I think they reduced the episodes with the idea that they will make the second season. I am sure that there will be the second season. Time will tell if I am right.

I wanted the show to continue so it'd be great to have a second season. I'm just bummed out over reduction of episodes because it was a well-made show. They probably didn't have any ideas on how to fill up the story in Ep.s 13 & 14 without resolving / revealing the 'justice/revenge' bit on his dad/fiance'.....( could it be that there's a huge behind the scenes scandal they are not disclosing which necessitated the closure of the program?!!)

One Dollar Lawyer: Episode 9

by missvictrix

ODL9_1.jpg

After our drama within a drama, we return to the present day where our one dollar lawyer is still his zany self. This week in another standalone case, our band of good guys takes on a fraudulent car dealership network, which is fertile ground for laughs, cameos, and PPL.

EPISODE 9 WEECAP

First things first: in one of the strangest turns of drama fate yet, One Dollar Lawyer has been cut to a 12-episode drama (instead of 14). Yes, you read that right. We’ve seen episodes cut from currently airing dramas before, but that’s always been because a drama was tanking hard; obviously, the opposite is true here, with One Dollar Lawyer getting super high numbers. The production stated they were doing it to wrap up the story with greater impact, but honestly, I’m left wondering if there’s more going on behind the scenes than we’re privy to. Either way, we get Episode 9 this week, Episode 10 next week, and then the finale episodes back to back the following week.

Jumping into Episode 9… well actually, that’s exactly what we do — jump right back into the drama after our foray into Tragic Backstory. I wasn’t quite sure how the drama would handle its tonal shifts, and now I know the answer: it doesn’t. We just go right back to the wacky and comedic tone from our first five episodes and that’s that.

Prosecutor Na ties up Ji-hoon’s tale, and Mari is a drunken sobbing mess after hearing it all, especially since the story behind the one dollar lawyer office has been colored in for her. Ji-hoon comes to pick her up, and she stares at him with this maudlin gaze and the music comedically shifts to a surge of sad strings only to jerk off just as quickly as it came.

She’s a little less sympathetic and emotional when she’s sober the next day, but Ji-hoon can tell something’s up. Why is she being so nice? Why is she offering to make him his PPL coffee? He decides that she’s brown-nosing and he says he won’t fall for it. Mari denies it but doesn’t tell him all that she knows; still, I think we can assume that Ji-hoon knows what’s up. But it doesn’t really matter for the plot — at least not yet.

Meanwhile, Moo-jang gets himself into a load of trouble when his little van breaks down and he needs replacement. He finds a real beaut online and goes to a lot to check it out and meet with the seller. And, for some reason, this turns into our case of the week. It’s also prime territory for a ton of cameos from The Veil (where Namgoong Min and Kim Ji-eun and Park Jin-woo previously starred), so that was definitely the highlight for me.

The case itself consisted of Moo-jang first getting scammed, and then Ji-hoon finding out about it. But, in true Ji-hoon fashion, instead of going about it in a straightforward method, he plays their game, and even goes so far as to get him and his “cousin” Mari jobs there. So they can investigate. Because they’re not suspicious at all.

The ongoing legal K-Drama "One Dollar Lawyer" has been sweeping the charts with its high ratings!

And with only 3 episodes left, the drama is keeping fans on the edge of their seats with its dynamic plot.

"One Dollar Lawyer" revolves around a great lawyer whose professional fee costs only a thousand Korean won (roughly $1 USD). He is one of the most skilled lawyers in the country and he usually battles against expensive lawyers and rich clients who break the law.

4XOzJ_2f.jpg

Spoiler alert: The article may give out spoilers from some of the episodes!

Cheon Ji Hun Playing Bingo

In episode 3, When Cheon Ji Hun (Namkoong Min) challenges CEO Mo Tae Yong (Jung Kyu Soo) to a bingo game, Ji Hoon had a slim chance to win.

So, what does our clever "One Dollar Lawyer" do? He dictates Korean laws to his caller, Baek Ma Ri (Kim Ji Eun).

In the middle of the game, Cheon Ji Hun starts dictating Baek Ma Ri Korean laws. And clever Baek Ma Ri understands his intentions and guesses the numbers he needs to win the game.

This clever trick won him the game, and as promised by CEO Mo Tae Yong, Cheon Yeong Bae (Kim Hyung Mook) was expelled from the company.

And once again, Cheon Ji Hun proved that he is a lawyer you shouldn't mess with.

Cheon Ji Hun, Baek Ma Ri, and Sa Mu Jang Investigating the Crime Scene

In episode 4, Cheon Ji Hun bravely tells that he will be going to the crime site, and commands Baek Ma Ri and Sa Mu Jang (Park Jin Woo) to join him.

Funny enough, Cheon Ji Hun also tells them to address him as Detective Cheon.

But when the three of them are standing at the gate of the house (of the crime site), Baek Ma Ri fearlessly walks in but our "Detective Cheon" and Sa Mu Jang stand frozen at the sight of the house.

Sa Mu Jang says, "My legs are cramping up". And our brave Detective Cheon gives an excuse saying, "It's too dark, so I'll come back later".

Watching them investigate the crime scene while trying to hide their fears made the entire scene funny and exciting to watch.

Cheon Ji Hun Deciphering the Audio

In episode 5, Cheon Ji Hun is watching the video taken by Baek Ma Ri trying to decipher it.

He comes up with the conclusion that the ladies in the video (Kim Su Yeon and Han Jae Sook) are talking about the squid price while sitting at an expensive restaurant. And after guessing wrong, he even flaunts his "rare talent".

Then Baek Ma Ri brings a labiomancy report and reveals the actual conversation that took place in the video between Kim Su Yeon(Han Dong Hee) and her maid Han Jae Sook (Lee Hyun Seo).

This scene is another example of how lawyer Cheon Ji Hun never misses a chance to play around.

Namgoong Min, Kim Ji Eun, And Park Jin Woo Team Up To Confront A Lying Culprit In “One Dollar Lawyer”

Namgoong Min, Kim Ji Eun, and Park Jin Woo are set to team up in the upcoming episode of “One Dollar Lawyer”!

SBS’s “One Dollar Lawyer” stars Namgoong Min as Cheon Ji Hoon, a lawyer who only charges an attorney’s fee of 1,000 won (approximately $0.72) despite his renowned skills. A hero who comes to the rescue of clients without money or connections, Cheon Ji Hoon isn’t afraid of facing off against the rich and powerful who use expensive lawyers to escape the law.

Ahead of Episode 10, “One Dollar Lawyer” has shared a preview of the Cheon Ji Hoon, Baek Ma Ri (Kim Ji Eun), Sa Moo Jang (Park Jin Woo) “Cheon Baek Sa” trio, who have teamed up in order to find out who murdered Cheon Ji Hoon’s ex-girlfriend Lee Joo Young (Lee Chung Ah).

The new photos show the trio visiting Jo Woo Seok (Jeon Jin Oh), who is currently in police custody for the murder of Lee Joo Young. Jo Woo Seok had initially turned himself in for murdering Lee Joo Young on the subway for no reason, but Cheon Ji Hoon, who encountered the criminal, is positive that Jo Woo Seok has made a false confession. The straight faces with which the trio stares down Jo Woo Seok perfectly captures the tense nature of this confrontation. Cheon Ji Hoon looks nervous as he focuses on Jo Woo Seok’s mouth, raising curiosity. Will this trio be able to learn anything about the real culprit through Jo Woo Seok?

What is the famous scene in which the three of 'Won Thousand Lawyer' challenged even the vocal imitation while filming?

30000801461_1280.jpg

The friendly atmosphere of the set of the drama 'One Thousand Dollar Lawyer' is attracting attention.

Today (3rd) 'SBS Catch' YouTube channel, SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'One Thousand Dollar Lawyer' making video was released.

In the video, actors Namgoong-min, Kim Ji-eun, and Park Jin-woo were caught in a scene while monitoring the 9th drama together during a break and burst into laughter.

In this scene, the general manager (Jin-Woo Park) was being scammed by a used car, and then on the road, he said, "I am the owner of this car! I bought a car today, and this is the car! I am the owner of this car."

Kim Ji-eun, who watched this together, asked Namgoong-min, "Let's see (that scene) one more time," and Namgoong-min played the scene again.

Spoiler

Park Jin-woo's realistic acting made Kim Ji-eun laugh by mimicking "I'm the owner of this car", and Namgoong-min followed Park Jin-woo's lines until just before filming began, bringing laughter to the staff at the scene.

Also, Namgoong-min left an ad-lib for Baek-ma-ri (Kim Ji-eun) at the filming site on that day and made an NG.

When Kim Ji-eun expressed her sadness to Namgoong-min, he repeated "I'm sorry", and in the resumed filming, he showed an ad-lib more confidently.

With only two episodes left until the end, 'A Thousand Dollar Lawyer' will be canceled tomorrow (4th) due to the formation of the SBS social contribution knowledge sharing project '2022 D Forum'. Episode 11 and the final episode will be aired on the 5th and 11th at 10 PM.

Namgoong Min Does As The Parisians Do In “One Dollar Lawyer”

New stills for the upcoming episode of “One Dollar Lawyer” have been released!

Spoilers

The latest stills from the upcoming episode show Cheon Ji Hoon in a completely different environment, relaxing as he spends his time in Paris. While he still maintains an air of stoic professionalism, Cheon Ji Hoon can also be seen casually enjoying a book while sipping on espresso at a Paris cafe, trading his sunglasses in for a pair of horn-rimmed glasses as he enjoys the afternoon sunlight.

namgoong-min-1.jpeg

However, viewers will probably be more than a little confused by Cheon Ji Hoon’s sudden transformation. In episode 10, the lawyer was shown to be uncovering the identity of Cha Min Cheol (Kwon Hyuk Bum), who killed his lover Lee Joo Young (Lee Chung Ah). After spotting Cha Min Cheol at a VIP party, Cheon Ji Hoon was overcome by uncontrollable anger and need for vengeance, causing him to approach Cha Min Cheol with a knife.

One Dollar Lawyer: Episode 11

by missvictrix

ODL11_1.jpg

With our penultimate episode comes a wake-up call for our one dollar lawyer, and a rift in the team that he didn’t know how much he needed.

EPISODE 11 WEECAP

Before we get to the very tense steak knife moment, we back up a bit in time to see Moo-jang inserting himself into Ji-hoon’s investigation. He takes advantage of being mistaken for a waiter (which was lol) to do some sneaking around. Between Moo-jang’s spying and Mari’s chaebol connections, we learn that this evil dude is CHA MIN-CHEOL, once secretary of the JQ Group chairman, and now the CEO of Cayman Fund, which basically screams money laundering scheme.

Ji-hoon, we learn, dropped the knife, and instead went to the restroom to douse himself with cold water, as one does. But after he reappears on the scene, we get the reveal of our big bad CEO (cameo by Joo Seok-tae who is basically the eternal creepy bad guy). Ji-hoon knows immediately this is the man behind his father’s death, and bids 100 million won for a dinner with him. Ji-hoon can sure throw money around when he needs to.

That night, though, he stakes out Min-cheol, and they quickly go from heated stand-off to life or death fight. Min-cheol pulls a knife, but Ji-hoon has been hiding some seriously stellar combat skills and he easily overpowers Min-cheol. But when he gets the knife in his hands, Ji-hoon is this close to murdering the man. He’s only stopped by the memory of Joo-young, and he tells Min-cheol: the woman you murdered just saved your life.

For a short scene, it was not only really well shot, but it brought a massive wave of repercussions for Ji-hoon. He calls off his 100 million won dinner, and then, in an odd moment in the office with Moo-jang and Mari, he takes off his sunglasses and puts them on her. The question he leaves her with is: what would you do if the person you most respected did an unthinkable evil. Mari thinks he’s referring to his father; we know he’s referring to her grandfather. But it’s the sunglasses exchange that’s more powerful than the dialogue here. It’s as if Ji-hoon is offering her the protection and cover he himself needed to get through a horrible time in his life.

Verdict on Ep.s 9-10-11-and most likely 12:

I don't care what ratings it's still getting, the drama has lost its mojo and track, and lost it big, it has sunk in a hole it cannot get out of no matter what rabbit is pulled in Ep. 12.

The van problem in Ep. 9 and then the 'suspects' from Ep.10, and the '1 year later' from Ep.11 were all fillers and waste of time. And totally not required.

This is not the 'high' finish promised when they cut the episodes from 14 to 12!!!! God, nothing is tight in this drama anymore, and nobody's actions make sense either and it isn't even all that much 'fun'.

I had a hard time understanding why Mari Baek reminisce about losing CJH after working with him on only 3 cases? And why the manager Sa-Mu Jang not confront CJH about all the money he had and not giving SMJ a penny for work? (apart from not paying rent to poor street women), and why was CJH so dramatic about the murderer when he knows he can get him and the JQ CEO through legal means, like he always does. And what about Min Hyeok's proposal ambitions? A year passed and nothing changed? Why was the 1-year jump required if not for the fact that the writers lost the plot and didn't know how to move forward?

Just bad bad bad episodes one after the other. Ep. 11 didn't even have the urgency of a second-to-last episode. I watched Ep. 11 three days after it aired, that is how much I've lost interest in this drama.

The drama just couldn't decide what it wanted to be or how to take everything forward with these really great 3 lead characters.

Prediction: CJH will be arrested for the knife guy's murder. And CEO JQ will live on for season 2, in which Mari Baek will represent CJH at trial. Either way, I don't expect anything from this drama anymore.

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.  I certainly agree that it has lost some of its momentum with the changes in broadcasting schedule and number in episodes.   That said, I still think the drama has a lot going for it in spite of all the challenges thrown at it by SBS.   For example, the transition from the very sad and emotional scene of JH losing JY in Ep 8 to the funny Mari and JH interaction in the beginning of Ep 9 was no less than brilliant in my opinion.

Again, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion but mine is that it is still a great drama that so far has managed to beat all the challenges thrown at it. Namkoong Min's superb acting alone is more than enough to drive the team forward.

Namgoong Min, Kim Ji Eun, And More Share Gratitude For “One Dollar Lawyer” In Sweet Closing Comments

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t
Nov 11, 2022
by S. Cho

The lead stars of “One Dollar Lawyer” have expressed their admiration for the drama in their closing comments!

On November 11, the SBS drama aired its final episode and the five main cast members of “One Dollar Lawyer” shared their farewell comments.

In his lead role as Cheon Ji Hoon, Namgoong Min solidified his title as “the trustworthy Namgoong.” He commented, “To me, ‘One Dollar Lawyer’ is a project that’s like growing pains. I felt a lot while filming and felt a sense of responsibility for this project, so it was created while director Kim Jae Hyun and I relied on each other until the end. I also feel so grateful for my colleagues who trusted me and came running in an instant.”

He added, “In my spot, I am always silently thinking, ‘What can I do to showcase even better acting? What can I do to show an even greater project?’ and moving forward, little by little.”

Namgoong-Min.jpeg

Through “One Dollar Lawyer,” Kim Ji Eun earned praise from viewers who now refer to the drama as the actress’s rediscovery. She remarked, “It was a happy time to have been able to participate in a project I sincerely wanted to join from the moment I read the script, and that an actress named Kim Ji Eun was able to portray Baek Ma Ri. This was such a memorable set, to the point where I hope to work on it once again if the opportunity arises. Beyond from my career as an actress, this was a really memorable project to me as a person. That’s thanks to everyone who was with me on set.”

Looking to the future, Kim Ji Eun shared, “This was a period where I grew and learned as an actress. I will grow so that I can share everything I learned in this space through various projects and return even cooler.”

Kim-Ji-Eun.jpeg

Despite kicking off the series as an apparent villain, Choi Dae Hoon surprised fans with his character Seo Min Hyuk who turned out to be sweet and lovable. He commented, “This was both a long and short period of time. I’m thankful we were able to finish safely, without any incidents. This was a time when I learned a lot and had a lot of realizations.”

Park Jin Woo shared, “Just as enjoyably as everyone watched, our set was a competitive set where you could find fun and touching emotions. I felt accomplished while filming, so I don’t think I’ll be able to forget [this drama].”

Lastly, Gong Min Jung remarked, “The period I got to work with directors Kim Jae Hyun and Shin Joong Hoon was so warm. I’m thankful to the screenwriter who created my character Na Ye Jin and I feel lots of gratitude for all the actors and staff members I worked with.”

One Dollar Lawyer: Episode 12 (Final)

by missvictrix

ODL12_1.jpg

Though curtailed in length and confused in tone, One Dollar Lawyer completes its run and tries its hardest to not only tie up loose ends, but keep doing what it once did well. And while the ends are indeed tied, unfortunately all the hullabaloo behind the scenes has really shown in the drama’s production, and I’m left not entirely sure what it is I just watched.

EPISODE 12 WEECAP

One Dollar Lawyer: Episode 12 (Final)

Jumping right in where we left off, Ji-hoon and Mari visit Min-cheol in his swanky office. It’s meant to threaten him — and it does — but Ji-hoon acts like a doofus. Though he notices the stacks of cash on the desk, he winds up leaving the encounter with a stack of blank paper for his printer. Such is Ji-hoon.

Our wacky team of three reconnoiter at Ji-hoon’s fancy apartment home. Say what?! Yes, it’s our finale, and we’ve finally got eyes on where (and how) Ji-hoon lives. Moo-jang doesn’t fail to point this out, and I love the self-reference here. It’s as if the drama is saying, “I know we never showed you this properly, so here ya go, we’ll make a joke of it.”

While the team goes over their plans, Mari stares blankly at the photo of Grandpa Baek on Ji-hoon’s investigation wall-window. He quickly tears it down and says her grandpa is innocent — which leads to her surprise that he knows who she is, and Ji-hoon’s apt reply: “Did you think I was dumb?”

To further convince us that Grandpa Baek is A-OK, we get a flashback to a recent conversation with him and Ji-hoon where he says that he wants Mari to be part of a world where the outcome isn’t already decided (i.e., each case rigged by corruption and blackmail).

This becomes important later, because in a nice moment, he secretly helps Mari hack Baek Law Firm’s own database to find the incriminating information for which Joo-young once lost her life. Mari finds it, secures it, and shares it with Ji-hoon and it’s exactly the evidence they need regarding all the JQ Group nonsense.

Meanwhile (and a little earlier), we spend much of the episode with Ji-hoon and Min-cheol. First, our team sets on a hilarious mission to make him and Ji-hoon look chummy, which is about the most ridiculous plan out there. But it works, and when Evil CEO finds out, he kicks Min-cheol to the curb. Except our team — and our lovely Prosecutor Na and Min-hyuk — are there to get as much information and aid out of Min-cheol as they can.

Then, what we totally expect to happen happens. Min-cheol looks like he’s screwed over Ji-hoon and the gang, and Ji-hoon looks like he’s about to get shot by Evil CEO during The Ultimate Showdown. But really, Ji-hoon and the prosecution are already several steps ahead. The whole scheme has been planned in order to get a nice tidy confession out of the CEO, which happens just as soon as his hubris gets the better of him (convenient, but buyable). Now, Evil CEO can rot in jail for ordering the murder of Joo-young, among his other crimes.
