Regarding the drama, Minho commented, “‘The Fabulous’ unravels the realistic concerns that all youth experience through the topic of fashion. The extravagant visuals obviously add to the fun of watching, but while watching the story of those who push forward even when hit and shaken up, I think this is a project with a lot of aspects that viewers can immerse into through their own experiences. I ask for your enthusiastic support.”

The Fabulous: Episode 1 (First Impressions)

by DaebakGrits

https://www.dramabeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/TheFabulous1_00.jpg

With a title like The Fabulous, one would hope that Netflix’s foray into the romance genre and the world of high-end fashion would live up to its name. Visually — from the wardrobes to the camera angles — it delivers, but our first episode also introduces us to a cast of flawed characters that may or may not win you over.

Editor’s note: This is an Episode 1 review only. For a place to chat about the entire drama with rampant spoilers, visit the Drama Hangout!

EPISODE 1 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

As someone who has watched a fair number of Project Runway marathons and dabbled in designing and sewing my own clothes, I was eager for Netflix to drop this K-drama original. I wanted to like it. I really, really did, but I think I’m too much of a romantic purist to fully enjoy the premiere episode of this particular story, which begins with our leading lady PYO JI-EUN (Chae Soo-bin) waking up after a one-night stand — with a man who isn’t her current boyfriend.

Now, we don’t immediately know this little tidbit of information, of course, but Ji-eun’s face when she wakes up naked in some to-be-determined man’s bed indicates that she’s not happy with her recent decisions. And in order to know exactly how she ended up in her current predicament, we rewind to the night before — when she attended her friend JOSEPH’s (Lee Sang-woon) fashion show. There, Ji-eun bumps into her ex-boyfriend JI WOO-MIN (Min-ho).

If the palpable sexual tension between them isn’t enough of a clue that he’s the man she’s going to end up shagging at the end of the night, then the shirt he’s wearing — which is very recognizable as being one of the discarded items of clothing on the floor from our opening scene — is another sign of what’s to come. But then, of course, to make things sticky, Ji-eun’s boyfriend arrives on the scene. She has to introduce her boyfriend to Woo-min, explaining that her ex is totally just a friend. That’s all. Nothing to worry about. (Cue: my extremely knowing and judgmental side-eye.)

Meanwhile, Joseph’s runway show is almost as much of a catastrophe as Ji-eun’s awkward backstage encounter. The night starts off rough, when his introduction to iconic fashion editor AHN NAM-HEE (Choi Hee-jin) is rudely interrupted by stylist HONG JI-SEON (Lee Mi-do), a member of Nam-hee’s entourage who keeps chiming in with her unsolicited negative opinions of Joseph’s collection. And then the show ends in disaster when a pissed off rookie model pulls the plug — literally — on his runway, causing the stage to go dark right before he’s to make his curtain call. The one bright side of the whole event is that his lead model and bestie YE SEON-HO (Park Hee-jung) absolutely slays her water siren look — even if it seems more inspired by a jellyfish, in my opinion.

After all that drama, Joseph is understandably in a mood, so Ji-eun and the rest of their quartet drink and have a “ride or die” night to cheer him up. They all hit the dance floor, where Woo-min’s shirt comes off, and the alcohol, music, lights, and dancing act as an aphrodisiac. The sexual tension builds between Ji-eun and Woo-min until they move things to his place, and once they’re alone, Ji-eun asks, “Is it ok for us to do this?” In response, Woo-min brings her in for a kiss, breaking the string of pearls around her neck that were a gift from her deceased mother. (Hello, symbolism.)

The next morning, after picking up her broken pearls, Ji-eun takes a walk of shame to the restaurant where she’s supposed to meet her boyfriend for brunch. He’s calm and collected, and his quiet disinterest unnerves Ji-eun to the point that she over-explains her whereabouts the night before, unintentionally digging her own grave. If her boyfriend notices her suspicious behavior, though, he doesn’t acknowledge it. Instead he breaks up with her because, well, she talks too much about fashion, and he wants a partner who can converse with him about topics more aligned with his own interests.

  • larus changed the title to [Current Drama 2022] The Fabulous,더 패뷸러스-Chae Soo Bin & Choi Minho- Friday-

Joesph's mom plays his childhood dance video when he was 10 to cheer him up and says, when she saw him dancing in the video she knew the son is gay even though he was a small kid. how much stupid one could get? How can a kid be a gay? What kind of writers are writing these shows?

Park ji eun is quite a badly written character. So her new bf dumps her and when he approachs her 2nd time after leaving her and he hasn't even said anything significant, prolly only called her name and she tells him are you like this because you lived in usa for a while in an insulting tone. So 90pc kpop songs are made by sampling american pop music or buying out demo versions of hit american singles or remixing them, kdramas are filled with english words, references to american fashion brands, hollywood is considered ultimate dream but america is constantly insulted over things that re not even considere bad in rest of the world. And while she is telling him she herself not only meets her ex but also sleeps with him.

Her model friend's behavior towards her designer boyfriend was quite unprofessional. But also a fact he was extremely rude to her but the amazing female lead tells her after the incident that it's totally your fault and even drags her to his place to apologize. It's better to have enemies than such dumbazz friends.

Female lead gets super angry that her best friend's designer bf is cheating on her, when she herself cheats on her bf and sleeps with her ex while still being in a relationship with him, and she has the audacity to vandalize that designer's house by throwing a massive rock. Is she for real. Also who reacts like this, is she 8 years old. Both make and female leads can not act.

SHINee’s Minho Talks About Acting Challenges For “The Fabulous,” Key’s Message After Watching, And More

SHINee’s Minho Talks About Acting Challenges For “The Fabulous,” Key’s Message After Watching, And More

SHINee’s Minho took some time to sit down and talk all about his newest drama series “The Fabulous.”

“The Fabulous” is a drama series about the work, passion, romance, and friendships of young men and women who have thrown themselves into the fashion industry. It portrays their struggles to survive in the competitive fashion world and their flamboyant and passionate daily lives in the nation’s trendiest industry.

In this series, Minho stars as Ji Woo Min, a freelance photographer who has the perfect visuals, talent, and fashion sense but lacks passion for what he does. He is joined by Lee Sang Woon, Park Hee Jeong, and Chae Soo Bin, the latter of whom takes on the role of Ji Woo Min’s long-time friend and ex.

In talking about the extremely important kiss scene between his character and Chae Soo Bin’s, Minho commented, “That was the most intense kiss scene I’ve ever done. I had already read the script, and since then I had been really nervous while preparing for filming.”

“Fortunately, Chae Soo Bin was very kind and understanding while we were filming,” he added, sure to give praise where it was due to his co-star. He also noted that this scene took around four or five hours to film, with no corners being cut as the crew prepared a very elaborate and detailed set.

About his relationship with Chae Soo Bin, Minho described how it was a priority for them to become close in order to properly portray the complex relationship between their two characters.

“In order to portray those ambiguous feelings [that come from being friends and exes], I felt that we needed to get close and learn each other’s styles. At first, it was a bit awkward, and we were shy around one another, but we made an effort to get close.” He gives a lot of credit to the drama’s director, Kim Jung Hyun, who did most of the talking to get the ball rolling and make it so that everyone was comfortable around one another. Luckily, it seems that the two actors were able to overcome their initial bashfulness and go on to give amazing performances.

“The Fabulous” is Minho’s first romantic-comedy series since entering his thirties, and he noted how he put effort into focusing on the different emotions and aspects he was able to portray well.

While viewers all around the world are getting immersed in “The Fabulous,” it appears that fellow SHINee member Key also binge-watched the series after its premiere!

“I got a message directly from Key,” Minho said. “Just out of the blue one morning, he [sent me a message] saying ‘Who’s the director?’ So I told him who the director was and asked him, ‘Did you like it? Why?’ I didn’t get a reply after that, and I kept wondering to myself why he asked such a thing. I still don’t know the reason.”

“I don’t know if he wants to be in Kim Jung Hyun’s next project or what reasoning he had to ask, but it’s odd that he asked about the director,” he said with a laugh. “He still hasn’t read my message. He’s always been like that. He hasn’t sent replies for over 10 years,” he added.

“The Fabulous” is now streaming on Netflix.

Chae Soo Bin Dishes On Her Role In “The Fabulous,” Working With SHINee’s Minho, Her Acting Career, And More

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

Dec 30, 2022
by AliG

In a recent interview, Chae Soo Bin the time to delve into her new drama “The Fabulous” and the many stories that came from working on the drama!

“The Fabulous” is a drama series about the work, passion, romance, and friendships of young men and women who have thrown themselves into the fashion industry. It portrays their struggles to survive in the competitive fashion world and their flamboyant and passionate daily lives in the nation’s trendiest industry.

Chae Soo Bin takes on the role of Pyo Ji Eun, the manager of a PR agency for luxury brands. She stars opposite of SHINee‘s Minho who plays freelance photographer Ji Woo Min. The two characters are friends but also exes, sharing a relationship that is founded on a very deep understanding of one another after having been through so much. With Ji Woo Min, Pyo Ji Eun maintains a friendship that also borders on something romantic, leaving viewers to wonder just what exactly will come of this complex relationship.

“Filming was so much fun, and it was great to be able to watch the series one year [after filming],” she said as she looked back on her time on set. “I feel like we were filming just yesterday, so I’m not sure how time passed so quickly. It was like taking a trip down memory lane. I had such a great time watching it,” she added.

When asked about her first impression of Minho, she revealed, “His eyes are so big,” were her first thoughts. “I think Minho is a person who is famous for having a lot of passion. To be honest, Ji Woo Min is a rather cynical character, so I was curious as to how he would pull off the role. But after actually filming and watching the show, I think Minho portrayed the character in a much more three-dimensional way,” she said. She also praised her fellow actor as being very kind and considerate and someone she had wanted to work with on a project.

Delving more into the relationship between their two characters, both Chae Soo Bin and Minho were in agreement that exes couldn’t really continue as friends after being in such an intimate relationship. “Do exes really have to proceed as friends afterwards? I’m not saying it can never happen or that it’s impossible, but I don’t think it’s something that has to happen,” she explained. “Between Pyo Ji Eun and Ji Woo Min, one of them still has feelings, so there is a relationship that is possible. But I think that if there are no lingering feelings, then there’s no need to try and hold onto that thread.”

When talking about her own character, Chae Soo Bin reflected on the differences between her real life and Pyo Ji Eun’s life that is filled with demanding work, noting that the difference between them lies in how often they are recognized and praised for their hard work. “I am in a position where I must show results after many staff help me prepare, but Ji Eun is a character who works in the transitional phase and doesn’t receive any spotlight. I thought to myself that it must really not be easy for her.”

She explained how Pyo Ji Eun’s line, “It’s okay if people don’t know what I do because at least I know how much I love my work,” really resonated with her, saying that it is a line that best represents her character and is something she could learn from. “I think that being a celebrity is also a line of work that receives a lot of judgement,” she said. “There are people who will say they like it and people who say they don’t, but I think it’s important not to let such judgements sway you or dominate you,” she explained.

But Chae Soo Bin’s acting talents aren’t just reserved for the small screen. She has also been taking the stage for theater productions including “The Student and Mister Henri” and “Shakespeare in Love.”

“The charms of plays, dramas, and films are distinctly different,” she explained. “In the case of plays, I feel like there’s a lot to study when it comes to plays. You’re repeating the same scenes countless times while going up on stage and collaborating with others, and as you repeat it over a couple months, the feelings are always different. Then there’s the fact that you’re directly interacting with the audience. So I feel like I am studying a lot, and that’s why I’ve continued doing theater acting.” In regards to films and dramas, she commented on how she is able to self-monitor, with her own observations and inner thoughts becoming her method of study.

Although she is a seasoned professional in acting, Chae Soo Bin won’t be calling it quits anytime soon. “Acting in itself is so enjoyable, and I hope to be able to greet the public in more diverse roles and projects in the future,” she said determinately. “Up until now, I’ve mainly played roles that are very bright, energetic, and full of vitality, so I hope to be able to find a project where I can show a different side [of myself],” she added.

I liked the drama, there are parts I didn't agree with so much but I think overall it's a good drama.
Chae Soobin did an excellent job of expressing the emotions of her character.:)
Choi Minho did too, although I would have liked to see more about his story and his way of thinking. It is unfortunate that Netflix has deleted several of his scenes in the drama and is just sharing them now on his social networks. (Why Netflix you edited out these scenes, why..? <_<)
I would also have wanted to know more about the reasons why both protagonists ended up, I think the director or editor should have thought of some way to give a better explanation to that part, taking into account that they were the main characters.

Abouth Josepth and Seonho I loved their characters, both actors did an amazing job  playing their characters.

In general I loved the friendship of Ji Woomin, Pyo Jieun, Josepth and Seonho. I would like to have a group of friends like them.

Also I can not forget Thierry Henry. The actor did a good job portraying his character.:)

Well all "The Fabulous team" did an amazing job. I believed in everything they wanted to transmit through the screen, there were moments that I cried and laughed because of them.

If anyone wants to enjoy a light and fresh drama I think you will enjoy it. ^_^
