Based on the webtoon of the same name, “Death’s Game” tells the story of a man who gets more than one second chance at life after facing death. Park So Dam will play the role of Death, who sentences a man named Choi Yi Jae (Seo In Guk) to 12 cycles of life and death.

Kim Jae Wook will be playing the role of Jung Gyu Cheol, a painter who was born to an ordinary family but believes that he has an extraordinary talent. With his unusual aesthetic sense, Jung Gyu Cheol is inspired by something he happens to see on the street and captures it on canvas. When the resulting painting is lauded internationally as a striking portrayal of the cruelty hidden deep within human beings, Jung Gyu Cheol’s art career takes off.

After becoming a critics’ darling, Jung Gyu Cheol is now in the midst of preparing his next work. However, one of the newly released stills from the upcoming drama captures Jung Gyu Cheol at a dark, abandoned building, raising the question of what the painter could be doing in such a desolate place late at night.

The producers of “Death’s Game” remarked, “In contrast to actor Kim Jae Wook’s gentle appearance, something about the character of Jung Gyu Cheol gives off a slightly dangerous vibe. Kim Jae Wook is flawlessly portraying those complexities of the character.”

Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Park Jin Tae is the second son of Tae Gang Group, a company founded by his grandfather. Leading a life surrounded by wealth, he epitomizes the notion that “Money can solve everything.” However, despite living what looks like a smooth life, he has been in constant rivalry with his older brother Park Tae Woo (Kim Ji Hoon) since birth. Realizing that he can only win in life by defeating his brother, Park Jin Tae ignites an ambitious desire to take over the Tae Gang Group.

The newly released photos offer glimpses into Park Jin Tae’s daily life, revealing his unwavering determination to be better than his brother even during leisure activities like practice shooting. In the K-drama, Choi Si Won plays the role of Park Jin Tae, a third-generation chaebol and the second grandson of the founder of the Taekang Group.

Born into the lap of opulence and surrounded by luxuries, he carries the ethos that money is everything. While Park Jin Tae appears to lead a smooth life, he has a rival: Park Tae Woo.

His older brother, Park Tae Woo (Kim Ji Hoon), has been his competitor since birth. Realizing that to become the ultimate victor in life, he aims to surpass him, and his attitude is motivated by his ardent ambition to take over the Taekang Group.

The stills depict the daily life of Park Jin Tae. Born with a golden spoon in his mouth, he has all the luxury he could ever wish for. He travels using his private jet and also indulges in the hobby of shooting, which his father and brother also enjoy.

His demeanor makes it evident that he is determined to surpass his older brother Park Tae Woo in all aspects of life.

Super Junior’s Choi Siwon takes on the role of a third-generation chaebol (heir of a rich family) named Park Jin Tae, as revealed in the new stills of the highly-anticipated thriller series Death’s Game. Part 1 of the series will be released on December 15 on TVING, while the second part will premiere on January 5.

Let’s dive into the character arc of Park Jin Tae, essayed by actor Choi Siwon.

Understanding Choi Siwon’s character in Death’s Game

In this supernatural series, Super Junior’s Choi Siwon will be portraying the role of Park Jin Tae, a wealthy man who hails from a well-established business family. He is caught up in a race to become the successor of the business empire, Tae Gang Group, founded by his grandfather.

Actor Seo In Guk lends his voice for the OST of his upcoming fantasy thriller Death's Game.

The upcoming TVING original series, Death's Game, is the story of Choi Yi Jae (Seo In Guk), a perennially unemployed man struggling in all spheres of life, who goes through the cycle of life and death 12 times as a punishment from Death (Park So Dam) before falling into hell.

As an avid fan of the original webtoon, Seo In Guk expressed, "I was drawn to the character of Yi Jae because he faces the boundary between life and death, shows a strong instinctive nature while having depth in emotional expression," commenting on why he chose this project and character.

He also emphasized the need for a well-defined characterization of Choi Yi Jae, who enters other people's bodies, ensuring the character's consistency amidst diverse circumstances. Collaborating extensively with the director, Seo In Guk recorded his performances during readings to build synchronization with other actors portraying Yi Jae.

With each of the 12 lives facing different circumstances, Death's Game promises a blend of high-octane thrill, melodrama, and exciting chase.

Based on the webtoon of the same name, “Death’s Game” tells the story of a man who gets more than one second chance at life after facing death. Park So Dam will play the role of Death, who sentences a man named Choi Yi Jae (Seo In Guk) to 12 cycles of life and death.

Lee Jae Wook will play the role of Jo Tae Sang, an aspiring MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter who winds up in prison.

In the newly released preview, Choi Yi Jae is alarmed by something he sees in prison after unexpectedly waking up in Jo Tae Sang’s body. Backing away in shock, he worries out loud, “Is that okay?”

However, he soon realizes that he’s in for bigger problems when someone tells him, “Worry about yourself instead.” Jo Tae Sang then turns to see eight of his fellow prison inmates waiting for him with weapons in hand. Startled, his friend rushes out of the room.

When he asks what’s going on, one of the prisoners responds, “They told us to make it so you can’t walk out of here on your own two legs on the day of your release.” Confused, Jo Tae Sang asks, “Who did?” and the prisoner smirks, “I think you’d know better than anyone who made that request.”

As Choi Yi Jae has just entered Jo Tae Sang’s body, he has no idea who the prisoner is referring to—but before he can figure it out, the prisoner charges at him after yelling, “Die!”

Fortunately, however, Jo Tae Sang is a skilled fighter, and he is impressively able to handle all eight men single-handed. After taking down all his enemies, he gets up and exclaims in awe, “Wow, this body is amazing!”

At the very end, Jo Tae Sang’s friend runs back into the room clutching a weapon before asking in surprise, “What? It’s over already?”

TVING has unveiled a new highlight teaser for its upcoming drama “Death’s Game”!

Based on the webtoon of the same name, “Death’s Game” tells the story of a man who gets more than one second chance at life after facing death. Park So Dam will play the role of Death, who sentences a man named Choi Yi Jae (Seo In Guk) to 12 cycles of life and death.

In addition to Seo In Guk and Park So Dam, the drama’s star-studded cast includes Kim Ji Hoon, Super Junior’s Choi Siwon, Sung Hoon, Kim Kang Hoon, Jang Seung Jo, Lee Jae Wook, Lee Do Hyun, Go Yoon Jung, Kim Jae Wook, Oh Jung Se, and more.

The teaser begins by announcing, “This is the story of a man who kept experiencing multiple deaths over and over.” A visibly miserable Choi Yi Jae goes on to reveal, “I wanted to die a clean death.”

However, Choi Yi Jae’s attempt at taking his own life insults Death, who has an unusual punishment in store for him. She pronounces, “Choi Yi Jae, from now on, you will die 12 times. And no matter what body you wake up in, you will die no matter what.” When Choi Yi Jae protests, Death laughs in his face.

But just when his plight seems entirely hopeless, Death offers him one way out—the chance to survive if he manages to change his fate. “Depending on your efforts, you might be able to find a different version of your ending,” she says.

The video goes on to offer sneak peeks of the various genres in store, from action to noir to romance. Death then asks, “Do you still think dying is the end? This is only the beginning.” Burning with determination, Choi Yi Jae declares, “I’ll show you that I can win.” Later, when he is in the body of prisoner Jo Tae Sang (Lee Jae Wook), he says, “What I learned while being trapped inside here is how to survive.”

The teaser ends with Choi Yi Jae exclaiming in excitement, “I just avoided death!”

"Death's Game" Stars Open up About Their Experiences at K-Drama's Press Conference

The upcoming TVING original series, Death's Game, is the story of Choi Yi Jae (Seo In Guk), a perennially unemployed man struggling in all spheres of life. He goes through the cycle of life and death 12 times as a punishment from Death (Park So Dam) after he takes his own life.

On the morning of December 13, the press conference for Death's Game was held in Seoul, which was attended by director Ha Byung Hoon, and actors Seo In Guk, Park So Dam, Kim Ji Hoon, Choi Si Won, Sung Hoon, Kim Kang Hoon, Jang Seung Jo, Lee Jae Wook, Go Youn Jung, Kim Jae Wook, and Kim Mi Kyung.

The K-drama has sent fans into a frenzy by gathering so many stars in one frame.

Bringing the actors together for the drama wasn't an easy feat, as director Ha Byung Hoon mentioned, "Every time we cast someone while working on the script, I thought about who would fit well, and undergo a transformation in acting."

The actors created different personas based on the character Choi Yi Jae. Balancing synchronization with Seo In Guk's portrayal of Yi Jae while maintaining their unique charms was a challenging task.

Actor Seo In Guk expressed, "I feel the pressure in every work and playing every character. Particularly in this work, many actors portrayed Choi Yi Jae's thoughts. I portrayed Choi Yi Jae first, so I grasped the character."

He further added, "In the post-production stage, I saw everyone put in their best efforts and did a great job. This is a character who experiences life and death 12 times, but before that, he is a character who had given up on his life. Along the way, he has desires and hopes and faces death in frustration. It was difficult to express such complex emotions, but I had fun filming."

Actress Park So Dam commented about her character, stating, "The [entity of] Death I portray is not human, yet connected to Yi Jae. While she empathizes with Yi Jae's emotions, she doesn't react immediately because she's not human."

Park So Dam was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in December 2021 and underwent surgery. In February of the following year, she announced her complete recovery.

Regarding her health, Park So Dam stated, "I think it has caused a lot of concern. Honestly, there were difficult moments during the recovery process. Those who have experienced similar pain would know. There were times when my emotional state or physical condition seemed really fine, but then [other times, they] worsened, and my voice didn't return to its original state. Many people helped me, and because it's something I want to do and love, I was able to gather the courage and wanted to do better."

Choi Si Won commented, "I had to consider other actors' performances as well. It was a mixed and new experience. The director gave detailed directions, which helped me navigate through well."

Kim Jae Wook added, "While it's important [for each actor] to build and express their respective characters, but, when reincarnating as Yi Jae, I had concerns about the Yi Jae's essence. I was most concerned about whether I could be seen as a character who has Yi Jae in him."
