Plot

 

Drama “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong” depicts a type of psychiatry that brings comfort to not only the patients, but even the people surrounding the patient in the midst of a world that pushes everyone to give up on sanity. It will be a rare drama that deals with the psychiatric practices of the Joseon era.

Yoo Se-poong (Kim Min Jae) is Joseon’s most favored royal physician. He was once most skilled at acupuncture, outstanding acupuncture skills and a gentle appearance, Yoo Se Poong is a star doctor for the royal family, but due to a psychological trauma, he now trembles whenever he touches a needle

 

“Jack-of-all-trades and unexpected widow Seo Eun Woo, she deduces the stories of those who are heartbroken.”

Kim Min Jae and Kim Hyang Gi may be teaming up for their next drama!

On November 22, a source from the broadcasting industry stated, “Kim Min Jae and Kim Hyang Gi have been cast in ‘Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong’ and will start filming next January.”

In response, Kim Min Jae’s agency YAMYAM Entertainment and Kim Hyang Gi’s agency Jikim Entertainment commented that the actors “received offers to star in the drama and are positively reviewing the offer.”

“Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong” (literal title) is tvN’s new drama based on a novel of the same title. The drama depicts a type of psychiatry that brings comfort to not only the patients, but even the people surrounding the patient in the midst of a world that pushes everyone to give up on sanity. According to JTBC News, Kim Min Jae will be resting and looking over his next project until filming begins next January. He recently wrapped up his drama “Dali and Cocky Prince” with Park Gyu Young. Kim Hyang Gi is set to make her return to the small screen with JTBC’s “Fly Butterfly” (literal title) early next year.

A new drama starring Kim Min Jae, Kim Hyang Gi, and Kim Sang Kyung is coming soon!

On January 27, the production team of tvN’s upcoming drama titled “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong” (literal title) announced, “Kim Min Jae, Kim Hyang Gi, and Kim Sang Kyung are confirmed to star in the drama.”

The new drama depicts the story of Yoo Se Poong, a well-known internal medicine doctor who gets expelled from the royal court after being caught up in a conspiracy. Afterwards, he meets Gye Ji Han and Seo Eun Woo in the strange and beautiful Gyesu village and works to become a true doctor who heals the heart. The drama is based on a novel of the same title.

Kim Min Jae assumes the role of the warm-hearted Yoo Se Poong, who is a chief acupuncturist with skills amazing enough to be called the legend of the royal palace. He also has a gentle appearance like that of a young man from a prestigious family. However, while chasing success, he becomes caught up in an unexpected incident and loses his great ability as an acupuncturist.

Last year, Kim Min Jae took on his first comedic role as Jin Moo Hak in the show “Dali and Cocky Prince,” and he will be making a new transformation into a doctor for this next role. The actor said, “I acted sincerely in order to give some happiness and comfort to viewers. It’s an enjoyable and warm production so please look forward to it and show lots of love.”

Kim Hyang Gi will play the role of Seo Eun Woo, a widow with a twist who infers the stories of those who are heartbroken. As the daughter of a noble family, she has sharp observation skills and extraordinary empathy. Seo Eun Woo feels wronged by her sudden marriage, and in the midst of being in danger of involuntarily becoming a wife who stays virtuous to her deceased husband, she meets Yoo Se Poong and faces dramatic changes. Kim Hyang Gi said, “I think it is a production that will give warmth to both myself and the viewers. I will try my best to show you a good appearance.”

Lastly, Kim Sang Kyung will take on the role of the eccentric doctor, Gye Ji Han. He is the doctor of Sorak village who hides his warmth under a grumpy personality. Although Gye Ji Han makes a bad first impression as someone who seems to be materialistic and obsessed with money, he is actually a sincere person the more you get to know him. Then one day, he will lead Yoo Se Poong towards the path of becoming a true doctor that heals the heart.

When discussing the character, Kim Sang Kyung said, “Gye Ji Han seems like an eccentric doctor, but on the inside, he is a really warm doctor. He is keeping a big secret, so I think he will feel like a charming character to everyone. I will do my best to comfort many people during these difficult times through this work.”

"Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" officially resumes filming a month after its bus accident

Upcoming tvN drama "Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" has resumed filming after the March accident.

On May 11th,  the production team of "Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" shared to news outlet Newsis that the drama already resumed filming about a month after the bus accident. The team shared that they started shooting again last week. They also revealed that the series was supposed to air this July but they are adjusting the schedule for the premiere due to the increase in days of filming. 

On March 31st, the filming team of "Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" got into a huge accident. The bus that they were riding was crushed by a dump truck. The accident happened in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. Because of this accident, a male producer in his 30s died, three other staff got severely injured, and seven others also were hurt. 

Since the accident, main leads Kim Min Jae and Kim Hyang Gi actively asked help for with blood donations on their personal accounts. Currently, the staff is now recovering from hospital treatment. The production company will also hold psychological counseling and treatment for staff at risk of post-traumatic stress disorder together with Studio Dragon who's in charge of planning.

 

 

"Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" will revolve around Yoo Se Poong, a famous member of the parliament and a great psychiatrist in the Joseon era who got ousted after getting involved in an incident that was plotted by the royal family. The series will base its story on the novel of the same name that achieved the award for excellence in the 2016 Korea Story Contest. 

Kim Min Jae will play the role of Yoo Se Poong, the skillful psychiatrist in the Joseon era. Kim Hyang Gi on the other hand will play the role of Seo Eun Woo, a widow that became a psychiatrist.

Based off a novel of the same name, tvN’s upcoming historical drama “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong” (literal title) depicts the story of Yoo Se Poong (Kim Min Jae), a well-known internal medicine doctor who gets expelled from the royal court after being caught up in a conspiracy. Afterwards, he meets Seo Eun Woo (Kim Hyang Gi) and Gye Ji Han (Kim Sang Kyung) in the strange and beautiful Gyesu village and works to become a true doctor who heals the heart.

Kim Min Jae will star as the warm-hearted, genius acupuncturist Yoo Se Poong. The handsome and talented man earns a job at the royal palace, but gets caught up in an unexpected incident and loses his great ability as an acupuncturist.

Kim Hyang Gi stars as the unexpected widow Seo Eun Woo who infers the stories of those who are heartbroken. In addition to the three leads, “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong” boasts an impressive and exciting full cast lineup. Ahn Chang Hwan will portray servant Man Bok, who only has eyes for Yoo Se Poong. Yoo Sung Joo plays Jo Tae Hak, an expert schemer who does anything it takes to achieve his goals. Jung Won Chang portrays Jo Tae Hak’s adopted son Jo Sin Woo, an inspector who strictly follows all the rules.

Lee Seo Hwan will play Shin Gwi Soo, the ambitious doctor of the king. Jeon Gook Hyang will portray a grandma with dementia, who mistakes Yoo Se Poong for her son. Yeon Bo Ra plays Nam Hae Daek, an excellent cook who looks after the Gyesu village hospital. On June 10th tvN confirmed that Ahn Chang Hwan, Yoo Sung Joo, Jung Won Chang, Lee Seo Hwan, Jeon Guk Hyang, Kim Soo An, and Han Chang Min will be added to the cast of the upcoming drama "Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong." The series will be led by Kim Min Jae, Kim Hyang Gi, and Kim Sang Kyung. 

"Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" will base its story on the novel of the same name.  The novel got the excellence in the 2016 Korea Story Contest. The drama will tell the stories of patients and the people around them. It will showcase comfort amidst a world that renounces conscience. The drama will focus on Yoo Se Poong, a great psychiatrist in the Joseon era. 

The upcoming series will be directed by Park Won Gook and will be penned by Lee Bom ("Drama Stage Season 4: Attention Hog").

Kim Min Jae will portray the main lead role Yoo Se Poong. He is a great psychiatrist in the Joseon era. Kim Hyang Gi will play the role of Seo Eun Woo, a widow that became a psychiatrist.

The drama was supposed to air in July. "Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" began filming early this year. Last March, the filming team got into a huge car accident in  Paju, Gyeonggi Province. The incident caused the life of a male producer in his 30s. Seven other staff also got hurt. Because of this, filming for the series was halted. Last May, it was officially confirmed that the series resumed filming. The staff that was hurt were said to be recovering from hospital treatment and they are also undergoing psychological counseling.

tvN has taken viewers to the script reading of its upcoming historical drama!

Based off a novel of the same name, tvN’s “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong” (literal title) depicts the story of Yoo Se Poong (Kim Min Jae), a well-known internal medicine doctor who gets expelled from the royal court after being caught up in a conspiracy. Afterwards, he meets Seo Eun Woo (Kim Hyang Gi) and Gye Ji Han (Kim Sang Kyung) in the strange and beautiful Gyesu village and works to become a true doctor who heals the heart.

The new making clip gives a look into the first script reading of “Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong” and begins with the cast and crew members nervously introducing themselves.

Kim Min Jae says of his character, “Yoo Se Poong is the chief acupuncturist of the palace hospital.” The handsome and talented man earns a job at the royal palace, but gets caught up in an unexpected incident and loses his great ability as an acupuncturist.

Kim Hyang Gi stars as the unexpected widow Seo Eun Woo. She greets viewers and shares, “Amid the reality of having nowhere to go, the character of Eun Woo meets the people at Gyesu Hospital and captures the image of healing oneself, creating a stronger sense of self, and growing.”

 

 

 

Kim Sang Kyung portrays Gye Ji Han, a money-hungry and eccentric doctor who is also Yoo Se Poong’s teacher. The actor explains, “He feels a bit like a tsundere,” a Japanese term that describes a person who is seemingly cold-hearted before gradually warming up to their surroundings. He continues, “On the outside, he swears a lot and has a rough personality, but when you look at him later, he’s a bit different. On top of that, he also has a secret.”

When they are asked why they chose this drama, Kim Sang Kyung excitedly answers, “It’s a historical drama in addition to a medical drama, a love story, and a mystery.” Kim Hyang Gi adds, “The plot in itself was so interesting. Joseon Dynasty and psychiatry. Through what methods did people back then heal and overcome [psychological struggles]?”

Kim Min Jae shares, “You may think [the drama] would be very serious, but there are a lot of fun, lively, and exciting moments.”

"Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" is confirmed to premiere on August 1.

On June 20th, tvN released the first video teaser of the upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama "Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong." It was also revealed that the series will officially premiere on 1st of August at 10:30 PM KST. 

In the video teaser, main leads  Kim Min Jae, Kim Hyang Gi, and Kim Sang Kyung were seen trying to open a closed door. When the door opens, the trio gave a wide healing smile. Expectations are high of the performance of these psychiatrists in the Joseon era. 

"Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" is based on a novel of the same name. The drama will revolve around Yoo Se Poong, a great psychiatrist in the Joseon era. The series will also showcase the stories of the patients of the psychiatrists and the people around them.

Other casts of the drama include Ahn Chang Hwan, Yoo Sung Joo, Jung Won Chang, Lee Seo Hwan, Jeon Guk Hyang, Kim Soo An, and Han Chang Min. 

The drama will be helmed by director Park Won Gook and written by Lee Bom ("Drama Stage Season 4: Attention Hog"). 

"Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" will air its first episode on August 1, Monday, at 10:30 PM. It will exclusively air on tvN.

For the upcoming series, Kim Min Jae will play the lead role named Yoo Se Pong. He is a skillful psychiatrist in the Joseon era. This will be his follow-up drama after the 2021 series "Dali and the Cocky Prince." 

Kim Hyang Gi on the other hand will portray as Seo Eun Woo, a widower who also decided to become a psychiatrist. Aside from this series, she will also lead the upcoming drama "Flying Butterflies." 

Meanwhile, Kim Sang Kyung will play the role of Kye Ji Han, a doctor from the Sorak village who seems grumpy but actually warmhearted. This is his next drama after the hit series "Racket Boys."

The drama was supposed to air earlier but due to an accident that caused the life of some staff, the filming of the drama was halted. After several circumstances, "Joseon Psychiatrist Yoo Se Poong" will officially be out this August.
