39 is a drama about the romance and everyday lives of three friends who are on the verge of turning 40.

 

Notes

The drama will not air during its usual time slot on March 8—and on March 9, JTBC will air a special broadcast that sums up Episodes 1 through 6 instead of a new episode.

On April 15, JoyNews24 reported that the actress will be starring in the upcoming JTBC drama “39” (literal title).

In response to the report, her agency MSTeam Entertainment commented, “She received an offer to star in ’39’ and is positively considering [the offer].”

“39” is a 12-episode drama about the romance and everyday lives of three friends who are on the verge of turning 40. Son Ye Jin has been offered the role of Cha Mi Jo, who grew up in a wealthy environment and is now the head dermatologist of a clinic in Gangnam. As revealed last month, Jeon Mi Do is in talks to play acting teacher Jung Chan Young, who is also Cha Mi Jo’s friend.

The drama will be written by Yoo Young Ah, who previously wrote “Encounter,” “Entertainer,” and the film “My Annoying Brother,” and it will be directed by Kim Sang Ho, who recently worked on “Run On.”

“39” is scheduled to begin filming in the second half of the year.

Ye Jin, who found global acclaim after starring in Crash Landing on You, is reportedly in talks to top-bill JTBC’s slice-of-life drama titled Thirty-Nine. Her agency, MSTeam Entertainment, were quick to confirm the news stating that she’s, “positively considering the offer.”

 

The upcoming show will run for 12 episodes and is set to chronicle the lives of three women in their late 30s. If Ye Jin accepts the offer, the 39-year-old will play a woman her age named Cha Mi-jo, a successful and well-off dermatologist leading a clinic in Gangnam. Also in discussion to join the show is Hospital Playlist actress Jeon Mi Do who’s yet to disclose her decision after receiving the offer last March. For her part, JTBC hopes to cast Mi Do as Jung Chan-young, a 39-year-old acting teacher. 

 

Set to helm Thirty-Nine is Kim Sang Ho who recently co-directed the K-drama Run On. Meanwhile, penning the script is Yoo Young Ah, best known for her work on Encounter, and the multi-award winning film Kim Ji Young: Born 1982.

FYI, Ye Jin was slated to film her hollywood debut movie, Cross, last year, but production was delayed due to the pandemic. As she waits for the project to kick off again, Ye Jin has reportedly been looking back at past Korean TV show proposals offered to her. Before Thirty-Nine, she was last offered a TV role for the historical drama Cut by the Heart, which we now know as KBS2’s River Where the Moon Rises. While she obviously passed on that one, we’re hoping the actress takes a liking to Thirty-Nine so we can meet her again through our TV screens real soon.

Actor Son Ye-jin is to star in JTBC drama series, "Thirty, Nine," (translated) MSTeam Entertainment said Wednesday. Son's last drama was "Crash Landing on You" (2019-2020). 

"Thirty, Nine" is a "12-episode romance-human-drama miniseries," according to JTBC. It revolves around three women who are single and friends and on the verge of turning 40. The drama will be co-produced with Lotte Culture Works. 

  
Son will be playing the role of Cha Mi-jo, who has no tragic family background and no mystery childhood secrets. She has had everything she could ask for. But she still feels an emptiness, and the three friends talk about their lives and empathize with each other. 

Jeong Chan-young, one of the three friends, will be played by actor Jeon Mi-do, who is currently starring in the second season of tvN's "Hospital Playlist."

Actress Son Ye-jin is set to star in the new JTBC drama tentatively titled, "Thirty, Nine," according to her management company MS Team Entertainment Wednesday. 

"Thirty, Nine" is a 12-part TV series that revolves around three single women nearing 40. In the drama, Son will play the role of Cha Mi-jo, the chief dermatologist at a clinic in the posh Gangnam district of southern Seoul, who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. 

Actress Jeon Mi-do, best known for her performance in the popular tvN drama, "Hospital Playlist," will play Jeong Chan-young, one of the three protagonists. More cast members will be announced later. 

"Thirty, Nine" will be directed by Kim Sang-ho, who recently took the helm of the JTBC soap opera, "Run On," starring A-list actors Im Si-wan and Shin Se-kyung. The writer of this series is Yoo Young-ah, who was behind the success of the films, "Miracle in Cell No. 7" (2012) and "Kim Ji Young, Born in 1982" (2019).

The filming of "Thirty, Nine" is scheduled to begin in August. It is Son's first drama since her appearance on the smash-hit series, "Crash Landing on You," (2019-20) a romantic comedy following South Korean conglomerate heiress Yoon Se-ri (Son) and high-ranking North Korean officer Ri Jong-hyok (Hyun Bin). In the drama, the two meet by accident in the reclusive state after a paraglider carrying Yoon makes an emergency landing there. "Crash Landing on You" created a splash at home and beyond ― it scored high viewership ratings in Korea and took the No. 1 spot on Netflix Japan's top 10 list.

Son, whose real name is Son Eon-jin, made her showbiz debut via a TV commercial in 1999 and rose to fame after appearing in a range of movies and dramas, such as "The Classic" (2003), "Summer Scent" (2003), "Personal Taste" (2010) and "Something in the Rain" (2018). In January, the actress confirmed that she was dating fellow actor Hyun Bin.

Upcoming drama “39” (literal title) has confirmed its main cast!

Following Son Ye Jin being fixed for the cast in June, it has now been confirmed that Jeon Mi Do and Kim Ji Hyun will be joining her in the new JTBC drama.

“39” is about three friends who met in their second year of high school and are now on the verge of turning 40. The drama will tell the beautiful and emotional everyday stories of three 39-year-old woman who encounter unforeseen circumstances.

As announced previously, Son Ye Jin will play Cha Mi Jo, the head dermatologist of a clinic in Gangnam. She is a warm character who grew up in a wealthy environment with a caring family and everything she could wish for.

“39” will be written by Yoo Young Ah, who previously wrote “Encounter,” “Entertainer,” and the film “My Annoying Brother,” and it will be directed by Kim Sang Ho, who recently worked on “Run On.” The drama is scheduled to premiere in the first half of 2022 via JTBC.

It’s official: Yeon Woo Jin, Lee Moo Saeng, and Lee Tae Hwan have joined the cast of JTBC’s upcoming drama “39, 40” (literal title)!

“39, 40” is a realistic new drama about the friendship, romance, and everyday lives of three women on the verge of turning 40. Son Ye Jin, Jeon Mi Do, and Kim Ji Hyun were previously confirmed to be starring in the drama as its three female leads.

Yeon Woo Jin will be starring opposite Son Ye Jin as Kim Sun Woo, a 39-year-old dermatologist who returned to Korea after emigrating to the United States in high school. Warm-hearted but also surprisingly forward, the doctor finds himself increasingly drawn to fellow dermatologist Cha Mi Jo (played by Son Ye Jin).

Lee Moo Saeng will be starring in the drama as the calm and caring Camp Entertainment CEO Kim Ji Seok, who knows Cha Mi Jo from school. When he happens to meet her friend Jung Chan Young (played by Jeon Mi Do) through her, he falls in love with the acting teacher at first sight.

Finally, Lee Tae Hwan will be playing the role of 35-year-old chef Park Hyun Joon, who runs his own restaurant in Chinatown. Although he is talented enough to work at a top-tier hotel restaurant, he chooses to open his own restaurant so that he can make the food he wants to make. He eventually gets to know regular customer Jang Joo Hee (played by Kim Ji Hyun) and her friends, and he starts to find happiness in spending time together with them.

“39, 40” is currently slated to premiere in the first half of 2022.
