Lee Dong Wook, Kim Bum, and Kim So Yeon will be the main leads of the upcoming tvN drama "Tale of the Nine-Tailed Season 2."

On April 21, media outlet JoyNews24 shared that Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum will return to the second season of "Tale of the Nine-Tailed." Kim So Yeon will also join the upcoming drama. It was also revealed that the production already held the first script reading on April 18. 

The first season ended in December 2020. The series got decent results and achieved the highest rating of 5.8 percent. "Tale of the Nine-Tailed" was led by  Lee Dong Wook, Kim Bum, Jo Bo Ah, Kim Yong Ji, Hwang Hee, and Kim Jung Nan. Kim So Yeon will replace Jo Bo Ah as the female lead. 

Because the drama became a seasonal system, there will also be a change in the time setting and background. "Tale of the Nine-Tailed Season 2" is set in the 1930s and will tell the story of how Lee Yeon became a mountain god. It will also showcase the back story of Lee Rang. 

Lee Dong Wook will continue to play the character named Lee Yeon. Kim Bum will also continue as the character named Lee Rang. Kim So Yeon on the other hand will play as the owner of the Gyeongseong restaurant Myoyeongak and the former western mountain god. 

The drama will reportedly have a third season. The broadcast date of "Tale of the Nine-Tailed Season 2" has not yet been revealed.

 

 

 

"Tale of the Nine-Tailed Season 2" will be Lee Dong Wook's follow-up project after his 2021 drama "Bad and Crazy" with Wi Ha Joon, Han Ji Eun, VIXX's Cha Hak Yeon, Sung Ji Ru, and Cha Shi Won. He will also join the upcoming movie "Single in Seoul" with Im Soo Jung, Esom, Lee Mi Do, Jang Hyun Sung, and Lee Sang Yi. 

Meanwhile Kim Bum already starred in a drama this year. He was part of the 2022 series "Ghost Doctor" with Rain, After School's Uee, APINK's Son Na Eun, Sung Dong Il, and Tae In Ho. 

This will also be Kim So Yeon's next project after the hit three-part drama "The Penthouse: War in Life." The actress will also reunite with the director and actors of Penthouse in the upcoming film "It’s Alright" with Lee Ji Ah, Uhm Ki Joon, Yoon Jong Hoon, Shin Eun Kyung, and Bong Tae Kyu.

Kdrama fans, “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” and its gorgeous gumihos will soon return to the small screen for a Season 2 with a brand-new female lead.

After months of discussions, “Penthouse” actress Kim So Yeon has officially accepted the female lead role for “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” Season 2. She will once again showcase her outstanding acting skills alongside Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum.

Following these confirmed cast members, it means that “Tailed of the Nine-Tailed” returns with its season 2 with all of its original cast, except for the former female lead, Jo Bo Ah.

The first time rumors about “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” Season 2 appeared, there had been clues that actress Jo Bo Ah would not return to the series as the female lead.

Many fans have felt disappointed with this decision. After all, Lee Dong Wook’s character Lee Yeon has been known to have a long-time affection for Jo Bo Ah’s character Ji Ah. So having his character appear with a different female lead would contradict this plot only for a ship that will never sail.

 

The Suspected Reason Why Jo Bo Ah Did Not Join “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” Season 2

So why didn’t Jo Bo Ah appear as one of the cast members for “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” Season 2?

While there’s no official statement as to the real reason just yet, many fans believe that there are various circumstances behind the reason for Jo Bo Ah’s noninvolvement in “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” Season 2.

 

Firstly, it is possible that Jo Bo Ah did not return for Season 2 because she had agreed to join another project before the production team finalized the plan for “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” Season 2. Therefore, it is basically impossible for her to join the drama.

Secondly, the most suspected reason why Jo Bo Ah does not join “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” Season 2 is that there is no room for her character in the storyline just yet. Since the story would revolve around the Japanese colonial era, A Eum has yet to be reborn as Nam Ji Ah.

 

After all, there are two special requirements if you want your character to return in Season 2: either you’re born in that particular era or one of the gorgeous immortal gumihos. Unfortunately, Jo Bo Ah’s character is not one of them.

 

Will Kim So Yeon Replace Jo Bo Ah?

If that’s the case, does it mean that Kim So Yeon will replace Jo Bo Ah in the “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” Season 2 storyline?

She doesn’t necessarily do.

tvN’s “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” will be back for a new season!

On May 3, it was confirmed that Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum will be returning for Season 2 titled “Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938.” Furthermore, Kim So Yeon and Ryu Kyung Soo will be joining the cast. The new action drama will deliver a different form of enjoyment from Season 1 through a story of the male gumiho (a mythical nine-tailed fox) Yi Yeon (Lee Dong Wook) in the chaotic era of 1938. In addition to an intricately woven tale about Korean mythical beings, the drama will have dynamic action scenes and diverse characters. Director Kang Shin Hyo and scriptwriter Han Woo Ri from Season 1 will be reuniting for the new project.

“Tale of the Nine-Tailed” originally aired at the end of 2020 and starred Lee Dong Wook, Jo Bo Ah, and Kim Bum in a modern fantasy story. Although Yi Yeon found a happy ending with Nam Ji Ah (Jo Bo Ah) in Season 1, he will get swept up in an unexpected incident and get summoned to the year of 1938. Season 2 will depict Yi Yeon’s desperate struggle to return to present day where all the people precious to him are.

Lee Dong Wook will be once again leading the story as the charismatic and romantic Yi Yeon. The actor shared, “I’m happy to be able to take on ‘Tale of the Nine-Tailed’ once again. I worked enjoyably with splendid staff and great actors. Please look forward to it.”

Kim So Yeon, who made a lasting impression through “The Penthouse” series, will be joining the cast of Season 2 as Ryu Hong Joo, the former western mountain goddess and the owner of Myoyeongak, Gyeongseong’s (past Seoul’s) finest restaurant. Raising anticipation for her next transformation with her diverse acting spectrum, Kim So Yeon commented, “I’m very grateful for the fact that I can join and work together on the new season. I’ll work hard on preparing in order to successfully portray the attractive character Ryu Hong Joo.”

Kim Bum will be returning as Yi Rang. Although he resolved his misunderstanding with Yi Yeon in the last season, he is still in his rebellious stage in 1938 when he meets the Yi Yeon from the future. Their relationship will be another important point to anticipate in the second season. Ryu Kyung Soo, who previously starred in “Hellbound,” will be starring as the great doctor Cheon Moo Young who can even save the dead. As the former northern mountain god, he was once the only friend of Yi Yeon and Hong Joo. I tried to watch Penthouse for So yeon also. I don`t like the writer `s style of writing at all . I resisted 4 episodes but I watched her scenes (most of them).

 

From the few informations released, we found out more about the plot of this season. It looks like Ryu Kyung Soo will play the former mountain god himself. He was his friend but then he became his rival. Sort of. I imagined someone older in the role but I am alright seing him in this role. So, he will be one of the antagonists in the story. I like that his character will be three-dimensional. Those are my favorite type of characters. We`ll see the story.

So yeon says that Hong Joo will be an atractive character to play. I hope there is some depth in her. It looks like there is an unrequited love from her part. That can make for a tragic character for herself. If Hong Joo will be a three dimentional character as well, I will be glad. 

 

I can`t believe some viewers predicted right that it will be time travel (Lee Yeon traveled in the past). I don`t know what to think about this senario. Is really necesarry? I never thought it is a possibility because it could easier to follow the story from the past. Maybe there was a tragedy and he will want to undo it. We`ll see.

 

Lee Rang is still rebellious in 1938, as predicted. Perhaps Lee yeon came to the past to safe him.

The time travel bother me. I know this drama is fantasy but adding time travel complicates the story. It is hard to see a satisfying explanation for this and it is hard to deal with two sets of fantasy genre. But let see the writer`s skills.

So in this season 2, time travel for ML and probably no romance with new female lead and he want to return in the present where the people he loves lives, but season 3 is rumored to be in other past also
