  • ferily changed the title to [Current Drama 2021-2022] The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won, 태종 이방원 - Sat & Sun @ 21:40 KST

Lots of veteran  actors and I wonder if they will show the 1st and 2nd strife. So far, the costume designs seem to be appropriate for that period.

Spoiler

Will they show Lee Bang Won killing the 2 famed sagacious scholars whom were his two teachers Jeong Mong Ju and Jeong Dojeon?

Bang Won/King Taejong of Joseon's monologue in the beginning scene of episode 1 where he lists all his transgressions to his son and blames his son and the protesting scholars outside his residence as the ones thinking what he himself enumerated were his sins, what he did to seize the crown.

Bang won grew up as a scholar unlike his brothers who like the father were veteran warriors. Yet it was Bangwon's politically astute mind who helped his father, General Yi Seon Gye, become the founder of the Joseon Dynasty, (sometimes known as the Yi dynasty) the longest imperial dynasty in Korea.

I loved SFD or Roots of Throne and the sequel Deep Rooted Tree. As Bangwon himself enumerated to his son, this drama seems to concentrate on the events that led to the founding of the Dynasty and Bang Won's part in it.

On the one hand, Taejong worked hard to strengthen the royal authority and, on the other hand, to improve the system so that the people could live comfortably. Let's take a look at the achievements of actor Joo Sang-wook, who was embarrassed by the list of Kill Bang-won, and Taejong Lee Bang-won, who was so great that he found his confidence and shrugged his shoulders.

<Choice for the country, Taejong's prestige> Taejong Lee Bang-won, who ascends to the throne and gains the highest power, makes an unexpected choice. He announced his intention to lead the throne to the Crown Prince. Despite the disapproval of his officials, including Crown Prince Chungnyeong, Taejong did not give up.

The broadcast time is Saturday, December 18th at 8:00 PM.

*<Taejong Lee Bang-won>

He was the third king of Joseon. After he became king by raising a prince's rebellion, he worked hard to strengthen the king's power, and implemented various reform policies, such as overhauling the political and tax systems, to stabilize society.

Lee Bang-won was born in 1367 as the fifth son of Lee Seong-gye. He took the lead in establishing Joseon by helping his father, including killing Jeong Mong-ju, a loyal follower of Goryeo, at Seonjuk Bridge. After his father became king (Taejo), he was sealed in Jeongan-gun.

However, when Taejo appointed his half-brother Lee Bang-seok as Crown Prince along with Jeong Do-jeon and others, he caused the 1st Prince Rebellion in 1398. At this time, he removed Lee Bang-seok and Jeong Do-jeon and appointed his second older brother, Bang-gwa Lee (Jeongjong) as Crown Prince. Two years later, in 1400, the Second Prince Rebellion broke out with his fourth older brother, a foreigner, for power. In this battle, Lee Bang-won eliminated the opponents and ascended to the throne.

Lee Bang-won, who became the de facto supreme power, took measures to strengthen the royal power. First of all, individuals were not allowed to have soldiers (enlisted soldiers), and all enlisted soldiers previously led by individuals were made to belong to the state. In addition, the illegally stolen slaves were returned to their original owners by conducting a slave change book, and any wrongdoings in the status or inheritance of the slaves were corrected, thereby weakening the power of the public servants.

In the same year, after taking over the position of king (Taejong) from King Jeongjong, he began reforms to stabilize power in earnest. He abolished the Department of Education and established Uijeongbu, and assigned the work of Uijeongbu divided into 6 divisions. He also reorganized the chaotic provincial system in eight provinces, and implemented a policy of suppressing Buddhism, eliminating many temples across the country, and collecting all the land and slaves owned by the temples. And men over 16 years of age were asked to carry the same badge as today's ID regardless of their status, so they identified the nation's population and collected military service.

Taejong worked hard in national defense to defeat Yeojin, who was plundering, and after setting up a printing press to make type, he made Gyemija, the same type of type, to compile 《The History of Goryeo》. He abolished the Hopo system, which harvested every house from house to house, and set up a newspaper to relieve the people's unjust circumstances. Lee Bang-won, who became the third king of Joseon through two prince revolts, implemented various reform policies to stabilize his power.

During his reign as king, Taejong devoted all his energy to strengthening the monarchy. Because of this, his servants and outsiders who had helped him were in a position to be kicked out even after making great achievements. Taejong sent off the princes who had grown too powerful, and drove out not only his own wife, but also the wives of the princes from the vicinity of the royal family. He even executed his four younger brothers and sisters who had helped him seize power and rise to the throne.

Taejong passed the throne to his third son, Daegun (Sejong) of Chungnyeong, in 1418. Even after becoming King Sejong, he killed Sejong's father-in-law and took his mother-in-law as a slave.

<History Journal Day> Meeting of 'history' and 'story'. A decisive day that changed a large stream of our history unfolds into an exciting story. ‘Taejong Lee Bang-won’ Joo Sang-wook, how to overcome another crisis in the festive atmosphere

IXK6UZU5FBVWPEOPHNJ4CNWP3U.jpg

In the atmosphere of the festival where everyone is excited, Joo Sang-wook alone is full of tension and arouses curiosity.

In the KBS 1TV historical drama 'Taejong Lee Bang-won' (directed by Kim Hyeong-il, Shim Jae-hyun, scripted by Lee Jung-woo, produced by Monster Union), which was first broadcast last week, Lee Bang-won (Joo Sang-wook) and Lee Bang-won (Joo Sang-wook) in the wheel of history after Lee Seong-gye (Kim Young-cheol) decided to regroup in Wihwa. The story of those families was drawn.

Although Lee Seong-gye did not occupy the palace after the fall of Gaegyeong for a cause, King Woo (Lim Ji-gyu) was angry and repeatedly tried to eliminate Lee Seong-gye. At the end of the second episode, Wang Woo instructed Kim Jeo and Jeong Deuk-hoo to visit Kwak Chong-bo and plot the assassination of Lee Seong-gye, and Kwak Chong-bo informed Lee Bang-won of this fact, raising tension with another crisis situation.

As such, 'Taejong Lee Bang-won' captivated viewers with its fast-paced development and vividness as if you were in the field from the first week of the broadcast.

The still picture released by 'Taejong Lee Bang-won' on the 18th (today) shows Joo Sang-wook (played by Lee Bang-won) who appeared at the festival site while wearing a government uniform and driving a horse. A sense of urgency is felt in his expression, which exudes an atmosphere that is the opposite of the cheerful festive atmosphere.

In another photo, Joo Sang-wook is having a serious conversation with someone, making it impossible to let go of the tension. Lee Bang-won, who had previously blocked the assassination plot of King Woo once, raises questions about how to overcome this crisis. In addition, the fast-paced story development of 'Taejong Lee Bang-won' is holding the viewers' eyes firmly on how this event will affect him. The production team of 'Taejong Lee Bang-won' said, "In the third episode, a crisis will come to Lee Bang-won again. It will be interesting to see Lee Bang-won struggling for his family's common goal, so please watch and pay attention."

Joo Sang Wook Gets Nervous In The Middle Of A Joyous Festival In “The King Of Tears, Lee Bang Won”

Dec 18, 2021
by C. Hong

KBS’s “The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won” has released new stills of its star, Joo Sang Wook!

“The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won” is an traditional epic sageuk about King Taejong, born Lee Bang Won, who helped his father overthrow the Goryeo Dynasty and establish the Joseon Dynasty. A traditional epik sageuk is a historical drama that typically involves a large budget and cast, a long-running storyline, and depictions of real historical events and figures.

Spoilers

In the first two episodes last week, Lee Seong Gye (Kim Young Chul)’s momentous decision to retreat from Wihwa Island drew his son Lee Bang Won (Joo Sang Wook) and the rest of his family into the wheel of history. Because of his cause, Lee Seong Gye did not occupy the palace even after taking over Gaegyeong, the capital of Goryeo. Furious, Goryeo’s King U (Lim Ji Kyu) tried to get rid of Lee Seong Gye by ordering Kim Jeo, Jeong Deuk Hoo, and Kwak Choong Bo to assassinate him. However, after some thought, Kwak Choong Bo informs Lee Bang Won about the plot.

In the new stills, Lee Bang Won hurriedly rides his horse through the streets while in disguise in government official robes. The streets are alive with an exciting and joyous celebration, but he is physically and emotionally set apart from the festival, his face tense with nerves and fear.

The 4th episode shows how Bang Won is politically shrewd, sharp and astute, but also how he is unconscionable and merciless. As he is still young and just starting on his political path, he never considered the reaction of the people. He convinced his brother the General Bang Gwa to march his troops around the palace. Together, the sound of marching feet, horses' hooves striking the pavement as well as the rhythmic beating of war drums made an ominous sound striking fear on the hapless king who nervously ran out of the palace. Bang Won then appeared and told the king to stop going against his father and suggested the assassination of the exiled royal family. What he never anticipated was the reaction against his father and his family, of the people who protested in mass.

The eldest brother, Bang Woo, is a student of the renowned and respected Goryeo scholar Jeo Mong Ju who is against the dissolution of the Goryeo dynasty thus Bang Woo the eldest son of General and now Minister Yi Song Gye followed the political inclinations of his teacher and faithful to the Goryeo dynasty. The drama shows the political divide that can happen in families and the consequences. Bang Won also studied and admires Jeo Mong Ju but what happens when they realize that they are in opposition to each other in the political divide?

The king maybe a hapless puppet but by ordering the assassination of the exiled royal family, he made the people rebel against Lee Seong Gye. That is one expensive lesson for Lee Bang Won but will it drive him to become even more merciless? Shows how politics can destroy families.

Well done episode.

Taejong Lee Bang-won's conflict with Joo Sang-wook X Lee Kwang-ki and Jung Mong-joo Choi Jong-hwan

22VGF0743P_1.jpg

'Taejong Lee Bang-won' Joo Sang-wook, Choi Jong-hwan, and Lee Kwang-gi conflict reached a climax.

On this day's broadcast, Lee Bang-won (Joo Sang-wook) and Jeong Do-jeon (Lee Kwang-gi) were drawn to the defensive line due to the counterattack of Jung Mong-joo (Choi Jong-hwan).

Lee Seong-gye (Kim Young-cheol), who returned to Gaegyeong earlier, took a full-fledged step for a new country, and Lee Bang-won and Jeong Do-jeon actively participated and contributed their strength. However, because of a big stumbling block called Mong-Joo Chung, things kept going wrong. Nevertheless, Lee Seong-gye insisted not to inflict harm on Jeong Mong-joo. In this way, the tension between Lee Seong-gye and Jeong Mong-ju, who tried to establish a new country, and Jeong Mong-ju, who tried to protect Goryeo, reached a peak.

Jung Mong-ju continued to be at odds with Lee Bang-won and Jeong Do-jeon. After seeing Lee Bang-won and Jeong Do-jeon, who do not hesitate to take drastic actions to achieve their will, Mong-joo Jung decided that he could no longer tolerate the incident. Bang-won Lee, who heard this news, went to Mong-ju Jeong, but returned only the advice, "If it is not the right path, it should not be taken. Doing righteousness in front of the people is the duty of a scholar."

22VGF0743P_2.jpg

In the end, King Gongyang (Choi Hyeong-jun) decided to send Jeong Do-jeon into exile on the grounds that he had corrupted the state of the country by imprisoning his loyalists, imprisoning them, and applying pressure. Jeong Do-jeon rode in the sinner's cart, and Lee Seong-gye silently followed his cart. Seong-gye Lee said, "I'm sorry, Sambong. Trust me," to Jeong Do-jeon, who told him to "Stop going."

'Taejong Lee Bang-won' Joo Sang-wook and Lee Kwang-gi maximize conflict with Choi Jong-hwan

image_readtop_2021_1207073_1640507459489

Joo Sang-wook and Lee Kwang-gi of 'Taejong Lee Bang-won' provoke tension by maximizing the conflict with Choi Jong-hwan.

In the 6th episode of KBS 1TV's historical drama 'Taejong Lee Bang-won' (directed by Kim Hyeong-il, Shim Jae-hyeon, written by Lee Jung-woo), which was broadcast on the 26th, Lee Bang-won (Joo Sang-wook) and Jeong Do-jeon (Lee Kwang-ki) had an irreversible relationship with Jeong Mong-ju (Choi Jong-hwan).

Previously, Lee Bang-won and Lee Bang-woo (Um Hyo-seop), as well as Jeong Do-jeon, tried to dissuade Lee Seong-gye (Kim Young-cheol) from returning to Northeast, but in the end, they created a sad situation that could not be caught. However, Lee Seong-gye (Kim Young-cheol) returned to Gaegyeong again at the persuasion of Jo Young-moo (Kim Beop-rae), saying, “See the end because it has begun.”

The released stills show Lee Bang-won and Jeong Do-jeon while riding a horse with a firm expression. As if to indicate that they were facing a serious situation, their expressions were hardened. The two men had a conflict with Jeong Mong-joo by exiling a different person and Kwon Geun to the change of heart of King Gongyang (Park Hyung-joon), who did not acknowledge Lee Seong-gye (Kim Young-cheol) at the meeting.
