[News] Jang Keun Suk, Coupang Play 'Decoy/Bait', dominates the screen with acting skills

Actor Jang Keun-suk showed off his acting in 'Bait' with a heavy presence and a harmonious unity with the character.

In episodes 1 and 2 of the Coupang play series 'Bait', which was released on the 27th, Jang Keun-suk perfectly assimilated the character of the rescued homicide detective who was full of passion to dig into the murder case, and shot the hearts of the viewers properly.

In the first episode, Jang Keun-Suk showed a charm of a full-fledged twist by making people curious about the narrative of the character who was rescued from being a lawyer to a detective. Gu Do-han, who was being punished for fabricating documents and concealing the case, was put into the mysterious murder case of Young-jin Song (played by Myung-hoon Park) and pursued the culprit. He sensed Lee Byung-jun's (Lee Seung-jun) suspicious movements at the scene of the incident and identified him as the suspect.

Gu Do-han had a conversation with Lee Byung-jun to solve the case in a situation where Song Young-jin's transcript and Lee Byung-jun's testimony all point to Noh Sang-cheon, who died 8 years ago, as the culprit. Gu Do-han couldn't hide his surprise when he heard from Lee Byung-joon about the relationship between Sang-cheon Noh, Young-jin Song, and Jong-hun Kang (played by Seong-wook Lee) in the past.

Gu Do-han added mystery to the relationship between Kang Jong-hoon and Noh Sang-cheon by saying to Deputy Director Kang, “If there is something I need to cover, please let me know in advance,” hinting that an exciting story will unfold in the future. Jang Keun-suk immersed fans in an instant by expressing the minutely trembling eyes and emotional changes of the rescued character with his whole body.

In episode 2, Jang Keun-suk showed off his colorful charm as a more tenacious and passionate Gu Do-han than anyone else in the murder case. Gu Do-han was convinced that Lee Byung-jun was not the culprit in Song Young-jin's case, and soon narrowed the scope down to a group of victims who were scammed by Noh Sang-cheon, adding to the excitement.

At the end of the broadcast, Gu Do-han discovered that Lee Byung-joon, who had disappeared from the eyes of the detective who was following him, was with Cheon Na-yeon (Lee Elijah) at the scene of the murder of city councilor Park Gwang-shin, and aimed his gun at the two.

Gu Do-han not only struck a blow at his fellow detectives who were convinced that Lee Byung-joon and Cheon Na-yeon, who were caught at the scene, were the real culprits of the murder, but he was embarrassed to hear from Kang Jong-hoon, who arrived at the scene belatedly, that there was a third murder involving Noh Sang-cheon. could not hide Jang Keun Suk perfectly absorbed the character that changes every moment depending on the situation, giving an overwhelming sense of tension.

From beginning to end, Jang Keun-suk drew convincing acting and a dense emotional line, exuding a heavy presence, amplifying curiosity about how to lead the play in the future in just two episodes.

Episodes 3 and 4 of Jang Keun Suk's 'Bait', which perfectly assimilated with the character and attempted a new transformation that had not been seen before, will be released at Coupang Play on February 3 at 8:00 pm.

I started watching this drama... I like JKS' voice... I really forgot about it, last I remember him was in You're beautiful.

the drama uses too much blue/yellow filter, other than that, it is interesting so I have put it on my to-watch list.

@partyon  @rocat  just watched ep 4.

I do like this drama and there is suspense.  But the thing is that I kind of see where this Part 1 is going to end. Hope I´m wrong.

There is things that I like. JKS is really good actor ad the supportive actors are doing their job.

Spoiler

the things I don´t like. It was oblivious who the killer was.  Also the victim group. I do get that they don´t trust cops seeing how they were delt in the past. But still. Argh.

Also was Noh that smart that he had that much of power. we do know that he blackmailed people. But to scam that much. He had to scam/blackmail really powerful people to get out of the country and maybe fake his dead. Also even now people are trying to cover him.

Anyways I hope all the rotten guys in power get their end(not dead) but in Jail.

ep 2

I wonder if the suspect, BJ, is a murder.

Im not sure if I understood correctly, the Deputy Head is the righteous detective who wanted to arrest Mr. No.

It is not clear to me if the police dont know about the first victim or if someone covered up the case.

I didn't even realise this has started... yes, planning to watch, but I think can only start it towards the end of this week. I used to be JGS fan (long time ago), but he just somehow disappeared for a while from dramaland... Hopefully the story is good.

@joccu @rocat @agenth My main gripe with this drama is that it's sooooo dark in most scenes. People, please turn on the lights!

I think the PD wants to make it dark to fit with the story. :glasses:

Jang Keun Suk so funny when he replied fans like this:

Q: Please tell us a special secret to enjoy “Decoy”‼️
A: Turn off the light and watch it. :D

[From Forbes] Jang Keun-Suk Is A Detective Tracking A Dead Con Man In ‘Decoy’
It’s just fraud, say police officials, when deciding how long to pursue the case of a con man who bankrupted hundreds by selling a bogus investment. They casually discount the damage done by the con artist Noh Sang-cheon, played by Heo Sung-tae, in the Korean drama Decoy.

His victims should have been wise to his Ponzi scheme, they say, but, no, they trusted him. It’s their own fault their lives are ruined. The case is officially closed after Sang-cheon flees to China and he’s reportedly killed in a car crash. His victims no longer have any recourse, except to meet each other and commiserate.

More than a decade later a lawyer-turned-detective Gu Do-han, played by Jang Keun Suk, investigates a murder that implicates the supposedly dead Sang-cheon. His superiors discount the possibility that Sang-cheon is alive and suggest another direction. However, Sang-cheon’s victims are sure he is alive, that he will face justice and they will receive compensation.

Decoy illustrates how dangerous it is to trust the wrong people and at the same time how vulnerable people are to deceit. Most of the scenes in the opening episodes are dimly lit, portrayed in smoky shades of blue and gray, as if to suggest a world that is dark and unreliable, a world where crucial details are lost to the shadows. Characters are not who they seem to be, even Do-han, who left a law practice to become a detective. What kind of person leaves a successful career as a lawyer, asks one of his colleagues, to live the difficult, underpaid existence of a detective?

While investigating the murder he meets reporter Jung Na-yeon, played by Lee Elijah, who initially pretends to be a lawyer. She’s connected to the victims of Sang-cheon’s scam and Do-han soon begins to wonder if the con man’s supposed death was just part of his elaborate fraud?

Do-han is Jang’s first drama role in five years and one that adds a new dimension to his resume. The actor has appeared in a succession of films and dramas, but is perhaps best known for lighter fare such as the dramas You’re Beautiful and Marry Me Mary and the film You’re My Pet. So, it’s interesting to see him as a determined detective in this police thriller. He does a convincing job playing the reticent Do-han, a man who is sure he could never be conned, primarily because he doesn’t allow himself to trust anyone.

Heo Sung-tae is a prolific actor. In 2022 alone Heo appeared in the dramas Big Bet, Behind Every Star, Adamas, Inside and Bloody Heart as well as the films Hunt and Stellar. Co-star Lee Elijah previously appeared in the dramas The Good Detective, Delayed Justice and The Last Empress.
The Coupang Play drama will be shown in two parts and airs in the US on Viki.com.
