MBC’s upcoming Friday-Saturday drama “Doctor Lawyer” has shared its first glimpse of Im Soo Hyang in character!

The heartwarming and cathartic drama is about a genius surgeon who becomes a medical malpractice lawyer after losing everything from a fabricated surgery and a prosecutor from the Medical Crimes Department who loses her only family and lover through that surgery. Together, they punish those who believe that the importance of a person’s life can be ranked based on their wealth and power and comfort the victims who have been wronged.

Im Soo Hyang will take on the role of prosecutor Geum Seok Young of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Medical Crimes Department. She holds the firm belief that criminals are rehabilitated not through forgiveness and leniency, but through punishment. As for defendants who are truly innocent, she is more eager to declare them innocent than even their own lawyers.

The newly released stills capture Geum Seok Young in the courtroom. She’s dressed in the robes of a prosecutor, and her eyes glisten sharply as if she’s trying to shed light on the criminal’s guilt. Her expression is unreadable, but she flares with firm charisma. Im Soo Hyang heightens the anticipation for the drama by showing a 180 degree transformation from her lovely image.

In what will mark his first drama role in four years, So Ji Sub will be starring as the titular medical malpractice lawyer Han Yi Han, who changed careers after a devastating incident in the operating room. Im Soo Hyang will star as Geum Seok Young, a passionate prosecutor who believes firmly in justice.

The newly released poster captures both Han Yi Han’s past and present, with the caption introducing him as a “genius double board-certified surgeon who has returned as a medical malpractice lawyer.”

In present day, Han Yi Han is a sharply dressed lawyer with a powerful aura, coolly staring down the camera in a suit and tie. However, the chillingly bloody operating room depicted in the bottom half of the poster—along with the glimpse of a patient’s feet on the operating table—suspensefully hints at the catastrophic surgery that ended his medical career.

Actor So Ji-sub returns as a lawyer. MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor Lawyer' (written by Jang Hong-cheol, directed by Lee Yong-seok) will be broadcasted for the first time at 9:50 pm on June 3. 'Dr. Lawyer' is a medical suspense legal drama about a genius surgeon who became a lawyer after losing everything through a rigged operation and a prosecutor in charge of medical crimes. The drama stars So Ji Sub as the titular medical malpractice lawyer Han Yi Han, who changed careers after a devastating incident in the operating room. Shin Sung Rok stars as the mysterious Jayden Lee, the head of the Asian branch of Honors Hand, and Im Soo Hyang plays prosecutor Geum Seok Young of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Medical Crimes Department.

Additional characters who represent different types of greed and ambition are played by Lee Joo Bin and Lee Dong Ha.

Lee Joo Bin plays the role of Im Yoo Na, the director of R&D at Ban Seok Hospital. As she is the daughter of an influential politician, Im Yoo Na has never once strayed from the “inner circle.” However, instead of depending on her father, she chooses to create her own, individual life through hard work. Im Yoo Na hides her sharp skills but can instantly pull them out when needed, and can be described as a leopard with seething blood awaiting its game.

Lee Dong Ha plays the role of Goo Hyun Sung, who is both the director and the deputy of minister for planning and coordination at Ban Seok Hospital. Goo Hyun Sung is the only son of Ban Seok Hospital’s chairman, which has allowed him to become the hospital’s youngest chief of thoracic surgery, as well as the youngest director and deputy minister.

Despite all this apparent success, Goo Hyun Sung has a weakness and insecurity that he cannot easily show others, nor easily accept himself. Additionally, the arrow of this insecurity is pointed directly at Han Yi Han.

 

Although both Im Yoo Na and Goo Hyun Sung try to hide their ambitions and true colors, both of them are eventually exposed. This greed of theirs will have a dominant influence on the intense plot of “Doctor Lawyer,” which is why their characters, as well as the actors, are incredibly important to the story.

The producers commented, “Lee Joo Bin and Lee Dong Ha are both doing their best to portray the greed of their characters. The two actors’ precise character analyses and powerful energy will make the story of ‘Doctor Lawyer’ that much more tense and mighty. Doctor Lawyer So Ji-sub returns in new promos with Shin Sung-rok and Im Soo-hyang

As we get closer to June, promos have been ramping up for MBC’s upcoming suspense drama Doctor Lawyer. Featuring the main cast, new character posters and a video teaser were put out this past week.

So Ji-sub (My Secret Terrius) stars as the eponymous doctor-turned-lawyer Han Yi-han. He was once well-regarded as a skilled physician in both general and cardiothoracic surgery. But when complications suddenly arise after a successful surgery, So is framed for malpractice and his license is taken away. Hell bent on getting revenge, So returns five years later as a lawyer who specializes in medical lawsuits.

 

Shin Sung-rok (Kairos) takes on the role of a Korean-American business man named Jaden Lee. How he becomes involved with So Ji-sub is not yet clear. But when So still worked at the hospital five years ago, Shin invested a large sum of money in the hospital’s foundation. Now he’s back to collect on his returns, but he’s got more up his sleeve than simply getting his money.

The third player in our story is prosecutor Im Soo-hyang (Woori the Virgin), who plays the character Geum Seok-young. She firmly believes that criminal rehabilitation comes from serving penalties and not from forgiveness or considerations. However, she is also passionate about protecting the wrongfully accused and will do her utmost best to prove their innocence.

 

The new video teaser begins with So Ji-sub in surgery as he brags, “You’ve seen it the most, me saving patients” and his colleague gives a thumbs up in return. However, the music remains ominous and So is shocked when he sees what hospital director Lee Kyung-young (Again My Life) is doing. Lee reassures So, “I promise, I will take responsibility for everything that happens in this surgery. Please perform the surgery.” While the others look worried, So replies, “I will trust you.”

We then cut to a drowsy So Ji-sub dropping his drink and passing out on his bed. Back at the hospital, a doctor calls So over for help and an alarmed So asks what’s happening. They try their best, but are unable to resuscitate the patient and So holds back tears as he solemnly pronounces the death. The teaser then jumps to So getting blamed for what happened. The judge sentences him with two years in prison, but with a two-year deferral.

 

An angry Im Soo-hyang confronts So Ji-sub afterwards, “I’m going to personally make sure that doctors who kill people but don’t pay for their crime are punished.” In the next sequence, we get a close-up of each of the main cast members, including Lee Dong-ha (Hospital Playlist 2) and Lee Joo-bin (Sunbae, Don’t Put on That Lipstick). The teaser comes to a close with everyone looking back to see So Ji-sub entering the court room. Shin Sung-rok gives a small smile as he drawls, “Han Yi-han, the medical malpractice lawyer,” to which So replies, “Why are you all so surprised? Did you think you would never see me again?”

Written by Jang Hong-chul (Class of Lies) and directed by PD Lee Yong-seok (Haechi, Village: Secret of Achiara), Doctor Lawyer premieres June 3 in the Friday-Saturday slot on MBC.

Im Soo Hyang’s character Geum Seok Young is a prosecutor who believes that criminals are rehabilitated not through leniency but through punishment, while she is more eager to declare truly innocent defendants as innocent than even their own lawyers.

Im Soo Hyang dished on the uniqueness of “Doctor Lawyer,” saying, “The drama isn’t just about a single genre, but it includes both medical and legal topics, so I thought I’d be able to show various kinds of entertainment. The professional career of a prosecutor from the Medical Crimes Department was new, and I was looking forward to meeting the viewers with a character that was 180 degrees different from my previous projects, so I decided to star in [‘Doctor Lawyer’].”

 

 

Concerning her character, the actress remarked, “Geum Seok Young is a character with a twist. She is a three-dimensional figure who seems cold-hearted in front of the law, but she has a warmer heart than anyone else.”

She explained, “As a self-proclaimed sister who is a ‘fool for her younger sibling,’ she has ambitions to raise them well on the behalf of their parents who died in an accident. However, the happiest moment will become her most unfortunate moment, and her life will change. I think it will be fun to watch Geum Seok Young darkening due to these incidents.”

Upcoming MBC drama “Doctor Lawyer” unveiled another teaser!

“Doctor Lawyer” is a new drama about a genius surgeon who becomes a medical malpractice lawyer after losing everything due to a rigged surgery and a prosecutor who loses her only family and lover through that same surgery. Together, they set out to punish those who believe that the importance of a person’s life can be ranked based on their wealth and power.

So Ji Sub will be starring as the titular medical malpractice lawyer Han Yi Han who changed careers after a devastating incident in the operating room. Im Soo Hyang will be portraying Geum Seok Young, a prosecutor who believes that criminals are rehabilitated not through leniency but through punishment. At the same time, she is more eager to declare truly innocent defendants as innocent than even their own lawyers. Shin Sung Rok will be taking on the role of the mysterious Jayden Lee, the head of the Asian branch of Honors Hand, a company specializing in lobby and investment.

In the new teaser, Han Yi Han looks both furious and desperate as he heads somewhere with a fire extinguisher. He goes against a group of men and even throws the object at a glass door. His angry voiceover demands, “Are you afraid that I’ll reveal everything?” Goo Jin Ki (Lee Kyung Young) threatens him, saying, “Go ahead. If you want to die without a trace.” Han Yi Han is spotted getting beaten up in prison by his fellow inmates, piquing curiosity about whether these are the consequences of trying to unveil the truth.

However, Han Yi Han is quick to retaliate as he transforms into a medical malpractice lawyer. His revenge plan isn’t all that smooth though as he comes face-to-face with Jayden Lee, a powerful and wealthy figure who doesn’t seem affected by most things. The video shares a glimpse of his fatal vibes, and his voiceover narrates, “Do you know what’s the best way to divide meat without arguing? It’s preparing enough meat to satisfy everyone.”

Geum Seok Young leaves a deep impression with her meaningful appearance. Her expression is cold and determined, and she vows, “I’ll make sure to properly punish those killers posing as doctors.”
