Kim Young Jae to join the cast of "The Queen's Umbrella"

Kim Young Jae will be added to the cast of the upcoming drama  "The Queen's Umbrella."

On September 6th, it was confirmed that Kim Young Jae will also be part of the much-awaited tvN historical drama "The Queen's Umbrella." 

Kim Young Jae will be working alongside Kim Hye Soo, Kim Hae Sook, Choi Won Young, Kim Eui Sung, Moon Sang Min, SF9's Chani, Ok Ja Yeon, Kim Ga Eun, Yoo Sun Ho, and more.

"The Queen's Umbrella" will revolve around a hot-tempered queen and her troublemaker sons. The palace will do its best to make the troublemaker princes into proper crown princes. 

Kim Young Jae will give life to the character named Min Seung Yoon, the official who will be in charge of the education of the princes. 

This will be his reunion drama with Kim Hye Soo. The two worked together in the 2020 series "Hyena."

"The Queen's Umbrella" will be directed by Kim Hyung Shik ("Twenty Again," "Secret Door," and "The Suspicious Housekeeper") and the script will be penned by Park Bara.  The series will premiere next month.

The drama will be both available on tvN and the global OTT platform, Netflix. 

 

 

The actor is currently starring in the series "Becoming Witch" together with Lee Yoo Ri, Lee Min Young, Yoon So Yi, Jung Sang Hoon, and Ryu Yeon Seok. "The Queen's Umbrella" will be his next project after "Becoming Witch." 

Kim Young Jae made his acting debut in 2002. Since then, he has starred in several films and dramas. He has appeared in a supporting role in the following dramas "A Love to Kill," "Childless Comfort," "You Are The Best!," "The King's Daughter, Soo Baek Hyang," "Vampire Detective," "Mother," "Thirty But Seventeen," "Stranger 2," "High Class," "Artificial City," and more.

Kim Hye-soo protects her princes with The Queen’s Umbrella

New promos have been released for tvN’s black comedy sageuk The Queen’s Umbrella, including new stills and a video teaser of our regal queen Kim Hye-soo (Juvenile Justice).

As Queen Hwa-ryung, Kim Hye-soo is wife to the reigning King Yi Ho – played by Choi Won-young (Golden Spoon) – who is well-revered for bringing an era of peace and prosperity for the nation. But, alas, this peace did not spread within the palace walls and the rivalry between the king’s sons has brought shame upon the royal house. In order to restore their dignity, Hwa-ryung takes matters into her own hands and decides to personally manage the princes’ royal education.

 

The Queen Dowager – Kim Hae-sook (Tomorrow) – is fiercely proud of Yi Ho and his accomplishments as a ruler, but has little regard for her troublesome grandsons. Also complicating matters in the palace is the powerful Kim Eui-sung (Taxi Driver) along with the royal concubines, Ok Ja-yeon (Big Mouth) and Kim Ga-eun (Kiss Sixth Sense).

Taking on the role of princes, we have Moon Sang-min (My Name), SF9’s Chani (Imitation), Yoo Sun-ho (The Great Shaman: Ga Doo-shim), Yoon Sang-hyun, and Kim Min-ki (The King of Tears, Lee Bang-won).

 

 

The short new teaser features Queen Hwa-ryung outside in the courtyards where she lovingly looks down at a young child prince. As soft music plays overhead, the prince looks up at Hwa-ryung as she shields him from the rain with her umbrella.

With scripts by Park Ba-ra and directing helmed by PD Kim Hyung-shik (About Time, Secret Door), tvN’s The Queen’s Umbrella will be coming to our screens this October.

Teaser trailer and new teaser poster added for tvN drama series “The Queen’s Umbrella” starring Kim Hye-Soo. tvN has released a new teaser and poster for its upcoming drama “The Queen’s Umbrella”!

 

“The Queen’s Umbrella” is a new historical drama that centers on the special palace education system of the Joseon Dynasty. The drama will follow the conflict within the palace over trying to make proper princes out of its five troublemaking princes, who cause nothing but headaches for the royal family.

 

Kim Hye Soo will star in the drama as queen Im Hwa Ryung, the wife of a great king and the long-suffering mother of five troublemaking sons.

 

The newly released main poster for “The Queen’s Umbrella” reveals just how busy Im Hwa Ryung is beneath her elegant exterior. While the top half of the poster captures the queen’s regal, composed aura, the bottom half emphasizes the fact that she is always on the go.

 

The poster’s caption reads, “The queen, who has the fastest footsteps in all of Joseon, has arrived!”

 

 

The new teaser also highlights the queen’s busy and unexpectedly active lifestyle as she hurriedly runs from place to place. In one scene, she grabs a prince by the hand and drags him somewhere before he even has a chance to get properly dressed; in another, she loses a shoe Cinderella-style as she rushes somewhere.

First, the figure of Hwaryeong in the poster of the ON version with the heavy battle mode activated shows the charisma of a dignified and solemn queen. Hwa-ryeong, who stands between Dae Dae (Kim Hae-sook) and the concubine Hwang Gwi-in (Ok Ja-yeon), who is the two mountain ranges of the concubine line, and Tae So-yong (Kim Ga-eun), the concubine of Seung-eun, exudes an incomparable dignity.

 

I find it interesting to see the lines of people standing upright in an orderly manner according to their status. The composition, in which everyone is facing the front in an undisturbed posture, also creates a breathtaking tension like a silent war, predicting the relationship between those who will be entangled in subtle checks and conflicts.

 

On the other hand, in the poster of the OFF version with the heavy fighting mode turned off, you can find a Hwaryeong that is different from the one in my list. Hwaryeong's golden side, Seongnam Dae-gun (Moon Sang-min), Gye-seong Dae-gun (Yoo Seon-ho), and Muan Dae-gun (Yun Sang-hyun) (?) It contains the image of Hwaryeong, a mother who never stops sighing.

“The Queen’s Umbrella” has dropped new posters capturing Kim Hye Soo’s “ON” and “OFF” modes!

 

tvN’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday drama “The Queen’s Umbrella” is a new historical drama that centers on the special palace education system of the Joseon Dynasty. The drama will follow the conflict within the palace over trying to make proper princes out of its five troublemaking princes, who cause nothing but headaches for the royal family.

 

Kim Hye Soo will star in the drama as queen Im Hwa Ryung, the wife of a great king and the long-suffering mother of five troublemaking sons.

 

The drama has newly shared two main posters that capture queen Hwa Ryung’s dignified “ON” mode as well as her friendly “OFF” mode.

 

In the “ON” version poster, queen Im Hwa Ryung is a sharp, dignified, and charismatic leader. She stands firmly with her powerful mother-in-law, Queen Dowager (Kim Hae Sook), who is engulfed in a cold aura. They are joined by top concubines, the prim Tae So Yong (Kim Ga Eun) and the prestigious Hwang Gwi In (Ok Ja Yeon).

 

Another key point of this poster is their strict formation. All four ladies flaunt their perfect posture and stare directly in front of them, creating a flawless photo but with a suffocatingly stiff atmosphere.

 

 

The second “OFF” poster captures the queen’s alternate side as a fun mother. She poses playfully with her sons, prince Sung Nam (Moon Sang Min), prince Gye Sung (Yoo Seon Ho), and prince Mu Ahn (Yoon Sang Hyun). Unlike the first photo, there is no standard rule to how the princes stand around their mother, which represents their carefree and loose lives.

Kim Hye Soo’s sons are the root of all her stress in “The Queen’s Umbrella”!

tvN’s “The Queen’s Umbrella” is a new historical drama that centers on the special palace education system of the Joseon Dynasty. The drama will follow the conflict within the palace over trying to make proper princes out of its five troublemaking princes, who cause nothing but headaches for the royal family. Kim Hye Soo will star in the drama as queen Im Hwa Ryung, the wife of a great king and the long-suffering mother of five troublemaking sons.

The newly released teaser draws out just how dedicated queen Im Hwa Ryung is to ensuring the success of her sons as she puts her dignity aside to do anything she can to look after them.

Starting with Im Hwa Ryung looking uncomfortable and angered, she says while gritting her teeth, “Do you know what kind of day it is today…” She rushes in to wake up her youngest son prince Il Young (Park Ha Joon) and instructs him to get ready. She adds a threat, saying, “If not, you’re done, and I’m done.”

In addition to the queen, various concubines and palace ladies prepare their sons for greatness with a new face-washing technique that is expected to improve one’s studies. However, all of the queen’s hard work goes to waste when the princes continue to be uncooperative. Prince Sung Nam (Moon Sang Min) firmly denies her with a straight face while prince Mu Ahn (Yoon Sang Hyun) sweetly asks, “Please help me get married first!”

Despite being incredibly frustrated, queen Im Hwa Ryung powers through. Taking care of herself with all sorts of medicine, the queen starts studying on behalf of her sons as she competitively comments, “If I lose, I can’t sleep.”
