Sooyoung recently did an interview related to the drama. ^^ (I put the full interview under the spoiler tag since it's a bit long.)

[INTERVIEW] Choi Sooyoung Bares Thoughts About Missing Fans, Choi Tae Joon & Her Role In “So I Married The Anti-Fan”

In an exclusive interview with iQiyi, Sooyoung candidly and insightfully relayed thoughts about her latest drama, So I Married The Anti-Fan. Find out also who she wanted to spend 24 hours with and who she misses the most!

Spoiler

On Playing The Role of Geun-young

Describing Geun-young as the most ordinary character she has ever played, she detailed that she has an average appearance and doesn’t have much presence or any special talents. Her thoughtfulness hidden within her humor is what makes her shine.

“Because of this, I understand what her strengths are. Actually, I’m also used to using humor to defuse any discomfort and awkwardness that may arise when I show care or kindness to others,” she said.

In preparing for the role, Sooyoung confessed that she’s not familiar with the idol fans’ culture. She has never crazily fangirled over any celebrities, nor has she ever imagined that she would become an anti-fan.

Playing the role of Geun-young who was forced to make a choice to resolve her pressing concern, she explained how she cleared the misunderstanding and fell in love in the process.

“My focus was on a natural delivery of emotions, and I also put a lot of effort into considering how to carry out the comedic elements.”

Picking Her Favorite Scene in the Series

Revealing the scene that left a deep impression on her, Sooyoung shared it to be the “angry heel” scene in the first episode. Aside from taking two days to film the nightclub scene, it was also the drama moment that triggers the conflicts and misunderstandings between her and Hoo-joon.

“The scene was very challenging in various aspects, but come to think of it now, it was very fun.”

Featured as a reporter who became a top star anti-fan, Sooyoung honestly hoped there were more scenes of her working as a Wonder Woman magazine reporter.

She said, “I learned a lot from freelance reporters whom I have a good relationship with and from people I’m close to in our company. I’ve also heard of many stories of people just like Geun-young, who suffer miserably from trying to manage their relationships with their superiors at work.”

On Working On A Drama Set In The World, She Is Familiar With

Having K-Pop industry as the background of the series, Sooyoung responded how working with actors of the same age in a romantic comedy material is the reason why she ventured into the drama. She added, “Many people around the world love the original work of this drama. I also really like the director’s previous works, so I thought this was a very good opportunity.”

Relaying her happy and comfortable time while filming, she disclosed how a lot of her suggestions were considered during the filming process.

“Because this is a romantic comedy, the coordination of the actors’ lines and the delivery of emotions in our lines are very important. Many interesting things happened as we improved our chemistry. We had a lot of fun discussing and deciding on things together. Therefore, the atmosphere on set was very cheerful. I also really enjoyed myself.”

When asked if nostalgic moments of her youth days when she first debuted hit her while filming, she expressed resonating with Geun-young a lot. That is after she suffered from the manipulative editing, reaching a realization that her words and actions affect a lot of things after being broadcast on TV:

“This all reminded me of myself when I first debuted. At the beginning, I also didn’t understand much. Some of my words and actions led to misunderstandings, and I also felt hurt because of that. Not to mention that Geun-young is not even an artist, so I can absolutely imagine how scared and hurt she would be at that moment.”

On Missing Her Supporters + Her Thoughts About Anti-Fan

Genuinely missing her supporters, Sooyoung reckoned some of the best moments she shared with them. “The way our fans lit up the arenas with our light sticks during our tour concerts and the warm encouragement and looks my fans gave me at Beaming Effect’s charity bazaar left a deep impression on me. Lately, I really miss the opportunities of interacting with our fans, like during our stage performances.”

Shedding light to the disheartening side about words from anti-fans, the singer-actress asserts her stand on being responsible on the words we leave online.

“Recently, Korea has suspended the comment feature on web portals, so their influence may not be as obvious compared to before. However, you’re still able to see hateful comments on social media platforms. I think they also know that it’s wrong to hide behind the Internet and vent their anger at other people. I think everyone should stop making accusations that don’t aim to point out the actual problems.”

When asked to share her personal experience in dealing with anti-fans, she admits replying to a netizen’s comment on her social media account. Her goal was to clear a misunderstanding so she provided an explanation. Honestly confiding how she used to think that people are just attacking her for no reason and that her explanation won’t matter since anti-fans do not listen, she has since changed that outlook.

“Later on, I realized that misunderstandings should be cleared up. That’s why I decided to train myself to form a good habit of clarifying misunderstandings through communication.”

On Working With Choi Tae Joon

Choi Sooyoung is in the same college graduating class with her male lead Choi Tae Joon. Replying to her thoughts about their collaboration, she has only genuine answers.

“Before filming started, I was a bit worried whether Tae-joon and I would be able to film the romance scenes. He is like a little brother who is very close to me. We’ve been seeing each other often ever since college. He is a very funny person, so I can’t help but laugh every time I see his face. But he actually fits Hoo-joon’s character very well, so I was able to get into character very well.”

Expounding more on how they film the bickering scenes, Sooyoung mentioned how joking with each other is natural between them. Thus, shooting the quarreling scenes was very easy. She also thanks Tae-joon for being a jokester, so teasing is a piece of cake for them.

Going candid before the end of the interview, Sooyoung answered the question: If you had to spend 24 hours with one person, who would you pick?

"I would choose the members of Girls’ Generation. I would probably eat, chat, and play with them all day."

Lastly, she cites the reason why So I Married the Anti-Fan is not to be missed. “Both romance and K-pop elements are incorporated into this drama, so of course, you shouldn’t miss out on this show,” she concluded.

Can we please have more photos of our OTP?  To tide us over until the next episodes! So excited to watch ep 13-14 even though I'm guessing that our OTP's path will be an uphill battle from here on.  I hope we don't get to witness any more noble idiocy from either of our leads.  So far, they have been open and trusting to each other and I hope that they keep this up so that whatever obstacles come their way in the remaining episodes, they will resolve it together.  Fighting!!!:sweet:

Gosh next episode would be tearjerking since somebody leaked GY's file about Hoo Joon's duality.

Spoiler

Looks like they will follow the novel path since Joon attended con-press to explain about the rumour and expose everything while it's being said it will affect his career.

I have loved 12 episodes of this drama.  Ep 13 still cute but tainted with sadness.   First time I feel depressed watching a preview for this drama though :(  Hope we get over the inevitable "bump on the road" quickly and not too stupidly!

Annyeong, it's been a long time since the last time I come in Soompi that I have forgotten how to use the post. Ayame chingu, thanks for sharing the interview article. I'm so happy and touched to read that Sooyoung chose Girls' Generation. I love Girls' Generation and miss them so much.

Thanks for sharing @Ayame so Soo Young attended the same school as Tae Joon..? Interesting.

Ugh can JJ be kidnapped or somethin'!? He's SO annoying! Can he get a life!?

Proud of In Hyung, but I feel for her that the media keep pinning her to Hoo Joon aish.

I feel like somethin' terrible is happening ahead for our otp, no thanks to Hoo Joon's stupid boss, there's also his birth secret(?) He's gettin' real bold too showering Geun Young with affection whenever possible.

Couldn't recognize Tae Joon in that Instagram pic LoL. He looks good with longer hair.

Agree! I think this is the only preview which made me feel sad about. Doesn’t look too good :( it does have happy scenes though! Hopefully the sadness will be over soon.

ep13’s ending is  can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction.

The preview for tomorrow's episode :weary:

I think they bring in JJ's brother to make us feel bad for JJ...but I don't. I mean you have been wasting your family's money by running his agency poorly. It would be different if he was a jerk, but a good businessman. Instead it just feels like he doesn't actually care about the agency except to use it to bully IH and WJ.

IH should have just responded to the WJ questions saying that his schedule got busier and we lost touch. That way they won't ask for any favors to use her to get WJ on the show.

I wonder if WJ scandal next episode affects IH. It seems like her popularity is directly tied to her connection with him.

I hate the CEO of WJ's agency. Also, GY needs to talk to WJ instead of hiding what the CEO said to her. I think whatever loyalty WJ felt towards his CEO is about to go out the window.

I love the main couple and he really did kiss her in front of everyone. We just didn't see their reactions.

I'm trying to remember what is even written on the laptop and when was the last time we saw her type in it. I think it was why the crazy fan was staying at the hosue. I don't remember her making notes after that.

episode 14 was a tearjerker. JJ is the main villain along with the CEO.

Spoiler

saw on youtube episode 14 and watched it. Hoo Joon risks everything and told Media everything. He really risked it all to make things right.

Even In Hyung bawling and crying in front of JJ didn't make JJ becomes a better person. He just full in jealousy :(

This is only the third K-drama I have ever seen. Can anyone please help me understand

1. Why is it controversial that WJ and IH know each other and used to be with the same agency?

2. Is it shameful to be from Alaska? Why did the CEO feel he needed to lie about where WJ is from?

I'm so happy I found this forum as I don't know anyone else who watches K-dramas!

I'm so happy I found this forum as I don't know anyone else who watches K-dramas!

I will try and answer your questions, but these are my opinions from watching kdramas for the past years so please correct me if I'm wrong!

1) The controversy is that in Korea netizens and "fans" tend to have very unrealistic expectations about  idols and celebrities they like.  They are not allowed to date, they have to not have anything at all that might taint their image (ie/background education, family connections).  So to find out after all these years that WJ and IH were in the same agency and they probably dated, they draw the conclusion that 1) WJ left the agency and dumped his first love for another agency that made him famous and 2) IH is now using her connections with him to get famous

2) I  don't think it's shameful to be from Alaska, but the CEO painted a picture of WJ having had a good education, from a well do do family who donates, all positives in the netizens eyes, when in fact he doesn't know who his father is, his mum is missing or hiding, and like WJ says in an earlier episodes "he's just a country boy from Alaska".

I hope that helps

Oh my gosh the ending for episode 13!.

Yes, I loved it, too!   The whole episode (except when JJ is on the screen) is like marshmallows.  Sweet and fluffy.  Our OTP is so adorable.  Even their nightly phone calls are so cute it melts my heart.  :P I'm a bit sad though because next week will be the last week already.  I hope we get a really awesome and happy and satisfying ending for our OTP.  I do wonder though.  What's up with WJ's mom? Every single time, he calls she never picks up.  That must be very sad for him.  :tears:

I applaud WJ for doing the right thing, to come clear about who he is.

The usual crazy MIL, in this drama.. we have Mr Bae Yong Suk. He created a fake personality/ background for WJ, now WJ said full stop on this. I really hope the lawyer is really WJ's father no matter of what the back story on this.

For GY, we havent seen her respond to her employer. Usually for me, our ITD will remote the PC in front of us if any changes needed. Of course, there's a few sensitive documents stored in that PC. So, her employer employs her just for the bad reason. That's y u shouldnt use ur own laptop/PC for work. Use company's laptop please. Even for handphone. Separate, work and personal.

Last week, the 2nd episode of the week is very fast available online but today.. I've been abusing the refresh button.

Okay..  I'm anxiously waiting for next week episode. From the preview, we might be missing GY WJ scene together again.

P/s : Why nobody notice GY WJ kissing on the beach? No camera running? Wow...
