“Once Upon a Small Town” shared a glimpse of the friendship between Red Velvet’s Joy and Baek Sung Chul!

 

The upcoming Kakao TV drama is based on a web novel of the same name and is about a man from Seoul meeting a policewoman while living in the countryside. Along with the love story of the two characters against the backdrop of fresh nature, the drama will depict the joys and sorrows of the pure and humane people of Heedong Village.

 

Joy plays the bright and lovely policewoman Ahn Ja Young, a Heedong Village native and a people person who gets along with everyone in town. If anything happens in Heedong Village, Ahn Ja Young will always show up and help resolve matters.

 

Chu Young Woo takes on the role of Han Ji Yool, a veterinarian from Seoul who wishes to get out of Heedong Village as soon as possible. After working in the city, Han Ji Yool finds himself in charge of an animal hospital in the countryside and starts having to look after large animals like cows and goats.

 

Baek Sung Chul stars as the young and handsome farm successor Lee Sang Hyun who represents all the youth of Heedong Village. Lee Sang Hyun is friendly with everyone but is often bickering with Ahn Ja Young, his best friend since birth.

 

The production team hinted that the blossoming romance between Ahn Ja Young and Han Ji Yool won’t be smooth as there is another man who is interested in her, which happens to be none other than her best friend Lee Sang Hyun. One of the key points to look forward to in the drama is the changing dynamics between the two long-time friends as he attempts to get rid of the “friend zone” between them.

 

The newly released stills capture the strong bond between Ahn Ja Young and Lee Sang Hyun as they depict “bestie chemistry.” In one photo, she gives him an earful after he has fallen in mud. Her “police officer” mode turns off when she’s not wearing her school uniform, and she confides in him like a normal young woman. Ahn Ja Young, who always takes of other people’s problems, depends on Lee Sang Hyun when she comes across her own troubles.

 

 

The production team commented, “More excitement will explode as Lee Sang Hyun, an unrealistic male friend who has everything from good looks to a reliable personality, tries to get rid of the friendship mode with Ahn Ja Young. Joy shared the different charms of Chu Young Woo and Baek Sung Chul in their new drama!

Han Ji Yool and Lee Sang Hyun having a subtle war of nerves over Ahn Ja Young is a key point that doubles the excitement of the show. Joy, whose character captures the hearts of Han Ji Yool and Lee Sang Hyun in Heedong Village, explained each character’s charms.

 

Joy mentioned, “For Ahn Ja Young, Han Ji Yool is a veterinarian who makes her want to protect and help him.” Looking at Han Ji Yool, who involuntarily works in the countryside and feels overwhelmed by the interest and unasked-for generosity of the villagers, Heedong Village’s busybody Ahn Ja Yeong can’t help but be his problem-solver. However, as Han Ji Yool rejects her help over and over again, the two become unlikely enemies. Joy explained, “In the beginning, Ahn Ja Young and Han Ji Yool bicker with each other a lot to the extent that there is no room for romance. However, there is a variable [that changes their relationship]. It is a secret narrative that has not been revealed yet,” raising the curiosity of viewers. She added, “There are points that make me feel sentimental to just think about it. I think this kind of relationship may tickle the hearts of viewers.”

 

 

Joy also expressed Ahn Ja Young’s feelings toward her guy friend Lee Sang Hyun by saying, “He is a star of Heedong Village who is kind and pure. If the keyword for the chemistry between Ahn Ja Young and Han Ji Yool is ‘bickering,’ she can feel a sense of stability in her relationship with Lee Sang Hyun. They are comfortable around each other as much as the long time that they have spent together. I think Sang Hyun’s pure and devoted heart that will be on Ahn Ja Young’s side no matter what she does made such a relationship possible. However, there is a variable in their relationship as well. As the way Ahn Ja Young looks at Han Ji Yool changes, Lee Sang Hyun decides not to hide his true feelings anymore. They are clearly friends, but there are times when subtle emotions can be noticed between them. If you take a peek at the subtle relationship that goes beyond just friends, it will be more interesting to watch.”

The newly released stills from set show the main cast enjoying their small town living and showcasing their professionalism. While taking a break, Joy and Chu Young Woo adorably play around with a puppy and diligently monitor their scenes.

 

Chu Young Woo’s character Han Ji Yool is as a stubborn man from Seoul who has a hard time adjusting to his new surroundings and dealing with large animals like cows and goats. Unlike his character, Chu Young Woo looks comfortable in the barn and is incredibly friendly with everyone in the village, even busily cutting up and sharing fruit with everyone.

 

Lee Sang Hyun looks incredibly focused while he monitors his work, making sure he takes in every little detail. Before the drama even premieres, Lee Sang Hyun already has viewers suffering from second lead syndrome and it looks like he will continue to capture hearts with each episode!

“Once Upon A Small Town” Production Team Talks About Working With Animals And Filming In The Countryside

The production team of “Once Upon A Small Town” revealed behind-the-scenes stories!

 

Starring Red Velvet’s Joy, Chu Young Woo and Baek Sung Chul, the upcoming Kakao TV drama is based on a web novel of the same name and is about a man from Seoul meeting a policewoman while living in the countryside. Along with the love story of the two characters against the backdrop of fresh nature, the drama will depict the joys and sorrows of the pure and humane people of Heedong Village.

 

The production team shared that the reason they decided to dramatize the novel was the element of a comfortable romance between the charming characters within the setting of a peaceful rural life. They pointed out three distinguishing points of the drama: first, the refreshing country life will bring comfort to the viewers; second, the actors have perfect chemistry and synchronization with their charming characters; and third, the lovely animals create a cute and happy atmosphere.

 

 

As the drama is set in a rural area, there are many scenes where animals appear. The production team shared how they prepared for filming with animals by saying, “From the script writing process, we received advice from veterinarians and modified accordingly so that we could film safely. In the scenes where real animals appear, we first set up a safe environment with the help of veterinarians and then filmed under the supervision of veterinarians and professional trainers. All the props that came into contact with animals were specially made out of silicone to ensure safety, and anything that could be harmful was excluded as much as possible. Many veterinarians worked really hard with us to create the safest environment.”

 

 

When asked about the difficulties of filming in the sweltering heat, the production team remarked, “There were many places where there was no shade, so we had some difficulties. However, we really enjoyed the purifying feeling that comes from pollution-free and clean nature [in the countryside]. There were many moments when the staff and actors forgot about the heat and gazed in awe at the beautiful scenery. One day when we were on the way to dinner after filming, the sunset was so beautiful that everyone stopped and started taking pictures of each other. We are so proud that we could capture that beauty on screen.”
