Plot

 

“Happiness” is an apocalyptic thriller that takes place in a time in which infectious diseases have become the new normal. In a newly constructed apartment in a large city where the higher floors are up for general sales and the lower floors are rented out, the drama depicts the subtle psychological battle and the class discrimination that occurs. The city hits rock bottom when an impending apocalypse hits in the form of a new type of infectious disease in which people suffer from unabated thirst.

Character descriptions

 

Sae Bom (Han Hyo Joo)  grew up in an unhappy household. Yoon Sae Bom is decisive and has fast judgement, and she’s the type to put things into action as soon as she puts her mind to it. Her motto is to live comfortably in the complicated world, but she’s actually a character who can hold a grudge. 

 

Jung Yi Hyun (Park Hyung Sik) is  a violent crimes detective. He used to be an up-and-coming baseball player in high school, but a knee injury forced him to quit the sport, and he decided to become a police officer instead. He is an intelligent character who works for the common good rather than personal greed.

 

Han Tae Suk (Jo Woo Jin) is a commander  of the Armed Forces Medical Command. Han Tae Suk was an information agent while serving in the military, and after being discharged, he worked as an executive at a pharmaceutical company. He is the perfect person for a position dealing with infectious diseases.

Han Hyo-Joo, Park Hyung-Sik, and Jo Woo-Jin are cast in tvN drama series “Happiness.” The drama series will be directed by Ahn Gil-Ho and scripted by Han Sang-Woon. Ahn Gil-Ho and Han Sang-Woon previously worked together on 2019 OCN drama series “Watcher.” For Park Hyung-Sik this will be his first acting role since he was discharged from the South Korean military on January 4, 2021. The drama series is set an apartment complex, when an infectious disease breaks out.

Filming for “Happiness” will begin May, 2021.

Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Set in the near future, a high-rise apartment building has been newly constructed in the big city. The apartment building has residents from diverse backgrounds, but a new infectious disease breaks out. Because of the outbreak, the high-rise apartment is sealed off. The residents struggle to survive, while stricken with fear and distrust of others.

Yoon Sae-Bom (Han Hyo-Joo) is a member of aspecial police squad. She is decisive, determined, and does not easily get rattled. She is excited to move into her new apartment, but, as soon as moves there, she faces a criss.

Jung Yi-Hyun (Park Hyung-Sik) is a detective. He is smart and honest. For a long time, he has held romantic feelings for Yoon Sae-Bom. They graduated from the same high school. Jung Yi-Hyun struggles to protect Yoon Sae-Bom and other people.

Han Tae-Seok (Jo Woo-Jin) is a lieutenant colonel and belongs to the health service command. He holds a key on the infectious disease outbreak.

Park Hyung Sik, Han Hyo Joo, and Jo Woo Jin are confirmed to star together in the new tvN drama “Happiness” (literal title)!

“Happiness” is an apocalyptic city thriller that takes place in the near future within an apartment that is stratified by social standing. The high-rise apartment housing diverse people becomes sealed off when a new infectious disease emerges, and the drama will depict the fear, fierce psychological battle, and desperate struggle for survival. “Happiness” will be a realistic horror drama in which the people become suspicious of each other in the enclosed space as their daily lives fall apart and their pre-existing values begin to waver.

 

The drama will be helmed by producing director (PD) Ahn Gil Ho and writer Han Sang Woon, who worked on “Watcher” together. PD Ahn Gil Ho has worked on numerous hits such as “Record of Youth,” “Memories of the Alhambra,” and “Forest of Secrets” (also known as “Stranger”), while writer Han Sang Woon has also penned “The Good Wife.”

Han Hyo Joo will be playing the female lead Yoon Sae Bom, a tactical agent in the Seoul Police Special Operations Unit who is decisive and has fast judgment. Yoon Sae Bom is the type to put things into action as soon as she puts her mind to it. After she moves into the newly constructed apartment of her dreams, she comes to face a crisis. Sports Chosun reported that Park Sung Hoon will be taking on the role of Jung Yi Hyun, who is a violent crimes detective and the female lead Yoon Sae Bom’s former high school classmate, friend, and fake husband. A new tvN thriller called Happiness is being planned and, if the stars align, this will be a big comeback drama for all three actors who are being courted: Park Hyung-shik (Suits), Han Hyo-joo (W-Two Worlds), and Jo Woo-jin (Seobok, Mr. Sunshine). Park recently completed his military service and is reviewing projects for his return to work, while both Han and Jo have been focusing on films for the last few years.

The story imagines a new normal, where infectious diseases have become part of daily life and handling processes have long been institutionalized.
