[Drama 2021] The Road: The Tragedy of One, 더 로드: 1의 비극

Somewhat depressing.  Poor Jun Young.  No one seemed to love him, no one seemed to mourn him.

Did I miss something?  Why was the railing unsecured?  I remembered noticing that in an earlier episode.  I didn't see a wheelchair lift (so the unsecured portion would act as a gate).  It almost looks as thought there was a latch, not a weak portion of the railing.

Oh Jang Ho's death was also sad.  He was helping Eun Soo and paid the price.  Eun Soo paid the price for feeling guilty.

Another thing I'm confused about.  Was Se-ra going to stand trial for fleeing the scene of the accident?

This was the tragedy of many.:(

I'm glad more people joined this thread and enjoyed the drama.  :kiss_wink:

I was wondering why soo hyun's father killed the school girl?? (

When Soo Hyun's father was beating him with the butt of his gun, he said that he hated people who tattled,"they don't deserve to live" and the girl may have witnessed the father committing an illegal act or the father might have assaulted the girl and she was going to report him and that was the reason he killed her. When Seo Ki Tae said that Soo Hyun's mom spent years and the rest of her life covering for him, just like Baek Kyung Sook who went to prison for her son JW, SH's mom may have pleaded guilty for the murder of her husband. It is not really too clear and I agree they could have ended up the drama better.

Baek Soo Hyung took the rap for the accident and death of Dong Pil. Sera went to Seo Ki Tae and asked that he use his influence to help her. Sera also made a deal with Soo Hyung that she will not tell the police about what really happened that night that her son JW was the one hit DP if Soo Hyung will not involve her. Sera kept her mouth shot and Soo Hyung did the same.

Started watching this Series when it debut. However stop watching after Ep 1 as wanting to wait till entire series ends then watch stretch without needing to wait week after week
Now finishing Ep 3 and I really wondered what is wrong with this two person
Seo Eun-Soo who's facial expression is like she is having a ball of sour gum in her mouth all the time...and happily go sleeps with Oh Jang-ho.
Cha Seo-Young the crazy woman who threatens to get what she wants. Cannot imagine she want Baek Soo-hyun to sleep with her Ouch She is setting traps with hidden camera for another person just to climb higher and higher...She is one scary person just the kind who blames the whole world for anything that goes wrong then turn the table around and threaten to get what she wants.
I watch this series cause the actor Ji Jin-hee acting in it. But was kind off switch off totally with SES, CSY, BKS...seems this 3 are married but happily sleeping around. Ouch...
This series is my Road of Struggle...as in struggle to complete watching and holding my breath each time SES, CSY, BKS appears
Thanks chingu for reading

Disappointing ending. I did not even understand BSH's guilt over the death of girl in the past until the last 2 to 3 episodes. Execution could have been better. This drama was cut down to 12 episodes so that could have affected the story telling.

I agree, the ending was a bit rushed. I remember in your first posts that you said you read the original novel? How did the novel end and was the background story of BSH explained better in the novel? Thank you.

I really did not like at the end that they showed SH had custody of his son. He was a lousy father and husband. He had an affair when his wife needed him most because she was grieving the death of their child and he never went even once to his adopted son's baseball game. SKT, the grandfather is an influential powerful man but he would do anything to protect his family. SH lost his wife and his family long ago without realizing it. YW is suffering psychological trauma and lost his mother. Maybe SH thinks that YW is the way for his redemption but what about YW's feelings? I think that being with his grandfather is both therapy for YW and SKT. At least YW is in a safer environment while in therapy because the object of his resentment is not living with him. When YW's therapy will lead him to face the truth of what happened that night, how much would he resent his father? He already suffered from prolonged self inflicted blindness and guilt for resenting JY who told the truth that he was SH real son and not YW. He witnessed the death of JY. SH is a broken man who needs therapy himself.  I agree that the ending should have given some leeway for ES to recover from a coma and not brain dead for the sake of YW.

but the ending of the story could have wrapped out in better manner, i could feel a bit rush...

Yes, I agree with this. Finale episode seems bit a rush with many unanswered question. What a tragic story for the male lead. His life is full of sins, guilt, and tragedy. Is the drama plot stayed with the original story??

Still.. so many facts unreavealed, for me, this is bit confusing. Like what is connection between chairman Seo and young Baek Soo hyun, what's real happened between them. They only gave flashback scene of Seo Kitae and Shim Seok hoon without clear explanation. Or something I have missed in this part.

Who was sent DNA report to BSH about Choi junyeong is his son? Oh Jangho?

Reporter Park's murderer is one of confusing part and unsolving case for me as a viewer.

Everyone's are involved in those crime. Like how could? Actually Chairman Seo is not the mastermind but he's clean up all mess that everyone done. Seo Eunsoo is the mastermind. Why she and Oh Jangho tried to fake Yeonwoo's kidnapping? Is it any corelation with the original evidence? and Yoon dongpil car accident with Jongwook and Sera is another mess.

Above all, so tragic that Choi Jun Young's finally dead in accident like that. How come he knows that his real father is Baek Soo Hyun, if it's not from his lunatic mother?

Still don't know who was the person Detective Shim met in secret? And who's got the happy ending?? Assemblyman Hwang and his wife. Wooah this is craaazzyy.. :dissapointed_relieved:

Final thought, this drama is underrated, i think the thriller and crime puzzle is intense and happy that my forever Korean crush Ji Jinhee take an antihero character, not his usual lovely-father-husband role. I enjoy it. Thank you chingu!! really really enjoyed this thread with all those reviews and theories! :crazily::heart:

For me there was no mastermind. Both deaths that night were caused by accident however, Dongpil was still alive but  Bae Kyung-Sook put him in a freezer bleeding and therefore eventually caused his death. Dong Pil was murdered by BKS. She could have called an ambulance but she did not because she wanted to protect her son. She went to prison for it. Dong Pil's life is tragic in that he was innocent but was imprisoned when it was Seo Hyung's father who was guilty then killed when he could have been saved.

The young high schooler Sim went to Seo Ki Tae to ask for help for his friends and SKT said that nothing will happen to Sim and his friends Dongpil and Seo Hyun. Dong Pil was freed from prison soon after for lack of evidence and SKT said for Sim to remember that favor was not for free but that it was a debt to be paid.

As for JY, his death was an accident. With the height he fell from, his tiny body, the drugs plus the car accident he just went through, he would have died from that fall instantly. The coroner said he had severe breaks, he could not have survived plus he showed large doses of drugs that he was already a time bomb waiting to explode, even without the accident and fall, he would have died in a short time, but ES and JH still could have called an ambulance. ES however, was not thinking clearly, was emotionally distraught and there was YW who was having an emotional breakdown to protect. Her first instinct was to go to her father. Her father was the one who devised the plan to protect his family. Seo Ki Tae did not get to where he was by being slow, he is creative and got his people mobilized including instructions for ES. Her part in calling SH and telling him of YW's kidnapping was a part of SKT's plan. That is also the reason why ES suggested that YW be cared for in SKT's house instead of YW staying at home. I don't think ES was capable of "masterminding" anything at that time, when she was in a state of panic. SKT was the one who planned the fake kidnapping.  Remember when he said that he will give the "ransom" money to BSH and asked that in return BSH enter politics, SKT already knew that his grandson was safe. ES guilt was not calling EMS and then following her father's plan. She already judged herself guilty because she could not accept the truth of her husband's affair and having a child with another woman. She might have thought that if she judged herself guilty, that others also will. So, in a panic she ran to her father. The time when she could not get in touch with Soo Hyun because he was busy running around trying to find the truth about Jang Ho, ES ran to her father again and begged him to help her one more time and SKT promised to find SH. SKT acted for his family especially his daughter and grandson and heir, YW.

JY's life was a tragic one that he was born from a mother who never cared about him but used him to try and get BSH back to her life. CSY accused her husband of having a dalliance with a young woman at a hotel the night JY died but in fact she was the one who was with BSN director Kwon at a hotel. Choi followed her and wanted to confront her but he was busy transferring the ransom money which was deposited to his investment firm to a foreign bank. He already knew that JY was dead. Instead of calling the authorities for an investigation, he followed SKT's direction. He also knew that JY was being drugged but he did nothing about it. The day of the Foundation Event, CSY asked to be interviewed and featured by a social magazine's editor who told her that another announcer was already being featured in her place. She called Chief Kwon who told her she was doing her best to help her and the next thing she was in her car to meet Kwon at a hotel, forgetting about her son. Sera, the sister could care less about JY.

Baek Soo Hyun's lies and guilt from the past and inability to face it, deal with it so he can let it pass, had effected his present life and the people around him and in the worst of ways for the innocent young JY and YW. He had to take drugs to function and soothe his conscience temporarily. I still think that in the ending the custody of YW should have gone to SKT and ES given the chance for recovery for YW's sake.

As for the man who was meeting with Detective Sim, he was called Center Director by Sim. He told Sim to stop drinking and he said I know you can't control yourself. This was not the first time, Sim was shown to drink. My guess is that he is a Director of a Center for addicts like AAA and I am conjecturing just from their conversation. That man was also probably working for SKT who seems to have kept tabs on the three since Sim went to him for help. SKT knew all about them. When DP was freed from prison he became successful running casinos or gambling dens connected to SKT who also kept tabs on Jang Ho. His right man, Moon Do knew all about them.

Very well organised review for this drama, awesome...but there is a minor typo here. The spelling name should be Bae Kyung-Sook, Seo KT's 2nd wife. (not Baek Soo Hyung you mentioned above)...i was confused at first when you typed this name....:D their names was so closed....

1. So who killed Jung Ho in the house? Was it the main male lead who had lost his memory on that night?

2. Who is the lady who mentioned in the insurance policy when the reporter Park died in the accident? Was the lady related to the accident? Any link to the story?

I still think there are few holes in this puzzle that need to be filled.

@Nanana85 actually the one who got a happy ending is Chief Kwon who left broadcasting and became the President's Press Secretary working at the Blue House. Choi asked her to be a character witness for his wife but Kwon refused because she said that she has brighter future ahead of her and did not want to destroy her chances. All Seo Young's efforts of sleeping with her wasted in vain. In the end it is all about saving their own skin. She did not want to destroy her happy ending but she like all the others is now beholden to SKT. She owes him.

I’ve been so busy that I completely forgot about this forum… but I do have the urgency to write a closing for this drama.

Though I still have quite a few unanswered questions, and though it seems like the ending is like huh????…. still, I want to thank the production team for giving us an epic drama. I must say, the title of this drama is perfect. Such a tragedy when the father drives his own son’s corpse to the crime scene.

There are lessons that we can learn from this drama. I personally learned the importance of transparency and honesty. If only everything begins with those two, the tragedy won’t even happen. But again, there won’t be this drama lol.

Also, I want to thank every single one of you who post in this forum! I had fun reading your opinions and questions.

So long everyone!
