Bad Hair Day: Kdrama edition

 

Chingus, we've all been there! Those days when you just want to wear a beanie or a baseball cap to cover up your hair. Bad hair day! Ugh!

 

So it should come as no surprise that also kdramas have them. Sometimes for 16 episodes - or even 50.

Let's take a look at the unfortunate hairstyles we've seen over the years in kdramas.

 

Which are the worst in your opinion? Which made you laugh? Which made you want to call the drama's hairstylist and tell them you're coming over to fix that actor's hair? Before more damage is done to our poor eyes?

They changed his hairstyle like 5 times during the drama. We think it's hair extensions gone wrong.

Marilyn cosplay. They should have started off by making sure that the blonde wig was fitting snugly. 'Cause girl, we can see your real hairline.

 

3) Shin So Yul - Reply 1997

No words.

 

4) Yoon Eun Hye - Marry Him If You Dare (Mirae's Choice)

Forget choosing between 2 men, she should have chosen something else than an unfortunate hairstyle.

 

5) Lee Sung Kyung - Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

The bowl cut never looked good on anyone. This is no exception.

 

6) Kim Ji Won - Fight For My Way

Apparently viewers hated her bangs?

 

7) Kim Go Eun - Cheese in the Trap

Some didn't like her hair color, others didn't like her hairstyle. We blame the original webtoon.

 

8) Chae Rim - Oh My Lady!

Apparently you're an ahjumma if you have a hairstyle like this? 

 

9) Kim Go Eun - Yumi's Cells

Repeat offender #2 (webtoon to blame once again)

 

10) Every drama with wispy see-through bangs

Many probably hope that this Korean hairstyle trend will disappear forever?

"My hair is 2008. Your hair is 2000 and late"

 

12) The cast of Itaewon Class

It's cool to have a bad hair day!

 

13) Every drama with a bowl cut

If it doesn't look good on Hwang Jung Eum, it won't look good on anyone. Just sayin'

 

14) Go Ara - Reply 1994

15) Kim Ju Hyeon - Modern Farmer

Those bangs would prevent anyone from seeing that you're holding a snake.

Looks like chlorine bleached the tips of this water god's hair. Maybe use a swimming cap from now on?

 

2) Song Joong Ki - Arthdal Chronicles

Will they keep this hairstyle in season 2?

 

3) Lee Jong Suk - Pinocchio

Apparently they changed his hairstyle later. Phew!

 

4) Lee Hong Ki - You're Beautiful

Some loved it. Some hated it. We think only 5 year olds look good in the hairstyle on the right.

 

5) So Ji Sub - I'm Sorry I Love You

Repeat offender #3 - So Ji Sub at it again.

 

6) Kim Soo Hyun - Dream High

Just a headband missing and we swear that this hairstyle took inspiration from So Ji Sub's hair in I'm Sorry I Love You.

 

7) Yoon Shi Yoon - Psychopath Diary

Looks more like a helmet, than hair. Or a fluffy mop.

 

8) Lee Seung Gi - A Korean Odyssey (Hwayugi)

Repeat offender #4

 

9) Yoo Ah In - Chicago Typewriter

To be fair, his 1930s hairstyle was amazing.

 

10) Park Hae Soo - Prison Playbook

Another bowl cut. Quelle surprise! Said no one. Ever.

 

11) Jang Hyuk - Fated To Love You

Some people disliked this hairstyle. We know he was shooting a sageuk at the same time, hence the longer hair.

 

12) Lee Jun Ki - Time Between Dog and Wolf

Oppa?

 

13) Jang Geun Suk - Bel Ami (Pretty Man)

Repeat offender #5 (we could dedicate an event to just Jang Geun Suk's hairstyles to be fair)

To be fair, some of the guys in the video have hairstyles that match many actors' hair in this event.

Hmm, among the choices, my eyes are hurt by the mismatched hair colour and skin tone, and second, hairstyle that don't match the facial structure as a whole.

 

Makes me question whether they did any look test before filming?

LOL, I don't know, don't even want to think how much time it took to style it that way. These actresses must have demanded an expert's hair care every time they're done filming for the day!

 

At least I'm seeing better hairstyling now in costume dramas. Somewhere I've read that it started with shampoo hair Mark Chao's Ye Hua, whose silk wig was the costliest prop of the drama.

This event is hilarious. But I don`t pay attention to the hairstyles. I know that some people can`t watch a kdramas because of the bad hair but I can ignore it. Every time  I see the same hairstyle on male characters who are playing good people. You have this hairstyle and it is sure you are not a villain.

I'm usually quite tolerable towards hair styling. However it's always a pleasure to watch if the creators really put a lot of effort in this area.

What I really don't like in this department is crazy things, for example "gigantomania" of all sorts ( like @MayanEcho and @partyonjust showed us they did it in cdrama Untouchable Lovers)- it's just too much of everything;  and I also don't appreciate "crow's nest" type of styling, especially for boys - smth like

The main problem to solve I suppose is always not to overdo things up there and keep in mind you are actually putting it on a human being, so make him as beautiful as you can).

LOL! That hairstyle and lipstick. He's a villain in that drama, right? Honestly, there was no need for the horrible hairdo and makeup. They should have just let him be the beautiful antagonist that he was. For me, it's more of an impact when the seemingly innocent and gorgeous is the devil all along.

 

As he plays the deity, his styling as DHDJ was such a contrast to that red and purple look.

This is the funniest poll this year.
 

The sageuk hairstylists just went out and grabbed a few women's wigs. They are long and straggly and the actors look like they are trying to figure out how to peep through.

 

Then the spiky look with the grubby face. That's for the hoi polloi. The first time that I saw that hairstyle was in the market places of Dae Jang Geum. It gets repeated in other shows.

 

But I actually like the 'bowl style' for some actors. It's sleek and smooth, makes old people look less old. Of course, the ones with short mid forehead fringe looks like someone hacks it himself, like the actress who won the best actress.
