It's painful to see Seon Ah be so defeated but that's what depression is like.. it can be crippling.

That really hurt when she told Dong Seok that depression is bein' shrouded in constant darkness. She's lucky to have someone as Dong Seok by her side though it can't be easy for him either.

Ep 9/10 I guess, wow the episodes went by fast.

Ep 9 -As someone said before both the fathers SHOULD be Given Couple of the Year Award, no one deserves it more than they do, thankfully they accepted fought almost killed and sorted the stuff out. But how long can the kid whose desire was to always leave the Island stay put is my question. They are still very very young and the girl especially is very volatile at times, but lets hope for the best.

Ep 10 - Seon A wanted the kid back so desperately she somehow ended up hurting him <or what the kid's dad says> and lost the custody, but I think Dong Seok's way of bringing her back to life may work but this early or not is the question, it's a tough battle ahead.

Special mention : Eun Hui and the Kid are so cutee....., I love the way Captain subtly flirted, GIVE HIM MORE WEIGHTAGE in the STORY Aushhh...

Wakeup calls.

This show is full of people stuck in their blues, but each have that moment when someone gives them a badly needed wakeup call.

Dong-seok and Sun-ah

What tragic lives. They both had such tough childhoods. If Sun-ah's father was going to drown himself in the ocean, why did he have to take his poor daughter along? Poor Dong-seok lost both his father and sister to the ocean, and he's disappointed by his mom's life choices, even though she probably didn't have any other choice. Their sad childhoods left a mark, and they haven't yet gotten past it. Let's hope that they support each other through this to the other side.

Dong-seok's words to Sun-ah were harsh, but it was the wakeup call she needed. Did she want her son to live out the same legacy of depression and suicide? Or could she break the cycle? Dong-seok had plenty of hardship and he hasn't made the best choices either, but he is wise enough to know what to say to her to get her to see a different perspective - which he literally tells her to do. If the ocean makes you seasick, then turn around and look at the mountains.

He was there for her when they were young, and he will be there for her now.

In-gwon and Ho-sik

I know that these two dads and their literal pigheadedness wasn't always easy to root for, but it was nice to see them finally make up and reach an understanding. Seeing them get on their knees towards each other in apology, and addressing each other as "sadon." Huge, meaningful gestures. They got their wakeup calls once again. These kids are gonna make it.

Hansu and Eun-hee

Hansu needed a wakeup call, and he got one when Eun-hee beat him over the head with a pillow.

And Eun-hee is the throughline for all the characters. She is the pillar of this community, the solid center. Hurray for Eun-hee, she is just the best.

(I am blessed with two great kids and an awesome husband. On this Mother's Day, I had a nice time with my family. But when I saw Eun-hee crack open an ice-cold beer with a box of chicken, I couldn't help but think... ahhh, yes, that's the life.)

Everyone's got the blues. But they will be okay.

We all need a wakeup call sometimes, hopefully from someone who loves us.

‘Our Blues’  The mysterious Sun Ah in Dong Seok’s heart opens up her heart for the first time, and In Kwon and Ho Sik make a warm decision! (ep.9)  (A translation)

For so many years, Dong Seok (Lee Byung Hun) has been angry with Sun Ah, but in fact, Sun Ah  (Shin Min Ah)  also has her difficulties ......

‘Our Blues’ tells the stories of a group of ordinary people on Jeju Island, some reunited with their married first love, some got pregnant unexpectedly while in high school, and some broke up with their best friends over one sentence.  This time, the main characters are him and her, who went around and finally returned to Jeju after a long journey.

Dong Seok’s only redemption of a painful childhood

After his father's death, his mother remarried and became a concubine.  Whenever the first wife's son beat him, he would not  fight back, hoping to use his wounds to stimulate his mother to love him more, but in the end, he does not get the attention he wants. Don Seok  has a crush on Sun Ah, a young girl. One day, he misunderstands his friend's relationship with her, and is angry that beats his friend to the ground. But Sun Ah’s response was to ask the police to arrest him as a "hooligan", making Dong Seok feel that he is being cheated.

After meeting Sun Ah  again 7 years ago, Dong Seok dated her often, thinking that the two could go further and kissed her. Unexpectedly, she turned her face and refused immediately, making Dong Seok  feel that he was being cheated again. Now that Sun Ah is divorced and returned to Jeju, Dong Seok knows that he has become a "tool man" but still came to help.

Spoiler

Sun Ah  struggled desperately and still could not help herself.

Sun Ah’s  father failed in business, and her mother divorced and remarried. She thought that only by destroying herself could she get her father to wake up and regain his strength.  In fact, Sun Ah  also liked Dong Seok very much. That day, she did not have any relationship with the friend and did not really call the police. She just pretended to scare him because she was afraid that Dong Seok would be killed.  On the same day, Sun Ah's father drove the car into the sea, and she was taken to Seoul by her mother and suffered from untreated depression.

Sun Ah returns to her empty old home and tried very hard to renovate it.  She plans to reclaim custody of his son in court.  Dong Seok suddenly realized with fear that what if she did not succeed?

Screenshot_2022-05-09_at_4.39.56_PM.png

Both Dong Seok and Sun Ah  grew up in neglected families.  They both tried to get their parents' attention by hurting themselves, but both failed to do so... If they have never been loved;  if they do not even have enough power to love themselves, will they be able to love each other?

Spoiler

From best friends to enemies to in-laws.

Ho Sik came to In Kwon’s house in the middle of the night to meet him. He knelt down, asking him to agree to the birth of their grandchild.  In Kwon also showed his toughness and tenderness to protect his family and friends after a long time.  He also knelt down before Ho Sik because he had once belittled Young Joo. The two agreed not to be brothers anymore, but to address each other as “in-laws."

Spoiler

In the preview for the next episode, Uhm Jung Hwa who portrays Eun Hee’s best friend Mi Ran finally appears.   Sun Ah seemed to have failed to take back her son and “ cannot see anything even in a brightly lit place.”  Dong Seok tells her that she can be sad, but not like his mother who is just sad.  Looking  forward to episode 10 tonight!

In what world did she think she's going to get child custody? Her husband already look arrogant and overly perfect but with that being said, being around somebody depressed can cause you become apathetic if we are not mindful of ourselves. Additionally, had the husband seen his own flaws especially how he contributed to their son's arm being a little hurt, things would not have been as dramatic.

Seon-a showed up to family court without a lawyer, and she hasn't thought things through. Just the night before, she brought her son to her husband over 2 hours late, with no phone call or message. Then she wouldn't let go of her son's arm and made him cry. On the one hand, we understand that she feels a strong urge to not let him go because she loves him so much. But we also know that this is the worst thing that she can do at that moment.

Her husband took Yeol to the hospital when it probably wasn't necessary in order to make a big deal about it, and so that he has evidence to show the judge the next morning.

The first priority is for Seon-a to really get better. She's been taking meds, but she hasn't tried talk therapy. Like Dong-seok says, she should try everything possible in order to become healthy first.

--

The morality police of Korea are being quite harsh on this show - that it's putting a romantic spin on high school kids having sex, and the show even features a middle schooler (Seon-a) offering to have sex with a classmate in order to get attention from her dad. That it's normalizing deviant behavior among youth, and will surely lead to corruption.

The same sort of people are saying that Seon-a doesn't deserve her son back, and the son will surely be better off with his father, because his family is obviously rich and living in Seoul.

Watch: “Our Blues” Cast Alternates Between Laughs And Tears While Filming Drama’s Emotional Scenes

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

May 10, 2022
by S. Cho

“Our Blues” has released a new making video that depicts the cast’s happy energy on set!

tvN’s “Our Blues” is an omnibus-style drama set in Jeju Island that tells the sweet, sour, and bitter life stories of a diverse array of characters. The star-studded cast includes Shin Min AhLee Byung Hun, Kim Woo Bin, Han Ji Min, Cha Seung Won, Lee Jung Eun, Kim Hye Ja, Uhm Jung Hwa, and more.

The new behind-the-scenes video starts off with an exchange between Shin Min Ah and Lee Byung Hun. As he softly tries to help Shin Min Ah and give her a ride, Shin Min Ah accidentally closes the car door on Lee Byung Hun’s head, leading to a halt in filming. Amid everyone’s concerns, Lee Byung Hun lightens the mood by cracking jokes and reassuring everyone that he’s okay.

The remainder of the clip focuses on high school couple Jung Hyun (Bae Hyun Sung) and Bang Young Joo (Noh Yoon Seo) and their fathers Jung In Kwon (Park Ji Hwan) and Bang Ho Shik (Choi Young Joon), who hate each other.

At the market, Park Ji Hwan and Choi Young Joon film their heated fight scene after they find out that their children are in a relationship and pregnant. Contrary to the intensity of the scene, the actors hilariously and adorably grow incredibly affectionate with each other whenever the cameras stop rolling.

The same applies when the two adults film with their children. After Jung In Kwon hunts down Bang Young Joo at the motel she’s staying at, he drags her out to force her to get an abortion. In between takes of the tense and serious scene, Park Ji Hwan makes Bae Hyun Sung and Noh Yoon Seo laugh as he randomly shows off his dance moves.

The next scenes depict their emotional conversations the couple shares with their respective fathers to plead for forgiveness and approval. After the director calls “cut” for the emotional scene between Jung In Kwon and Jung Hyun, Park Ji Hwan needs a few moments to collect himself, so Bae Hyun Sung makes sure to hug his on-screen father a little bit longer.

At the end of the video, the quartet visit the ocean for their poster shoot. After excitedly filming a variety of individual and group shots, Park Ji Hwan comments, “We did our poster shoot at this beautiful place.” As he tries to continue, he cracks everyone up as he turns to Choi Young Joon to ask, “What’s your [real] name? I always only call you Ho Shik…”

Regarding their poster concept, Noh Yoon Seo shares, “We filmed one in front of the ocean together with a bright image. We also shot one with the concept of us posing sweetly while our fathers are tearing each other apart.”

Our Blues: Episodes 9-10

by lovepark

ourblues0910-00267.jpg

At this point, I should not be surprised with the show for making even the most unlikable characters sympathetic because every week I find myself reevaluating my first impressions of people and their relationships. The focus this time around is on the resident hothead and his first love, and we learn more about these two broken individuals and the hurt they carry.

EPISODES 9-10 WEECAP: Dong-suk & Sun-ah

The young couple’s story comes to a conclusion for now, and while they are bound to face more hardships in the future, at least they have their dads on their sides. While the journey here was fraught with heartache, this experience taught In-kwon and Ho-shik to reflect on their actions, and they finally make amends and fulfill their old promise of becoming in-laws.

Closing that chapter, the show returns to Dong-suk and Sun-ah, the childhood friends and first loves. After Sun-ah’s fall into the ocean, the nearby haenyeos save her, and officially, the incident is reported as an accident though everyone in town murmurs about the Seoul lady who tried to commit suicide.

Having witnessed the scene, Dong-suk accompanies Sun-ah to the hospital as her guardian and finds her a place to stay. He checks on her periodically, and one rainy night, the motel owner tells him that Sun-ah has been gone for three days. Dong-suk heads out to search for her, and ends up at her old house.

When Dong-suk was eighteen and Sun-ah was fourteen, the two lonely teenagers found solace in each other. He would give her rides home after they silently played at the arcade until nightfall, and whenever she needed to escape the yelling in her house, Dong-suk welcomed her into his room without hesitation.

Looking back on Dong-suk’s past, it becomes apparent why he harbors such vitriol towards his mom. After his dad and older sister passed away, his mom moved their family into another house where she took care of the bedridden wife and was the mistress to the husband. The husband’s two sons took their anger out on Dong-suk, beating him whenever they pleased, and his mom averted her gaze from the abuse.

To Dong-suk, Sun-ah was his only source of comfort in his otherwise dreary life, so when he found his friend leaving Sun-ah with his pants unbuckled, he flew into a rage and beat him up as well as his two bullies. However, the thing that hurt Dong-suk the most was hearing Sun-ah call him a thug to the police over the phone. That very night, he ran away with all the valuables in the house in hopes of never returning to this terrible place.

Dong-suk finds Sun-ah renovating a rundown building where her dad’s old home used to be, and all the questions he bottled up rise to the surface as their past and present collide. He accuses her of playing with his heart, so Sun-ah tells Dong-suk her side of the events.

She says that he was her first love, too, which is why she could not ask him to defile her. However, she did not end up sleeping with Dong-suk’s friend because he backed out, and when she saw him fighting in the streets, she pretended to call the police to stop him. Like Dong-suk, Sun-ah also left Jeju that fateful day, and her life changed forever.

Her dad picked her up to go see the ocean, and while she went out to buy them food, he drove the car into the water. Sun-ah tells Dong-suk that her depression started then, and all throughout her life, her loved ones have constantly pestered her to stop “being sad.” It makes even more sense now why Sun-ah imagines herself drenched in water, and my heart goes out to her for not having the guidance nor support all these years after witnesses something so traumatic.

Once Dong-suk realizes that he misunderstood Sun-ah, his attitude towards her softens, and he spends all his free time helping her fix the house. As the two spend more time together, Dong-suk opens up a bit, and tells Sun-ah about his sister. He explains how he fought with her over food one evening, but before he could apologize, she died the next day while diving in the ocean. Since then, he learned that tomorrow was never guaranteed and chooses to live in the present instead.

The tvN drama "Our Blues" is currently on the air. This is a life story that describes the ups and downs of each character based on the warm and vivid Jeju and the cold and harsh sea. Eun-hee (played by Lee Jun Eun) is the proprietress of a fish shop, who works hard and lives hard every day.  After work, she also knows how to comfort herself, put on light clothes, and the combination of fried chicken and beer is really a great enjoyment!

Spoiler

Of course, such a comfortable environment must need some "eye-catching" pictures! I saw Eun Hee staring at the TV, the picture freezes... Hey, isn't that Nam Joo Hyuk? ! He recently created a new peak in his career through "Twenty-Five, Twenty-One". I wonder if everyone has followed this work? (laugh)

Uhm Jung Hwa And Lee Jung Eun Show Off Their Unbreakable Bond In “Our Blues” Posters

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

May 11, 2022
by L. Kim

A new story will be unraveling in the tvN series “Our Blues”!

“Our Blues” is an omnibus-style drama set in Jeju Island that tells the sweet, sour, and bitter life stories of a diverse array of characters.

Spoilers

“Our Blues” has been receiving lots of love for its realistic stories that hit close to home. The previous story centered around Lee Dong Suk (Lee Byung Hun) and Min Sun Ah (Shin Min Ah), and now, it’s time for Go Mi Ran (Uhm Jung Hwa) and Jung Eun Hee (Lee Jung Eun) to shine.

Episodes 12 and 13 will focus on the friendship of Go Mi Ran, a city girl at heart, and Jung Eun Hee, the owner of a fish store. The two characters have opposite personalities and come from very different family environments. So viewers are already intrigued about how they become the most loyal friends.

On May 11, the drama unveiled new posters of Go Mi Ran and Jung Eun Hee. In one photo, they’re having a brilliant time on the Jeju coastal road in a convertible, and in another photo, they smile brightly with their arms around each other. Their long-term friendship is evident from the text on the poster that reads, “I’m right next to you! Loyalty!”

Our-Blues-11.jpg

The production crew commented, “In real life, actors Uhm Jung Hwa and Lee Jung Eun, who are actually the same age, showed perfect immersion in the episodes of Go Mi Ran and Jung Eun Hee  with surprisingly close teamwork on the set. You will be able to feel deep warmth and empathy while thinking about your friends.”

“Our Blues” airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 p.m. KST.

That mentality drives me nuts! Kids need time with both their mothers and fathers, if their parents are divorced. And wealth is never the best indicator for whether a parent is "good" or not. So ridiculous.

"Bringing her back to life" - great way to put it!

What strikes me is he is gruff but he says what she needs to hear, and the fact that he's sticking with her and even wants to still go out with her shows her he really cares about her. He's saying hard things because he wants her to stay in his life. It was a really lovely scene.

And that final scene with his monotone droning making her laugh was so perfect. We laughed when he drove around with that boring message playing from his loudspeaker, and it was funny to see her laugh, too. We weren't the only ones.

While not exact, this reminds me of Writernim's brilliant drama "More Beautiful Than a Flower". The mother (played by the same Go DuShim from Our Blues) helped the mistress of her husband with her health. The father and mother had older children. These kids took their frustrations and anger at their father out on the child that their father and his mistress had, though not physically.

Absolutely brilliant drama, I absolutely recommend, even if it is from 2004. I wish they'd remake it already!!

'Our Blues’ Lee Jung Eun → Lee Byung-hun, three famous lines that touched the heart.

spacer.png

‘Our Blues’ contains comfort that permeates life.

In the tvN Saturday drama 'Our Blues' (written by Noh Hee Kyung/directed by Kim Gyu Tae, Kim Yang Hee, Lee Jung Mook/planned Studio Dragon/produced by GTist), there are protagonists who are hurt by people but also comforted by them. And the appearance of the main characters looking for hope to live again gives viewers a big resonance.

Consolation of Lee Jung Eun in Cha Seung Won's arms “How to do business with a living” (Episode of ‘Hansu and Eunhee’)

Choi Han Soo (Cha Seung Won), a goose father whose life has become difficult because of money, and Jung Eun-hee (Lee Jung Eun), a fishmonger who has a lot of money but takes care of her family. The episode of 'Hansu and Eunhee', the classmates she met after 20 years, summoned the memories of her past youth and drew attention. Jung Eun Hee, who knew that her first love Choi Han Soo deceived her because he needed money, shed tears in disappointment.  However, she showed a big heart for her friend Choi Han Soo, saying, "I should take care of myself with money, and I should take care of my friend without money.”  She then sends 200 million won in cash to Choi Han Soo, saying, “There are times when a merchant runs out of business. It is not like I am doing a poor business once or twice in my life, so don't worry about it and take it," she left a message. Choi Han Soo returned the money and kept the friendship by saying, "I don't want to let you do business this time as much as you have always done business in your life." Jung Eun Hee buried her first love in her heart forever.  However, Choi Han Soo who met the wonderful Jung Eun Hee looks back on his youth and uses these memories to gain the strength to live again, leaving a deep impression.

■ Father's confession of tears of reconciliation “You were more proud of me than anything else in the world” (In Kwon and  Hosik episode)

The episode of ‘In Kwon and Ho sik’ by Jung In-Kwon (Park Ji Kwan) and Bang Ho Sik (Choi Young Joon), who became widowers and lived with only one child, touched the hearts of parents in front of the TV. The two fathers, who raised their children by selling ice and slicing sundae without a day off, were disppointed because of their children who did not go their way. Jung In kwon, who only looked rough and strong, was hurt by the one word, "I was ashamed of my father. ”  Bang Ho Sik was also hurt by the sight of her daughter leaving the house without him.

However, no parents can defeat their own children and seeing the fathers collapsing in tears over their children's apologies was heartbreaking. “You were more proud of me than anything else in the world. But is this (father) embarrassed?” The crying words of JungIn Kwon were the same as those of all the parents in the world. Seeing fathers weeping at the words of their children, “I was wrong” and “I’m sorry”, gave a touching feeling that seemed to envelop the hearts of all parents in the world.

■ Shin Min Ah's comfort by Lee Byung Hun  "I'm not saying don't be sad. Don’t just be sad”, “If you turn your back, there is a different world” (‘Dongseok and Seonah’ episode)

Min Sun Ah (Shin Min Ah ) was saddened as if she had lost all hope when she was unable to live with her child due to the custody trial.  Lee Dong Seok(Lee Byung-hun) was by the side of Min Sun Ah, and delivered harsh but sincere condolences.  "If a mother dies unhappy all her life, what will the child see and enjoy her life?  I am not saying don't be sad. Don't be sad like my mother." He comforted Min Seon Ah from her sorrow and lifted her from her grief.  Lee Dong Seok also had a childhood wounded by his mother who did not take care of him, so his comfort came across more heavily.

Tomorrow's sun has risen again. The ending in which two people who saw the sunrise held hands and walked together saying, “I want to be happy” was heartwarming. Lee Dong Seok's message of comfort, saying, "If you turn your back like this, there is a different world," left a deep lingering impression, conveying hope and support not only to Min Sun Ah but also to viewers.

The bitter, sweet, bitter, and bitter life story in ‘Our Blues’ continues. What kind of life comfort awaits, and what kind of tears and emotions it will bring, expectations are growing for the remaining episodes.

'Our Blues’ Lee Jung Eun → Lee Byung-hun, three famous lines that touched the heart.

Father's confession of tears of reconciliation “You were more proud of me than anything else in the world” (In Kwon and  Hosik episode)

Shin Min Ah's comfort by Lee Byung Hun  "I'm not saying don't be sad.

Tensions are rising between Han Ji Min and Go Doo Shim in tvN’s “Our Blues”!

“Our Blues” is an omnibus-style drama set in Jeju Island that tells the sweet, sour, and bitter life stories of a diverse array of characters.

Spoilers

Han Ji Min plays Lee Young Ok, a rookie haenyeo (female diver that harvests sea life for a living) who harbors a secret. As an outsider who came from inland to Jeju Island to learn the skills of a haenyeo, there is not much known about her. Rather, there are a lot of rumors about Lee Young Ok at Pureung Village, raising questions about her backstory.

The fellow haenyeos working with Lee Young Ok become suspicious of her, saying that she went around lying and refusing to pick up calls from someone that comes every day. She even takes her phone with her when going into the water, raising further suspicions with her actions. Hye Ja (Park Ji Ah) also told ship captain Park Jung Joon (Kim Woo Bin) that they are planning to kick Lee Young Ok out.

The conflict between Lee Young Ok and the other haenyeos will escalate in the upcoming episodes, putting her at risk of being chased out of the group. The new stills reveal Hyun Choon Hee (Go Doo Shim) coldly ignoring Lee Young Ok. The atmosphere among the haenyeos remains stiff as Lee Young Ok wears an awkward smile, unable to fit in properly.
