EVENT: Too Stupid To Live

 

Have you ever watched a drama and facepalmed so hard because of a character's actions or words? Couldn't believe your eyes? 

 

 

 

You're at the right place then. Second hand embarrassment, sheer disbelief, or simply easy plot devices: Welcome to Soompi's edition of "You're too stupid to live (but you're in a drama, so it's okay)". This event stems from an idea of our member @kismet22. Thank you for reaching out to us! (If you also have an idea that you'd like to see as an event, please pm one of our Event Organizers). 

 

 

We have collected a few of the Too Stupid To Live drama characters, categorised under Female, Male and Ensemble (the third question is for a drama that has several too-stupid-to-live characters). As always, you can vote for your favourite characters. However, you may notice that there are a lot more characters in drama who would fit the theme of "How are you not dead yet?"  Therefore this poll has a community element, in which you can add more options to the poll.

You can nominate more kdrama characters by commenting on this thread (Name of character + reason why they are too stupid to live - see the spoilers). Please nominate BEFORE VOTING, as you cannot change your vote after voting.

• Woman lives with a man and doesn't notice that he is - shocker - not gay. At least she doesn't have trust issues?

Yoon Soo Hyun (Park Gyu Young) in Devil Judge

• A policewoman of the RIU, who has - somehow - no partner and always, always flies off the handle. Her super bias originates from her planet-size crush on her childhood best friend. 
• 

 

Cheon Song Yi (Jun Ji Hyun) in My Love from a Star:

• Her confidence knows no bounds, and why should it? She's Korea's top celebrity, whose lack of smarts often results her in scandal. So she has to attend university, but lands in another scandal as she plagiarises her homework: But it was FOOLPROOF. Too bad her professor is out-of-this planet smart.

Han Ji Eun (Song Hye Kyo) in Full House:

• Girl has no other friends than those who steal her only (!) and childhood house, so she quickly trusts them again. Also, to gain favour of her parents-in-law, she sings and dances for them a childhood song: Three bears... 
• 

 

Ma Hye Ri (Kim So Yeon) in Prosecutor Princess:

• A cheerful, rather flighty woman who becomes a prosecutor solely due to her father's wishes. She skips a prosecutor training ceremony in order to get the limited handbag in a ski resort, where she bumps into her future boss. To make things more complicated, she ends up having a serious crush on him too. Mondays, eh?

Kim Mi Young (Lee Yoo Young) in My Fellow Citizens!:

• Detective who ends up married to conman. Well, it's Choi Siwon, so maybe she was just pretending to not know?

Oh Ha Ni (Jung So Min) in Playful Kiss

• A clumsy high school student who falls for perfectionist Baek Seung Jo. She declares her love to the smart boy with a letter full of grammatical errors, keeps going after him despite being rejected with great humiliation. She also does not even know how to cook a boiled egg.
• 

 

Go Mi Nyeo (Park Shin Hye) in You're Beautiful

• Raised by nuns, Go Mi Nyeo is a very innocent and naive woman who is thrust without preparation into the world of idols. She has to mask herself as her brother and join the trio, where each of them one by one finds out she is a woman disguising as a man. She tries to cover up her crush with her manager's advice by pressing her nose into a pig nose to cover up her deception.

Go An Na (Im Yoona) in The K2

• The damsel-in-distress's origins necessitate that she is watched over day and night, which is arguably not a bad idea, considering she doesn't know how to cook ramen or even use the stove and could have burned the house down.

Kang Seo Wool (Nam Ji Hyun) in What happens to my family?"

• She actually comes to seoul to find a boy who made her a promise to marry her when he was 10. I repeat when he was 10. and she finds the wrong boy and has no clue because she met the boy once when he was on a field trip visiting her hometown. who thinks a proposal from a 10 year old boy is real?

Ahn Yoona (Ji Sung) in Kill Me, Heal Me

• Ultimate fangirl of oppas, who will chase her oppas no matter what. 
• 

 

Yu Na Bi (Han Seo Hee) in Nevertheless, nominated by @confusedheart

• This girl says she knows exactly what is happening with the toxic male lead, but since he looks like Song Kang, it's all a moot point. "Do you want to see my butterfly?" He asks. She should have told him, no, I see one every day in the mirror (Her name means butterfly in Korean).

• Our male lead accidentally witnesses a murder, while trying to kill himself. As he gets amnesia, he believes he is a psychopath killer. Talk about a second chance....

Kang Ji Sung/Louie (Seo In Guk) in Shopping King Louie

• This cutie is living like Rapunzel: protected in a high tower, or in his case: a great mansion in France, living only with his butler, who ends up helping Louie to scheme to score a shopping outing. He spends much of his time shopping, despite all odds, even getting almost in danger when trying to acquire limited editions - that is until he meets a special girl.

Kim Ga On (Jinyoung) in Devil Judge

• Day 1 of his new job: insults his boss (Ji Sung). Week 1 of his new job: moves into his boss' house after saving him to heal, then accuses his boss of killing his own brother and family. It really is a wonder he survived til the end.

Yoo Hyun Jae (Yoon Shi Yoon) in The Best Hit

• Father of the Year? No, he manages to steal his son's love after time-travelling. Happy Ending? Maybe only for some...

Ki Seon Gyeom (Im Si Wan) in Run On

• A sweetnatured guy who actually wanted ramyun when asked over by the female lead for ramyun. 
• 

 

Park Jae Won (Ji Chang Wook) in Lovestruck in the City

• The epitome of soft guy: falls hard for a woman with double identity (Kim Ji Won), and simply. does. not. let. go. of. her. Proceeds to drown himself with alcohol. 
• 

 

Jeong Gyo Bin (Byun Woo Min) in Temptation of Wife

• His lack of brains: his ex-wife (who he tried to murder) comes back and pretends to be someone else. the only difference is she has a mole and he not only believes she is a different woman but he also falls madly in love with her and tries to cheat on his present wife/mistress to be with his ex-wife. I repeat, he tried to kill his ex-wife but he is wildly attracted to the woman who looks like his ex-wife other characters: all those associated with him lack of brains: they swallow that she is a different person because she has a mole on her face. righto then!

Zhao Yujin (Sheng Yilun) in Oh My General (nominated by @partyon)

• the most vain ML I've ever seen in a drama.  He only cares about his looks and doesn't really do anything useful for the first half of the drama. Well except for visit courtesan houses and dress himself in pretty clothes
• 

 

Shin Yoo Shin (Lee Tae Gon) in Love feat. Marriage and Divorce 1 and 2 (nominated by @CarolynH and @partyon)

• You think he is a smooth operator of seducing women to cheat. So smooth he also becomes the (mutual?) obsession of his late father's wife whom he calls Noona. He also confessed that he had a crush on her. Dr. Shin is often seen taking baths, in a bath robe, or swimming. Is this a possible omen that he will drown, as a result of his mindnumbing monologues or "discussions" to justify cheating which could make the women in his life "accidentally" kill him - too stupid to live?

• Jo Seok (Lee Gwang Soo)'s family offers plenty of laughs, which the webtoon artist discovers when his family's plights, and embarrassing events are converted into a comic. Finally Jo Seok finds some success, because of his oddness that translates to hilarity. His family's cluelessness often put them in ridiculous situations.

• From the palace maids having to tend to Mr. Queen (by filling the lake with buckets) to the cooks to the couple itself: it's a crazy world.

Man in a Veil (nominated by @maribella)

•  Lee Tae Poong (Kang Eun Tak)spent about 10 episodes avenging his mum and himself than stop short. Then in the next 10 episodes or so he was preaching to Han Yoo Jung (Uhm Hyun Kyung) how revenge would hurt her most. Both their great revenges went phut. So annoying. Also, features Mr Kimbap Abs for opening the hotel door in his towel and for getting drunk and ended up being blackmailed. His parents were so stupid to believe a photo in this day and age of fakery.

I would like to nominate a male lead.

 

The ML from the Chinese drama "Oh My General". He is probably the most vain ML I've ever seen in a drama. He only cares about his looks and doesn't really do anything useful for the first half of the drama. Well except for visit courtesan houses and dress himself in pretty clothes.  

 

 

He has a bad temper too.

 

 

Whereas his wife is a mighty general. She's smart and strong, always protecting him.
