Kim In Kwon and Cha Chung Hwa will transform into the best duo of the afterlife in “Kokdu: Season of Deity”!

 

MBC’s “Kokdu: Season of Deity” is a fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kokdu (Kim Jung Hyun) who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. Kokdu meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, and starts working as a visiting doctor.

 

The drama has newly released the first stills of Kim In Kwon and Cha Chung Hwa in their roles as Ok Shin and Gak Shin, two half-human half-gods who assist grim reaper Kokdu, the god of the underworld.

 

Kim In Kwon’s character Ok Shin is a half-god of greed, who is constantly chasing down money. As a master of all things money, he enjoys all the benefits of his formidable head position at Bulhwa Group, one of the top 10 chaebols in Korea. However, the purpose of his existence is merely to serve Kokdu, who has the ability to instantly make him feel small.

Since all his attention and senses are geared towards money, Ok Shin is clueless and has no tact. As a result, Ok Shin always ends up acting in ways that set Kokdu off, losing face each time. However, until the Creator’s curse on Kokdu is lifted, the two are fated to endure these harsh days together – but Ok Shin thankfully has his smart partner Gak Shin to put the brakes on for him and create peace in the trio.

 

 

Unlike Ok Shin, Cha Chung Hwa’s character Gak Shin is a half-god of rumors who is more quick-witted, intuitive, and sensible than anyone else. She is a true power who has the key to every single rumor in the world but is also cold and insensitive at all hours of the day. The only time the Gak Shin grows warm is when she’s doing something for Kokdu.

 

In an attempt to wash away bad karma, Gak Shin follows the Creator’s command and begins helping Kokdu, but she begins to feel an indescribable pity for Kokdu who has grown to forget the reason behind all his suffering. As a result, she has frequent outbursts of frustration at Ok Shin whose lack of sense makes him unable to kiss up to Kokdu. Stay tuned to find out how Gak Shin got herself tangled in Kokdu’s troublesome fate.

The contrast between Ok Shin and Gak Shin is depicted in the still of both of them, where Gak Shin stands tall in a luxurious outfit while Ok Shin cowardly hides behind her and sneaks glances at their surroundings.

MBC’s “Kokdu: Season of Deity” is an upcoming fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kokdu (Kim Jung Hyun) who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. When Kokdu meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, he starts working as a visiting doctor.

 

The new behind-the-scenes clip features Im Soo Hyang and Kim Jung Hyun’s gorgeous couple photo shoot for the drama’s main posters. To describe the concept of the shoot, Im Soo Hyang shares, “Just like Gye Jeol, we tried to do a lovely, bright, and cheerful vibe.”

 

Kim Jung Hyun adds, “We shot a romance version as well as a romantic comedy version. In the case of Kokdu, although he’s been cursed, he’s a character who does not lose his free spirit so I’m working hard to try and showcase his witty side a bit more.”

 

After changing into new outfits, the pair also take a batch of gorgeous “fantasy romance” photos, where they’re posing in the snow despite it being the middle of summer.

Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: A love story takes place between a grim reaper and a doctor with a special ability.

Kok-Du (Kim Jung-Hyun) once incurred the wrath of God. He was turned into a grim reaper as punishment for his action. As a grim reaper, he is cold and cruel. His job is to lead dead spirits to the after world. Every 99 years, Kok-Du comes down to this world and possess a human body that looks just like him. He kills scummy people who deserve to die. This time, he comes to this world and possess human Do Jin-Woo’s body. He then gets involved with Han Gye-Jeol (Lim Soo-Hyang).

Han Gye-Jeol works as a visiting physician. Because she graduated from the country’s lowest ranked medical school, she is intimidated by people who look down on her credentials. Her mother died when she was a child and she has only her younger brother. She doesn’t have anybody that really cares about her. When Do Jin-Woo appears in front of her, he is the first one in her life who takes her side. Her daily life is changed because of him.

A fateful reunion stuns Kim Jung-hyun in Kokdu: Season of Deity

MBC’s fantasy romance Kokdu: Season of Deity (previously Kkokdu’s Season) has just released another teaser, giving us a peek at our hero’s tragic history and introducing us to our central cast of characters. From the looks of it, we can expect lots of hilarity, banter, and the requisite meet-cute between our leads Kim Jung-hyun (Mr. Queen) and Im Soo-hyang (Doctor Lawyer).

But first, the latest teaser opens with a glimpse of the past. Seemingly alone in a barren wasteland, Kokdu (Kim Jung-hyun) stares blankly into the distance, as he narrates in voiceover that he’ll do anything it takes to reunite with the love of his life. As penance for his sins, Kokdu is subject to a freezing blizzard.

That takes us to the present, where our heroine Han Gye-jeol (Im Soo-hyang) conveniently slips and falls right into Kokdu’s arms. Except Kokdu isn’t your regular rom-com hero, since he’s a grim reaper who eliminates evil people. In an amusing scene, we see the half-gods played by Kim In-kwon (Cleaning Up) and Cha Chung-hwa (Why Her?) kneeling before Kokdu in penitence.

 

 

Despite his stoic efficiency in getting rid of bad guys, though, Kokdu is still very much affected by his past. Overcome by emotion, Kokdu calls Gye-jeol by a name that isn’t hers, demanding to know if she’s the person from his past.

That isn’t the only conflict they’ll face — though thankfully, the rest are of a more lighthearted nature. Gye-jeol’s bubbly optimism runs counter to everything a grim reaper is supposed to stand for, giving us a grumpy and grumbling Kokdu. Still, he listens to all her instructions anyway, stirring ingredients and carrying suitcases for her despite his endless complaints.

Rounding out the main cast are Ahn Woo-yeon (Young Lady and Gentleman) as Gye-jeol’s brother Han Cheol, and Dasom (Dramaworld) as Gye-jeol’s haughty co-worker Tae Jung-won.

Directed by Baek Soo-chan (Alice) and Kim Ji-hoon (Please Check Out The Event), with scripts written by Kang Yi-heon and Heo Joon-woo (Less Than Evil), Kokdu: Season of Deity is slated to air on January 27 on MBC.

Actor Kim Jung Hyun has introduced the charms of “Kokdu: Season of Deity” ahead of the drama’s premiere!

MBC’s “Kokdu: Season of Deity” is an upcoming fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kokdu (Kim Jung Hyun) who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. When Kokdu meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, he starts working as a visiting doctor.

In an interview, Kim Jung Hyun recalled the time when he read the script for the first time. He foreshadowed great synergy between the unpredictable story as well as his character by sharing, “My first impression of the project was that it is all over the place. Perhaps I thought so because of Kokdu’s personality. I was attracted to both the project and the character for their unpredictable charms.”

 

Kim Jung Hyun also pointed out the different characteristics between the two characters Kokdu and Do Jin Woo. He said, “Kokdu is very dynamic, and Do Jin Woo is more static when compared to Kokdu. So I tried to portray Kokdu’s expressions bigger than what I imagined, whereas I tried to restrain myself as much as possible when portraying Do Jin Woo. As a result, differences were made [between the two characters] not only in the way they dress but also in their tone of voices.”

 

Lastly, the actor introduced intriguing points to keep an eye on for viewers. Kim Jung Hyun remarked, “It would be great if you just go with the flow of the drama itself. If you follow the narrative just like that, you will naturally discover what story we want to tell through this drama.”

The teaser begins way in the past and previews Kokdu and Han Gye Jeol’s mysterious connection. Kokdu desperately comments, “No matter what…I will meet Seol Yi.”

 

For the first time in 99 years, Kokdu returns to earth and runs into Han Gye Jeol, as well as his faithful assistants Ok Shin (Kim In Kwon) and Gak Shin (Cha Chung Hwa). Despite being a powerful grim reaper, for some odd reason, Kokdu’s body reacts instantly to all of Han Gye Jeol’s requests, hinting at their incredibly special bond.

 

Wanting to learn more about Kokdu, Gye Jeol draws a photo of him to give to her detective younger brother Han Cheol (An Woo Yeon). She tells him, “That person looks just like this. You go find him.” Exasperated, Han Cheol responds, “You’ve fallen in love again that quickly?”

 

As Gye Jeol, who believes in real love, and Kokdu, who suspects that Gye Jeol is Seol Yi, start spending more time together, their relationship begins to grow. She explains to him, “I’m going to meet someone who’s a good person not by doing something, but even when they don’t do anything.” Kokdu retorts, “Where does that kind of person exist?!” Han Gye Jeol replies, “Somewhere, I’m sure. That kind of fateful person.”

Im Soo Hyang has shared her own interpretation on the characters in “Kokdu: Season of Deity”!

“Kokdu: Season of Deity” is a new fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kokdu (Kim Jung Hyun) who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. When Kokdu meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, he starts working as a visiting doctor.

Just like how her co-star Kim Jung Hyun had commented about the script in his interview, Im Soo Hyang also remarked that the script was so entertaining that she finished it on the spot. For Im Soo Hyang, who always wanted to try a fantasy or historical drama, “Kokdu: Season of Deity” was a project that she welcomed with pleasure.

Im Soo Hyang shared that she had to interpret the two characters Han Gye Jeol and Seol Hee (her character from her past life) with delicacy in order to portray the connected fate of the two who had completely different lives in different time periods. She explained, ”For Han Gye Jeol, I tried to highlight the courageous and lively personality whereas for Seol Hee, I portrayed her as a shy woman who is in love.”

Im Soo Hyang also talked about the chemistry between Han Gye Jeol and Kokdu. She said, “I think they probably fight more than any other couples from romance dramas. I wish [viewers] look fondly upon the two who look like a perfect couple but bicker just like Tom and Jerry.”

As a closing remark, the actress commented, “I hope ‘Kokdu: Season of Deity’ will be remembered as spring. In the drama, Kokdu symbolizes winter, and Han Gye Jeol symbolizes summer. Thus, it can be said that [the drama] depicts snow falling down in mid-summer. Spring is the season that connects these two characters. I hope it will be remembered as a drama that gives heart-fluttering moments like when seeing cherry blossoms in full bloom in spring after winter passes.”

Although the powerful Kokdu wants to maintain his cold and intimidating image, he quickly realizes that is somehow impossible with Han Gye Jeol. When she screams at him to kneel and apologize to her, Kokdu scoffs at the ridiculous demand, but is shocked when his body moves on its own to obey her orders.

 

It’s unclear whether Han Gye Jeol is aware of the power she holds over Kokdu, but the strange phenomenon continues to occur where he has no choice but to help her out. Even while complaining, Kokdu does not seem to leave Han Gye Jeol’s side, teasing their blossoming relationship.

 

Eventually, Kokdu boldly suggests, “Let’s try dating.” Han Gye Jeol remains hesitant and replies, “If you want to date me, state some evidence. Evidence that we are meant to be.” Kokdu confidently responds, “Should we check right now? Let’s kiss.”

Kim Jung-hyun and Im Soo-hyang are tied by fate with a kiss

MBC has been generously pushing out promos for their upcoming fantasy Kokdu: Season of Deity, and the latest round includes a new teaser along with stills of their supporting cast.

Our title’s Kokdu – played by Kim Jung-hyun (Mr. Queen) – is back among mortals to fulfill his grim reaper duties and punish evil-doers for their sins. But his priorities become shaken when he runs into Han Gye-jeol – played by Im Soo-hyang (Doctor Lawyer) – the present reincarnation of his past love.

 

In the new stills, we get another look at Gye-jeol’s brother Ahn Woo-yeon (Young Lady and Gentleman) in addition to Gye-jeol’s colleague and fellow doctor Dasom (Dramaworld). We also can’t forget Kokdu’s underlings, the half-gods Kim In-kwon (The Good Detective 2) and Cha Chung-hwa (Why Her).

The new teaser begins with our heroine introducing herself as Dr. Han Gye-jeol, while our hero simply says that he’s Kokdu. Gye-jeol doesn’t understand what a “Kokdu” is and we briefly flash back to a solemn Kokdu standing before the barren underworld. We then cut to our pair in the present, where an upset Gye-jeol demands, “Kneel in front of me and apologize!” Kokdu is confused and vocally refuses to do such a thing. But his body obeys against his will, shocking both Kokdu and Gye-jeol.

Kokdu understands right away that Gye-jeol wields some kind of power over him and tells her not to order him around. But it’s unclear how much Gye-jeol is aware as she graciously tells Kokdu to hop on her bike and welcomes him to come inside. Despite his forced obedience to her commands, Kokdu willingly chooses to see Gye-jeol and asks her outright to date. In reply, Gye-jeol asks for proof that they’re destined to be together and the teaser closes on Kokdu’s offer to confirm their fate with a kiss.

Production for the drama is led by a team of four with PD Baek Soo-chan (Alice) and PD Kim Ji-hoon (Check Out the Event) co-directing alongside Bad Detective writers Kang Yi-heon and Heo Joon-woo. MBC’s Kokdu: Season of Deity premieres next week on January 27.

Cha Chung Hwa And Kim In Kwon Dish On Creating Their Dynamic Duo And What To Look Out For In “Kokdu: Season Of Deity”

 

MBC has shared a closer look at the dynamic duo of Kim In Kwon and Cha Chung Hwa in “Kokdu: Season of Deity”!

 

“Kokdu: Season of Deity” is a new fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kokdu (Kim Jung Hyun) who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. When Kokdu meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, he starts working as a visiting doctor.

 

Kim In Kwon and Cha Chung Hwa star as Kokdu’s assistants Ok Shin and Gak Shin, who are both half-human and half-god. The combination of their name roughly translates to “bicker,” which is the perfect description of this hilariously chaotic duo.

 

Kim In Kwon plays Ok Shin, a half-god of greed who is constantly chasing down money. As a master of all things money, he enjoys all the benefits of his formidable head position at Bulhwa Group, one of the top 10 chaebols in Korea. Despite his career, Ok Shin’s life purpose is to serve Kokdu, whom he regularly RickRoll'D off with his clueless personality.

 

The actor spoke about being drawn to the novelty of Ok Shin and paying specific attention to the character’s gestures and voice tone. He explained, “He’s a character who transcends generations as a half-god who has lived for a whopping 1,400 years. Within the process of crossing over from the underworld to this world, I thought about establishing a tone that wasn’t out of place.”

 

 

Completely opposite of Ok Shin, Cha Chung Hwa’s character Gak Shin is a half-god of rumors who is more quick-witted, intuitive, and sensible than anyone else. In order to efficiently portray Gak Shin, Cha Chung Hwa also focused on strategically setting her voice tone to be the opposite of whoever she was acting with.

 

Additionally, as she expresses her frustration with Ok Shin’s slow wits right from the get-go, Cha Chung Hwa worked on establishing a clear difference between the characters’ personalities.

 

Cha Chung Hwa elaborated, “As she gives advice to the cowardly Kokdu and tries to match his mood, I tried expressing myself with a solemn yet caring tone, while I tried using a blunt tone with Han Gye Jeol, as if I know everything in the world.” She added that to put emphasis on Ok Shin and Gak Shin’s chemistry, the actors put a lot of effort into their appearances by wearing matching all-black outfits.

 

 

After both actors dished on their chemistry, Cha Chung Hwa shared, “If you watch while following the feelings of Kokdu and Han Gye Jeol who meet like fate, you’ll always be curious about the next episode. Also, please look forward to Ok Shin and Gak Shin who will look after Kokdu’s physical and spiritual sides, as well as the fantasy romance that goes back and forth between the underworld and this world.”

 

Kim In Kwon chimed in, “I hope [viewers] casually enjoy the thrilling and sweet story of this fantasy romance. Please also look forward to Ok Shin and Gak Shin’s exciting chemistry.”

“Kokdu: Season Of Deity” Drops Analysis Chart For Relationships Between Kim Jung Hyun, Im Soo Hyang, And More

 

“Kokdu: Season of Deity” has shared an intricate character relationship chart!

 

MBC’s “Kokdu: Season of Deity” is a new fantasy romance which tells the story of a grim reaper named Kokdu (Kim Jung Hyun) who comes down to this world to punish humans every 99 years. When Kokdu meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang), a doctor with mysterious abilities, he starts working as a visiting doctor.

 

With the drama’s premiere quickly approaching, “Kokdu: Season of Deity” has unveiled a new character relationship chart to deeply analyze the intriguing connections in the story!

 

For starters, there is Kim Jung Hyun as Kokdu, a unique grim reaper from the underworld, and as Do Jin Woo, a visiting doctor at Pilsung Hospital who has embodied Kokdu’s spirit. He gets fatefully tied up with Han Gye Jeol on a random snowy summer day and draws close to her with hopes of breaking the curse he’s under. Han Gye Jeol also does not deny him as she needs the help of Do Jin Woo.

 

On top of this, their fateful encounter is clearly rooted in a deeper, past connection, raising questions about the pair’s long-winding relationship. From their sweet and affectionate past selves to their present day banter and chemistry, Kim Jung Hyun and Im Soo Hyang are sure to deliver a colorful love story. Adding tension to their romance will be Han Gye Jeol’s ex-boyfriend Jung Yi Deun (Lee Jung Joon), who is a star golfer.

 

Another intriguing addition to their love story is golden girl Tae Jung Won (Dasom), a fellow Pilsung Hospital doctor who has a one-sided crush on Do Jin Woo. She’s best friends with nurse Sa Gook Hwa (Son So Mang). Tae Jung Won also develops an ambiguous relationship with Han Chul (Ahn Woo Yeon), a homicide detective who happens to be Han Gye Jeol’s younger brother. While the link between Tae Jung Won and Han Chul has a question mark, both characters are shown with unlabeled connections to Han Gye Jeol and Kokdu respectively, raising anticipation to see how all four characters become acquainted!

 

Working closely with Kokdu are his half-god, half-human helpers Ok Shin (Kim In Kwon) and Gak Shin (Cha Chung Hwa). While Kokdu sees the pair as his enemies, they are really his obedient servants whose loyalty carries from the underworld.

 

Choi Kwang Il portrays Kim Pil Soo, the chairman of Pilsung Bio and chief director of Pilsung Hospital. In order to get rid of Do Jin Woo, who has gotten in his way, Kim Pil Soo enlists his associate Joong Sik (Kim Young Woong). Last but not least are the people of Youngpo, which includes Bae Jung Gook (Kim Byung Choon) as well as married couples Oh Kyung Seung (Oh Young Shil) and Shin Hong Geun (Kim Byung Ok), and Choi Dal Seung (Woo Hyun) and Moon Myung Ja (Lee Young Ran).
