tvN's hit drama "Our Blues" tells the life stories of men, women and children in Pureung Village, Jeju Island. After the previous episode set the stage for the conflict between Eun Hee (Lee Jung Eun) and Mi Ran  (Uhm Jung Hwa), this episode exploded through an unexpected opportunity.

Eun Hee’s Loyalty

Although Eun-hee has a lot of grievances against Mi Ran, in order to maintain her loyalty, she decided not to show it and only wrote them in her diary.  However, she continued to be ignored by Mi Ran at the class reunion, and she kept hearing negative news about Mi Ran:  Myung Bo's wife said that Mi Ran seduced Myung Bo , and more importantly, Mi Ran looked down upon everyone in the village. Eun Hee saw Myung Bo’s wife fighting  with Mi Ran.  When she stepped forward to tire them apart, Mi Ran slapped her and she was stunned.

Mi Ran’s panic

Mi Ran ran happily helped Eun-hee clean the room and changed the new curtains she brought, but her happiness only lasted until she opened Eun Hee's diary.  When Mi Ran helped Eun Hee with her makeup, she asked her carefully: Have I ever done anything to hurt you? Eun Hee with her eyes closed just denied it, not seeing Mi Ran's sad tears.

Our Blues: Episodes 13-14

by lovepark

ourblues1314-00100.jpg

Relationships are hard, and people are complicated. Even the best of friends can hurt each other, and the sweetest partners can break hearts. Though it may be easier to pretend everything is all right in the moment, our characters learn that if they want a healthy relationship with the ones they love, then sometimes difficult conversations are necessary to heal wounds and grow.

EPISODES 13-14 WEECAP: Mi-ran & Eun-hee; Young-ok, Jung-joon & Young-hee

Mi-ran’s short visit to Jeju stirs up Eun-hee’s bottled feelings, but instead of addressing these issues, she continues playing the part of the loyal friend. Unaware of their growing rift, Mi-ran tidies up Eun-hee’s house in the morning and casually flips through her diary since she believes there are no secrets between them. At first, the entries are nothing more than mundane sales logs, but Mi-ran sits in shock when she reads the latest page where Eun-hee describes her as a selfish, two-faced brat.

When Eun-hee comes home from work, Mi-ran greets her friend with a smile, and Eun-hee goes along with the ruse despite her frustrations. Later that day, as Mi-ran helps Eun-hee get ready for their class reunion, Mi-ran asks if she ever hurt her. Eun-hee lies about being fine, so Mi-ran tells her that she loves her and drops the topic.

At the party, Mi-ran and Eun-hee recreate their high school dance routine, but the guys intervene and push Eun-hee out of the way. Resigning to the sidelines, Eun-hee grabs a drink by herself, and Myung-bo’s wife joins her to badmouth Mi-ran for looking down on all of them.

Mi-ran steps out to buy some learning materials for Ok-dong and finds Myung-bo drinking alone at a park. While she keeps him company, Myung-bo admits to Mi-ran that he is going to divorce his wife. As a divorcee, she advises him to talk things out first, so Myung-bo shows her the bruises and scratches on his body as well as his broken toenails. He tells Mi-ran that his wife has delusional jealousy and has been physically abusing him for years.

Mi-ran comforts her crying friend, and in that moment, Myung-bo’s wife witnesses them together and grabs Mi-ran’s hair. When Eun-hee comes out to check on them, she immediately jumps in the fight and hits Mi-ran on the back to stop her. Enraged, Mi-ran twists around and slaps her friend across the face. Clutching her cheek, Eun-hee stares back speechless, but Mi-ran walks away.

At home, the two friends sit at the table — both sides fueled with unspoken grievances — and their emotions clash. Eun-hee blames Mi-ran for earlier and distrusts her explanation of Myung-bo’s situation. Feeling betrayed, Mi-ran repeats what she read in Eun-hee’s diary and tells her that her words hurt her because they came from the person who knows her the best.

Mi-ran asks again why Eun-hee is mad at her, but her friend refuses to talk about the past. Lashing out, Mi-ran calls her disloyal and gives her a chance to cut ties with her. When Eun-hee stays silent, Mi-ran offers to do it for her and leaves the house.

Once Mi-ran is gone, Eun-hee realizes how much she has misunderstood her friend, and the things she once saw as Mi-ran’s blessings were her own assumptions. Instead of the town star, Mi-ran was a passing breeze, and Eun-hee notices how little Mi-ran truly has. She sees the traces of her friend left behind in her house and decides to go to Seoul to confront her.

Eun-hee visits Mi-ran’s shop as a guest, and while getting a massage, she finally tells her about the incident from last year. She thought Mi-ran only considered her as a pushover and a maid, so Mi-ran corrects her: she was never her maid, but she does think she is a pushover. Explaining her comment, Mi-ran says that everyone in her life is embarrassed of her for being divorced, and the only person who makes her comfortable is Eun-hee.

ourblues1314-00117.jpg

Eun-hee asks why she is a disloyal friend then, and Mi-ran says that Eun-hee should have been honest with her if she was loyal. They both realize how much the other means to them, and as Mi-ran massages her back, Eun-hee grasps the depth of her confession. Even with a family, husbands, and a daughter — things Eun-hee does not have — the only person who truly knew her was Eun-hee. Likewise, Mi-ran fills that same hole in Eun-hee’s life, and the two friends reaffirm their friendship.

While there are bigger issues in their relationship that still need to be discussed, they are clearly headed in the right direction, and the show makes it clear that both Eun-hee and Mi-ran want to fix their friendship. It’s true that Mi-ran can be selfish and inconsiderate, but she is also generous with Eun-hee, not just materially but also emotionally.

Mi-ran was hurt after reading the diary, but her first response was to understand Eun-hee’s feelings and make amends. She never questions or belittles Eun-hee’s emotions, and only grew frustrated with her when she refused to address their problem. Mi-ran wants to apologize for hurting her because she knows how immature she can be at times, and her ability to love wholeheartedly is what makes her a good friend to Eun-hee despite her faults.

The behind the scene footage of "Our Blues" revealed the side of Han Ji Min and Kim Woo Bin outside the drama, and the way they get along with the actress with Down's syndrome reminds people of Oh Jung Se.

Last weekend's popular tvN drama "Our Blues" featured an unusual new character, Young Ok’s (Han Ji-min) twin sister, Young Hee, who has Down syndrome. The two became each other's only relatives after their parents passed away, but Young-hee's illness made Young-ok feel heavy and wanted to escape. This time, Young Ok "escaped" to Jeju Island, but Young Hee  suddenly chased after her, forcing Young Ok to confess the secret to Jung Joon. (Kim Woo-bin).

In fact, the actress Jung Eun Hye who plays Young Hee also suffers from Down syndrome herself. Young Hee in the drama  wants to be a painter, while Jung Eun Hye in life is really a painter. Jung Eun Hye had schizophrenia and other regression symptoms after returning home from school.  Her mother asked her to help with cleaning in her studio. This is how Jung Eun Hye  discovered her passion for painting.

Since 2016, Jung Eun Hye has successively painted more than 4,000 portraits, and the regression phenomenon has also disappeared.  She has also participated in two films and regularly shares her painting routine on Youtube, becoming an integral part of society.

In the filming footage released a few days ago, Han Ji Min  and Kim Woo Bin were very gentle when they treated Jung Eun Hye ~ Young Hee  in the drama  thinks Jung Joon  is a "bad guy”.   After the filming of this scene, Han Ji Min  took her by the arm and asked mischievously, "Is Kim Woo Bin a good person or a bad person? "  ”He is  a good-looking person.”  That's a good sense!

When filming the airport reunion scene with Young Ok and Young-hee, Han Ji Min frequentlu NG and crouched down to apologise. Jung Eun Hye patted her on the cheek and said it's okay ~ Jung  Eun Hye was hungry and wanted to eat snacks, but because it was a public place, she was asked to bear it.   Han Ji Min gently said to her: "The camera is right next to you, my dear actress! You may get stuck something between your teeth when you eat snacks~" But later, she helped Jung Eun Hye to ask for a snack.

Spoiler

There is also the scene where Jung Joon met Young Hee for the first time. Jung Eun Hye said that Jung Joon's attitude towards Young Ok was scary, and Kim Woo Bin explained, "Because Young Ok was about to break up, I burst into anger. (Just kidding) Don't mess with me! "All three of them laughed, and the atmosphere at the scene was really awesome~

"Our Blues"  does not only have a heart-warming plot, but even the behind-the-scenes video of the shooting scene is very loving.  It is definitely worthy of a big push as a healing masterpiece of the year!

The more you watch this episode, the cuter it gets! (Laughs) When the time comes, the two single in-laws will live together, and then the other house will be reserved for the newlywed couple, right?

The tvN weekend drama "Our Blues Time" is currently on air. In the drama, two generations of people, Young Joo (Roh Yoon Seon) and Hyun (Bae Hyun Sung), and In Kwon (Park Ji Hwan) and Ho Sik (Choi Young Jun), are intertwined in a multi-faceted story of love, affection and friendship.  As the knot between their fathers is untied, the young couple is finally able to be together justifiably and start their ordinary and sweet life together.

At night, Ho Sik was awakened by a the sound outside the room and sat up helplessly.

Screenshot_2022-05-26_at_11.10.39_AM.png

When he opened the door, it was his beloved daughter Young Joo and his future son-in-law Hyun who were eating instant noodles. Although he was very angry, he could only keep smiling. And Ho Sik  asked Hyun, "You live here now, right?  Young-ju replied that the baby wanted to see her father, so that's why. His daughter said so, what else can a father say?

.

Ho Sik laughed helplessly at the air, and then got up to pack his bags. Hearing the sound of her father leaving the house, Young Joo asked, “Where is Dad going? Ho Hee said angrily, "Just eat instant noodles with your husband!”  The camera turned around, and Ho Sik showed up at In Kwon’s house with his own little pillow.  After learning the location of Hyun's room from In Kwon, he laid down with a clear conscience.  In Kwon also did not ask a single question, as if he had tacitly recognised this situation.

As the saying goes, parents cannot compete with their own children, and that is probably true. (laughs) The two single fathers should not be alone for the rest of their lives because of the marriage of their son and daughter.

Finally got to watch Episode 14 and what a sweet episode it was. I'm still so impressed by the stellar acting by all the cast and the compelling storylines among all of them. Wish we had seen more build-up between Byeol-i and Ki-Jun, though. That story seemed to come out of the blue.

In particular I thought these two scenes were brilliant:

This was probably the most emotional, tearful, and unrelaxing full-body massage ever :tears::):

spacer.png

Thankfully Mi Ran and Eun Hui finally got a chance to say everything they needed to and reaffirm their friendship....but it made me laugh to see Eun Hui wince a bunch, and get her head slammed back down to the table so Mi Ran could talk.

And the undercurrents in this scene were beautiful:

spacer.png

Anger, fear, desire, desperation, protectiveness, and a deep love for each other - it was all there. I loved how he grabbed her hand and wouldn't let go, because he knew she loved him and needed him to be there for her. But the hostility was radiating out of both of them, too, which made me glued to the screen until the very end.

(sigh) Noh Hee Kyung is soo good! :star:

Praying for actor Woo Bin's health as he is recuperating from covid. It's also hard as he just recovered from cancer not long ago.

I am so touched by the kindness Joon showed towards Yeong Hee. The way he calls her noona~ was music to my ears ha-ha! He even got her a Galaxy Flip phone. Those costs like, 5K here I want one too Joon can u buy me one too LoL?

That restaurant scene was very realistic. Kids are just as mean. We as adults need to do better. Ignorance has to be nipped in the bud when we are young as kids. They need to learn understanding & compassion.

Yeong Hee honestly, is so well adjusted, independent & talented too. I don't think Yeong Ok should overthink or worry tbh. Though her concerns are valid as well and I get where her frustrations come from (the kitchen scene)

Loved all of Yeong Hee's artwork. If they could put it up at a art gallery somewhere to be appreciated I'm sure Yeong Hee can make a decent living off of it. Yeong Ok then can live and breathe a lil easier .. I was right Gi Joon crushes on Byeol Hee (she is so pretty) Hope she gives him a chance and hopefully their parents will approve as well.

Looks like this drama is the most realistic yet LoL. Dealing with many current & relevant issues which are hushed up by such a judgmental & conservative country as South Korea. It's kind of groundbreaking.

Our Blues – K-Drama Episode 15 Recap & Review

28/05/2022 by Greg Wheeler

Yeong-Ok, Jeong-Jun and… 2

Episode 15 of Our Blues stars with us back on Jeju Island with Dong-Seok and Jeong-Jun together eating food. Seon-A is still keeping in touch with Dong-Seok, sending videos over to him of her daily life. Dong-Seok hasn’t sent anything back though, which Jun teases him about, asking if he’s playing hard to get.

Dong-Seok gives him some good advice to the guy, encouraging Jeong-Jun to be bullheaded about the whole Down Syndrome situation. Now, Jeong-Jun himself is absolutely fine with it but isn’t sure how to broach that subject with his parents and sister.

For now though, it’s onto a lovely evening with the Jeju gang joined together, drinking with Yeong-Hui and checking out the stars.

It’s a great way of Jeong-Jun and Yeong-Hui to get closer together too but Yeong-Ok is worried about him being too nice to her sister. After all, it’s going to make it harder for Yeong-Hui to say goodbye when she inevitably goes back to the care facility. It’s also why Yeong-Ok as been a bit standoffish with her sister all this time; she doesn’t want to hurt her.

Unfortunately a big fight breaks out that night. Yeong-Hui is drunk, stumbling about and trying to take photos on her phone. Yeong-Ok stops her in an impatient fit of frustration, but Yeong-Hui is adamant that she needs this for her drawings.

As they argue, Yeong-Ok tells her sister that she can’t draw and should give up. Yeong-Hui refuses though, convinced that she’s an artist like their mum and dad.

Now, Yeong-Ok wants to see her sister’s drawings, as their parents apparently taught her how to draw as a baby. In fact, she holds onto her sketchbook tightly and refuses to let up. In the middle of the night though, Yeong-Hui wakes up while her sister is asleep and sketches her.

In the morning, Jeong-Jun spends time with Yeong-Hui, where he learns more about her life. She mentions working at the cafe while Jeong-Jun offers to pay for things like her. The conversation soon turns to relationships, with Yeong-Hui lamenting how she doesn’t have a boyfriend. She wants one though, and is quick to point out the differences between herself and Yeong-Ok. This conversation also helps her warm up to him too, admitting that Jeong-Jun is a really nice guy.

In the middle of this though, Yeong-Ok head out for some ice cream with Jeong-Jun. She explains that he needs to be careful if they ever break up as he’ll be vilified for it. Jeong-Jun’s reply? To flick ice-cream on her. She does the same to him and the whole conversation is lightened as he tells her not to say things like that again.

Yeong-Hui continues to snap photos and paint at night. She has a real eye for what makes a good photo to be honest, but Yeong-Ok isn’t in the mood to share those good vibes. She dodges her sister’s questions when asked if she likes being on her own because of her.

When they head out for food together, one of the children at the table opposite starts making fun of Yeong-Hui. Although they’re scolded, the parents continue to whisper and cause a scene. Naturally, everything escalates, with Jeong-Jun demanding the dad settle down.

As the scene closes, Yeong-Hui speaks to the boy outside the toilets alone, telling him it’s rude to stare and he should be careful in the future.

Back home, Yeong-Ok points out how the restaurant just a taste of what people are actually like around Yeong-Hui. This is something she’s grown up with her whole life, and partly why she left Yeong-Hui on the subway.

Not only that but society in general looks down on those with disabilities, which Yeong-Ok points out is hard for her as she’s endured a lot. Jeong-Jun hugs Yeong-Ok after hearing all this, a tear falling down his cheek. He tells her she can’t be kinder than she currently is.

That night, Jeong-Jun takes Yeong-Hui back to his place where he sees her paintings first hand. He’s shocked and can hardly contain his shock. “They’re incredible.” He says eventually, looking through each of the paintings. Jeong-Jun is quick to point out that artists need a seal and a signature, which Jeong-Jun suggests should be a chick.

In the morning, Yeong-Ok starts preparing everything for her sister, ready to leave and get her flight. However, she’s already outside waiting to go to the care facility. Yeong-Ok is certainly taken aback. Jeong-Jun is there to see her off too and they promise to see Yeong-Hui again in the winter.

In her absence, Yeong-Ok heads over to Jeong-Jun’s place and sees all the drawings her sister has done, all hanging up like an exhibit. There are numerous pictures of Yeong-Ok through the years, from age 12 all the way through to present day. And what’s amazing is the progression of artistic technique; the facial expressions, the definition around the eyes and the detail is so good.

The pièce de résistance happens to be a colour painting labelled “Yeong-Ok and Jeong-Jun in love” right next to “Yeong-Hui and Yeong-Ok love each other.”

The thing is, these paintings and drawings are a bittersweet reminder of the past, especially given Yeong-Hui only really drew her sister when she was feeling lonely or missing her. As she begins sobbing, we cut to Jeong-Jun outside, who listens reflectively.

Our Blues returns with a really solid episode, one that tops off this emotional Yeong-Ok and Yeong-Hui reunion with a look at all her drawings.

It’s such a beautiful way to crescendo the drama we’ve seen over the past few episodes and honestly, Jeong-Jun is such a great guy. He genuinely cares for Yeong-Ok and wants to try and make an effort with Yeong-Hui. He’s not in it for the short-haul and you can tell that, especially from the little moments like asking Dong-Seok for advice and actually researching Down Syndrome online. I can also appreciate why Yeong-Ok has been so standoffish with Jeong-Jun.

The episode itself is both topical and important, and it’s something I’ve been saying a lot recently about this drama to my friends; this is a really important, inclusive series that manages to touch on a lot of different topics that K-dramas don’t usually look at.

This alone has made these past three chapters almost essential viewing this year, even if the anthological nature of Our Blues hasn’t always been on the money. This episode though, absolutely delivers.

A big shout out to the writer for such a sensitive and beautiful handling of the story arc on disability.People with disability are well rounded people like us.Very few dramas treat them as an ordinary character that just has more challenges to deal with. Our blues will be memorable for doing so.

The actress who acted as Yeong hui stole the show for me today.I hope we get to see her more on screen.
