MBC's Black Out drops stills featuring Go Jun

In the K-drama, Go Jun plays Noh Sang Cheol, an elite detective who was demoted to Mucheon City. Noh Sang Cheol was a police officer with a bright future who was assigned to work in the metropolitan investigation unit. But his life fell apart when his bride was brutally murdered on their wedding day. As a result, he impulsively punches criminals and gets into trouble, which leads to his transfer to the rural Mucheon Police Station.

On his first day at work, various incidents occur, and Noh Sang Cheol realizes that everything is connected to a murder case that happened 11 years ago. As he senses the scent of crime in the seemingly quiet rural town of Mucheon, curiosity builds around whether the hound chasing the truth will uncover what really happened 11 years ago.

The released stills give glimpses of the passionate detective Noh Sang Cheol in action. His serious expression while examining documents conveys how dedicated he is to solving the case. With evidence scattered here and there, the truth of the incident remains fragmented like a puzzle, and Noh Sang Cheol's investigative journey to piece it all together draws attention.

Additionally, expectations are high for The Fiery Priest actor's return to the small screen after four years since Cheat On Me, if You Can.

Black Out will premiere on August 16. There is currently no news about the K-drama's global OTT service.

Kim Bo Ra (SKY Castle, Like Flowers in Sand) investigates the truth of a murder case from 11 years ago objectively, free from biased views in Black Out.

Black Out tells the story of a young man, Go Jung Woo, who was branded as a culprit in a murder case, while the corpse was never found. After serving ten years in prison, he now seeks to uncover the truth of the case that turned his life upside down.

In the drama, Kim Bo Ra takes on the role of Ha Seol, an outsider who comes to Mucheon City. Ha Seol, who took a leave of absence from medical school and traveled nationwide on a scooter, was drawn to the peaceful village of Mucheon City and settled down there. She is skilled with her hands and has a good sense of humor. Ha Seol works part-time at Mucheon  Garden, a restaurant where Go Jung Woo's (Byun Yo Han) mother works, blending naturally with the locals.

In this setting, when Jung Woo, who was imprisoned for murder, returns to the village, Ha Seol feels a subtle change in the village atmosphere and begins to wonder about the past that everyone has kept silent about. She constantly questions the case, including the missing body and the motive for the crime, as well as the villagers who try to conceal them, piquing curiosity about whether she can uncover the secret of Mucheon City.

The stills give a glimpse of her exploring Mucheon.

After having spent an ordinary and quiet day, as night falls, Ha Seol begins to investigate the truth hidden by the villagers alone. Being an outsider with no connections to the village, she untangles the tangled threads from an objective standpoint, aiming to uncover the truth of the case from 11 years ago that everyone was about to forget.

Watch: Byun Yo Han's Life Turns Upside Down After Being Accused Of Murder In Upcoming Drama "Black Out"

Jul 23, 2024

MBC’s upcoming drama “Black Out” has unveiled a new teaser depicting Byun Yo Han’s life changing after a shocking event!

Adapted from the best-selling German mystery novel “Snow White Must Die,” “Black Out” is a crime thriller drama that follows the story of a young man accused of murder in a mysterious case where no corpses were found. 11 years later, he embarks on a journey to uncover the truth of that fateful day. The drama stars Byun Yo Han, Go Joon, Go Bo Gyeol, Kim Bo Ra, and more.

The new teaser reveals a dramatic change in Go Jung Woo’s (Byun Yo Han’s) life, shifting from a well-regarded model student to the target of the town’s disdain. The teaser shows Jung Woo as a high school student who excels in sports and academics, earning the town’s admiration and fostering a close-knit, family-like atmosphere as they celebrate his acceptance into medical school.

This harmony is shattered when a murder changes the town’s view of Jung Woo. Despite his claims of not remembering the event, the town’s response is cold and dismissive, with remarks such as, “Your sins don’t go away.”

The different reactions of the townspeople toward Go Jung Woo add to the intrigue. Some point fingers at him with fear and anger, while others cast suspicious glances, hinting at a possible hidden secret in the town. Amid the growing tension, Jung Woo’s determined declaration, “I’ll find the culprit first,” highlights his strong desire for the truth and shifts focus to the tragedy that has upended the once-peaceful community.

20240730033038_black-out-teaser.jpg?s=90Watch: Byun Yo Han And Go Joon Struggle To Solve A Murder Mystery In Teaser For Upcoming Drama "Black Out"

Jul 30, 2024

MBC’s upcoming drama “Black Out” has unveiled a thrilling new teaser!

The newly released teaser video begins with Detective Noh Sang Chul (Go Joon) watching Go Jung Woo (Byun Yo Han), who has just completed a 10-year prison sentence for murder. Sang Chul claims that Jung Woo has killed two people, but Jung Woo insists he is not guilty, saying, “I didn’t do it,” leaving viewers questioning whether his claim is true.

Although Go Jung Woo is named as the suspect in the murder case, the truth about the incident from 11 years ago remains unclear. Suspicious text messages suggesting someone may have witnessed the murder are repeatedly sent, and as buried memories begin to resurface, like a skull emerging from dirt, they signal the potential for major upheaval.

Go Jung Woo and Detective Noh Sang Chul continue their efforts to piece together lost memories, with testimonies and DNA tests fueling the investigation. Both men show strong determination, with Go Jung Woo navigating the darkness with a flashlight and Noh Sang Chul inspecting various crime scene locations as curiosity mounts about what really happened in the quiet rural town on the day that changed Go Jung Woo’s life.

However, as Go Jung Woo and Noh Sang Chul pursue the truth, they face threats from shadowy figures. Despite being hit by a car and enduring harassment and violence from locals, they remain committed to their mission. Attention is on whether Go Jung Woo can uncover the truth behind the mysterious murder case, following his promise: “From now on, no matter what comes my way, I will do everything I can to find things out.”

Go Jung Woo (Byun Yo Han), who was convicted of murdering two of his classmates 11 years ago, is shown in his poster surrounded by unknown hands covering his eyes and ears. The poster’s caption reflect his frustration and inability to prove his innocence due to lost memories, reading, “I have no memory of killing them, but… I also have no memory of not killing them.” The tears streaming from behind the hands on his face add to the mystery surrounding his character and what his tears might mean.

Byun Yo Han, Go Joon, Kim Bo Ra, And Go Bo Gyeol Are Entangled In A Web Of Secrets In "Black Out"

Aug 02, 2024
by E Cha

MBC’s upcoming drama “Black Out” has unveiled a new poster of its four leads!

Adapted from the best-selling German mystery novel “Snow White Must Die,” “Black Out” is a crime thriller starring Byun Yo Han as a young man accused of murder in a mysterious case where no corpses were found. 11 years later, he embarks on a journey to uncover the truth behind that fateful day.

Byun Yo Han will star as Go Jung Woo, who has just completed a 10-year prison sentence for the murders of two of his classmates. Because Go Jung Woo has no memories of the night in question, he doesn’t remember killing his classmates, but he also doesn’t remember not killing them—leading him to set off on a dangerous quest to figure out what really happened.

When Go Jung Woo returns to his hometown after being released from prison, no one is happy to see him—and that includes Noh Sang Chul (Go Joon), a detective who has just been transferred to the town as part of a demotion. For reasons not readily apparent, Noh Sang Chul is full of hatred for criminals, and so he winds up clashing with the convicted Go Jung Woo at every turn.

Go Bo Gyeol will star in the drama as Choi Na Gyeom, who has always harbored an unrequited love for Go Jung Woo and devotedly supported him throughout his time in prison. Although the two childhood friends grew up together, their lives diverged in entirely different directions after the mysterious murders from 11 years ago: while Go Jung Woo’s life fell apart as he went to prison for murder, Choi Na Gyeom became an A-list actress beloved by the entire nation.

However, despite this drastic change in their circumstances, Choi Na Gyeom still dreams of a happy life with Go Jung Woo after his release from prison, even coming up with plans for him to move to Seoul so they can be together.

Finally, Kim Bo Ra will play the role of Ha Seol, a newcomer to Go Jung Woo’s hometown. Ha Seol is surprised and intrigued when she learns that one of her co-workers at the restaurant where she works part-time has a son who is a convicted murderer. Driven by curiosity, she starts to investigate the murders from 11 years ago—and as an outsider, her objective point of view winds up helping Go Jung Woo in his own search for the truth.

20240808044408_black-out-poster-3.jpg?s=Byun Yo Han And Go Joon Pursue A Common Goal With Different Perspectives In New Drama "Black Out"

Aug 09, 2024

MBC’s upcoming drama “Black Out” has unveiled a new poster of Byun Yo Han and Go Joon!

Adapted from the best-selling German mystery novel “Snow White Must Die,” “Black Out” is a crime thriller drama that follows the gripping story of a young man accused of murder in a mysterious case where no corpses were found. 11 years later, he embarks on a journey to uncover the truth of that fateful day.

The newly released poster shows the differing viewpoints of Go Jung Woo (Byun Yo Han) and Noh Sang Chul (Go Joon) as they pursue what the caption describe as “the truth behind that night, which might have been better left unknown.” Dark shadows on Go Jung Woo’s face represent his confusion as he is unexpectedly labeled a murderer due to lost memories.

In contrast, Noh Sang Chul, who stands behind Go Jung Woo, looks away with a face full of suspicion and dissatisfaction, emphasizing the tension between them. Despite their opposing roles—a convicted murderer and a detective—their mutual goal of uncovering the truth from that fateful day 11 years ago adds intrigue to their tense and complex relationship.

black-out-byun-yo-han-go-joon-poster.jpg

Byun Yo Han commented, “Noh Sang Chul is a character who is suspicious of and hostile toward Go Jung Woo, leading to fights and clashes between them. I believe it was only possible for us to portray the nuances of every moment between our characters because it was Go Joon who was playing Noh Sang Chul.”

Go Joon said, “I’ve always considered Byun Yo Han an excellent actor because of his focus on the situation and his approach to his character.” He added, “As the drama unfolds, Go Jung Woo and Noh Sang Chul become closer, and just like in the drama, Byun Yo Han and I similarly grew closer. I think we became a lot closer toward the end of the drama because we’d been maintaining the tension [between our characters] on set.”

“Black Out” is set to premiere on August 16 at 9:50 p.m. KST.

Actress Kim Bo Ra remarked, “It’s director Byun Young Joo’s first drama series, and it’s also a peak mystery that’s full of amazing acting.”

2. The suspenseful search for missing memories

“Black Out” will follow the unusual story of Go Jung Woo (Byun Yo Han), a model student who is suddenly accused of murdering two of his classmates. Because Go Jung Woo was blackout drunk on the night in question and has no memories of what happened, he doesn’t remember killing his classmates, but he also doesn’t remember not killing them.

After serving a 10-year prison sentence for the murders, Go Jung Woo returns to his hometown and sets off on a dangerous quest to figure out what really happened that night.

Byun Yo Han commented, “What’s fun about the drama is that viewers, together with the characters in the story, can try to solve the mystery of whether Go Jung Woo is the true culprit or, if not, who the real culprit is.”

Go Bo Gyeol chimed in, “You’ll really be able to enjoy watching the drama if you backtrack each and every episode to recover Jung Woo’s lost memories.”

Premiere Watch: Black Out

by missvictrix

AA1oSR6J.img?w=768&h=477&m=6&x=115&y=156

Time slot: Friday-Saturday
Broadcaster: MBC
Genre: Thriller, crime, mystery, action
Episode count: 14
Global Streamer: TBD

Reasons to watch: Another crime thriller, let’s go! Here we have Byun Yo-han convicted of a crime he doesn’t remember committing. After serving his sentence he returns to the village where it all went down to get to the bottom of the mystery. Wronged (or possibly wronged) heroes trying to sort things out and reclaim their lives is a favorite storytelling archetype of mine, so between that and the addition of Go Bo-kyul, Go Joon, Kim Bora, missing memories, and a German novel adaptation, you can color me interested.

TL;DR: Byun Yo-han tries to uncover the crime he’s not sure he actually committed or not
