Yoon Kye-sang evades Park Sung-hoon on the Day of Kidnapping

by solstices

2wmdW7_2f.jpg

I am so hyped for this cast! ENA’s upcoming thriller Day of Kidnapping has released its script reading stills, featuring the key players in this suspenseful tale. Based off a novel of the same name by Jung Hae-yeon, the drama promises to deliver a blend of mystery and dark humor that will keep us on our toes.

Yoon Kye-sang (Kiss Sixth Sense) stars as the amateur kidnapper Kim Myung-joon. Unable to afford his dearest daughter’s hospital bills, Myung-joon is desperate enough to do anything for money. That’s where his ex-wife Seo Hye-eun — played by Kim Shin-rok (Reborn Rich) — comes into the picture. Returning after three years, she immediately clocks Myung-joon’s dire situation, then offers him a solution. Why not kidnap a child and demand a ransom?

Tempted by the thought of all the cash he could receive, Myung-joon winds up kidnapping the precocious 11-year-old Choi Ro-hee, played by the child actor Yoo-na (Green Mothers’ Club). However, Myung-joon’s plans only ever amount to 98% — his bleeding heart means he’s always falling two percent short of becoming a ruthless criminal.

When an unexpected accident leads to Ro-hee losing her memory, Myung-joon winds up taking her in and caring for her, leading the pair to form a peculiar sort of camaraderie. That only gets reinforced when suspicion falls on Myung-joon as a potential murder suspect — now, the unlikely duo must work together to clear Myung-joon’s name.

Chasing them down is Park Sung-hoon (The Glory) as Park Sang-yoon, a detective specializing in missing persons cases. With his analytical mind and swift decision-making, Sang-yoon is determined to solve the case and rescue Ro-hee. But as he draws closer to the truth, he’ll encounter a secret that will shake the foundation of everything he once knew.

Amongst the supporting cast, we have the security personnel Kim Sang-ho (Bad Prosecutor), the neurosurgeon Seo Jae-hee (Reborn Rich), and the fund manager Kang Young-seok (Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist 2) — yay, I’m especially excited to see that last name on the list! With so much secrecy surrounding these characters and their motives, the drama seems more than ready to thrill me.

Helmed by PD Park Yoo-young (A Model Family, Kingdom) with scripts written by Kim Jae-young (Cheese in the Trap), Day of Kidnapping is slated to premiere in the latter half of this year.

ENA's upcoming series, The Day of the Kidnapping (directed by Park Yoo Young, and written by Kim Je Young) unveiled stills from its script reading session.

The K-drama tells the story of Kim Myung Joon, a warm-hearted but financially struggling man, who is desperate to raise money for his daughter's surgery. It is during this time that his ex-wife proposes a drastic solution: kidnapping a child from a wealthy family. Driven by desperation, Kim Myung Joon reluctantly agrees to her suggestion.

However, as he tries to abduct Choi Ro Hee, he accidentally hits a young girl, who happens to be Choi Ro Hee herself. And to his surprise, Choi Ro Hee has lost her memory.

Yoon Kye-sang cries onions for ENA’s Day of Kidnapping

by tccolb

A cute first poster and video teaser have dropped for ENA’s black comedy and thriller Day of Kidnapping, showcasing our story’s odd buddy duo with a bumbling Yoon Kye-sang (Kiss Sixth Sense) and a young but sharp-witted Yoo-na (Green Mothers’ Club).

Adapted from a popular novel by the same title, our soft-hearted hero Kim Myung-joon (Yoon Kye-sang) is a desperate man in need of money to pay for his daughter’s hospital bills. Upon his ex-wife’s prodding, Myung-joon thus agrees to kidnap Ro-hee (Yoo-na) for ransom money. But as we see from the new promos, he’s not quite cut out for the hardened criminal life.

The teaser opens on what looks like a sinister scene, with lights flickering in a darkened room where a young girl sits crying. A frustrated Myung-joon then takes his knife to the cutting board, but it’s quickly revealed that he’s also shedding tears. In the intermittent text screens, we read: “A tearjerker scene about kid care and not kidnapping!”

We then see that there’s a growing bowl of freshly sliced onions on the table and our pair both complain that it’s making their eyes burn. But before Ro-hee can stop him, Myung-joon adds the full bowl’s contents to the pot. When she questions the amount of onions, Myung-joon pauses awkwardly to remember the recipe. An incredulous Ro-hee orders him to take them out and we close as Myung-joon scrambles to save the stew.

Although not yet featured, the series also stars Park Sung-hoon (Not Others) as the police detective on Myung-joon’s tail, while Kim Shin-rok (Shadow Detective 2) takes on the role of Myung-joon’s ex-wife.

On the production side, directing is helmed by PD Park Yoo-young (A Model Family) with scripts penned by Kim Je-young (Cheese in the Trap, the film). Slated to air in the Wednesday-Thursday slot following Longing for You, ENA’s Day of Kidnapping premieres on September 13.

The production team of the upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama The Day of the Kidnapping released the third teaser on August 21st. The teaser showcases the unique relationship between an inept kidnapper Kim Myung Joon and the genius girl Choi Ro Hee, who disguise themselves as a father-daughter pair.

The Day of the Kidnapping is a comedy thriller that tells the story of Kim Myung Joon (Yoon Kye Sang), an inept kidnapper, and Choi Ro Hee (Yu Na), an 11-year-old genius girl. Based on a novel by author Jung Hae Yeon, the drama strikes a delicate balance between comedy and mystery.

The lineup of talented actors includes Yoon Kye SangPark Sung HoonYu NaKim Shin RokKim Sang HoSeo Jae Hee, and Kang Young Seok, among others.

Yoon Kye Sang takes on the role of the inept kidnapper Kim Myung Joon. Planning a kidnapping to cover his daughter's medical expenses, he becomes entangled in an incident and is pursued as a murder suspect. Yu Na plays the role of Choi Ro Hee, a brilliant girl suffering from memory loss. With her cynical attitude and extraordinary intellect, Choi Ro Hee forms an unlikely bond with Kim Myung Joon.

The third teaser draws viewers' attention to the stark contrast between Kim Myung Joon, who doesn't have a shred of similarity with Ro Hee in terms of age, personality, and intelligence. Kim Myung Joon, with his clumsiness and foolish actions, is juxtaposed against the exceptional brilliance and intelligence of Choi Ro Hee, emphasizing their intriguing mismatch.

Especially intriguing are the reversed character dynamics, where it's unclear who is the adult and who is the child. The scene where Ro Hee realizes her and Kim Myung Joon's true identities and hands him a self-written agreement, saying, "Swear. Promise you won't kill me", amplifies curiosity about the unexpected alliance formed between them. Likewise, Ro Hee's awkward smile and response, "He's my dad" when asked, "What's your relationship?" adds to the intrigue. The fact that Ro Hee hides even the identity of her kidnapper and collaborates with him raises questions about their story.

The humorous bickering and banter between Kim Myung Joon and Ro Hee, sometimes like family and other times like friends, also invokes laughter. From their first encounter, where Ro Hee not only doesn't back down but gains the upper hand over Kim Myung Joon, to her consecutive attacks using her witty retorts and sharp criticisms, she shows dominance.

Tune in for the premiere of The Day of the Kidnapping on September 13th. Watch the teaser here
