Plot

So Ji Sub In Talks For New Crime Drama

So Ji Sub might be appearing in a new drama!

On February 24, Korean news outlet Ilgan Sports reported that the actor would be taking a role in the upcoming Netflix production “Model Family” (literal title). So Ji Sub’s agency 51K later stated, “So Ji Sub has received an offer for a role in Netflix’s ‘Model Family’ and is reviewing it positively.”

“Model Family” will follow what happens when an ordinary family that is on the verge of collapse due to bankruptcy and internal feuds gets involved with a bloodthirsty drug ring. In the midst of dangerous missions and close calls, the members of the family will band together and become a model family as they stand up against the drug ring that threatens their livelihoods. At the helm of the production is producing director (PD) Kim Jin Woo, who directed “Love Alarm 2.”

If So Ji Sub accepts the offer, he will take on the role of Ma Kwang Chul, the drug ring’s cruel but quick-witted second-in-command. Starting off as a regular good-for-nothing operating gambling places and entertainment establishments, he catches the eye of the drug ring’s boss and ends up taking on a management role. After searching for traces of the gang members who disappeared while delivering money to a merchant ship, he runs into a regular family.

So Ji Sub previously starred in the film “Confession” and is currently filming for the upcoming film “Alien” (literal title).

The production of Netflix’s upcoming original series Exemplary Family is in discussions with actor So Ji-sub for a casting offer.

On February 24, an official from So’s agency 51K shared, “So Ji-sub received an offer to appear in Netflix’s Exemplary Family. We are currently reviewing [the proposal] positively.” Earlier this year, it was reported that the streaming giant also reached out to Reply 1994 actor Jung Woo to essay a main role in the drama.

 

Exemplary Family will follow Park Dong-ha (Jung Woo), a family man who works as a college lecturer. Due to his incompetence and their family’s impending bankruptcy, his wife decides to file for divorce. Their already complicated lives take an unexpected turn, however, when two dead bodies and five billion KRW in cash turn up before them.

So is being roped in to portray Ma Kwang-cheol, the quick-witted yet ruthless second-in-command of a drug ring. He used to operate entertainment establishments and gambling places but soon impressed his boss and got offered a management position. One day, the members of their cartel delivering money for a merchant ship disappear. While tracking them down, he crosses paths with an ordinary family and gets entangled in their dangerous affairs.

Upcoming Netflix series Model Family has announced its final casting lineup. Jung Woo (Mad for Each Other) plays the lead role of Dong-ha, an ordinary breadwinner who is on the brink of bankruptcy and divorce. One day, he discovers an expensive car and becomes entangled with the second-in-command of a drug ring (à la Breaking Bad).

 

Park Hee-soon (My Name, Beautiful World) plays Gwang-cheol, the ruthless second-in-command who coerces Dong-ha to become further involved with his drug operations. In contrast to Dong-ha’s character as the household head who lives for his family, Park Hee-soon’s character seems cold-blooded and only interested in protecting his money.

Yoon Jin-seo (Jackpot) plays Jung Woo’s wife, Eun-joo, who has a hidden secret. Park Ji-yeon (Hospital Playlist 2) plays Joo-hyun, a police investigator in the vice and drugs department, who is tasked with pursuing leads on Dong-ha and Gwang-cheol.

Suits director Kim Jin-woo is attached to this project and Production H (School 2017) will be producing. Model Family will air on Netflix in 2022.

Park Doo-sik to appear in 'Accelerate You' and 'Exemplary Family'

 

 

According to Jupiter Entertainment on the March 15th, Park Doo-sik will appear in KBS 2TV's Wednesday-Thursday drama 'The speed to you 493km' (Accelerate You). He has also been cast in the Netflix drama 'Exemplary Family', which will be released this year.

 

The first broadcast on the 20th of next month is a sports romance between 'Park Tae-yang' (Park Joo-hyun), who is all about 25 sports, and 'Park Tae-joon' (Chae Jong-hyeop), who is a sportsman, in a badminton business team. 493 km is the world's fastest badminton speed recorded in the Guinness Book of Records in 2013.

 

Park Doo-sik will play the national badminton player 'Koo Hyuk-bong'. He practiced badminton for about three months, trying to increase the cast synchro rate. He will reveal his presence as a mood maker within the team. It is expected that he will show a different side from the agent of the National Security Agency in the previous drama 'Undercover'.

 

He also gives strength to the exemplary family. It is the story of an ordinary head of household, Dong-ha (Jung-woo), who is on the brink of bankruptcy and divorce, accidentally discovers a car with a lot of money, and gets entangled with the second-in-command, Gwang-cheol (Park Hee-joon), a drug gangster. Park Doo-sik is expected to show off his charisma as 'Mingyu', a member of Gwangcheol's group.

Jung Woo heads Netflix’s A Model Family, facing off against Park Hee-soon

The first promos have dropped for Netflix’s original series A Model Family and if the teaser is anything to go by, this crime thriller certainly has its own flair with intriguing music and cinematography.

The drama stars Jung Woo (Mad for Each Other) as Dong-hwa, an ordinary man who used to do all the right things in life. But now he’s at his lowest point, facing possible bankruptcy and divorce from his wife Eun-joo – played by Yoon Jin-seo (Jackpot). Dong-hwa’s moral compass is thus tempted when he stumbles across a dead man’s car with a big bag of cash.

 

This puts him on the radar of Park Hee-soon (Dr. Brain) – playing mob boss Ma Gwang-chul – who, of course, wants his money back pronto. Complicating matters, Park Ji-yeon’s (Red Heart) police officer Joo-hyun is on both their tails, trying to solve the crime and ensure justice is served.

 

 

The newly released teaser begins with police officer Joo-hyun investigating the case and as she spies on mob boss Ma, she tiredly wonders, “Why I am here, what RickRoll'D are you up to, and who is that professor?” We see that both Dong-hwa and Eun-joo have been added to the police board, noting that Dong-hwa is an English major who works as a part-time lecturer while Eun-joo discontinued her studies after three years.

An angry Dong-hwa slams his books in the middle of class and we flash back to him finding a car with dead bodies, as well as a bag filled with money. Meanwhile, officer Joo-hyun mulls over Dong-hwa’s connection with the mob, “What and how much does he know? I’m curious why they let him live…” We then briefly cut to the mysterious Kim Sung-oh (Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area) before returning to Dong-hwa, who tells his wife, “I’m going to protect our family and you as well.”

But mob boss Ma is keeping watch on them all and Dong-hwa is soon in danger. After a text screen that reads, “The people who became fully entangled because of a dead person’s money,” we see Dong-hwa banging his head on his steering wheel before getting threatened by the mob. The teaser then closes on officer Joo-hyun who concludes, “Ah, they really are an amusing family.”

Written by Lee Jae-gon with directing helmed by PD Kim Jin-woo (Love Alarm 2, Healer), A Model Family will be available August 12 on Netflix.

The crime thriller <Model Family>, in which an ordinary father, Dong-ha, who is on the brink of bankruptcy and divorce, accidentally finds the money of the dead and gets entangled with a criminal organization, has released character stills. The released stills contain the precarious appearance of four people who are terribly entangled when a man who is helpless in front of a crumbling family one day finds a corpse and a bag of money, and because of that, he meets these people he should not have met.

 

As the beginning of all cases, Dong-ha, an exemplary citizen who has never violated traffic laws in his life, and the head of a crisis, is played by Jung-woo. Dong-ha, who is desperate for his son's heart surgery, accidentally discovers the money of the dead and unwittingly touches it. But his choice suffocates himself and everyone else.

 

Jung-woo introduced Dong-ha as “an ordinary and textbook character, but he has two sides in his heart” and made us curious about his acting, which depicts the psychological conflict and change of the character who faces the threat that grows like a snowball.

 

Park Hee-soon plays Gwang-cheol, the second-in-command of the drug gang, who chases Dong-ha after the money bag of the disappearing organization. Gwang-cheol pushes Dong-ha into a corner by making an offer he can't refuse, who can avoid the police and can't betray him. Hee-soon Park, who plays Gwang-cheol, who “has been loyal to the organization as a family, but lost the will to live in loneliness and emptiness knowing that it is different from the real family,” exudes a dark charisma like a lonely hunting dog in danger of being abandoned.

 

Eun-ju, the wife of Dong-ha, who has managed to support her family by caring for her incompetent husband, adolescent daughter, and sick son, is played by Yoon Jin-seo. Yoon Jin-seo said, "I am a character who is incapacitated due to distrust, anxiety, and regret. Then she finds out about the case involving her Dong-ha, and jumps into it as if she has something to do.” She explained Eun-ju’s character. Yoon Jin-seo solidly portrayed a character who was hit by her family and work and upended the times of her life, but tried to break through the situation by putting her fragile husband aside.

 

Park Ji-yeon takes on the role of Joo-hyeon, the team leader of the drug investigation team, who watches over them. Joo-hyeon, anxious about losing contact with a fellow police officer who infiltrated the drug gang, begins to watch out for Dong-ha, who does not suit Gwang-cheol. Park Ji-yeon, who played a reticent charismatic police officer different from the role she had taken before, said, "I didn't have strength to look strong, but I was really immersed in Joo-hyun's worries and only thought of the purpose. She also pursued mediocrity on the outside.” She revealed a deep reflection on the character, raising expectations for her acting transformation.

 

'Exemplary Family', which is attracting attention by revealing the character stills of the four characters entangled in the whirlpool of events brought about by impulsive choices, will meet viewers in more than 190 countries around the world through Netflix on August 12th.
