Upcoming drama “Grid” has shared a new trailer and its main poster!

“Grid” is a new mystery thriller about different individuals trying to track down a person known as “the Ghost,” each for their own reasons. 24 years before, the Ghost created a shield known as “the Grid” to protect humanity from life-threatening solar winds. After its creation, the Ghost disappeared and did not reappear again until 24 years later, but this time as an accomplice of a murderer.

The mysterious new poster features the main cast of Seo Kang Joon, Kim Ah Joong, Kim Moo Yeol, Kim Sung Kyun, and Lee Si Young all looking determined. The caption reads, “The ‘Ghost’ that disappeared into thin air 24 years ago. It has returned.”

Seo Kang Joon plays Kim Sae Ha, an employee of the Management Department. His expression appears complicated but his firm tenacity is clear. That’s because catching the Ghost was his only reason for joining this department and the Ghost has appeared in line with his employment.

Kim Ah Joong plays violent crimes detective Jung Sae Byuk, who witnesses the Ghost unexpectedly while chasing after a murderer. Witnessing the murderer’s accomplice vanish into thin air becomes Jung Sae Byuk’s driving force to track down both the Ghost and the murderer.

Kim Moo Yeol portrays Song Eo Jin, another employee of the Management Department who denies the existence of the Ghost. Although he gets caught up in a whirlwind of mysterious affairs, he is a cold character who does not lose composure.

Kim Sung Kyun plays Kim Ma Nok, an unidentifiable murderer who receives help and protection from the Ghost. Lastly, the Ghost is portrayed by Lee Si Young, who gives off an incredibly mysterious aura. Stay tuned to find out why the Ghost has returned after 24 years and how they end up helping this murderer.

Also released was a new main trailer for the drama. Along with intense scenes of a dedicated investigation, the screen reads, “A mysterious identity that saved mankind has returned as a murderer.”

Once the Ghost resurfaces, the hunt to track down their identity becomes more dire for Sae Ha. As the only person who witnessed the Ghost disappear, Sae Byuk plays an important role in the investigation. She asks herself, “They were meant to save humanity… so why did they attack me?”

Although he’s denied the existence of the Ghost before, Eo Jin finds himself in an uncomfortable position when he gets hold of a formal report about a woman who disappears right in front of your eyes, which Sae Ha tries to access. Sae Ha concludes, “They can teleport. Instead of looking for them, we must make them come find us.”

As the chase grows more tense, the Ghost comments, “Stay out of it.” When Kim Man Ok is found, he trembles in fear as he gets tied into the situation without even knowing why the Ghost is protecting him.

The production team commented, “‘Grid’ will unfold shocking events with refreshing material and a jam-packed script that have yet to be seen on TV. As was portrayed through the main poster and trailer, you will be able to experience the natural excitement that comes from a mystery chase thriller as well as the strong forces of Seo Kang Joon, Kim Ah Joong, Kim Moo Yeol, Kim Sung Kyun, and Lee Si Young.”

“Grid” is a new mystery thriller drama from Disney+ about different individuals trying to track down a person known as the “Ghost,” each for their own reasons. 24 years ago, the Ghost created a shield known as “the Grid” to protect humanity from life-threatening solar winds. 'Grid' ghost = Lee Si-young, savior or murderer?

image_readtop_2022_102632_16439590224937

Actor Lee Si-young's identity in 'Grid' is stimulating the curiosity of prospective viewers.

Disney+'s original series 'Grid' (directed by Regan, written by Park Cheol-hwan, written by Lee Su-yeon, produced by Arc Media, Ace Factory) is an unknown ghost that disappeared while creating a shield grid that saved mankind from the solar wind. After reappearing, it is a mystery chase thriller that tells the story of people who pursue him for their own purposes.

Ahead of the first release on the 16th, a reversal of still cuts of the unknown 'ghost' protecting an unidentified killer was released, drawing attention.

A ghost, the person most curious about by everyone waiting for the 'Grid'. In 1997, he created the global shield grid with a technology that did not exist then, preventing the end-of-the-world crisis caused by the solar wind. Grid's South Korean agency kept track of her, but she disappeared in 1997 and remained a mystery until 2021.

The reason why she was called a ghost is because even the officials of the bureau were not sure if she was a real person. However, she suddenly appears after 24 years and this time, she protects the killer Kim Manok (Kim Seong-gyun). This is why ghosts have two keywords: the savior of mankind and an accomplice to the killer. What the hell kind of character is she? The identity of the ghost, why it reappears, and the purpose of helping the killer, everything surrounding him is the core mystery of Grid.

Above all, the mysterious aura of Lee Si-young, who has completely transformed into the character of a ghost through the trailers and images that have been released so far, has attracted attention.

The production team said, "Even though it makes the atmosphere of the set pleasant anytime and anywhere, when filming starts, it is terrifyingly immersed in the character, and it surprises not only the on-site staff but also fellow actors." The mystery that penetrates the play has been raised to the maximum. He asked for a lot of support and anticipation until the first public release, which is not too long ago.”

Lee Si Young Casts Doubt Over Whether She’s A Savior Or A Killer In “Grid”

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

Feb 5, 2022
by C. Hong

The upcoming drama “Grid” shared teasers of Lee Si Young in her mysterious role as the Ghost.

“Grid” is an upcoming Disney+ original series about different individual trying to track down a person known as the “Ghost,” each for their own reasons. 24 years ago, the Ghost created a shield known as “the Grid” to protect humanity from life-threatening solar winds. After its creation, the Ghost disappeared until they suddenly reemerge as the accomplice of a murderer.

In the drama, the Ghost first emerged in 1997. Using technology that didn’t even exist at the time, the Ghost set up a worldwide “Grid” to prevent the annihilation of Earth by solar winds. The Management Department, the national agency in Korea in charge of the Grid, has been chasing the Ghost ever since, but she remained a mystery for over two decades. She is called the “Ghost” because the Management Department isn’t even sure she’s a real person. In 2021, she returns to protect a murderer named Kim Ma Nok (Kim Sung Kyun). The Ghost is now a savior—and a killer. What was her reason for showing up again, and why is she acting as accomplice to a murderer?

The new stills show two different sides of the Ghost. In one, Lee Si Young wears a hood over her head and stares out at the camera with a chilling and unreadable gaze. In another, she smiles fondly as she gazes excitedly at a sweet dessert.

The production staff stated, “Lee Si Young always brightens up the set, but when filming begins, she gets so immersed that it’s almost frightening. Not just the staff members, but also the cast on set were surprised. Even without knowing who her character really is, she elevates the drama’s sense of mystery with her presence alone.”

Seo Kang-joon hunts for the truth in new promos for Disney+’s Grid

by tccolb

There’s one more week until Disney+’s Grid premieres and we have another round of promos to ramp up more excitement.

In an alternate Earth where solar winds would have destroyed the planet 24 years ago, humankind now live under the protection of a grid barrier that scales across the upper atmosphere. The creator of the grid is known as “Ghost,” played by Lee Shi-young (Sweet Home).

She mysteriously disappeared after saving the Earth, but has now suddenly returned, and on her tail are government and police officials Seo Kang-joon (I’ll Find You on a Beautiful Day), Kim Ah-joong (Live Up to Your Name), and Kim Mu-yeol (Juvenile Justice). However, the only clue around her reappearance is that she’s teamed up with known murderer Kim Sung-kyun (D.P.).

The teaser begins with a chase sequence and Lee Shi-young fighting back. An unknown man scoffs at her, “This is probably nothing to you because you can just disappear… like you did last time.” The scene then cuts to Seo Kang-joon and Kim Ah-joong investigating Ghost, and Kim asks, “What about the people who saw her disappearing?” Seo responds that Kim is the only one and Kim wonders, “If she was trying to rescue humankind, why did she attack me?” We flashback to when Lee Shi-young hit Kim Ah-joong with some kind of disc and strange scarring appears on Kim’s arm afterwards. Next, Seo briefs Kim on his plan: “All the information we know about her is stored on the 13th floor of that building, so just help me get inside.”

As the hunt for Ghost continues, intermittent text screens read: “A mysterious being who saved humankind returns as a murder!” Cutting his own arm, Seo Kang-joon explains, “I saw a world without the grid.” Meanwhile Jang So-yeon (The Game: Towards Zero) determines, “We have to see this through the end. This is the first opportunity in decades.” With Kim Mu-yeol joining the chase, we learn that, “[Ghost] is a being who can teleport. Rather than us finding her, we need to make her come for us.” The troops close in on Lee Shi-young and Kim warns, “We cannot fail again. If we do…”

The teaser then cuts to a woman screaming and forensics analyze the dead body. Kim Ah-joong scarily observes, “It’s starting again… the murders.” Desperately, Seo Kang-joon asks, “What do I do to change what’s happened?” while Kim Sung-kyun defends himself, “You don’t know what I went through to get to this point.” In frustration, Kim Ah-joong screams, “What kind of RickRoll'D investigation is this?!” and the teaser jumps back to Seo Kang-joon as it comes to a close. Seo holds the strange disc in his hand and a man leers at him, “You think that you’ve become humankind’s savior? [You’re a] murderer.”

Written by Lee Soo-yeon (Forest of Secrets 1, 2) and directed collaboratively by Khan Lee (The Divine Move 2: The Wrathful) and Park Chul-hwan, Grid releases on February 16.

“Grid” Writer Explains How She Came Up With Sci-Fi Concept + Praises Casting Of Seo Kang Joon, Kim Ah Joong, Lee Si Young

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

Feb 13, 2022
by C. Hong

Lee Soo Yeon, the writer of the upcoming Disney+ original series “Grid,” has shared an interview about the new drama.

Lee Soo Yeon is best known as the writer behind the “Forest of Secrets” series (also known as “Stranger”). Her new series, “Grid,” is a mystery thriller about different individuals trying to track down a person known as the Ghost, each for their own reasons. 24 years ago, the Ghost created a shield called “the Grid” to protect humanity from life-threatening solar winds. After its creation, the Ghost disappeared until they suddenly re-emerged as the accomplice of a murderer.

Lee Soo Yeon said, “At first the title was just ‘O,’ or a circle. It was about how time doesn’t flow, how time is a concept made for the convenience of humans, and that time and space have no end or beginning. I liked that it was a circle and could be read as the letter ‘O,’ but I also wanted a title that everyone could pronounce the same. That’s why I naturally chose ‘Grid’ as the title, since the drama introduces the concept of ‘the Grid.'”

Asked how she’d come up with the idea, she said, “I was working on the last episode of ‘Forest of Secrets 2’ and there was a movie I really liked on TV. But I wondered, ‘What would happen if the opposite situation from this movie occurred?’ and it spun out from there. I wanted to do a drama that was different from what I’d done before. Before, I had tackled current and real social problems, and had to explain basic situations with a lot of lines. As I watched the filming process, I felt that that had been a burden to the actors. I decided to try a drama that had a lot less lines and a situation that had no prior information.”

She added, “I didn’t come up with the solar wind idea right away. The creator of the Grid, the Ghost, is someone who travels through space and time and appears after 24 years to protect a murderer. There are a lot of time-warp concepts, so I had to think about why someone would do something as difficult as moving through space and time to do something like that. I also felt like we could no longer ignore the problem of the environment. The drama tackles the problem of solar winds, but we’re also currently in danger from global warming and rising sea levels.”

The drama has an all-star cast that includes Seo Kang Joon, Kim Ah Joong, Kim Moo Yeol, Kim Sung Kyun, and Lee Si Young. Regarding the casting, the writer said, “For Seo Kang Joon, I had always felt that he was really good at acting while watching his previous projects, but I felt that anew this time. His character, Sae Ha, hides a pain in his heart, and instead of being resolved, it grows harder and more tangled as time goes by. If you have a bright and clear face, then you have to make up incidents, but Seo Kang Joon has the kind of face that doesn’t require that. When he becomes obsessed with the Ghost, you really feel that Sae Ha is absorbed in that one goal. He managed to express the heart and feelings of a very difficult character.”

She continued, “Kim Ah Joong is someone who combines both strength and fragility, just like her character Sae Byeok requires. She has a lot of inner conflict and is shaken, but she is so resolute and enduring on the outside that the people around her aren’t aware of it.” About Lee Si Young, she said, “I really wanted her to take on the role. She doesn’t have a lot of lines, so I wondered if she’d really want to do it, but when I heard she’d been confirmed, I applauded on the inside. She was so good that I never once even considered anybody else. If we have the chance to work together again, I want to create a lot of refreshing action scenes for her. I’ve felt her muscles in real life.”

Premiere Watch: Thirty-Nine, Grid, I Haven’t Done My Best Yet

https://www.dramabeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/PW-021522-2.jpg

by missvictrix

Our premieres last weekend were not enough to fill the drama void, and while we’re still awaiting new fare from the Big Three, this week we have new shows from JTBC and two streaming services. Between a kick@RickRoll'D Lee Shi-young and an always-wonderful Sohn Ye-jin, I don’t know what to watch first!

Grid

dummy.jpeg?s=900x600&e=t

Time slot: Wednesday
Broadcaster: Disney+
Genre: Sci-fi, action, mystery, thriller
Episode count: 10

Reasons to watch: As with Thirty-Nine mentioned above, I’m a bit torn on this drama. While it boasts a film director, the writer of Forest of Secrets, and a great cast, it is, after all, a sci-fi drama. I love sci-fi, but it’s rare that a K-drama can pull one off well, and Grid starts off with a dystopic setup that requires a lot of credible world-building to make it all work. Who is this mysterious “Ghost” that saved the world, and why should we care? Why the manhunt? And speaking of mysterious scenarios, how will Disney+ handle the release of their original K-content going forward, and how soon will we see their current strategy change?

Grid review: Seo Kang-joon makes comeback in sci-fi mystery series

After Snowdrop and Rookie Cops, Disney+ is rolling out yet another Korean drama: Grid. What’s even more attention-grabbing is that it's not a romance drama, but a sci-fi thriller!

The story takes place on an Earth that has survived catastrophic solar winds under the protection of the Grid, a planetary defence shield.

Years later, the founder of the Grid (Lee Si-young) reappears and helps a fugitive (Kim Sung-kyun) escape.

While in a face-off with detective Jung Sae-byeok (Kim A-joong), the founder fades into nothing like a ghost, leaving Jung bewildered at what she just witnessed.

Meanwhile, the secretive Kim Sae-ha (Seo Kang-joon) is digging for information on the "Ghost" and comes across Jung’s report of the incident.

With only one of 10 episodes now available on Disney+, the way things have unfolded so far makes it difficult to tell how the story will fare. Grid stays true to its mystery element, tempting you with only bits and pieces of information about the characters and their motives.

The drama opens with stunning computer graphics and visual effects that illustrate the unique premise that earth’s magnetic field is not enough to shelter us from the harsh solar winds.

With the visual effects setting a high standard for the rest of the series, it is unthinkable and will be awkward if the plot does not possess the same quality.

Perhaps because the producers are aware of how vague the first episode is, an unusual 40-second trailer has been inserted at the beginning to throw light on the upcoming events. Quite blatantly, it suggests that we can expect time travel — an ever so intriguing topic — to be a part of the series.

Similarly, due to the lack of content, it is still early to judge the acting. But the character Sae-ha stands out the most, with a seemingly complex background story to tell.

This character marks the comeback of Seo Kang-joon (Cheese In The Trap, When The Weather Is Fine) after completing his mandatory military service.

On one hand, he looks like the filial son taking care of his bedridden mother. On the other hand, he works at a highly secured building with artificial intelligence surveillance.

Sae-ha can even read lips and tries to “air assemble” (like air guitar) a pistol using his incredible imagination, while learning through a tutorial video.

Despite the unpredictability in Grid’s introduction, the quality graphics and interesting premise suggest that it might be worthwhile to catch the series, at least for the next few episodes.

New episodes of Grid are available on Disney+ every Wednesday.

Grid: Episode 1 (First impressions)

by solstices

grid1_13.jpg

Off to a suspenseful start, Grid introduces us to an alternate universe where solar winds pose a constant threat to Earth’s safety. A brutal murderer and an enigmatic phantom are also afoot, and they’re clearly only the first of many more mysteries to come.

Editor’s note: Coverage will continue with weecaps.

EPISODE 1 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Editor’s note: Coverage will continue with weecaps.

EPISODE 1 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Our tale starts in 2004, the year when a solar wind hit the Earth. We’re told that if it had come even one year earlier, two-thirds of mankind would have perished; thankfully, the world now has a system called the Grid that shields the planet.

Still, while the danger of the solar winds has been abated, it isn’t completely eliminated. In 2005, a factory worker takes a call from her son KIM SAE-HA, but the connection is interrupted by static. Shortly after, the lights go out — there’s been a power outage due to a solar wind.

At home, Sae-ha looks out the window to see a strange aurora begin to spread across the sky. Meanwhile, in a school field, students are hastily evacuated to the classroom. A news program explains that in the increasingly digital age, the ramifications of the solar flare are far more devastating. Power and internet outages would effectively halt trade routes, leading to famine.

In a control room, numerous employees type away at their computers, preparing for a shield transmission to reinforce the Grid. The operation is overseen by CHOI SUN-WOOL (Jang So-yeon), and across the world, political leaders of various countries keep a close watch too.

An alarm blares, indicating something wrong with the system update, but soon it’s resolved and the Grid is strengthened. Once Sun-wool’s alone, however, she sinks into a chair, looking shaken. Pensively, she muses, “that girl was right.”

We fast forward to 2021, where a grown-up Sae-ha (Seo Kang-joon) buys a pack of garbage bags at a convenience store. The convenience store worker seems shifty, and he won’t meet Sae-ha’s gaze. It’s only once Sae-ha gets back in his car that he realizes there’s blood on his finger, but it’s not his.

He’s about to drive off, but then thinks better of it and gets out of the car — looks like he can’t ignore his moral compass after all. It turns out Sae-ha’s hunch was right, and the shady man, KIM MA-NOK (Kim Sung-kyun) had murdered the actual convenience store worker, stabbing his neck with a pair of scissors.

JUNG SAE-BYUK (Kim Ah-joong) is one of the police officers that arrive at the scene to investigate, and when she tosses her ID lanyard over her shoulder to get it out of her way, Sae-ha takes note of her name.

Peering at the CCTV footage, the police can’t figure out what the victim said to the murderer, but Sae-ha takes one look and repeats it word for word. Sae-byuk realizes that he can read lips, and she gets him to read the words that riled the murderer up so much that he killed the victim: “What an ill-bred punk. Does he not have any parents?”

Of course, it’s practically a prerequisite that all tormented sci-fi heroes must have a tragic backstory, and Sae-ha is no exception. At home, his mother lies in bed hooked up to an IV drip and ECG monitor, and when he sees the news report on the murderer, there’s barely-concealed pain in his eyes. In a flashback, we see a young Sae-ha running down a hallway, holding his mother’s hand.

Sae-ha works at the administration bureau, along with coworker SONG EO-JIN (Kim Mu-yeol) and supervisor Sun-wool. It appears that their job is to surveil the country, and though it’s not clear what exactly they’re monitoring, their usual duties seem to be searching up three keywords each. Eo-jin searches up female, vanishing, and phenomenon; another employee searches up female, teleportation, and death; and Sae-ha searches up female, unidentified, and disappeared.
