continued, “Since Seo Ji Hwan is absorbed in his work and is busy taking care of the people at his company, he hasn’t had much experience with dating, so he often appears awkward. While he usually pursues perfection, he is clumsy when it comes to relationships, which could be one oof his charming points.”

When asked to list three keywords for the character of Seo Ji Hwan, he replied, “Awkward, upstanding, and warm-hearted.”

He continued, “In the drama, Seo Ji Hwan always holds himself to strict standards to prevent reverting to his past after putting it behind him. I hope viewers will keep an eye on how Seo Ji Hwan, who used to live in constant tension, discovers the emotion of love after meeting Go Eun Ha and how he gradually embraces that feeling. I also hope viewers will gradually warm up to the clumsy yet lovable Seo Ji Hwan and the charms of ‘My Sweet Mobster.'”

“My Sweet Mobster” will premiere on June 12 at 8:50 p.m. KST.

Rival Kwon Yul taunts My Sweet Mobster Uhm Tae-gu

by tccolb

A fun new teaser has swung in for JTBC’s upcoming My Sweet Mobster, setting down the framework for our rom-com’s petty love triangle as Han Sun-hwa (Work Later, Drink Now 2) gets caught between Uhm Tae-gu (Hometown) and Kwon Yul (Longing for You).

But first, we begin with a wistful Go Eun-ha (Han Sun-hwa) remembering her lonely childhood, explaining that, “Until I was 7 years old, no one ever played with me. It was then that I met Hyun-woo oppa. I wanted to become that kind of person to other children. I’d like to meet him again at least once.”

In the dreamlike sequence, we’re led to believe that this neighborhood oppa could very well be our prosecutor Jang Hyun-woo (Kwon Yul). His name checks the box, of course, and he even gets his hero moment, shielding Eun-ha from an oncoming puddle splash. But curiously as Eun-ha finishes her voiceover, the music warps as we cut to the once legendary mobster Seo Ji-hwan (Uhm Tae-gu).

Thankfully, our heroine doesn’t need to be scared as Ji-hwan now walks on the right side of the law and strives to do all that is good in the world. But Hyun-woo’s presence does stoke a fiery anger inside Ji-hwan and our boys begin their quibbling battle through the comments section on Eun-ha’s channel.

To be fair, Hyun-woo does take the grown up approach afterwards and asks outright if Ji-hwan likes Eun-ha. Hyun-woo also confesses his feelings to Eun-ha directly, later in the sequence. But oh the woe of a second lead, let the prayer circle commence for Kwon Yul’s next role.

On the other hand, our hero is still maturing in this first journey into love and responds like a jealous child by tugging Eun-ha’s chair closer. Despite Ji-hwan’s clumsy antics, though, it’s his face that Eun-ha turns to as the teaser comes to a close and we end on her admission that, “It was a good memory, made with a good person.”

Co-directed by PD Kim Young-hwan (Today’s Webtoon) and PD Kim Woo-hyun (Life), with Na Kyung penning the scripts, JTBC’s My Sweet Mobster is slated to premiere on June 12 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

Han Sun-hwa has My Sweet Mobster Uhm Tae-gu feeling faint

by tccolb

As we head into the last week of promos before the premiere, JTBC came out with another cute teaser for the upcoming My Sweet Mobster, following our titular hero Uhm Tae-gu (Hometown) as he falls head-over-heels for Han Sun-hwa (Work Later, Drink Now 2).

Beginning once again with a look at the past, a wary Kwon Yul (Longing for You) explains in voiceover that, “Seo Ji-hwan (Uhm Tae-gu) is no ordinary CEO. He’s the most dangerous person that I know.” And yet, this once scary mob boss is knocked out cold by an accidental jab from our heroine’s broom – though, presumably, she must have hit a previously injured area.

We’re then introduced to Go Eun-ha’s (Han Sun-hwa) job as a kids’ content creator, under the handle, “Minnie Unni.” Through a shenanigan-filled sequence, Eun-ha encounters Ji-hwan again (and again), and this time Cupid’s arrow hits him right on the jugular, claiming his heart for our bubbly heroine.

Feeling competitive with our dashing second lead Jang Hyun-woo (Kwon Yul), Ji-hwan prods, “One might think that you have ulterior motives for that Unni [Eun-ha].” However, Hyun-woo is suspicious of Ji-hwan as well, replying, “I’m of the belief that people cannot change.”

But our sunny Eun-ha is more trusting of our hero, curiously asking, “Were you really a gangster?” and reassures Ji-hwan that he’s not scary. Their developing relationship has Ji-hwan feeling shy, though, and the teaser ends with Ji-hwan cutely wondering who Eun-ha is.

With scripts written by Na Kyung and co-directing by PD Kim Young-hwan (Today’s Webtoon) and PD Kim Woo-hyun (Life), JTBC’s rom-com My Sweet Mobster will be premiering next week on June 12.

The newly released stills capture Seo Ji Hwan and Go Eun Ha’s first meeting at a club. Despite leaving his shadowy past as a mobster behind, Seo Ji Hwan, who is now running a social enterprise called Thirsty Deer, still exudes an imposing and intimidating aura, clad in all-black attire.

Similarly, his striking appearance leaves a strong impression on kids’ content creator Go Eun Ha when she first sees him at the club. The stills show Seo Ji Hwan holding a broken bottle, a wounded waiter lying on the ground beside him, and Go Eun Ha arriving at the scene. Mistaking the situation as dangerous for the waiter, Go Eun Ha intervenes to prevent it from escalating.

Seo Ji Hwan’s baffled expression as Go Eun Ha abruptly handcuffs him hints at an encounter that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact. Stay tuned to witness how this mistaken first impression will affect their future interactions!
