Lee Do Hyun Meets With His Father’s Enemy Jung Woong In And Leaves His Mother Ra Mi Ran Speechless In “The Good Bad Mother”

Lee Do Hyun will make a complete switch in the upcoming episode of “The Good Bad Mother”!

JTBC’s “The Good Bad Mother” is a heartwarming comedy about a woman who must return to her motherly duties after her adult son unexpectedly becomes like a young child again. Lee Do Hyun will star as Kang Ho, a prominent prosecutor who has a fraught relationship with his mother Young Soon (Ra Mi Ran)—until he loses his memory in an accident and unexpectedly reverts to his seven-year-old self.

Ahead of the drama’s second episode, “The Good Bad Mother” unveiled new photos of Kang Ho’s bold actions as he becomes a cold prosecutor.

In the premiere episode, Young Soon’s happy life reached an extreme turning point after the death of her husband Hae Sik (Jo Jin Woong). This allowed her to pour everything she had into raising their son Kang Ho. Her drastic transformation was borderline devastating, as she became determined to be a harsh mother and make sure Kang Ho grew up strong, powerful, and capable of becoming a judge.

With feelings of both love and hate towards his mother, Kang Ho eventually grows up to become a prosecutor as Young Soon wanted, but this inevitably results in another change in both Kang Ho’s behavior and their relationship.

The latest stills capture Kang Ho’s changed attitude as a cold and mature prosecutor. In the first photos, Kang Ho is out for drinks with Oh Tae Soo (Jung Woong In), a prosecutor-turned-national assemblyman. Given that Oh Tae Soo has bad blood with Kang Ho’s father Hae Sik, viewers are left with numerous questions about why the two are meeting up, what Oh Tae Soo is whispering to Kang Ho, and whether Kang Ho’s father’s enemies will transfer down to him.

In the next set of stills, Kang Ho is back in Jouri Village where he grew up. Excited to greet her son for the first time in awhile, Young Soon ditches her usual style and opts to awkwardly dress up in an extravagant outfit. However, their friendly atmosphere quickly turns stiff, with a mysterious document in between them. What has made Young Soon freeze up while Kang Ho looks upon her with a blank expression?

In Episode 2 of “The Good Bad Mother,” Young Soon will get ready with her neighbors to welcome Kang Ho home after he becomes a prosecutor. However, Kang Ho’s unexpected and secret plans will leave Young Soon feeling hurt and betrayed.

The drama’s producers shared, “The story of prosecutor Kang Ho getting closely tied up with [villains] Oh Tae Soo and Song Woo Byuk [Choi Moo Sung] will officially be drawn out. Please watch the story to see why Kang Ho meets with his parents’ two enemies.”

The Good Bad Mother: Episodes 1-2

by lovepark

A mother who wants the best for her son and a son who wants nothing to do with her — as implied by its name, The Good Bad Mother depicts a complicated familial relationship filled with strife and tension. Blazing through two episodes of setup and exposition, the show presents a lot of characters and plot points this opening week, but with each answered question, a dozen more take its place.

EPISODES 1-2

The first two episodes of The Good Bad Mother span over thirty years, and there’s a lot to cover. But to understand the present, we must first look back to the past.

It’s 1986 in the countryside of Korea, and our protagonist JIN YOUNG-SOON (Ra Mi-ran) is a bright-eyed artist with a warm smile and a positive attitude. Life is good for Young-soon as her beau — a young pig famer named CHOI HAE-SHIK (special appearance by Jo Jin-woong) — proposes to her with a piglet, and they start their new family together.

However, the show wouldn’t be called “bad mother” if all was well, and soon into their marital bliss, tragedy strikes. Due to the upcoming Seoul Olympics, construction companies are razing properties, and we are introduced to our first major villain, SONG WOO-BYEOK (Choi Moo-sung). When Hae-shik refuses to sign over his farm, the construction company burns it down, settling the matter in the most brutal way possible.

While most people would have given up, our humble pig farmer has a backbone and a heart for justice. Unfortunately, the prosecutor on the case, OH TAE-SOO (Jung Woong-in), works for the construction company as well, and he betrays Hae-shik. Thus, Young-soon receives a call one night that her husband has died (a murder disguised as suicide), and she is left all alone in the world to take care of her unborn child.

The second half of Young-soon’s flashback begins anew in a small town called Jo-woo-ri which comes with its own slew of nosy neighbors. There’s the village chief and his masked wife (Kim Won-hae and Park Bo-kyung); the miller and his wife, a.k.a. Sam-shik’s parents (Jang Won-young and Seo Yi-sook); and the currently pregnant mother of two (Kang Mal-geum) with her good-for-nothing husband (special appearance by Lee Do-yub). Their first encounter starts off on a bad foot as the villagers threaten to close down the pig farm, but their fight gets cut short when Young-soon’s water breaks.

The once enemies band together to help their new neighbor, and our second protagonist CHOI KANG-HO is born. As the hullabaloo quiets for a moment, another wave of commotion crashes over them as our other pregnant mother gives birth to her third daughter, LEE MI-JOO. With that, the younger trio have all been introduced.

The rest of episode one feels more like vignettes strung together, and through three pivotal scenes, the show reveals glimpses of Kang-ho and Young-soon’s tumultuous relationship. The first occurs in elementary school when Kang-ho comes home after fighting with Sam-shik, and Young-soon punishes her son for cursing and tells him that his bully said nothing wrong. Adding salt to the wound, she forces him to stay home to study instead of going to the school picnic, and on the form to explain his absence, he writes down that he has a “bad mom.”

The second central moment happens in high school and revolves around our trio again. Sam-shik (Yoo In-soo) spots Kang-ho (Lee Do-hyun) slipping into the storage shed to study during break and locks the door behind him as a prank. Unbeknownst to both boys, Mi-joo (Ahn Eun-jin) was hiding there to surprise Kang-ho for their birthday, and the two of them end up stuck in the shed for the rest of the day. While Mi-joo writes “love” over again in her workbook while stealing glances at Kang-ho, he never takes his eyes off his notes.

When their families finally arrive to fetch them, they open the doors at the most inopportune time — she was choking and he was giving her the Heimlich maneuver. Rather than ask what happened or how they are, Young-soon berates her son for missing his supplementary class and brushes past him to grab his stuff. Inside his notebook, there is a drawing of Mi-joo, revealing to the audience that her crush isn’t so one-sided after all.

Lee Do Hyun And Ra Mi Ran Turn Crisis Into Opportunity In “The Good Bad Mother”

May 4, 2023

JTBC’s “The Good Bad Mother” has shared a sneak peek of the life of 7-year-old Lee Do Hyun!

“The Good Bad Mother” is a heartwarming comedy about a woman who must return to her motherly duties after her adult son unexpectedly becomes like a young child again. Lee Do Hyun will star as Kang Ho, a prominent prosecutor who has a fraught relationship with his mother Young Soon (Ra Mi Ran)—until he loses his memory in an accident and unexpectedly reverts to his seven-year-old self.

Ahead of the drama’s fourth episode, “The Good Bad Mother” unveiled new photos of Young Soon and Kang Ho, who have begun searching for their lost happiness after resetting their lives. As new days unfold with Kang Ho behaving like a child, Young Soon comes face to face with a side of her son from his prosecutor days that she never knew about.

Spoilers

In the last broadcast, Kang Ho narrowly escaped death after a car accident and was unable to go back to his old life. He could barely move his fingertips, let alone stand and walk on his own two feet. Additionally, he developed Retrograde Amnesia which left him with the intelligence and memory of a 7-year-old. However, Young Soon did not break down. Grateful that Kang Ho was even alive, Young Soon did everything she could for him. Thanks to Young Soon’s sincerity and extreme devotion, Kang Ho was able to make miraculous progress.

In the first still, Young Soon visits Kang Ho’s office to pack his belongings. The dry flowerpot in her hand is a reminder of Kang Ho’s hectic life, and her stunned expression raises curiosity about what she might have heard or seen.

Next, Kang Ho is captured standing side by side with Ms. Jung’s (Kang Mal Geum) twins Ye Jin (Ki So Yu) and Seo Jin (Park Da On) while they all get punished by his mother. Although there’s a hint of playfulness in his expression, Kang Ho ultimately looks like any upset 7-year-old getting scolded. Expectations are high for this second phase of Kang Ho’s life as he suddenly becomes friends with the 7-year-old twins.

The Good Bad Mother: Episodes 3-4

by lovepark

A terrible accident almost kills our hero, but in a stroke of luck, he is given a second chance at life. However, things have changed, and our heroes must learn to navigate this new world together. As our bad mother slowly repairs her relationship with her son, she realizes just how much she did not know about him and must decide what to do going forward.

EPISODES 3-4

Last week, I thought Ha-young was an innocent bystander who got caught up in Kang-ho’s revenge, so imagine my surprise when Tae-soo goes to the hospital to comfort his crying daughter only to whisper in her ear, “Good job.” (My jaw dropped.) All those coincidences — her driving, losing the scarf, parking on a ledge — were actually deliberate choices to stage the accident, but the deviousness of Tae-soo doesn’t stop there. In order to cover his tracks, he has the truck burned and the man killed.

However, Tae-soo is not the only villain around, and Woo-byeok proves to be a cunning foe. He sends his men to find the hit-and-run driver, and with a bit of leg work, they uncover Tae-soo’s nefarious plans. With enough incriminating evidence to ruin Tae-soo’s career, Woo-byeok has the man’s life in the palm of his hand, so Tae-soo reveals his own trump card: Kang-ho knows what they did to his father.

Woo-byeok feigns ignorance as he listens to Tae-soo prattle about their past and then smirks. He knew from the beginning who Kang-ho was, but the difference between him and Tae-soo is that the latter only sees Kang-ho as a threat while Woo-byeok recognizes the usefulness of a tool.

Despite Tae-soo’s attempt to kill Kang-ho, our prosecutor survives the crash though it leaves him with a spinal cord injury and retrograde amnesia. After watching her son lie unconscious for months, Young-soon is grateful to see him wake up no matter the state and takes him back home with her.

At first, she tries to keep Kang-ho’s condition a secret from her neighbors, but in such a small town, nothing stays hidden for too long. Soon, everyone hears about their predicament, but rather than judge, they bring her food and medicine. Touched by their generosity, Young-soon says that their kindness will make her weak, but the village chief tells her that nothing can replace a mother.

Regaining her strength, Young-soon resumes her care for Kang-ho and tackles her first big hurdle: his refusal to eat. No matter what kind of food she makes, Kang-ho closes his mouth and turns his head away. The neighborhood doctor tells Young-soon that certain patients lose the will to live after their accidents, but his explanation offers no solutions or peace of mind.

As the days go by with no change in sight, Young-soon grows frustrated with Kang-ho until she finally explodes and shoves food in his face. She yells at him to eat, and Kang-ho looks up at his mom with tears pooling in his eyes. For the first time since his accident, he speaks up, “You get sleepy when you’re full. If you’re sleepy, then you can’t study.”

While Kang-ho repeats those words over and over again, Young-soon realizes what she did to her son and breaks down. She tells him that she just wanted him to be happy and apologizes for what she did. She begs him to eat, and Kang-ho takes a bite of food.

After that incident, Kang-ho starts to improve drastically, but Young-soon is not satisfied. She plans to have her son back to his old self no matter the method, and thus, her bad parenting habits kick in again. She uses hunger as a motivator to make him practice his motor skills, and in the end, Kang-ho manages to feed himself through sheer willpower. Though I should be happy seeing him get better, the emphasis on results regardless of the means leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
