Kim Seo Hyung’s upcoming drama “Paper Moon” (literal translation) has unveiled new teasers!

 

Based on the Japanese novel of the same name (“Kami no Tsuki”) by Mitsuyo Kakuta, Genie TV’s “Paper Moon” is a suspense thriller drama about a woman named Yoo Yi Hwa who has lived a comfortable life without deprivation and desire. Her ordinary but suffocating daily life becomes irrevocably twisted as she starts working as a contract employee at a bank.

 

Kim Seo Hyung will star as Yoo Yi Hwa, a housewife whose husband doesn’t seem interested in her. Feeling bored, she gets a job as a contract employee at a savings bank and gradually regains her confidence. However, she unexpectedly begins to embezzle the VIP customers’ money, causing her to get tangled up in an irreversible catastrophe.

 

The drama’s latest poster captures Yoo Yi Hwa in her work uniform on the subway. Her solemn expression perfectly matches the statement on the poster that reads, “Abandoning my real self for fake happiness.”

 

 

“Paper Moon” has also shared a new preview that teases the “beautiful collapse” of Yoo Yi Hwa’s life. As her life becomes consumed by repeated encounters with a mysterious man, Yoo Yi Hwa asks him, “If god were to grant you a wish, what would you wish for?” He responds, “For us to not meet again.”

 

Yoo Yi Hwa’s life takes another turn when she begins to embezzle her VIP customers’ money. While this leaves her laughing heartily in one moment, she’s left silent and deep in thought while clutching onto a wad of bills in the next.

New promos have been released for ENA’s suspense thriller Paper Moon, including a new poster and video teaser of our heroine Kim Seo-hyung (Mine) as well as her young paramour Lee Shi-woo (Hi Bye, Mama!).

The novel adaptation has Kim in the role of Yoo Yi-hwa, a woman who has long lost her sense of self and has silently been suffering in her lonely marriage to Gong Jung-hwan (Imitation). Unsure of who she is or what she even wants, she takes a chance on an unexpected job opportunity and begins working at a bank. But on her journey to find happiness for herself, Yi-hwa finds herself taking dangerous risks and crosses boundaries that she can’t turn back from.

 

 

The new teaser begins with scenes from Yi-hwa’s affair, meeting Yoon Min-jae (Lee Shi-woo) in secret and not noticing her ring slipping off. We then pause on a moment in the rain when Yi-hwa offered her umbrella to Min-jae. She asks, “If God was granting you one wish, what would you ask for?” And he replies, “To never meet again.”

In the next sequence, we watch as Yi-hwa starts sneaking money from the bank, expressing both glee and trepidation. The intermittent text screens read: “My life crumbled beautifully.” As the music comes to a stop, the teaser then ends on our heroine looking up at the moon at night.

With scripts by Noh Yoon-su and directing helmed by PD Yoo Jong-sun (Secret Royal Inspector and Joy, Designated Survivor: 60 Days) and filmmaker Jung Won-hee (Doom Doom), ENA’s Paper Moon will be launching next month in April.

After meeting Min-jae (played by Lee Si-woo), Lee-hwa's life changes drastically. It’s official: Bora will be appearing in Kim Seo Hyung’s upcoming drama “Paper Moon“!

On March 30, Bora’s agency KeyEast officially announced that she would be appearing in ENA’s new drama “Paper Moon.” The former SISTAR member was first rumored to be attached to the project back in December, but the report went unconfirmed at the time.

Based on the Japanese novel of the same name, “Paper Moon” is a suspense thriller starring Kim Seo Hyung as Yoo Yi Hwa, a bank employee who lived a suffocating life before making the irrevocable decision to embezzle funds from her bank’s VIP clients.

Bora will be playing the role of Lee Roo Ri, a fellow bank employee who dislikes Yoo Yi Hwa for no particular reason—and who expresses her dislike through catty behavior and snide remarks.

“I’m delighted to be able to be part of ‘Paper Moon,’ a drama based on a famous novel,” said Bora. “I myself am also really looking forward to seeing how ‘Paper Moon’ turns out. I think it was a drama that allowed me to personally grow in many ways during filming. I’m so happy and grateful that I was able to join such a great project and play the role of Roo Ri. I hope that these positive feelings of mine are conveyed well to viewers. Please cheer on and look forward to our drama.”

Reasons to watch: ENA has been all over the map with their offerings thus far, and I’m loving it. With Paper Moon, we have a Japanese novel adaptation that looks both artful and harrowing, and I must say the promos have done a brilliant job of establishing the drama’s aesthetic (not to mention that firehose of drama). But is there ever a reason not to watch Kim Seo-hyung? Here she plays a housewife in a dead marriage to Gong Jung-hwan. When she tries to push back into the world again, she starts working at a bank, and that’s where our story really begins. From the looks of it, a love affair, insider thievery, and a whole lot of emotional upheaval are in store for our heroine (and us).

It’s pretty clear that Paper Moon is going to be a wildly dramatic ride, but what has me most interested are the moments of quiet desperation that we’ve gotten glimpses of. After all, what’s a story of a women’s life “crumbling beautifully” without a piercing look into her soul? The drama also stars Yoo Sun, Lee Chun-hee, and rookie Lee Shi-woo (whom you may remember from his supporting roles in Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol and Hi Bye Mama) as her young paramour.
