MBC’s upcoming Friday-Saturday drama starring Im Soo Hyang and Kim Jung Hyun shared a look at the drama’s script reading!

“Kkokdu’s Gye Jeol” (literal title, also meaning “The Season of Kkokdu”) is a fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kkokdu who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. Kkokdu meets Han Gye Jeol, a doctor with mysterious abilities, and starts working as a visiting doctor.

Directors Baek Soo Chan and Kim Ji Hoon and scriptwriters Kang Yi Heon and Heo Joon Woo were present at the script reading along with actors Kim Jung Hyun, Im Soo Hyang, Dasom, An Woo Yeon, Kim In Kwon, Cha Chung Hwa, and more.

Prior to the start of the script reading, director Baek Soo Chan warmly greeted the team, saying, “I’m very honored to be here,” while director Kim Ji Hoon mentioned the great synergy from the cast even though it was their first meeting and commented, “The team atmosphere is so good.”

In his role as Kkokdu, Kim Jung Hyun immediately caught everyone’s attention with his dynamic acting. Kkokdu is the eccentric god of the underworld who angered the Creator. With his playful tone during bickering scenes with Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang) and contrasting powerful charisma when he punishes an evil person as the grim reaper, Kim Jung Hyun reliably led the reading.

Im Soo Hyang will play Han Gye Jeol, a skillful doctor with a mysterious ability that only works on Kkokdu. Im Soo Hyang terrifically portrayed the dramatic emotional changes that her character experiences as she became entangled with the grim reaper Kkokdu who has entered a human body. Viewers are curious to see what will happen between the two and what kind of story will they present.

 

On the other hand, Dasom nailed her portrayal as the golden girl Tae Jung Won with her aloof speaking tone and subtle cute charm, while An Woo Yeon, who plays the role of detective Han Chul, showed his diverse acting spectrum by making mischievous faces when he’s in front of his big sister Han Gye Jeol yet turning into a fiery detective who can’t tolerate injustice when he’s in his workplace.

“Kkokdu’s Gye Jeol” (literal title, also meaning “The Season of Kkokdu”) is a fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kkokdu (Kim Jung Hyun) who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. Kkokdu meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, and starts working as a visiting doctor.

 

Kim Jung Hyun will be taking on two roles in this new drama: the grim reaper Kkokdu and Do Jin Woo, a surgical professor at Pilsung Hospital. Kkokdu is the sole grim reaper in charge of leading humans to the underworld, and he despises their fickleness and weak nature. However, there was once a time long ago when Kkokdu himself was a human, but he has forgotten his identity and who he had been waiting for after his death. As he falls deep into a grudge, he earns himself the anger of the Creator and is given the punishment of dealing with the whining of humans and carrying out their own punishments.

 

The newly released photos focus on Kkokdu’s fierce and fiery gaze as he carries out the punishment of the deceased, and viewers can feel an immeasurable amount of anger coming from him as he is forced to repeat a horrendous fight every day of his existence. In another image, Kkokdu can be seen wearing the attire of a warrior. His general aura remains unchanged, but there is also a certain loneliness draped over his entire being, making viewers wonder who exactly Kkokdu used to be and what made him come to carry such a terrible grudge.

 

 

Then there is Do Jin Woo, the youngest executive director at Pilsung Hospital and the man Kkokdu has come to possess. Do Jin Woo is a skilled and highly revered doctor, but after being involved in an unexpected medical accident, he must go about life hiding his festering wounds behind a carefully crafted mask. As he works to uncover the truth with Han Gye Jeol, a doctor with no background qualifications, he comes to be possessed by Kkokdu, who brings snow with him in the middle of summer.

“Kokdu: Season of Deity” is a fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kokdu (Kim Jung Hyun) who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. Kokdu meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, and starts working as a visiting doctor.

 

The newly released stills capture Han Gye Jeol’s various appearances going back and forth between her current and past lives. In the stills below, Han Gye Jeol wears a doctor’s gown, taking a breather in the middle of a busy day. Even during such a tough and busy day, she smiles brightly, allowing viewers to feel her passion as an emergency physician who will not hesitate to run to wherever the patient is.

 

 

In another still, Han Gye Jeol is wearing a hanbok (Korean traditional clothing), giving off a completely different vibe. It is not known what lies at the end of her gaze as she looks at a distant place. Viewers are curious to find out whether she will be able to survive each day safely as she gets entangled with Do Jin Woo, a surgical professor at Pilsung Hospital who is actually the grim reaper Kokdu.

New stills of our titular anti-hero have dropped for MBC’s fantasy drama Kkokdu’s Season, giving us a glimpse into the fantastical and medical elements the drama promises.

Played by Kim Jung-hyun (Mr. Queen), Kkokdu has all the makings of a terrifying spectre: he’s the ruler of the underworld; he’s a grim reaper that offs evil humans; his name has an abundance of Ks. However, he was not always this way, as he was once a human. But after dying and forgetting his former identity and purpose for remaining as a spirit, our embittered protagonist became bitter and rebellious, getting on the Creator’s bad side. As a result, Kkokdu is sentenced to pull double duty guarding the underworld and going to earth every 99 years to kill the morally bankrupt.

 

In his latest trip to the world above, Kkokdu inhabits the body of doctor Do Jin-woo to carry out his vengeful plans. But it’s at the hospital where he ends up meeting fellow doctor Han Gye-jeol, played by Im Soo-hyang (Doctor Lawyer). Gye-jeol has a mysterious ability that proves to be invaluable to Kkokdu’s mission, and the two end up working together to ironically both save and take lives.

Also in the main cast, we have the arrogant fellow doctor Tae Jung-won, played by Dasom (Dramaworld), and our hound-like detective Han Cheol, played by Ahn Woo-yeon (Young Lady and Gentleman).

Considering that this production both lost an actor in Lee Ji-han to the Itaewon tragedy and marks Kim Jung-hyun’s drama comeback since his scandal, the cast and crew are likely under immense pressure for this show to succeed. For their sakes, I hope it does.

Written by Kang Yi-heon and Heo Joon-woo (Less Than Evil) and directed by Baek Soo-chan (Alice) and Kim Ji-hoon (Please Check Out The Event), Kkokdu’s Season will premiere on January 27 on MBC.

His job is to lead dead spirits to the after world. Every 99 years, Kok-Du comes down to this world and possess a human body that looks just like him. He kills scummy people who deserve to die. This time, he comes to this world and possess human Do Jin-Woo’s body. He then gets involved with Han Gye-Jeol (Lim Soo-Hyang).

Han Gye-Jeol works as a visiting physician. Because she graduated from the country’s lowest ranked medical school, she is intimidated by people who look down on her credentials. Her mother died when she was a child and she has only her younger brother. She doesn’t have anybody that really cares about her. When Do Jin-Woo appears in front of her, he is the first one in her life who takes her side. Her daily life is changed because of him.

The mystical fates have brought our leads together again in MBC’s newest teaser and stills for their fantasy romance Kkokdu’s Season, which stars Kim Jung-hyun (Mr. Queen), Im Soo-hyang (Doctor Lawyer), Dasom (Was It Love), and Ahn Woo-yeon (Young Lady and Gentleman).

It’s been 99 years since grim reaper Kkokdu (Kim Jung-hyun) stepped foot on the earth and he’s back again to decree his divine punishment on humankind, this time embodying the human Dr. Do Jin-woo. This brings him to encounter our heroine, Dr. Han Gye-jeol (Im Soo-hyang), who seems to have a mysterious power of her own.

 

In the newly released stills, we also meet fellow doctor Tae Jung-won (Dasom) as well as Gye-jeol’s younger brother, Detective Han Cheol (Ahn Woo-yeon).

The newest teaser opens with Kkokdu and Gye-jeol’s first re-meet over a bridge, where our OTP walk past each other as strangers – unaware of their past connection. But something causes them to both pause and look back, triggering a painful memory for our grim reaper. The hazy flashback then shows us a crying Gye-jeol as Kkokdu fights in battle.

The present-day Gye-jeol looks concerned when Kkokdu falls back, trying to block the ringing in his ears. But he quickly gets up to grab onto Gye-jeol, demanding to know who she is. The moment then freezes for our pair as we return to the past again. But this time we see a happier Kkokdu who presents Gye-jeol with a ring. Transitioning back to the present again, the teaser closes on our two leads as they stay standing together atop the bridge.

Co-written by Kang Yi-heon (Bad Detective) and Heo Joon-woo (Bad Detective) with PD Baek Soo-chan (Alice) and PD Kim Ji-hoon (Check Out the Event) co-directing, MBC’s Kkokdu’s Season premieres next month on January 27 in the Friday-Saturday slot.

But there is something almost soft transpiring between the two, and viewers are left to wonder just what kind of season lays in store for these two.

 

Along with the two characters, the shocking sight of white snow amidst the summer scene is sure to draw viewers’ attention. The relationship between Kokdu and Han Gye Jeol has transcended many seasons and feels almost like a miracle, much like snow in midsummer.

The newly released teaser captures Kokdu, who has nothing to fear in the world, and his body moving at the will of doctor Han Gye Jeol’s commands. The clip kicks off with Do Jin Woo (Kim Jung Hyun) and Han Gye Jeol exuding romantic vibes at work until the atmosphere changes completely when an unexpected accident occurs. As Do Jin Woo’s body gets possessed by the arrogant god of the underworld Kokdu, the sweet and caring person turns into a man as cold as ice.

 

However, the one who is more confused and perplexed than Han Gye Jeol is Kokdu in Do Jin Woo’s body. It is because his limbs just move as Han Gye Jeol commands.

 

Kokdu finds the situation completely incomprehensible and wonders whether this human doctor Han Gye Jeol has a special power. Anticipation is high for the unusual romance between the two.
