Soompi Forums Awards: The Best K-Dramas of 2022 - Poll #1

 

Dearest chingus,

 

Another year has passed and 2023 has started. Before we jump into all the new wonderful dramas 2023 has to offer, let's take a look back at 2022.

 

Which k-dramas did you enjoy the most in 2022?

 

If 2021 aired 120 dramas, 2022 managed to increase the amount even further. More than 130 dramas aired!

Once again, due to technical limitation on this forum, we can only include 57 dramas in a poll. Unfortunately we have had to leave out dramas with the lowest ratings and/or shortest threads on Soompi. So we apologize if your favorite drama isn't included.

This poll includes both prime time dramas that aired on Korean TV networks, as well as, the most popular streaming dramas.

 

Daily & weekend dramas, the 19 best of the rest k-dramas and c-dramas will be included in Poll#2. Link here. (launching on Tue 10/01)

Your favorite characters, worst endings and most Too Stupid To Live characters of 2022 will be included in Poll#3. Link here. (launching on Wed 11/01)

 

Also, only dramas that ENDED in 2022 are included in the poll.

I can't believe there were 130 dramas and...... I only managed to finish 2. 

I won't even say I liked the 2 I finished. but just that I managed to get through them. 

5 dramas were dropped - they weren't bad but they didn't hold my interest after the midway point. kept thinking I will go back to finish but never did.

so altogether I checked out 7/130 = 5% of dramas that aired only. 

kdrama slump indeed!

- While the ending was a little rushed, it was thought provoking, beautifully shot, and well cast. 

 

- At only 6 episodes, I binged it over 2 nights

it is amazing thay you can remember which drama you finished. I still need to think which Kdrama /Cdrama I finished.

I have the same problem as you! hahahahha.. these days I keep track on MDL. otherwise, I would forget as well. even the dramas I did check out were so forgettable that they all are a blur in my memory....

Gosh, I can't believe myself that I've only watched 3 dramas out of the full list in the poll?? I wasn't myself in last 2 years because of my father's chronic illness. Hope we have more good dramas this year!

 

The only drama I dropped last year is One Dollar Lawyer... Where's my Daniel oppa's dramas, anyway?? He had 2 dramas last year, with only one drama aired on tv...

You should see the number of dramas I dropped in 2022 - like 3 times as many as I actually finished. How many do you have on your list?

 

I feel like lately quality has been overtaken by quantity when it comes to kdramas.

I knew you would ask this. Unfortunately your oppa's drama had so low ratings that it didn't qualify to be included in this poll.

130 dramas and I managed to finish two, one being a disappointment in a certain plotline (Tomorrow)

and the other actually pretty good (King of Pigs).

 

The rest I voted those I'd managed to see more than the first episode (usual until the 6-7, mid-season breaks and all).

 

And one that got credits because I wanted to watch it, and still trying to start. I think in was in the heat of the moment.

 

I wasn't very fruitful year for k-dramas to me, sadly...

Definitely something's there. There are many that has a good start, then drop the quality, but still manageable, but after the mid-season just... turn bad. If they even get tot this point. It's like there is: cast, the hype, the popularity (based on novel, webtoon, or the second season), and looooooong break before the plot.

Wasn't this the barf drama about some married dude with a mistress? I was planning on watching it because of the barf element (am a Thai lakorn barf drama junkie), but saw a lot of negative reviews about it.

Please tell me what was good about it - wouldn't mind adding it on my watchlist.

That Park Joong Gil and Ryeon didn't get a happy ending with each other. If there was one thing that I had wanted, it was that they would reconcile. It was too cruel to separate them forever.

 

Look at this couple:

 

Perfect visuals! Amazing chemistry! Such a waste of my time that we didn't get the ultimate romance

Can we please get a drama with just the two of them?

 

Also, Lee Soo Hyuk oppa's role was more like a cameo than a supporting actor's. He was probably the most popular character in the whole drama, and we only got snippets of him. Look at how awesome he was:

 

 

I can reveal that Park Joong Gil is included as one of the most memorable characters of 2022 in our poll #3 (which is launching on Wednesday). If you loved Park Joong Gil, make sure to come back then.

Basically the same, but more for the part that PJG was an episodic character and the most he was on screen he chocked someone. So wasted potential...

I liked all of these for different reasons, but probably Gaus Electronics and Our Blues were the best of this bunch. Gaus was so quirky and funny.

 

 

Everyone in Our Blues did an amazing job.

 

 

And My Liberation Notes was also good, with a super cute couple:

 

 

 

In 2022 I started and dropped:

Now We are Breaking Up (just couldn't get into the main couple)

Big Mouth (too bloody and intense; I couldn't eat and watch at the same time )

Gaus Electronics was hands down my favorite drama of 2022. Such a funny and different type of show! Writers, THIS is how you adapt a webtoon into a drama.

 I agree the quality of drama are flat due to the storyline being repetitive. I think most drama's start off strong but instead of giving the story a bit of structure, it would have a better outcome. 

Like Blind kdrama  - - > The story tried to keep the realism in the drama but the antagonist character wasn't in the same page, each had their own vendeta and in the end they no longer trusted each other. They wanted Justice but Justice wasn't given for the mistreatment of the the orphans.

Adamas - - - > I was watching but lost interest and can't even give you a solid reason why 

 

Show Windows : Queen's House  I loved loved this drama because the ending was EPIC. The writer kept the realism in the drama left me very satisfied. The acting was EPIC, the cinematopography was EPIC. If you watch the first episode , you will know if you want to continue watching the rest.

The character started like a strong option with a good background and interesting concept, but turned out to be stupidly naive (like "I want revenge and try the undercover, but will tell everyone about it and still be surprised that someone actually knew"), or just boring (didn't get further than 5 episode, so can't tell how happened next).

Watched only a first episode, either wasn't in a mood or it was not my kind of humor, but, gosh, that was one of the best secondhand embarrassment feeling I've got for a long time (from only one episode!).
