THE MOST 'TOO STUPID TO LIVE' (TSTL) DRAMA CHARACTERS OF 2022 - NOMINEES

 

2022 was full of drama moments, and we also bring back the TOO STUPID TO LIVE-Characters category. In this section you will find the drama characters who stupefied viewers with their dumb actions that would result in (sometimes funny, sometimes sad) scenes that would show that their character would not survive in the real world. Or you as a viewer just wanted to shake your head at their antics...

Big Mouth - Go Mi Ho (Im Yoon A)

The wife of the leading man has a hard life, but her reckless actions make viewers unable to understand how she survived the perils of her husband becoming a fake criminal mastermind! Here you can see how she aims the fire distinguisher (to combat baddies) only on her own father and husband:

Gaus Electronics - Hae Young (Lee So Hee)

Girl wouldn't survive without her looks that attracts oppas like bees. Once she opens her mouth, though, she only uses third person for herself, not even realising that she does it.

All of Us Are Dead - Nam On Jo (Park Ji Hu)

Nam On Jo's role in this drama is to be the female lead. In this zombiefest, her actions are just detrimental and she focuses on her love life problems, instead of doing things for her survival.

Alchemy of Souls - Park Jin (Yu Jun Sang)

He may be a leader of the magic users in this drama, but he showed many times that he was not that bright after all. Here he also thinks his food is great, but actually it is quite opposite:

Love feat. Marriage and Divorce - Ghost of Grandpa

- if you have seen this drama, you'd know I don't have to explain this one. Here you can see the ghost even possessing his own grandchild! (at least he didn't go to the swimming pool to watch people there in this body..

Woori the Virgin - Oh Woo Ri (Lim Soo Hyang)

Woori'character is supposed to be an innocent woman who accidentally becomes pregnant. So far so good, as this plot has its origins in a Telenovela. However, Woo Ri's version is too naive and clumsy to survive this real life, viewers say, despite the help of her love interests!

Jinxed at First - Lee Seul Bi (Seohyun)

Her character is full of youth, full of inexperience, that other people have to handle her with care. Seul Bi even likes talking to the fish in the market (presumably for she eats them).

Thirty-Nine - Cha Mi Jo (Son Ye Jin)

Cha Mi Jo's character shows her in glamour in drama, the spotlight is on her, as the camera focuses on her grief of her friends' cancer diagnosis, instead of showing her support.

Now We're Breaking Up - Ha Yeung Eun (Song Hye Kyo)

A fashion designer whose designs are stolen just before an important event - what does she do? Not fire the person responsible! Her own love life is quite a mess as she is unable to let go, but she still tries to solve other people's cheating / affairs....

 Twenty Five - Twenty One - Moon Ji Woong (Choi Hyun Wook)

This is what Tv shows call a HIMBO (beautiful, but stupid kind of man). He tries to help his crush how to cheat, too (albeit they still become last places!) It's okay, we still love you, Moon Ji Woong!

My Liberation Notes - Yeom Gi Jeong (Lee El)

Gi Jeong has no filter, which makes her seem awkward in her every day life. In order to gain dates, she even wanted her brother and his friend to run into her with a motorbike to get her love interest's attention.

Tomorrow - Choi Joon Woong (Rowoon)

Choi Joon Woong is the rookie in the team, but his immature antics mostly contrast the rest of the team's superior skills, making him look... quite human in comparison. Often times he also manages to make the grimreapers angry, making it question, how does he survive?

Love is for Suckers - Park Jae Hoon (Choi Si Won) and Goo Yu Reum (Lee Da Hee)

These two friends have known each other for decades, and while both realized that they loved each other went out of their way to deny its existence and play hot and cold - until it became toxic.  By the end the audience wasn't even rooting for them anymore and hoped they wouldn't end up together.

Reborn Rich - Yoon Hyun Woo (Song Joong Ki)

This guy was reborn as a chaebol member, but he still was not able to help out his poor family, despite being able to amass riches by buying tech giant stock! I guess this might be why he was reborn again (so he has another chance....)

Eve - Kang Yoon Kyum (Park Byung-Eun)

 

This guys lusts for the FL since the start. Apparently he has had a sad childhood, horrible marriage and a child who wasn't potty trained. We also learnt that he's a PASSIONATE TANGO lover. Really!?!? Since his face had the same robotic facial expression for 16 episodes, we find it hard to believe.

Welcome to Wedding Hell - Kim Na Eun (Lee Yun Hee)

the preparation for this kind of wedding indeed was hell, so say the viewers who watch the drama and see how Na Eun never takes responsibility for her behaviour and never is honest with her fiancé or mother in law - no wonder that planning this wedding feels like hell

Alchemy of Souls: Go Won (Shin Seung-ho) - the trusted Crown Prince turned King with eyebrows that deserve their own show. And a turtle. Instead of a wife.

All of Us Are Dead - Lee Su-hyeok (Lomon) - used to be a bully, but his turning a leaf gives him mystery and charm for girls and drama viewers.

Big Mouth -  Gong Ji-hoons (Yang Kyung-won) - crazy bad guy who has the worst tantrums but loves playing cat and mouse games - is he on your side or not? You won't find out until you play with him.

These were dangerous times the Grand Prince lived in, but we loved the scene where he was painted in hanbok and presented with the painting that soothed his struggles of being hidden.

The Worst Drama Endings of 2022 - NOMINEES

 

In 2022 we saw the number of dramas aired increasing. Surely not all of them had the ending which would be considered good. So here we are with the list of dramas which had the worst ending. Of course bad ending doesn't mean the dramas were bad overall, there surely are some dramas which may have been very good overall, but then the writers somehow decided to mess up the ending. 

 

Please feel free to nominate dramas whose ending wasn't good in your opinion, tell us why you feel so about it, and we will add them to the list. 

 

Please Note: The spoilers below contain the brief description as to why the following dramas had bad ending, which of course would be major spoiler for these dramas. So in case you plan to watch the following dramas, and don't want to be spoiled for the ending, better not to open the spoiler 

 

Curtain Call

Nothing was explained about the real grandson. The only reason he came to meet to grandmother was to get money to save his wife, but nothing was revealed about his wife later on.

 

Big Mouth 

Spoiler

The ending was rushed, the drama literally just took 5 mins to end, and it didn't feel satisfying. FL died in vain, several characters like Jerry were underutilized. ML became the thing he didn't want to become initially, ultimate baddie was so invincible as the bad guy that he had to be literally killed in order to end things. Many unanswered questions left, many bad guys didn't face the consequences of their actions. 

 

Tomorrow

As the drama progressed one of the most popular aspects of the drama was the tragic love story between the FL and the 2nd ML. Their ending was bittersweet and didn't satisfy the audience who had been hoping to see the most epic love story ending.

 

Again My Life 

Spoiler

Last 2 eps felt like they were written by someone else. ML suddenly realizes he cannot punish the bad guy by law and decides to go against him in politics. Despite defeating the main bad guy, it is later revealed that most of his underlings got away and now serve a different boss. 

 

Reborn Rich 

Spoiler

After living YEARS as grandson of a chaebol, ML suddenly comes back to his original life in the current timeline. The rich grandson's story was already brought to an untimely end because of accident, and the final episode was rushed to have the bad guys punished. 

 

Eve

One of the most anticipated dramas of 2022 that boasted a stellar cast and marked the comeback of Seo Yea-ji, didn't seem to live up to its hype. The conclusion could be best described as open ended.

 

It was as if  the writers tried to compensate for the misguided love story between two leads who had zero chemistry but somehow too proud to admit it and change the course. The preposterous ‘suggestive’ ending where revenge became an afterthought was one of the reasons why viewers were disappointed, which is truly sad as it had some impressive moments in between. 

 

Unless you are a staunch supporter of the saying , 'The course of true love never did run smooth’, the ending was quite bizarre and totally forgettable.

 

Adamas

Almost all the main characters suddenly started acting out of character in the final few eps. The death of the Prosecutor ML twin was not really needed, and then the fact that they teased his didn't in the end made it worse. FL also suddenly became ambitious and actually became pretty similar to evil chairman. Most of the bad guys didn't face any consequences of their actions, especially the members of Team A.

 

Twenty Five Twenty One

Spoiler

The leads break up despite it being pretty clear to both of them that they were still in love with each other. Nothing is revealed about FL's husband, and also about ML. Showing FL still holding onto the past and her first love is something which was out of character for her too. 

 

Woori the Virgin 

Spoiler

The show being all over the place with the FL being like a table tennis ball between the ML (father of her baby) and the 2nd ML, finally settled for the 2nd ML. Many people felt that they butchered the original source and made it "too Korean".

 

Alchemy of Souls S1 

Spoiler

FL kills ML whom she was supposed to marry. She then proceeds to kill herself by jumping into a lake as the ML resurrects from the dead using an ice stone. The shocking ending left the audience with more questions than answers. Can you spell Hong sisters?

 

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) S3

Spoiler

Self-explanatory. The whole drama was a mess because of the writing. Also, we still can't get over the nekkid grandpa ghost... 

 

All of us are Dead 

Spoiler

Unnecessary sacrifices in the end for the survivors to survive, many sacrifices were actually not really needed. The way the half zombies were written and shown was rather inconsistent, we had 3 of them and all 3 of them seemed to be different. Not so smart decisions in the end by many.

 

Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area

While overall things ended well for the robbers, the fact that the Professor didn't have a plan B for the escape plan felt out of character, especially when he knew that the North Korean Detective could wake up in hospital anytime. The escape route "found by accident" also seemed pretty convenient for the robbers.

 

Little Women 

Spoiler

Jeongran Society's background wasn't explained well, despite it being the main organization against which the 3 sisters were trying to fight. Suddenly bringing in Eldest Sister's best friend alive felt rather rushed. The fact that the the sisters kept on openly going against the bad guys, especially the Middle Sister and still getting away throughout the drama made the writing a bit disappointing. 

 

Kiss Sixth Sense

The leads lose their super powers in the end, and are shown to be constantly fighting each other now even in public. The leads losing their powers also make them seem like different people than who they were previously.

 

Jinxed at First 

Spoiler

ML and childish FL finally meet again, but FL has lost all her memories of their past together. They get married but make the audience confused how she even fell in love with him and got married with him, if she couldn't remember him.

 

Love is for Suckers

Spoiler

Many viewers felt that they were the suckers for watching this drama. The leads were incredibly toxic and boring, and most people didn't even want them to end up together in the end. Well they did. The only reason why some liked the ending was because of the 2nd lead couple (webtoon writer and Chef John) who were so sugary sweet that we couldn't help but root for them. We totally want a second season focusing only on the 2nd lead couple.

I was really impressed by grandpa's character. Not agree with him on any ground, fining him old-fashioned and a little bit crud, but he was a man who of confidence, of the will to fight and make his world the way he wanted. Or it's what I've got from six episodes (five to be honest, he wasn't long in the first one) I've saw. Still voted for him for the creation and the complexity of being a human being.

I actually separated the ending of the drama from the ending of the main couples story. Where the later is disappointing and really annoying for the wait and broken promises from the writers (a cheap move), the ending of the drama wasn't bad. Would even say that is was a fitting one. 

 

I actually voted for none in two categories (the only two, three characters that annoyed me wasn't that bad in general, so didn't have heart to vote for them in this category, and I didn't watched until the end for the other two dramas that were listed, so...).

 

But I could voted for grandpa and PJG, and that's a good reason to happy today.

I'm happy I'm not the only one who voted SJK of Reborn rich as one of the too stupid to live characters  and well, he was too stupid to live so he got two further chances!

 

 

But this guy stole my heart. He needs to win some kind of award for this masterful performance. Yeah, Granpa really was a hard character to sympathise with, considering he is super rich and powerful - but the way he was portrayed did make him the main star of the show. I haven't ever seen such a good rich person portrayal in a long, long time. He was larger than life - but the actor also showed him as a human.

While I did choose 5 in most memorable, it really only comes down to 2 who are head and shoulders above the rest ...

 

1) Female Most Memorable - Seo Hye Won

 

 

Seo Hye Won was just too adorable in Business Proposal   I really wish they'd make a spin-off with her role as lead. 

... and I still haven't quite finished crying over poor So I in AoS Pt 2

 

 

2) Male Most Memorable - Lee Soo Hyuk

This pretty much says it all - How do you create such a powerfully awesome character and then not use them?  Such a waste.

While I also voted for 5 of the worst endings, the top of my list may not actually be the worst. I seldom binge entire drama's but when I do, and they come apart in the very end - like Kiss Sixth Sense - they will rise to the top of this list every time    Twenty Five Twenty One runs a close second here.

Guy with choking fetish, who steal literally every scene he was in, even if the total minutes of his appearance could be counted on two hands. I really liked him and find his story line to be wasted. The potential of PJG! 

 

I can't remember who on the drama thread said that oppa could choke them anytime he wanted to. That's how powerful his role was.

In all seriousness, I haven't shipped a drama couple this much in 10 years - and judging from the amount of videos and gifs online of them, they are probably one of the most popular couples of 2022. Even though their joint story was just short snippets in each episode. Half of the time just staring at each other.

He was such an unexpected character and brought a lot of humor to the show.

 

For worst endings, I didn't watch any of those dramas, but I voted based on what I'd heard others ranting about: Big Mouth, 25/21, Tomorrow.

 

For TSTL, it's gotta be Hae Young from Gaus Electronics - I still don't understand why any guy would go out with her.

 

And Gi Jung in My Liberation Notes was very endearing by the end, but the way she put her foot in her mouth ALL the time was so cringe-worthy and hilarious. Time-stamped:

My fault for choosing only one for all, I missed the 5 part.  
Reborn Rich grandfather carried the show in many episodes, he is one versatile actor. Of course, the catwalk model Grim Reaper, I would slow down his scenes if there were the SLD button. 
EA Woo has so many delightful characters, too bad we could only have one. The other female rookie lawyer who covers for EA Woo, the unlikeable lawyer whom she ends up liking ...

 

I like the ending for Eve. 

The guy had put up with his crazy murderous wife for years, contributing immeasureable sadness to others, though his ending was too violent, they had to kill off the psycho wife and he's the only one to do it. Eve was a vengeful woman - that is bad in the moral sense- so she can't live happily ever after. There will always be that emptiness in her heart. So it is a karmic ending, excellent , unlike the utterly ridiculous Reborn Rich.
 

The man-boy who denied the rapacious uncles, aunts and cousins from owning the corporation was just some figment in the brain of a wronged man, with a bullet wound to his head. DJ was with us for 2/3 of the show and he died while HW who did not change anything for 2/3 of the show got to pick up where DJ left off.
What kind of reincarnation is that? Transmogrification? Transmutation? It is just less ludicrous than Bobby Ewing being dead for a year and it was just a dream. Only oldies who remember Dallas will know this part.
 

That of course carries us to too stupid to live. Hyoon Woo. But I prefer 'undeserving' here.

Can I vote again? I'd just found "the candidate" to the worst ending...

 

Time travel/reincarnation story turned out to be some dream and whatever happens in the story so far wasn't happen, but it still matter and everyone behaves like they actually where private to that dream events.

And If you are lucky enough to get one, Thank Your Lucky stars, he was also responsible for shaping WYW the way the flourished in Professional Life. I demand a PART2 Where He STARTS His Own Startup and takes down the Rest Biggies...also take his team with him - the Frustrated Annoying Dude.(Min WOo> forgot the name)

Worst Drama Ending- Big Mouth....

 

TSTL Character Controversial but why is Lee Seul Bi nominated lol, I mean she was almost designed as equal to Shim Cheong from Legend of the blue sea....a person who never saw the Land World and then improved accordingly. I am not sure why she was stupid but Super Moooody Yes lol.I would rather nominate the Editor and the people around that market instead lol...for the TIME WASTE Plot!

After a long time I opened Soompi. Did not watch much dramas last year. Out of the dramas that I watched I loved My Liberation Notes, Through the darkness and Juvenile Justice. And my favorite character would be Yeom Chang Hee from MLN. Although I relate to Yeom Mi Jeong the most, followed by Gu Ja Gyeong.

The worst one was Grid. I sacrificed my sleep for that but what a letdown it turned out to be. And all the characters turned out to be stupid in Grid.
