This is my favorite show right now. It's dark and sad, but absolutely mesmerizing.

 

I recommending watching this and "Hometown Cha-cha-cha" (also good) right after and have yourselves a darkness to light weekend!

I'll have to rewatch those scenes. My memory is crap, all I remember is thinking about how they shot that suicide scene in a pool. However, I don't think they said the name of the reservoir where the two died...

JTBC’s “Lost” has revealed new stills ahead of the next episode!

 

The drama is about the stories of average people who realize they haven’t become anything throughout their lives and try their best to see the spotlight. Jeon Do Yeon stars as Boo Jung, a ghostwriter in her 40s who feels lost and as if she hasn’t been able to amount to anything. Ryu Jun Yeol stars as Kang Jae, a man who runs a service where employees act out whatever roles clients request.

Previously, Kang Jae became aware of an unusual connection between Boo Jung and the deceased Jung Woo (Na Hyun Woo). He belatedly sent her a message as well as his business card. The episode ended with Kang Jae entering the room where Boo Jung was waiting for him.

 

The newly released stills feature Boo Jung, Kang Jae, and Jung Soo (Park Byung Eun). First, Boo Jung and Jung Soo make silent eye contact. They’re both coming home late, and there’s a strange layer of uncomfortableness between them. Boo Jung avoids eye contact with her husband and hurries ahead of him, and Jung Soo warily walks behind her.

More stills reveal Jung Soo and Kang Jae coincidentally crossing paths. As Kang Jae gets off the elevator, Jung Soo enters it, and Jung Soo looks up when he recognizes Kang Jae. What kind of changes are in store for these three characters?

Our escort faces a moral dilemma and struggles to decide where his priorities lie. After discovering the surprising connection between his old friend and his new one, he continues his search for answers and makes a questionable move. Meanwhile, our ex-writer contemplates a proposition that might be riskier than she anticipates.

 

EPISODE 6: “A woman I know”

 

Bu-jung anxiously fiddles with her hands and stares the text from café hallelujah. While he waits for her response, Kang-jae looks through the many photos of Min-soo on Jung-woo’s phone. He gets a call from Ddak-yi and lies that he’s at home.

Ddak-yi has figured out why the name Lee Bu-jung sounded familiar. He saw her as a contact in Jung-woo’s old phone from before he switched numbers. One day when Jung-woo was at the internet café, he’d left his phone lying on the desk. Ddak-yi saw a call and then a text pop up from Bu-jung.

 

Jung-woo read Bu-jung’s text saying she couldn’t meet and immediately looked up a counseling center called “Café Hallelujah.” Ddak-yi assumed Bu-jung was the mother Jung-woo was seeing, but Jung-woo corrected, “She’s a woman I know. We might die together.” Whoa. He then smiled and said he was kidding. Uh-huh.

Jung-soo notices Bu-jung sitting by her phone and asks if she’s waiting for a call. She denies it and quickly flips her phone over.

He changes the topic and suggests they buy a dryer so they don’t have to hang the clothes all over the house. In fact, they should get all new appliances with his employee discount while they’re at it.

 

Bu-jung assumes his mom asked for the stuff back since they took it when they moved. Why should they replace appliances that have been working better than them? Ouch.

 

Jung-soo sighs and wonders why she’s being so sensitive. Bu-jung reminds him they just finished paying the items off after five years on the newlywed installment plan.

 

 

At the internet café, Ddak-yi looks up café hallelujah, but the page has been taken down. Meanwhile, Kang-jae finds a manila envelope with “LBJ – suicide note” written on it. Inside is Ah-ran’s book with a personalized note thanking Bu-jung for her “beautiful and flawless writing.”

Tucked inside the pages of Bu-jung’s original manuscript is a photo of Bu-jung with a woman and child at the hospital. It might be Hee-sun and Min-soo, but the phot is dark, so it’s hard to tell. The third item in the envelope is a suicide note addressed to Chang-sook. As he reads, Kang-jae thinks back to hearing Bu-jung say she wanted to die that day in the stairwell.

 

Kang-jae takes the envelope and goes to see Jong-hoon at Akira. Jong-hoon is impressed that Kang-jae already figured out the job is for Ah-ran. Kang-jae pulls out Ah-ran’s book and says he should read up on the VIP if he’s going to do the job right.

 

When Jong-hoon asks where he got the book – it’s marked not for sale – Kang-jae vaguely says he got it from a woman he knows. Jong-hoon assures Kang-jae he didn’t hide info from him because he doesn’t trust him.

All it takes is a single scandal to bring a celebrity down. Ah-ran was always the supporting role until her book propelled her to stardom. Jong-hoon feels for how she’s struggled.

The drama is about the stories of average people who realize they haven’t become anything throughout their lives and try their best to see the spotlight. Jeon Do Yeon stars as Boo Jung, a ghostwriter in her 40s who feels lost and as if she hasn’t been able to amount to anything. Ryu Jun Yeol stars as Kang Jae, a man who runs a service where employees act out whatever roles clients request.

Previously, Kang Jae became aware of an unusual connection between Boo Jung and the deceased Jung Woo (Na Hyun Woo). He belatedly sent her a message saying that she should contact him if she needs someone. Without hesitation, she booked a slot with him, and the episode ended with Kang Jae entering a room where Boo Jung was waiting for him.

In the newly released stills, Boo Jung and Kang Jae are sitting next to each other on a single bed. They’re neither close nor far, and the respectful distance between them sparks interest about what will happen next. In particular, Boo Jung wordlessly hands Kang Jae a tangerine, and he stares at her without response. In one photo, Boo Jung watches Kang Jae sleeping on the bed, and another photo shows her carefully lying down next to him. Her complex expression hints that she’s about to experience some changes in her life.

The next episode will show Boo Jung and Kang Jae’s relationship approaching a turning point. Viewers are keen to find out why she asked to see him and how he feels about her.

The production team shared, “Boo Jung and Kang Jae are getting to know each other more and becoming more deeply involved with each other. Please keep an eye on how they’ll get closer as ‘friends’ and not ‘invisible people.'” They also added viewers should keep an eye on what choice Kang Jae will make when he realizes Boo Jung may be in a stick situation after Jong Hoon (Ryu Ji Hoon) requested he do a background check on her.

Also the woman in the car with him was his girlfriend, Hee Sun. They also had a son, Min Su.

@africandramalover @the_sweetroad They didn't directly mention the name of the place where JW and his girlfriend drowned, but in Episode 1 it's described as "a reservoir in Gyeonggi-do". But the Yuwon fishing spot is located in Gyeonggi-do, so I think it may be the same place. Also when Just (Ddak Yi) was looking up 'cafe hallelujah' in Episode 6, the picture of the Yuwon fishing spot came up, so it must be the same place then.

At last. "Just" has an ACTUAL NAME. I thought "Just" for a name to be too weird eheh. Still he's so.. untainted? Like why waste your tears on Min Jung who only has eyes for Gang Jae!?

    Didn't think that part of Gang Jae, Min Jung's "services" includes drawing more people to join the gym ha-ha. But if people can be hired at funerals and even be pretend boyfriends/girlfriends, nothing is impossible.

    I actually wouldn't mind if there's a job where one can be hired to just be a companion. No physical contact or intimacy. Although it's hard to do in this pandemic.

@Latte_Anyday Yes, even in Western countries, people hire attractive people to show up to places and be there so others will show up too. That’s just for gyms and things which is no big deal. What’s worse is for dating. If you’ve ever done online dating or speed dating or known someone who has, there’s nearly always the same couple of people at these things and they are the plants. Plus, on the bigger sites, they get fakes to pose and answer profiles and then ghost when the other person has bought a membership. I know because my friend actually met a guy who worked as one, and we both used to wonder at some of the suspiciously phony people we met at singles’ events.

    They (mostly very young women) claim there's no sex involved which is a bunch of bs; just my opinion.

    I was given the suggestion of going for online dating ha-ha but I'm an introvert and again I've heard of a lot of dating horror stories too.

    Guess being hot has its perks eh. Though I imagine it can be stressful. Like I said I don't mind if I'm hired as a "friend" like just to be a listening ear or offer words of support that kind of thing or hang out at movies etc.

Just finished watchin' ep.08.

    I am disliking Min Jung more and more. Soon Joo is way too gullible. Someone please get him away from her!

    Ah Ran get a taste of her own medicine. I think that Gang Jae's friend is a rat. The actress who plays Ah Ran is attractive for her age, she's also elegant.

    Jung Soo's mom is lonely then why don't she get remarried? Unlike Bu Jeong's dad who keep himself busy (and yet he has Alzheimer's?). Jung Soo's mom has way too much time on her hands. She is way too clingy on her son. I wonder if all asian moms are like her though..

    Do they expect their child to keep them company well until their golden years and abandon all their other family responsibilities? Idk.

It wasn’t young women, it was young men we came across, but I’m sure young women played the same role.

Also my question! You'd think it would be clearer after 8 episodes, but it's not .

 

It's hard to believe we're already at the halfway point. I'm still getting used to the slow pacing and the feeling that not very much happens in each episode, unlike other dramas where they pack in a lot of movement and story points.

 

It strikes me that almost everyone in this story is lost - not just BJ and GJ, but also the MIL (getting drunk alone), A Ran (she has a pretty depressing story under all that glitter), and Jung Woo, among others.

 

The funeral scene was funny - at first you're like What?! and then you realize they were just hired for the day. Funny that that girl would go to such great lengths to pretend like she had a fiance in front of her extended family. You'd think you wouldn't want to be deceptive at your father's funeral, of all places.

 

The David and Bathsheba reference was a bit puzzling. GJ did see BJ on a rooftop...but does that mean he's going to send Jung Soo to his death?

The other title is human disqualification, kdrama titles often leave me bamboozled and this one is iffy. The ML is neither a professional nor a labourer but earning money as an 'escort' which was often a euphemism in Hollywood movies. She is talented but ghostwriting for someone which is easier than to make a name as a writer. I wouldn't disqualify them as human. They are in the grey area.

Okay, so am in the middle of episode 8, and I am wondering if the club manager is actually the missing son for Jung Ae Ran?

 

As for the David and Bathsheba love triangle story, that's a foreworening for the love triangle between Minjung, Gangjae and Just.  But who is Bathsheba?

Human Disqualification: Episode 7

Everyone is lonely in their own way, and all our characters strive to make meaningful connections while struggling through life. Our leads open up to each other, growing closer as they realize they have more in common than they thought. Meanwhile, our ex-writer’s husband notices a few oddities and begins to suspect that his wife isn’t telling him something.

 

EPISODE 7: “Broken hallelujah”

 

At work, Jung-soo gets a call from the ever-persistent Kyung-eun who’s having trouble finding a cake for her mom and wants his help. Jung-soo acts dodgy when Joon-hyuk conversationally asks where he’s going as they get off work. When Joon-hyuk sees Kyung-eun waiting for Jung-soo with a smile, he grins and gives Jung-soo the guy shoulder bump.

Jung-soo is as reserved as usual with Kyung-eun but walks out with her nonetheless. She’s disappointed when he can’t tell that she got work done to zap the wrinkles around her eyes.

 

Meanwhile, Ddak-yi isn’t feeling great after his drinking binge and lies in bed, still sad about Min-jung. He pretends to be asleep when Soon-kyu walks in, but she knows he’s faking. She chides him for getting so drunk and making a mess.

Soon-kyu asks Ddak-yi to pick her up from work that night – she’s not sure when Woo-nam will be home. Before she leaves, she checks to make sure Ddak-yi isn’t involved in Kang-jae’s work. She’s relieved to hear he isn’t but gets mad when Ddak-yi says he’s not qualified. He rolls his eyes at her you’re-just-too-special-for-them pep talk.

 

We flash back to Ddak-yi’s drunken night. After he’d shown up at Kang-jae’s, he’d been worried sick about Min-jung. They couldn’t get ahold of her, so he dragged Kang-jae along to help look for her. In the taxi, Ddak-yi abruptly become melancholy and supposed that Min-jung was just having fun with those guys.

Kang-jae snapped at Ddak-yi for again playing “Hallelujah” on his phone. Ddak-yi got contemplative and wondered what the lyrics mean. He then started crying. Startled, Kang-jae asked if something happened. “Nothing … nothing ever happens,” Ddak-yi choked out between sobs.

 

When Kang-jae finally located Min-jung, Ddak-yi sobbed harder in relief. They took a group photo after they met up, Ddak-yi smiling widely.

 

 

While Ddak-yi stares at the photo the three of them took together, Kang-jae sits alone on the motel bed. Bu-jung hides out in the bathroom with the water running. Once she calms her nerves enough, she takes off her jacket and exits the bathroom.

Bu-jung stands there awkwardly until Kang-jae suggests she sit. He finds an expired tomato juice in the fridge, but Bu-jung encourages him not to drink it. Since tomato juice is naturally sour, it’s hard to tell if it’s gone bad.
